Dr. Simoni saved my life, literally. He's an amazing doctor, but I question his front office staff, and wonder if they are there in his best interest. I loved how he made me feel special and did everything he could to relieve my doubts about my GI issues. After being with him for about 3 years, I was promptly dropped as a patient, apparently because they were not contracted with my new insurance company. Just called them because I was not happy with my current Gastro specialist and after being on hold for 12 minutes and them taking all the information, they said I have to send them all of my medical records before they decide if they want to see me. Wow. First time I have heard of that. No thanks. You are not the last specialist on earth. I've had very positive experiences with Dr. Simoni and his staff. I go to many specialists for many different problems, but Dr. Simoni is one of the very best. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a GI doctor. He does not overbook patients who come to his office. There is usually only a very short wait. He also doesnt rush you once you get in to see him. He is very caring and takes his time with you and makes sure he answers all your questions. You better believe that he will keep testing until he finds out what your problem is. I have had several colonoscopies and endoscopy performed by him. No need to be afraid. He is probably the best when you need this done. Sure, preparation is a pain in the butt (no pun intended), but the procedure is done before you know it, and you have no after affects. What more can I say..... he is great. Office will tell you "You're not welcome here!" if you have Anthem Bronze. I called Dr. Simoni Office for a follow up GI procedure and confirmed with front desk that they accept my Anthem insurance. When I arrived, they said they did NOT accept my insurance. After returning home, I verified with Anthem that Dr. Simoni DOES accept my insurance. I would give no stars if I could. Dr is ok but the office and billing practice is atrocious. When I went for a procedure, I was not told that they were not contracted with any insurance company. So I paid what conveniently was my 10% had they been contracted. 6 months later, I receive a bill for $798. I called and was told that they are not contracted and this is my balance. The gal said they tell everyone that they are not contracted with so it is in me. If I was told that, then I would have questioned and went to the hospital where it was 100% covered. Or, I would have paid in full as I did with the amount that they told me. I think this is bad billing practice and they are trying to get all the money they can. read more

After reading reviews, I found I'm not the only one that has experienced horrendous service from the staff. Dr. Simoni was recommended to me by a couple of co-workers who say he is fantastic! I wish I could get past the staff, make an appointment and confirm their rave reviews. I've been trying for two weeks and can't even get a call back. Ironically, their voice mail states, "exceptional staff" sure wish I could experience some of the exceptional service. I really enjoy the experience I have had with Dr Simoni and his staff. He is very thorough and thoughtful when dealing with you and very relatable. He always takes time with me to make sure I fully understand options and diagnosis when treating me. I worked in surgery for several years as a medical rep and been around many physicians. I can tell he's very knowledgeable and stays current with the latest medical options and information in his specialty. His office is state of the art with a medical portal that you sign in on with an iPad when you arrive and it shows exactly what your insurance is covering as well as any visits or procedure history with full information on them. As a primary care physician, I've had experience with many GI specialists and hands down, Dr. Simoni is the best. So much so that he has done my colonoscopy, my husband's, and now my daughter's EGD. He is patient, warm, caring, and trustworthy. The experience has been comfortable for each and every one of us. In fact, I chose to have my colonoscopy without undergoing anesthesia (I had a lot to do that day and couldn't afford to be groggy), and it was comfortable enough that we went to a car dealership afterwards with my family to buy a car for my daughter! I will be due for another colonoscopy soon, and I will probably decline to be put under as it was easily tolerable. He is not only gentle, but super knowledgeable. I've referred my close friends to him and he is thorough in the workup, helping to reach diagnosis even in difficult cases. Even if you live far, it's worth the drive, especially since most GI procedures don't require too many visits. I highly highly recommend him! read more

