I wish I had read these reviews before booking with Mitchell Eye-Centre…read more I had a "refractory lens exchange" 4 1/2 weeks ago, which cost me $10,000. What a nightmare -- one of the worst health-care experiences in my life. Dr Patrick Mitchell spent a total of 5 min with me during the initial consultation/exam and pre-surgery. He was rude and abrupt with me. The staff were rude, dismissive, and incompetent... horribly long waits; inaccurate and confusing written-information; patients are treated like cattle at a meat-processing plant. Only a few of the technicians were pleasant, helpful, and had decent manners. I was provided with a number for a so-called "24-hour emergency call-line". I phoned it around 5 times, and only once was it answered by a live person. The other 4 times I left messages and was called back HOURS later by a rude staff-member who gave me inaccurate and dismissive answers to my questions. That's when I finally gave up on that clinic. I agree with the sentiment of another ex-patient who stated that she felt like sending the Mitchell Eye Centre a card saying... "Sorry to have bothered you". I would add "... and I'm never coming back..." To top it off, 4 1/2 weeks after surgery (and spending $10,000), my eye-sight is 20% blurry and I'm still light-sensitive.

Something went terribly wrong during surgery which ended up being about an hour long, terrible pain like shards moving around, he did not disclose that lens fragments were left in my eye, even though I repeatedly went for follow up due to exruciating pain. He never disclosed ... he did after 2 months refer me to a retina surgeon for assessment of my retina - but NOT because of fragments. The retina surgeon is the one who told me lens fragments were left in my eye and should never be left. I had to have more surgery and it is almsot 2 years later and that eye is always in varying degrees of pain from 2/10 to 9/10 pain levels. Damage to eye seems to be permanent from having lens fragments moving around in eye for 3 months before being removed.

I didn't have my prescription on hand for the consult so the same day after I was home from my job I emailed her back with a copy of my prescription. I didn't hear back for 5 days so on Dec 18, 2023 I emailed again to touch base to make sure my email was received as I was waiting for a more concrete price for my procedure. Leanne didn't email me back until Dec 27, 2023. The price range that was given to me were very large (from $400/per eye to $2140/per eye). I didn't want to apply for financing if I didn't have to, but i genuinely had no idea what my surgery was going to cost me. So I emailed again on Jan 24, 2024 to go over the prices again as I was a little confused. It's been 8 days and no response and overall I'm very disappointed in the customer service and lack of information. I called the Lasik MD line in Calgary, AB, and cancelled my appointment . I do not feel comfortable giving money to a place that is not able to answer my questions and return my emails. Additionally, the person (Ali) I spoke with from Patient Care Centre said they were unable to provide me with an email confirmation of my appointment cancellation. Not having a paper trail of correspondence also doesn't make me feel very comfortable, in the event I am accused of missing my surgery and/or have to pay a penalty. I will be looking elsewhere for laser eye surgery, if you like being kept on "read" then Lasik MD is for you.

I had lens replacement surgery to correct for distance that in my mind and according to a second opinion from an unbiased outside optometrist, was not as successful as should be expected. After 9 months, the surgeon was still evasive and did not agree with my concerns about the results and the Gimbel Operations Manager was rude and unresponsive to my emails.

They start off giving you a mild oral sedative that's supposed to calm any nerves. A nurse will come and get you, and take you to the surgery room. Introduction's are made, doctor and assistants. Then the procedure begins. The only discomfort I felt was the pressure on my eyeballs. They freeze your eyes, so you feel slight sensations from where the push around your eyes. The lasering only takes 1 min or so, and you smell what people have described as a burnt hair aroma. That's exactly what it smells like. More time is spent in preparation of the eyes then the surgery itself. Oh one more thing. They have a really comfy waiting area with recliners. They also let family members watch the procedure if you so desire. Still to early to say what the outcome will be. I just had the surgery yesterday. So far so good. Just a little blurry/ foggy from the post op eye drops.

I've experienced some dryness during recovery, as to be expected, but no other negative symptoms. The office is nice, the staff were friendly and professional, and Dr. Demong was very attentive and knowledgeable. I had some hesitations based on some reviews for Dr. Demong online, but reached out to former patients and a friend in training to be an ophthalmologist, and was assured that he is of the highest standard and one of the best in Calgary/Canada. I would recommend him to any friends or family.

I have had laser surgery on both eyes before with no problems in a different city. Then I had my…read moreleft eye redone with no problems. In both cases, there was almost instant improvement in my sight. In the summer of 2013, I had my right eye redone at this clinic. The result was terrible. My left eye was strong on far sight, and my right was strong on near sight. I wanted to increase my far sight vision on my right eye, so I went to this clinic for the procedure. The procedure cost quite a bit more, as my eye was treated before. Right away, I knew something was wrong. Very poor near sight and very poor far sight. I waited a week and no improvement. Even the optometrist was silent every time I went in for the required follow ups. Eventually I went back to this clinic and a tech spent 45 seconds testing my vision and wrote down that I had 20/30 vision. A different doctor came in then, since the one who completed my procedure was not available. She asked why there was a problem, and I told her how I can't see near or far and that 45 second eye test was not accurate, I can guess what the letters are during the eye test, just by the blurry shape. So later that month, I did get to see the original doctor and he indicated that there was abnormal cell growth and that is why I can't see and they will have to do another procedure. My vision was bad from the minute I left the procedure room, so this theory indicates that cells instantly grew after the procedure to wreck my vision. I had the second procedure and my far vision is a little better but my near vision is extremely poor. I need reading glasses to do anything. I need them for my job, shopping, using a computer, plugging anything in, and of course reading. I basically went in with vision that was not too bad to ending up with wearing reading glasses most of the time. The reason I originally had laser vision was to not have glasses. I might have believed the story about cell growth if it wasn't for a few things. I have had my eyes done twice before as I indicated and the great results were almost instant. This time, instantly bad results, so I don't believe the abnormal cell growth story. Before the procedure they put a name tag on my right side. The staff told me they do that so no mistake is made, correct person on the correct eye. Were there previous incidents where mistakes were made? When I entered the procedure room, the nurse said to me, "So today we are working on the left eye". I said "No..., my right eye is being treated". So now I am convinced they used the wrong procedure setting on the equipment, as how could my vision end up being so wrong. I've spent thousands of dollars on the procedure, losing wages for taking time off work and expensive optometrist visits to end up with worse vision and wearing glasses. My quality of life has gone way down. Now this clinic has not abandoned me. I still have another visit and there was talk of a more invasive procedure, but I think I have had it with the procedures which have wrecked my vision. Maybe that was the plan after all; wait me out as it has been 10 months now and I am ready to just suffer with my poor vision. I'm sure 95% of the people who have visited this clinic have walked out with great vision, but sadly, not me.

They take you through various offices trying to upsell services for lenses, contacts, drops, eye pads, sterile wipes etc etc. We got to a point where it was uncomfortable to say no so, we ended up buying few items close to $150 not covered by any insurance plans. Dr. Khosla said, "receptionist will provide instructions on how to use the products". Receptionist said, "read the instructions on the product". Service is the last item on their list so please avoid this clinic if you can. They are there to sell not to serve. Yes, they will do your vision check and bill Alberta health even when you don't need or want one. We just had ours done a day before, so the doctor just took the prescription from our other doctor, ran the same number in 60 seconds and said yes, it is right. To top it all, they will only give you 10% discount on sales if you give then 5 star rating. This is blatant attempt to buy the ratings. This was the most dishonest eye specialist I visited in my years of experience. Stay away from them. There are far better and honest doctors who believe in serving the patients rather than treating them like potential buyers.
