I did not choose this company myself; they were dispatched after a police officer arranged the tow. My vehicle broke down and a police officer called a tow truck from this company. Before getting into the truck, I specifically asked about the price and was told it would be $325 per hour. The trip took about one hour, so I reasonably expected a bill of around $325-$650 at most. However, after arriving, I was charged approximately $1,300. The company explained that I was being billed not only for the actual towing time, but also for the driver's travel time to reach me and for his return trip afterward. According to them, the driver needed nearly four hours of billable travel time for a route between Discovery Bay and Concord. This was never clearly explained before the tow began. I felt misled by the pricing and would not have agreed to the service had I known the true cost in advance. Make sure you get the total price in writing before accepting any service from this company. I would not recommend them. read more

Due to a very long story about a vehicle I purchased that should have had a current smog cert at the time of purchase, but did not, I had to start chasing issues with the van before I could properly register it with the DMV. I found Advance Auto from Yelp recommendations and even though it took 4 months to work through MANY issues, it was worth it. Jimmy was very communicative through the process. I can't tell you how many times you have to chase mechanics and shops for updates, which is really annoying when you're paying good money for their services. Jimmy was always on top of it and very responsive. What started as trying to pass smog, quickly escalated to chasing multiple CEL issues - bad fuel filter, leaking coolant system, full A/C system was not functioning, new radiator, power steering gearbox, multiple issues with fuel injectors, etc. Because I assumed the labor costs would accumulate, I chose to service the van here instead of closer to the bay and it certainly saved me a significant chunk of change. Every time we thought a problem was solved, another one popped up, which is why it took 4 months - juggling my work schedule to drop off the van for multiple projects. Every time I thought the CEL was gone permanently, it popped up and prevented me from smogging the vehicle. It drove me nuts, but Jimmy and the techs there figured out each problem one by one, and always started with the cheapest/simplest possible solution to make sure they didn't accrue unnecessary cost. And when we had to replace the fuel injectors for the 3rd time, they cut me a break on the labor for that whole issue. I really can't say enough things about these folks. read more

Towed my car in and spoke with Jimmy about what was going on, Told him that the Transmission cooler line disconnected from the radiator and needs to be rethreeaded, He still charges $125 to tell me nothing but they can't repair it and have to replace the Radiator and Lower hose , 3 Days later they finally finish it and wouldn't even clean up the fluid mess from under the car or even test drive it to make sure the transmission wasn't damaged, and to top it off didn't even plug back the sending unit to the electric fan His response about the transmission is well drive it and see if there's any problems This place just sucks read more

We all know how difficult it is to find a trustworthy mechanic. So when my dad found Advance Auto, I was cautious and reluctant at first, but since my previous mechanic had tried to rip me off by suggesting EXPENSIVE repairs that weren't even necessary (he said I needed a new radiator, when the actual issue was simply the thermostat), I decided to give Advance Auto a shot. The staff is friendly and their pricing is competitive. They gave me a quote for a new alternator that's several dollars below their competitors. Their work is fantastic and they back their work with a 2 yr / 24,000 mile warranty. They didn't pressure me with any "sales pitch" and I felt that's super important. I'm happy with the work they've done and look to using them in the future. My only issues thus far, which explains the 4 stars instead of 5, is (1) the care for my car's interior could've been better. I found a grease smudge on the fabric headliner above my door, which could've been easily avoided given some extra care. (2) They don't solidly adhere to a time they say they will call. I asked for a quote for some parts and I was told they we're gonna call me back in 15 minutes so they can put a price sheet together. One hour went by, then two, then three, until I had to call them back. This could be a result of being under-staffed, which is a shame because they do such good work. If they can improve in these aspects, they'll have a life-long, loyal customer in me. UPDATE: I got a message from Advance Auto apologizing for the oil smudge, and that they'll gladly clean it off the next time I visit. I went in for an oil change a month later told them the year, make, and model of my car, and I was impressed that they had noted in their system about removing the stain! That's service. Wonderful auto repair shop. A+++++ I can't say enough about the great experience that I had at Advance Auto. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I got my brakes replaced there and they did a superb job! I had my original factory pads replaced and rotors resurfaced all around on my Honda Civic. After getting the car back it feels like the car brakes better than it was new. My car now brakes very smoothly with no sound. They had all parts in stock and even showed me the old brake pads they took off to help educate me as to how much wear there was for my mileage. They showed me the new Honda factory pads before they installed them and confirmed that it was exactly what I wanted. I took my decently or maybe heavily modified (depending who you ask) Subaru WRX STI to this shop because I experienced severe engine problems on the freeway and pulled of immediately to the nearest shop. When I arrived I was greeted by a nice lady who said they were booked for a few days - which is the norm. (at least business was good right? that's reassuring) They called me back about two days later explaining how the PCV valve was leaking and that's why it lost oil pressure and was smoking all over. They thought if we replaced that, the problem would be solved - which is way off and just flat wrong. (Sorry guys) The part was only going to cost about $20 bucks but labor would be around $550, because the manifold had to come off in order to get to it. (In hindsight I realized you don't need to take off the manifold to change the valve) I knew they weren't trying to rip me off... but I just did not think that they knew exactly how these cars go together. Anyone who owns an STI knows they are fun little Japaneses race cars and can sometimes be hard to work on. I called up my local shop in San Jose - they do almost all my builds. After what I told them what Advance Auto told me, they knew there was something else entirely wrong. I did have to pay my local guys to bring the flat bed trailer and get the Suby home. The carnage was way worse then we had initially expected.... turbo blew, oil feed line, block overheated, blown head gasket so bad that the heads needed to be resurfaced and we had to open the block to assess the internal damage... it was catastrophic! damage!! So in all, I'm glad I didn't change my PCV valve for nothing LOL. you know what though, I did not experience any bad confrontation at all, no rudeness nor unprofessional at all. I WOULD recommend this shop to anyone who drives a bone stock American built vehicle or maybe your everyday bone stock Toyota or Honda. They probably do just fine work on these everyday cars Don't take a heavily modded car, truck or anything like that here BUT like I bet this shop does some good work on your everyday non-enthusiast stock vehicles. read more

