Don't trust ADT! They have awful customer service! After a decade of service, I canceled my service on December 1, 2023. I was told by the customer service representative our last payment would be on December 5. ADT deactivated my service on December 31, but then charged me for a full month of service on January 4. I called customer service and both representatives said that I had to call 35 days ahead of canceling my service to stop my account from being charged! Why is that? How is it that ADT can deactivate my service without any problems, but they can't stop charging my account unless I call 35 days in advance??? Their answer is that it takes them up to five days to process the cancellation. Then they tell me that they can't reimburse me and there's nothing they can do, but they have no problems stealing our money for services they're not providing... They're crooks! Of course I have to talk to customer service representatives in another country who are hard to understand. That's really helpful! Bang up job ADT! I cancelled the service in February or March as my mother in law had passed away and we no longer needed the service. this is August and we are still being billed. We paid through the time period we were told that we would have to continue to pay (even though we would not be using it), including a partial month for the final payment. I closed on a new home in late December. ADT was quite aggressive in their sales tactics, but I moved forward with them anyway, as the prior owners had ADT and the home already had their equipment. An ADT tech came out to install my service today. I was charged over $2,500 for installation and did not receive a receipt. I reached out to ADT to obtain a copy of the receipt via email and was advised that I had to provide the verbal password that the technician never provided. 1. I was not made aware of this initial cost, but I chopped it up to the cost of service, 2. to add insult to injury, I was not provided a receipt nor a verbal password, but there was no delay in charging my account. I just signed the contract today, and I am well within the three business days to terminate services; however, I am being told that it would cost an additional $1,400 to do so. Would I recommend ADT to anyone? Absolutely NOT. Hopefully their service improves as I wait 7 to 10 business days for the verbal password in the mail, so that I can obtain an itemized receipt for the over $2,500 I spent today. Since then - NOTHING - no contact or follow-up whatsoever - even when I've twice requested a new book to replace the one I was given. When I agreed to sign up, they were offering service for about $27.00 per month. When the installer visited, I was sick with a lupus flare that also affected my cognition. Turned out, they took advantage of an elderly, ill woman, charging me not 27 but 47 dollars per month. Have an appointment on 8/27/20 with a window of 8 am - 12 pm to upgrade the Pulse system. Person assigned to the do the work never showed up and never called. When I called they tried to give me another window 1 pm - 5 pm. Service sucks. Wasted 4 hours waiting for someone to come. ADT cameras are unreliable and don't always work. Ring cameras work much better. I did email Andrew and he was quick to respond and addressed my concerns. Andrew offered compensation for our troubles and we are now satisfied. The day of the visit we get a call saying your Virtual Technical Assistant is here, how can we help you. When I said we had scheduled a onsite visit they said we schedule a virtual assistant. But today I called to tell them that we are being relocating from Las Vegas back to New York City for work and that I need to cancel my Las Vegas service - but still keep my other service. But the agent tells me I signed a 3 year contract and I have 1 1/2 years remaining that I have to pay for - $744.53!!!! I said I'm being relocated to NYC, not cancelling your service because I don't want it anymore. How am I supposed to plan for that when I initiate your service? Was told my control panel needed to be upgraded. During my upgrade installation on 3/21 I was advised my new monthly payment would be roughly $50 give or take with taxes. I was told by multiple account management representatives to give my account time to reflect the new monthly payment amount. 4/11/24 I was charged $97.50. When speaking with account management again I was advised per the contract I signed (there is no contract on file) my monthly payment would be $97.50. When I asked to cancel services I was advised I would have to buy out my contract roughly $4,000. How can I buy out a contract I didn't sign in the first place? I asked if the calls are recorded and was told yes. I asked for a copy of alleged signed contract and was told it couldn't be found but they would send me a copy asap. I purchased cameras for my parents house in 2019 and they moved up north due to higher cost of living. so I can called ADT to cancel the cameras and they said I am still under contract that I need to pay the difference. So I took the cameras down and reinstalled them at my house myself. I called ADT so they can transfer the service to the new location and after bouncing me around for about an house they say that in order for them to change the address I have to pay for the cameras in full. it doesn't let me continue paying my month payments since it's a new house so now I have cameras that I'm paying for and can't use if I don't pay them off. