I learned that Advanced Care Pet Hospital declaws cats which has been proven to be physically, emotionally, and mentally detrimental. Declawing, which is amputation of the third digit of the toe, sentences a cat, if it lives through the surgery and recovery, to lifelong pain and suffering. I recently spoke to an employee at this hospital and asked if I could send them information on how detrimental this is to cats, she said they are well aware that it's detrimental and they have no need for supporting documentation. They will continue to offer this major surgery. Many states are banning this, making it illegal to perform this mutilation of a cat's paws (doesn't matter whether a guillotine-type cutter, scalpel, or laser is used--it's inhumane). I have nothing but positive experiences here. I adopted a Senior cat from the humane society that ended up having diabetes. They did everything they could to make it affordable for me to keep Bob and when time came to put him down they could not have been more compassionate and kind to us both. Same with my next senior cat Lily. Now I have Missy the cat and Abby the dog and again I trust them and appreciate the way they go out of their way to offer care and advice and never make me feel like a dunce with my barrage of questions. I am absolutely outraged as I was out of town and my mom and 16 year old daughter brought.my dying cat to advanced and they refused medical attention and by the time they got her to Boysen she had died. Dr. Drey did not treat my dog for glaucoma and now he is blind. 1 year ago he was treated with $500 worth of antibiotics and anti inflamatories over a 3-4 month period with no results. Pressures were taken and I was told they were 30 then 31 on another visit. NO glaucoma medication was offered. Spent $$$ on emergency room visit then referred to a vet ophthalmologist. Found out 1 year later these pressures were abnormal indicating glaucoma after a visit with the vet ophthalmologist, but by that time he was permanently blind. My foster dog was dying of infectious hepatitis and also meningitis with DIC none of which I knew at the time. I only knew he was very, very sick. Dr. Drey diagnosed him with a gastrointestinal upset in the late morning, and he and the vet tech gaslighted me and the rescue when we tried to tell them it was not just a simple GI upset. Finally over the phone later in the day, the vet tech referred me to emergency vets-- which are simply no longer available. Twelve hours after seeing Dr. Drey my foster dog, who I loved and was going to adopt, was dead. I felt like my concerns and information about the dog's symptoms were totally ignored with disastrous results. When I called to inform the clinic the next morning, the clinic owner defended Dr. Drey's actions. So disappointing! Now I have a dead dog and post-traumatic stress about the whole situation. read more

We just moved to the area a few weeks ago. I did a search and found Advanced Care Pet Hospital online and saw they were available 7 days a week. Their web page indicated they care for those who care for their pets, but this is a lie. When I contacted them because my Boston Terrier had developed some health issues they asked if we'd been seen before at the clinic and I replied no we'd just moved here. Then whoever I was speaking with said well if this is an emergency you need to go to somewhere else or if not then call other vets in the area to get an appointment......Their website is a lie and their actions demonstrate they could care less about the owners who care for their pets.......worse their actions demonstrate they care less about the animals. read more

