Instead of being welcoming and helpful, she was dismissive and made me feel like I was an inconvenience. A receptionist is often the first impression of a clinic, and unfortunately, this left a very negative one for me. I hope the management addresses this, as it makes patients feel very uncomfortable and reluctant to return.

Remember not all dentist is good at every dental service in this dental office. Know the difference between PPO and HMO insurance before you explained to the patient. They made the entire process easy and comfortable, and I felt well taken care of from the moment I arrived. Everything was explained clearly and the staff checked on me frequently to make sure I was ok. They started off with lower intensity and increased the intensity to one that was tolerable. The office was spotless and the results were fantastic. My teeth look brighter and I left feeling so happy with the outcome, just in time for a wedding this weekend. They gave me post-treatment instructions to take care of my teeth to maintain the teeth whitening. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a caring team and beautiful results!!

I came here yesterday which was on a Friday to get my teeth whitened. My appointment was for 11 am. Once i arrived, I had to fill out some brief new patient info from the ipad. Once that was done, I probably waited 3-5 minutes before i was seen. (That was awesome!) We walked to the back, and the dentist took me on a brief tour of the facility. It is really nice in the inside. After the tour was over she introduced me to one of the main dentist's and then she took me to the area where they would be working on me. Soo the dentist began to go over the teeth whitening procedure step by step. She was very thorough, and i appreciated that because that is exactly how i am. Also, i want to mention that her name is "Daniela" and she is the nicest dentist that i have ever encountered. EVER!! I felt like i had been a customer there my entire life, and in reality it was my first time there. After she explained everything she asked me if i had any questions which i did and we went over them one by one. Once that was over the first thing that they have to do is take a before pic. She took them on her cell phone and mine. Next, she pulled out a teeth chart, (not sure what its called), but its where she is able to determine what the current shade of your teeth is before the procedure is started. This allows the dentist to see how many shades your teeth increases after the procedure is complete. She wrote this information down and took pics of it as well. After that they have to fit your mouth for custom teeth whitening trays that you will take home with you. They put some pink stuff lol inside your mouth. Its cool not cold, and it has to stay in there for x amount of seconds. 20~30 seconds i believe. The prosthodontist will come and check your teeth to make sure everything is okay no cavities etc, and then the procedure can begin. It had been a while since i had eaten - i only had a banana and 2 eggs for breakfast. (I know, i know, but i'm trying to be healthy!!!) Daniela asked me did i eat recently i said no, and she offered me some "Muscle Milk" That made my day, and i think i drunk it all up in 8.4 seconds! Really that was amazing that she offered that b/c I've seen other dentist offices where this would not even be an option. Back to the procedure.... So to begin the teeth whitening procedure, first they have to put a lot of cotton stuff in your mouth, and under your tongue to protect all of the soft tissue above your teeth. She took her time and did it right. Then they put a big mouthpiece in your mouth as this will keep your mouth open for the duration of the procedure. They will also put vitamin E on your lips so that they will not get dry. Mine never did. Daniela told me before the procedure started that if the intensity was too much to handle then all i have to do is clap my hands and then she will lower the intensity. (I started on the HIGH level.) The teeth whitening process goes like this: Three 15 minute sessions, and an "optional" 4th session. After 12 minutes the machine will beep, and they will come and ask you how you are doing and tell you that you only have 3 minutes left. I like the fact that even before the 12 minutes was up they peeked in and asked me how i was feeling. After the first 15 minutes on high intensity, i felt no pain. I did the second session on high as well for the entire 15 minutes. Once i got to about 12 minutes into the second session i started to fell these little electric shocks in my mouth but i made it all the way thru on high once again. If i had to judge the pain on a scale of 1 to 10 i would give the last 3 minutes about a 3. So for my third session we decided to lower the intensity to medium instead of high. I made it thru the entire 15 minutes again. I would say that by the end of session 3 the pain was at a 4. I decided not to do the optional 4th session as the dentist told me that when she looked at my teeth it looked like the gains would be marginal and my teeth were already looking very good. So we stopped after the third session. After that they take all the stuff out your mouth, clean you up, take some after pics on their phone and my phone, and then you pay. They will also give you some relief medicine, aspirin, and a take home teeth whitening kit when you depart. Amazing experience!!!!! Summary Super Friendly Staff No wait time Very Clean inside They will take their time with you and explain everything very thoroughly before they begin Best dentist I've ever been to! They work within the limits of my insurance to make sure they prioritize the procedures I'll need. They also respect my time as I never wait more than a few minutes. I had an appointment yesterday and Ivory was Dr. Nguyen's assistant. As always, Dr. Nguyen was great. He always makes sure I am comfortable, and asks if I have any questions or concerns. I was also impressed with Ivory. During the procedures, he has a few questions for her regarding supplies, scheduling and such, and she was able to answer all his questions. It really just confirmed my opinion of how efficient, and capable his staff is, along with always being friendly and helpful. Great doctor and great staff!

