I could not be happier with my visit to Dr. Barry P. August! I was a new client and I found him…read morethrough Yelp. It was close to my house which was a big bonus. Even better was the fact that I called around Wednesday, to get a Saturday appointment and they got me in that very week. Seeing I work downtown and I am about to move across the country my time is limited, so I really appreciated it. Oh, and they assured me that my purchase would be ready in time for my move in a few weeks.
The office is located off of Opdyke in the Bloomfield Hills Shopping Center (Hollywood Market). I didn't even know it was there.
They had a pretty good selection too! Burberry, Bebe, Coach, Anne Klein, Ray Ban, Ralph Lauren, Versache, DKNY, Lafont.... Also, right now the second pair of frames are half off. And the staff, especially Rachel, were extremely helpful and patient as I tried on 99 percent of their sunglass frame inventory! I am not kidding. She even had random knowledge, like these are the frames Rihanna was going to have made into sunglasses....love that kind of stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The doctor was very nice and very thorough. He paid particular attention to the fact that macular holes and macular degeneration run in my family. He ran tests I have never even heard of before. I had a field tests which records your eye as you click a buzzer every time you see a light. I believe it tests your peripheral vision. I had my eyes dialted and the fun glaucoma poof (sharp blast, more like it) of air straight to the eye ball. I thought it was really cool when he photographed the back of my eye and saved it to his computer to compare in the future. He showed me my macular region and confirmed that my eyes were healthy and I did not need to worry.
I thought it was weird when my last eye doctor changed my prescription, as my prescription had not changed in years, maybe even a decade. However, Dr. August prescribed me at my old prescription, which seems to aide in my vision. He also removed the astigmatism, which greatly helped!
I have been rather bummed for the last year, because every time I wore contacts my eyes would turn beat red. It was the reason why I went to the eye doctor (not Dr. August, wish I did go to him) before. However, that doctor had no advice really, and I ended up just not wearing them. Dr. August suggested I switch to daily disposables, which are particularly good for sensitive and allergy eyes. It totally makes sense. No build up to irritate my eyes. Just wear and toss....no nasty contact cases or messing with solution that may people have reactions to. And he gave me 10 pairs to take home prior to my glasses, contacts, and sunglasses arrived. Very nice. He also hooked me up with rebates. Basically, for about 50 dollars more you get double the contacts. I am still wearing them four hours later and my eyes feel great! Oh, and if I do not use all the contacts and my prescription changes, he will switch out the contacts for me at my next visit.
Also, they had no issue with me bringing my own frames and just purchasing the lenses. They even really liked my Badgley Mischkas! I am so excited to get them!!!!!!!!!!! They are stunning (please read my Sama, Beverly Hills, CA review).
So, for $810.00 I got lenses for my Badgley Mischka eyeglasses, six months of daily disposable contacts, and Burberry sunglasses with polarized lenses. Staff told me that the lenses without polarization fade. That is cheaper than the original price of my Badgely Mischka frames! Score!!!!! PLUS I have 75 dollars in rebates! They even gave me an extra receipt for my health savings account and for the rebate.
I cannot wait to pick up my glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HIGHLY recommend.