Why don't we have a vet that is open late night hours? Throughout Saint Cloud and sartell there is not one vet that is open for emergency care until the cities. My puppy passed away last night because she couldn't get immediate medical attention and couldn't hold on for the hour and a half trip that it took us. I will never bring my pet here again. They sent me home 3x with my dog who was very ill. I took him to a different vet and they diagnosed him with pancreatitis. Thank god I got a second opinion because otherwise he would be dead! He isn't in the clear yet, but I'm praying that he continues to do well. Here is my experience with Advanced Care Pet Hospital summarized below: First trip- I took him in because he was lethargic, experiencing loss of appetite, and throwing up. We went to Advanced Care because he's been seen previously for routine checkups there. The vet, Dr. Gerds, injected him with steroids and something to get rid of his nausea. The vet told me he has Masticatory Myositis, which I will be getting a second opinion on as well. She sent us home with steroids and instructed me to give my dog Pepcid. Second trip (three days later)- My dog appeared to get worse so we went in again. This time we saw Dr. Drey. He actually took my dog's blood and ran some tests, which I appreciated. He discovered my dog was fighting an infection, so he sent us home with antibiotics and told me to come back two days later if my dog still wasn't eating. He instructed me to keep giving my dog the steroids and Pepcid as well. Third visit- My dog still wasn't improving, so we went back and saw Dr. Drey again. This time he injected antibiotics, something to get rid of his nausea, and I believe something to calm his stomach. I had to ask him to inject some sort of nutrients because at this point my dog hadn't eaten anything for 3 days. I want to add that our vet tech this visit was Lyticha. She doesn't come off as very knowledgeable. When I asked her if she thought my dog was going to get better, she just shrugged her shoulders. I appreciate honesty, but at the same time I think she needs to work on her communication skills when it comes to delivering unfortunate news. It made me feel so hopeless. Dr. Drey sent us home with Entyce to stimulate his appetite and instructed me to keep giving the same meds, but reduce the steroid to 1x per day. The Entyce didn't work, so the next morning we went to a different vet where they actually took X-rays and ran a test that diagnosed him with pancreatitis. My dog is now hospitalized and I have faith that he's going to make it as he's improving. I cannot believe Advanced Care didn't check for pancreatitis... also the fact that Dr. Gerds prescribed steroids which actually weaken the immune system! I wasted about $500 at Advanced Care. I believe they made everything worse and if I didn't take my dog to a different vet, they would've also caused his death. If they would've found the pancreatitis right away my dog might be well right now instead of suffering for almost an additional week. Please, please don't take your animals here if they need something beyond immunizations... read more

I've been going her for my two dogs for years. I'd never take them anywhere else if I could help it. They always seem to remember their customers names and the names of the dogs. One of my dogs gets very nervous as a result of being bitten by a bulldog when he was very young. The doctor and assistants are always respectful of his condition and have made an extra effort to build a relationship with him, which has made bringing him in so much easier. What kind of pet hospital doesn't have a doctor on hand. Can't plan and emergency between 8am-whatever. It's an emergency.

They were very accommodating and got my sick doggie in that night. They obviously care very much for animals. But they misdiagnosed him with something else that had some similar symptoms. I'm disappointed that x-rays weren't offered earlier, as I've learned in research, that x-rays are used to diagnose what he had and what they thought he had. I don't know if they're trying to save people money or what, but it should be the owners choice if they want to pay for a proper diagnosis. I'd rather pay thousands for a live doggie than $500 for a dead one. He had yarn stuck in his bowels for 9 days while being treated for something else. The second time I was in there I said "is it possible he ate something and is plugged up?" That didn't go anywhere, they said because he had diarrhea. In further research I learned that DIARRHEA IS A SYMPTOM of a partial gi block!!! They did ask the first time I was there if I knew if he ate anything, and I said I didn't think so. I understand that diagnosing animals that can't talk must be difficult. I feel like after making the initial diagnosis, everybody got tunnel vision on that and just kept treating the symptoms of that. Then he pooped out some string and I, likely fatally, pulled the rest out. He died around 12 hours later. I feel like this should have been discovered earlier. The most disappointing thing, and the reason I'm writing this review is I wrote them a letter on Messenger with some questions about the whole thing. I know they saw it, and they didn't even respond. I wrote back a week ago and it hasn't even been seen. So they're ignoring me, or they blocked me. I don't know why they went in to CYA mode. I think that is deplorable and unprofessional and shows guilt too. I'm disappointed in the level of competence and professionalism. I feel that if I went to a different vet, my baby would still be alive. read more

Dr. Amanda Poepke and the Advanced Care staff have been absolutely amazing to me and my kitty Nye. Nye was extremely sick a few months ago and I was terrified that he was dying. I frantically called around to many area vets because the emergency clinic wasn't open. Advanced Care was booked up but they said that a vet could see my kitten between regularly scheduled patients. Dr Poepke correctly diagnosed my cat, took the time and did the paperwork to refer me to TWO specialists (during an already busy day!), and clearly explained to me how to care for Nye to properly manage his condition. I have had wonderful interactions with the receptionist staff-I have met two and they have been nothing but pleasant, and kind. The vet techs have been quick, accurate, and warm in their work. I feel completely comfortable with everyone who works in the building and they have earned my trust through the good work they have done during our visits. During our first visit we did x-rays and an exam for under $200 which is a great price-in the cities I paid nearly $500 for x-rays. Can't say enough wonderful things about this clinic and the folks there. read more

