I stopped in yesterday to have a key fob reprogrammed and was asked to come back this morning at 8:30 when the boss would be there to assist me--which I did. I asked Ash if he could reprogram my key fob. He took a look at it, stepped away for about three minutes, and came back to tell me that the battery was simply in upside down! LOL! I truly appreciated his honesty. He could have easily charged me for something I didn't need, but instead he fixed the problem and saved me $$$$! I called Advance Lock and Key because they had been recommended by a neighbor. They were closing in 45 minutes, and I was about 30 minutes away. Ash said to bring it down and that we'd see what we could do. My Honda CR-V wouldn't open; both key fobs had stopped working (despite battery changes) and even the valet key wouldn't turn the lock. Luckily, one fob managed to work one last time. I drove to Advance, where Ash tested both fobs and confirmed they were dead (which I already knew). He quickly found the correct replacement model. Meanwhile, one of the old fobs kept sending the "lock" signal, so by the time we walked to the parking lot to program the new fob, the door was locked again. Ash quickly grabbed his door-opening tools and got it open. The total cost was about half of what Honda would have charged. read more

I went to Advance Lock Staten Island on Hylan Blvd on the 28th or 29th of June 2026. I went to get an extra key for my car. I did write a review on Facebook. Do not know if it shows up. I decided I have to get this review online for people to view. Ash the owner was there he made the key and I only had a credit card. Ash said do not worry about it. but he insisted, He said no, He then said wherever you come back. He insisted again. I am the kind of person who always pays my bills. But he said Renee forget it. It's always tricky getting a locksmith to change your locks especially when you love what's already there but only need it to be re-keyed. In my case, it was more complicated since it was an old but unique bolt and hard to match. I called Advance lock and they sent a gentleman whose name was as unique as he was, "Ash". I went here to have keys . needed 6 copies i thought because it was a lock smith that the keys would be done right unfortunately when i got home the keys did not work .i dont live near there so i did not bring them back. I've used advance on two occasions and in both instances, other shops told me it couldn't be done. I was charged a fair price for both. I know times are tough, but ripping off a customer is uncalled for. I was charged $100 for and old case for my original FOB. Be wary of the fast talking Ash. Dear Ash, I respectfully disagree with your assessment. First of all it was cloudy, not raining. The brand new head you mention is an old piece of plastic from another key that you had in a drawer. I also had told you I had put new batteries in the units, so why would you replace the batteries? As the pictures show, the FOB's are the original units. An honest review will not hurt you but inform you on how to fairly treat your customers. Very sad how one review can ruin your reputation. I never said you were disrespectful. Nor am I being disrespectful by expressing my honest opinion with facts that substantiate that opinion. I wish you all the best, but don't react so maliciously to just one review. Moving to a new house is stressful along with all of the associated tasks that need to be completed. Security is very important to my husband and I, so naturally, replacing our locks was first priority since we had no idea who had copies of our key after the house was on the market for a while. Ash could not have been nicer or easier to work with. He alleviated so much stress in the moving process. He was easily available and accommodated our schedule. He met with my husband and I in our home, explained our options, providing both catalogs and also samples of the various locks and he was also was able to provide feedback regarding style of lock to match the aesthetic of our home (an added bonus!). My husband and I were eager to have our new locks installed and Ash provided multiple updates on when the locks would be ready as they were a custom job. As soon as the locks arrived in his shop, he quickly set up an installation date. When the day arrived, he was punctual and efficient. He also took the time to make sure my husband and I were happy with the job. Ash had us try each of the locks individually and made sure we both felt comfortable with our new locks. Pricing wise, he was very fair and comparable, if not better, than the other quotes we received. I could not recommend Advance Lock and Key enough. The key to my filing cabinet broke inside the lock. I called at the last minute asking to bring it in and Ash told me to come right over. Getting it out was tough, we thought he might have to drill it out but he was able to get it out after a few minutes. They also made me an extra copy of the key. It was all for a reasonable price. Everything took about 10mins. Ash is such a great, friendly, helpful guy. He saw me rolling it from my car and helped me bring it in and also put it back in my car for me. My 6 year old misplaced my 2016 Rogue car keys. They were a flip key fob. I tore up the house looking for them. Went to see Ash at Advance to get a replacement. I was a walkin. He came within 10 minutes to help me and I had a spare key made within 30 minutes. Everyone was very nice in the store. The key ended up being $30 less than another locksmith in staten island. Guess what? I found the key the next day behind my sons fruit loop box. Unfortunately, the owner of Advance told me that the keys CANNOT be reprogrammed for another car so a deal could not be worked out.