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. We had new doors installed in our house need the alarm sensors reinstalled. My wife called for an appointment. Received an email conformation and they never showed up. We called and they said they didn't have it on record. Yet we received and email confirmation that proves it. I wanted to reschedule and have them wave the already ridiculous assessment fee for wasting our time. They charge a fee to existing customers just to come out and access the situation even though I told them what the situation is. Then they would provide a price to fix it. Talk about double dipping. Couldn't give me any price over the phone. I mean how absurd is that. I tell them exactly what the service is and they can't give me an estimate over the phone? ADT has the WORST customer service. ever since we got our equipment installed early last year we were having issues and no one would come to address it. when you call you get transferred to 6 or 7 people and your issue will still not be resolved. we were paying for equipment that didn't work and could not get anyone to assist. the last straw was when our alarm went off and no one was home and we could not access any cameras or check the system to see what's going on. so instead of making sure our home was safe, we spent the next 3 hours being transferred from person to person to figure out why our equipment wasn't working. We've been ADT customers for 30 years, but no more. Dirty business practices and horrible customer service (they're either lazy or grossly incompetent, which are not good adjectives to be used along with security system). We called a few months ago to switch out phone number and thought everything was fine. Unbeknownst to us, they changed our phone number but didn't follow through connecting it back to the alarm system. As a result, our alarm began spontaneously ringing in the middle of the night a couple month later. We called back, they told us our alarm system has been disconnected since we changed our phone number! What have we been paying for then?? We demanded a refund, but it was basically wiped out because we had to have a service technician come by to stop our alarm system from going bonkers every night. The technician told us we needed to upgrade and that would have cost us $900 at least; we told him to just disconnect the alarm system and leave it at that - the technician was in and out of our house in 10 minutes. He tells us he won't charge us since he was late anyway and it took 10 minutes. Well, we still get charged $130. I spent 4 hours calling ADT (3 on one day, 1 on the second day) trying to get in touch with someone who can help and getting bounced around from operator to operator. Apparently, billing can't help if you want to dispute a claim, nor do they always understand the comments in the system - I continually asked for someone in Account Services or Account Management, but beyond getting my information, they just bounced me to the next person. Also, I could not understand a couple of the folks I talked to - heavy accent even asking them to speak slowly and enunciate (please for my sake!). No help to be found and at the end of the day, no way to dispute the charge. Pro tip: they're open 8AM-10PM, and apparently the first and last 2 hours of the day are the times to call without a long wait time. Mind you, you will still wait and may get bounced and may have to call another number, but it's shorter. Anyway, if you think ADT is a one and done type of system, it's not - everything requires some type of maintenance and we're very happy with the Ring. We bought the system, hired an electrician to come out and install (much cheaper than an upgrade/having ADT technician come by) and we have better surveillance and connect directly with our neighbors. Bottom line - we feel safer with the Ring app and there's no hassle. read more

After a breakup I needed help changing passcodes and changing battery etc. Getting a customer service rep on the phone was absolutely painfull and then to be told there is now a charge for battery replacement and labor and service charge I had it. I pay almost $70 a month for 20 year old Equipment and I can't get somebody on the phone or to change a battery?! I decided to go with Aaa home security and of course when I went to call ADT to cancel the service again waited 20 minutes on hold to be told they would transfer me to the cancellation department but that again will be another 20-25 minute hold so I guess when I cancel my payment I'll hear from somebody. This company is worth negative stars. Had a technician drill thru live wires within my wall and right next to the outlet. He fried the outlet and then ran the camera wire thru the hole that contains the cut wires. I called adt right away and got the run around for 2 days. I had to demand a tech come out and look at the mess and then had to fight to get a claim done so I can be reimbursed for the damages. Still at no point has anyone at this company called me or done anything to rectify the situation. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. ADT is a joke. They do not care about your homes safety when they drill thru a wall and damage live wires. and they definitely are not great with customer service because no one can call you back about anything. I must say how poor the customer service is for ADT. I have been without services since 5.10.21 due to the upgrade from 3g to 4g or whatever they needed to come to the house to do. I was told by the technician Henry that nothing would change and everything would be fine however it wasn't and their response was they could be out a month later to fix it which is insane by itself but also after the alarm was going off for over 20 minutes late at night and I had to literally bust it off my wall to turn it off. My door bell/camera didn't work properly not even 24hs, a 2nd person came to take a look and was not able to fix it, so he took it and placed my old door bell, now I have to allow a 3rd person in my house to verify I