These are screenshots of Pixie's labs at the time of being discharged as stable from Granite City Pet Hospital

I wish negative stars was an option. My dog DIED hours after leaving Granite City Pet Hospital and being labeled stable. I'm making this post to warn other people so their family doesn't have to go through what my family is going through. On September 29th,2023 I brought my dog in for an emergency daytime appointment. Pixie hadn't eaten in about a day and half. I express multiple times my concern over hypoglycemia because it's common in tiny dogs when they haven't eaten enough food. Later that day I get a phone call to pick her up. The clinic tells me she's doing great. She was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and she was being sent home with Metronodazole and Entyce. I ask about her glucose levels and I'm assured they're fine. Pixie and I go to bed that night and I wake up to my dog dead. The following day I get an email from Dr Nelson stating he thinks she has Addisons and I should bring her into the clinic that week. Attached to the email was her bloodwork. I was instantly disgusted to discover my fear of hypoglycemia was real. Pixie was discharged with a glucose level of 29!!!!! The following day I find out they were trying to save me money and they NEVER ran in house labs. They sent them off. So Pixie was diagnosed without labs and had her labs been read she could have gotten treatment. This was for an emergency visit. Then Dr. Nelson won't even own his faults and claims because I didn't get a necropsy done to prove he was at fault he's innocent. As if the lab work of Pixies at the time of discharge doesn't prove fault. Go elsewhere for better care for your family member. Dr. Nelson has multiple corrective actions from the board on his record. He lacks accountability and competency. There are plenty of better clinics out there. Pixies actual labs are pictured with this review. This what Dr. Jeff Nelson feels is stable and good condition.

Dr. Nelson takes really good care of my babies I'm very happy with that, a little pricy, but happy. I called to see if I could get Rocco a grooming appointment and was told that 2 of their groomers had left and the one that is there can't groom dogs over 30 lbs, so that leaves out 2 of my 3 pups. The one groomer was amazing and Rocco really liked her and her rates were the best, now I'm on the hunt for a new groomer that is around the rate and I don't think one exists. If anyone has an idea of an inexpensive groomer please let me know.

Have brought my pets here for years. Always has a wait in lobby but I think that's a sign of good service. After several nail trims for my lab I don't think I will bring him here again. It is not the dreamed trim, just regular they said. I noticed the day after that he has a lot of rough spots and several nail slivers that travel up the nail a bit. They said if he appears in pain to being him back. I think I will try and fix myself for bow, can't be worse right?

Follow up: they deleted my review from their Facebook page, and still have not reach out to me to discuss the issue. This is absurd.

The staff is…read moreknowledgeable, compassionate, and thorough, and I appreciate that they are AAHA accredited -- something only a small percentage of clinics achieve. That accreditation really matters when it comes to emergencies or situations requiring surgery, because it means they follow strict standards for safety, anesthesia, cleanliness, diagnostics, and medical protocols. If you want top‑tier care for serious or urgent issues, this is absolutely the place to be. I was offered one of their Canine Wellness Packages, and while the flyer was helpful, I didn't receive much detail about the terms, conditions, or exclusions beyond what was printed. I like to fully understand what I'm signing up for, especially when it comes to annual plans. I purchased the $432 Wellness Package, which includes two comprehensive wellness exams, two intestinal parasite screenings, internal organ function screening, and 5% off additional services. The flyer shows there is also a $663 Enhanced Package, but I wasn't offered that option during my visit. For reference, I spent $3,557.73 last year on my middle‑aged chiweenie, and the wellness plan saved me $1,404.59 -- which is impressive for a healthy dog with no chronic conditions. She only had a few minor issues like diarrhea from eating something she shouldn't have. I can see how this plan might be even more valuable for dogs with chronic medical needs, but for my situation, it was still a meaningful savings. Companions also accepts direct pay from Trupanion, which makes expensive emergencies far less stressful because you don't have to pay everything upfront. They also accept CareCredit, which is helpful if you need assistance with payments. I also really like their app -- being able to chat with staff and book appointments directly is incredibly convenient. That said, due to financial reasons, I'll only be bringing my dog to Companions for true emergencies going forward. For routine vaccinations and annual checkups, I recommend looking into a prepaid plan through Petco's Vital Care Premier, which offers unlimited exams and discounted vaccinations at a much lower cost. Overall, Companions Animal Hospital provides excellent care, especially for emergencies or complex medical needs. Their AAHA accreditation gives me confidence, and their staff has always treated my dog with kindness and professionalism.

We had adopted a cat from a shelter. There were health issues after a few days. Dr Anne agreed…read moreto see the cat on short notice and donated some services, in support of us being an adopter of an animal needing a home. This clinic obviously cares about the bigger picture...helping animals in need over making big bucks. That is the type of business I like to see supported by animal lovers.