The Veterinarians and staff are nice but they seem money hungry! They over book so you wait an hour to be seen! Always trying to sell expensive meds! Our dog had a surgery scheduled and a half hour before surgery they left a message for my husband they were to busy and needed to cancel. I just moved to St. Cloud and did not have a regular vet yet and my 1 year old puppy chopper got sick. I was stuck at work on a Sunday and My girlfriend had to find a vet that could see him on a Sunday and fortunately she found advanced care. She had nothing but great things to say about the vet and even though we where very worried about our dog and prepared to spend a lot of money they where more than reasonable with their pricing and he was feeling better in just a few hours. This has been one of the worst visits to a vet I have ever had. Me and my girlfriends bearded dragon was defecating blood and would not eat willingly. I called the Advanced Pet Care on a Wednesday, only to get a spot on Friday at 6:00, an hour before they closed. I brought her in hoping to find hookworms or something reasonably to cause the bleeding, sadly I did not. I had THREE stool samples. 1 I got from the enclosure, 1 I got from soaking her in water, and another that she dropped at the vet. Two were tested and she tested positive for pinworms and coccidia, a parasite EVERY DRAGON HAS. The doctor came in for maybe two minutes, felt her belly for what I assume was for some sort of impaction, NEVER looking inside her mouth or anywhere. By the way that two minutes of pressing her belly adds 50$ to the bill and to top it all off SHE DIDNT EVEN FIND THE CAUSE IF IT. The assistant came in saying to dose these medications for the pinworm and coccidia, I asked if those were the cause of the bleeding and mind you there was a lot of blood. She replied "I'm not actually sure". I had to ask her to ask the doctor and she came back and replied "she says it's the cause". No explanation whatsoever, very bad service, the doctor didn't explain anything to me. Okay fine. I followed the treatment only to have our beardie dead on her back the next day. Thanks for telling me nothing about the dragon's condition, charging me 106$, and ultimately not helping the animal and letting her die. I force fed her and forced fed her vitamins and hydrated her. I have another beardie that is almost 20 inches in length and is healthy as can be. Don't come her for exotic pets, go to Elk River. read more

I chose to go to this pet hospital because of the high ratings it received on it's reviews. We were perfectly satisfied with the care we received for basic check-ups/vaccinations for our now 6 month old puppy. When he was sick with horrible diarrea we chose to take him in to this vet. We found that he had coccidiosis and giardia. At this point I felt that I was taking my puppy to someone I could trust. They prescribed him an antibiotic and said it should clear up after the course of the medicine and if not- bring him back in. After the week of meds he got his diarrhea back and I brought him back in. He still had the same thing so they gave him the same med for a longer duration of time. I asked if something else should be tried as my dog had been sick now for 3 weeks- they said no, this should take care of it. After this treatment he was STILL sick. I wanted another opinion so my boyfriend called a family friend who was a vet. We found out that the medicine they gave our dog something that is not typically used to treat these parasites and that with the parasites it is commonly known that they need a 21 day treatment to entirely rid the puppy of the parasite- which we got a 5 day treatment. He told us that we could find the medicine he needed at fleet farm and how much and how long we should give it to him. After finding this out we looked it up online and found that he was right. We called Advanced Petcare to question them on this and they told us they only carry the one medicine that can be used for it and that is why they gave it to him. During this call I found that on my second visit they only tested my puppy for ONE of the TWO parasites he was originally diagnosed with. Their reasoning? The tests are costly and they assumed it was just the one he still had! I trust that my vet is taking care of my dog and it should be MY decision if I want to save money or spend it to ensure my dog is well. Secondly, I wouldn't have had to spend any money the second time if they would have treated him correctly. He is now well thanks to our family vet friend but I would never trust my dogs life to this clinic- whether or not this was a life threatening illness- my dog suffered for longer than needed. read more