don't have the doorbell that they already retrieved. I've been an ADT customer for over 20 years and recently had an issue with my system that required customer service. My experience was absolutely TERRIBLE! For an ENTIRE YEAR, I had to call repeatedly because the issue would never get resolved, only to have incredibly long wait times to speak to someone. They frequently disconnect you and don't call you back so you have to call them back and wait another 45 minutes to reach a live person and then have to explain the situation again for the 100th time! They promised over and over again that I would get a return call from a local branch, which NEVER came. There's so much more to my story, but all I need to say is that their customer service is ATROCIOUS! There are so many efficient and economical systems on the market today, so don't waste your money on ADT. They will tie you into a contract, and then you're stuck. Untrustworthy company ever! I have 3 buildings on my property, one of which is an office from which we run our business. We purchased our first security system outright from a company called Norco Alarms who wired everything into a building we were renting. Once our new building was built, we moved that system to our new building. Years later, Norco Alarms accounts were purchased by ADT. We had alarm systems in 2 larger buildings and called ADT to install a small system into our small two room office building. A few years later, we decided to use another monitoring company as ADTs customer service was poor. I called ADT to cancel and advised them to let me know when they would be picking up their small (1 door l, 2 window, 1 motion sensor system). Months go by, and we don't hear from them. Then one day, they show up unannounced and tell our brand new secretary they are there to check on the system. She gives them access, and they dismantle and leave with the entire older system that we purchased from Ron of Norco Alarms that included 4 doors, 5 windows, 4 motion sensors, keypad, horn- EVERYTHING from the wrong building. I was out of the office for only a few hours, but when I returned I saw they took our entire system without verifying which one was theirs. I called the police and made a police report. The police came out but played it down. They said to contact ADT and they will bring it back, reinstall it and take the correct one. I called the next business day to find out about our old system but was told it was disposed of. They refused to acknowledge that they made a mistake and took out the wrong system. I contacted the police and was advised that I needed to hire a lawyer and get a judgment against them. Crazy! Like I have 200,000.00 to flush down the toilet!! Don't trust this company- they are a bunch of crooks!! Found out later I wasn't the only one this has happened to! read more

Camera never works, I had to sign a contract for 3 years with them and my time is about up. I cannot wait to tell them I am done! My camera did not work since Halloween (now its December) when I had to get a new router for my wifi. Because of this the Wifi password changed and my camera couldn't connect. They came to fix it and charged me a trip charge of $59 that no one mentioned at all and $139 for labor, to reset the camera pw! Apparently it is not possible to change your own pw yourself. Then mysteriously 3 days later the camera would not connect at all. Walked through customer service call to no avail, walked through a tech call to no avail and then they said they had to send someone out. I told them someone was just at my house and charged me almost $200 to reset a pw. They assured me there would be no charge for this second trip. And guess what, the tech came, fixed the camera and left. Looked at my credit card a few days later and there was another $59 trip charge. The camera is so grainy it wouldn't help at all with any type of identification and it was over $300, and it collects condensation, so at night you cant see anything! In order to have any recording time they also make you buy an SVR that is also over $200. The equipment is crap, and they nickel and dime you for not much service as near as I can tell. I have read a lot of reviews and it seems ADT used to be decent 3-5 years ago but something has definitely changed! Save your money and go with Vivint for security and Ring for cameras, even Amazon sells some pretty decent cameras for less than $100. (I know why they make you sign a 3 year contract when no one else does, its because they know you wouldn't stay long otherwise) read more

Terrible service. We had a burglar break our door walk straight to the register, took the square stand and register, returned inside of the store, hopped over the counter onto the employee side and looked for additional things, tried to open the register which was fixed to the bottom of the counter, went back to the car, looked into the trunk to fetch a tool, came back, hopped over the counter and took apart the cash drawer, and went back to the car, and came back once more. For a total of 4 entries and still no alarm was set off. He took a square stand ($100), iPad Air 1 16gb ($300+/-), cash drawer ($225), and cables to replace ($25), and to fix the door ($250). Police arrived around 2 hours later after the plaza security notified them. When the policed entered the store, the alarm went off and was then turned off by the police. I think a refund of the fees paid since the beginning of the contract is fair or a replacement of all property taken. We decided to cancel our contract and start over with another company. Now we "owe" them $239 to get out of a contract. Terrible. Based on the other reviews, I'm going to cut my losses and move on. Not worth 3-4 hours of my time on the phone. read more