I generally don't write reviews unless I can give a five star rating. Advanced Auto deserves all five of the stars I am giving them. I am new to Tracy and had to have my smog done on my 2006 Chevy Suburban. When the smog test failed with two separate codes, I was given a list of associated repair shops that specialize in doing Evap System repairs. I called four shops and only Advanced Auto would give me even a hint of a possible cost estimate. Their diagnostic rate was the lowest of all of them, and their availability was better than the other three shops. I set up an appointment to take my Suburban in for a diagnostic. I was quoted their general $85 rate. They had my truck for maybe three hours and called me back with the diagnosis: I needed a new sensor valve installed. I was quoted $320 for the repair over the phone and told them I would come pick my truck up as I couldn't do that work that day. When I got to the shop to pick my truck up they only charged me half of their quoted diagnostic rate and told me that whenever I was ready to do the repair work to give them a call to set it up. They said in the meantime they would look around for a lower cost part that was still adequate quality to see if they could help me bring the cost of the repair. I called them about a week later, a day before I was going to have the work done to let them know I would bring the truck in the next day. They were accommodating and ready to handle the work, even getting a jump on ordering the necessary part for the work. I took the truck to them the next day and found out they hadn't sourced the part yet as they were waiting for a call back from a supplier. They had me drop the truck off anyway and told me they would call me with a final quote before doing the work. A few hours later I got a call from them and was incredibly surprised to hear that the quote was now $220. I immediately gave them the go ahead to get the work done and less than an hour later my truck was done. Two days later the truck passed the smog retest and I lived happily ever after. I have to say, when it comes to automotive repair, I don't know that I've felt as comfortable as I have with Advanced Auto. They take the time to explain what is necessary to you, they explain it calmly and with no pressure. I felt like they were an advocate for me when we were talking about my need to budget and such. Overall it was probably the best automotive repair experience I've ever had and I would not hesitate to recommend Advanced Auto in the future. read more

Auto Repair Shops and Mechanics in general get the stereotypical bad wrap (often times deservedly so) for overcharging and charging for whatever they can - especially when dealing with women. It was quite refreshing that in my want to be hasty to get my 2013 Ford Focus repaired NOW (Friday), that Advance Auto cautioned me to be patient and have Ford check my car out on Monday(Ford's earliest appt.) for what is most likely going to be covered under warranty. It is great to know that I now have a local mechanic/auto repair shop that is HONEST and values customer service. If Ford is too expensive, Advance Auto will definitely be my first stop. I was greeted and I explained what I was looking for they quoted me 140 bucks which was a fair deal to me dropped the car off when I could get a ride and was told they would get to it around 330 got a call about 415 with 3 outta the 4 tasks completed couldn't do an alignment due to rear tires need replacing but arrived to the shop paid the bill only only 90 due to no alignment quick and easy.... I just moved to tracy so I'm glad first shop I ran into was a good one. No upsales no pitches just getting the work done which I appreciated. And Jessie gave a callback apologizing for not resetting the radio - which is not needed since it's very easy to reset it.) I had originally contacted mobile mechanics via Craigslist - 2 of them. The first one was a no-show; the second one didn't show up on time so I thought he wasn't coming, and I had contacted a tow service already. I could've saved some monies using a mobile mechanic. But after much thought - whatever extra I had to pay was so much worth the piece of mind that Jesse's shop is there in case I need to bring back the car.