Everyone knows that I like the dentist I have been going to ever since I moved to Texas. They had…read morea friendly staff, and were always accommodating to me. Alas, greed kicked in with their landlord, and he refused to renew their lease since his other properties were paying way more in rent, so I am left to find another dentist while my old dentist is in the process of building a new facilities. Let's fast forward to these folks that I have recently visited. They are conveniently located as well, and because of them being new, have a lot of time slots to accommodate my ever changing work life and real life. I went inside the first time just to take a look at the place and get a card to call them later. The next time I came in with my dental insurance information and set up an appointment for the next day. The facilities are new, so hygiene is not an immediate issue here. There is a small waiting area with a television showing whatever Netflix item is on tap. There is also a small play area for the kiddos next to the waiting area. You will also notice a check in, touch screen for you underneath and to the right of the television screen, right before you get to the receptionist window. On my day to actually get my check up done, I was shocked that the receptionist was so busy to whereas the sign in board was not within reaching distance at the window, and she was obviously taking care of serious business. The check in tablet was also offline, so I just waited until the receptionist was finished. Once she finished that important call, she was right in the mix. I was actually surprised that I had papers to fill out for the visit, because I was there the previous day to knock out all those items then. New place and I am sure she did not think about those forms while I was there. No biggie truly. It was not much paperwork either, so just a minor time inconvenience. I was whisked in soon after I finished my paperwork. I will admit, these people have up to date technology, and are very thorough. They sat me down, and gave me polarized sunglasses to put on. I realized this helps them to have a bright light in my face, hence my mouth the entire time they are playing with my tongue. They also handed me a remote and positioned a television above me so I can choose what I wanted to view on Netflix while I was getting worked on. "Hoarders" seemed like a good view, so I watched that through my process. They took their time with me, explain everything they were doing, and even asked if I wanted to hold the vacuum while they did my teeth cleaning with the water thingy (technical terms are my forte, cant you tell?!?). All in all, this place has thorough and friendly staff, and an even friendlier owner. I must have talked to him for about ten minutes on himself and his family while I was there. They have many Spanish speaking staff, so that is not an issue what so ever. This is a solid business if you are looking for a dentist.

This is disappointing because, despite everything I'm about to say, my smile is still much better than it was when I first started treatment. When I began orthodontic treatment, I had a severe overbite. I couldn't fully close my mouth, and my bottom teeth were actually wearing down my top teeth. Before agreeing to treatment, I made it very clear that I travel for work and would not be able to come in every month. I was told that this would simply extend my treatment time, but the total cost would remain a little over $2,000. I agreed and enrolled in a payment plan, making my payments whether I could attend appointments or not. There were times when I could only come in once every three months because of work. The treatment plan that was explained to me included braces on my upper teeth for approximately 16 visits and braces on my lower teeth for around 6 visits (I don't remember the exact numbers, but that was the general plan). However, when I made my final payment, Dr. Salas unexpectedly told me I was ready to have my braces removed. I was confused and asked, "What about my bottom braces?" His response was that I didn't need them anymore. At the time, I didn't question it much because I was honestly tired of wearing braces. Looking back, though, I feel like I paid for a treatment plan that I never fully received. My overbite is still present, and I can't help but feel that I paid the full price without receiving the complete treatment that was originally discussed. To make matters worse, after treatment I asked about the teeth whitening I had been told I would receive. Instead of honoring what I understood had been promised, I was told I would have to pay over $100 for it. That only reinforced my feeling that every opportunity was another attempt to charge me more. Dr. Salas was always kind and professional, which is why this experience has been so disappointing. I trusted him and the practice for years, but I left feeling like my concerns were overlooked and that I didn't receive the complete orthodontic treatment I expected after paying in full. Based on my experience, I can no longer recommend City Smiles Dental & Orthodontics or Portal Family Dentistry & Orthodontics. I hope they take concerns like mine seriously and improve their communication about treatment plans so future patients don't leave feeling the way I did.

This office made it to my 'Houston's Best' list (public under my profile). Dr. Khuu is the first dentist whom I've felt is an actual doctor who cares about my long-term oral health as opposed to just getting patients in and out of office like many dental offices. Also, I feel like an actual person here, not just a case to bill to insurance. The team is really, genuinely nice. I also love that I actually get to see her for my cleaning. Both Dr. Khuu and Lauren (staff) are meticulous, and I'm very happy with the thorough cleaning (it takes 45 mins to 1 hour, and I'm happy about it) and care I get here. That probably isn't super profitable for the office, yet because they answer all questions thoroughly (if for me, then probably for others as well), there's usually a little bit of a wait, so take that into consideration when you plan a visit. I still would much rather come here than any other dental office. Elyse and others at the front desk are also really nice and detail-oriented. Search no more for a great dental office. Acorn Dental is it. This office made it to my Best of Houston list. P.S. I found out by chance yesterday that there is a Dr. Acorn somewhere whose mail sometimes get sent here, haha.