I was suffering from food getting stuck. Dr Simoni did an endoscopy and also discovered I had ulcers in my esophagus and stomach. He put me on medication that healed the ulcers. Then he stretched my gastroesophegial junction and now I have no problem with food getting stuck. He takes the time to answer all of your questions. Well, it seems nothing changed. Staff is as rude, ineffective and incompetent as ever. They mislead my husband about insurance and billing issues and when he tried to cancel his appointment it took 3 days and numerous discourteous emails. I posted this review yesterday and Yelp sent me an email stating that they removed it saying it wasn't my content for some reason. Well, it is, in fact, my content Yelp. I can provide receipts, bills from my insurance, and pictures of the incorrect size feeding tube and my bruised abdomen for proof. Feel free to contact me to verify my identity. Here again is my review. Dr. Simoni was my gastro doctor who placed a feeding tube as I am a cancer survivor and cant eat. All food has to be injected through a feeding tube. The surgery went smoothly. He tightened the button on the feeding tube that he installed to tight which created a skin ulcer that I had to go to the wound center at Los Robles Hosp. for 6 weeks to heal. Once the wound healed I requested to have the one-piece feeding tube removed and replaced with a button type which is much easier to maintain. Dr. Simoni ordered the incorrect size (twice as small as it should have been) which caused me severe pain and I had to have him remove it the very next day. Dr. Simoni did not seem confident in knowing the correct size of the low profile tube to order. Because of that, I contacted UCLA to get a second opinion. Once his office was informed that I was going to UCLA they refused to make future appointments. They also refused to renew my prescription for the formula that I have to inject. My insurance refused to preapprove my next shipment of food because his office refused to renew the prescription and I was left with 3 days supplies. Numerous calls to Dr. Simoni's office requesting an appointment were refused. They said that if I were going to another doctor then Dr. Simoni would no longer treat me. This left me scrambling to find any gastro doctor who could see me and renew my prescription. And because of this, I write this review. I have never written bad reviews for anyone, but I will not let this act pass. Anyone who would cancel your supply of food when you have no options but to get it through a prescription has to be called out. If you are happy with Dr. Simoni then I am glad for you. I cannot recommend him. One last point, my first several visits with Dr. Simoni I was charged a lot per visit. I paid each time dutifully until I finally called Anthem and asked why I had to pay so much. In fact, his office was overcharging me and it took a call from Anthem to his office to get them to correct the error. They had to refund in a check to me $537 that I was overcharged. Dr. Simoni has been the gastro doctor for my wife and I for many years. My wife had debilitating stomach issues and Dr. Simoni diagnosed her with Chron's disease. He has her on a treatment program and she is able to live a normal life. I have seen Dr. Simoni for periodic colonoscopies and am more than satisfied with him. We both highly recommend Dr. Simoni. Absolute thieves, avoid at all costs!!!!! I have never written a review on Yelp, but I was so taken back by the unbelievable experience I had at Advanced Gastroenterology in Thousand Oaks, CA I felt it was my duty to expose them to the public. I was referred to them by my primary care physician. I went in for a "consolation" for a colonoscopy and was told the procedure would cost approx. $785 with anesthesia. Nothing disclosed about the "consolation fee" which turned out to be $800!!!!!! Mind you the doctor did spend 5 minutes with me. At $800 for 5 minutes that breaks down to $160 per minute or $9,600!!!!!!! They never disclosed this fee to me just sent a bill. Complete bait-and-switch. Had I known they were charging this outrageous fee I would have gone elsewhere. Obviously I canceled the appointment and have now scheduled the procedure with a reputable practice. I would highly caution you to look for another practice before you sign up with this sham of an operation. Who knows what they would have charged for lab work, I hate to think of the bill that would have shown up. BEWARE!!!!! read more

I was suffering with IBM and pain. I called this facility and brought my records to them. They called back later in the day stating they would not help me, and I should go back to my surgeon at Ceders. My Surgeon had told me that after care would come from GI Drs. This facility showed no compassion for someone suffering and needing help. I would never recommend this facility to anyone needing help. I have no idea what happened to this office or Dr. Simoni. I first met Dr. Simoni in 2013 and he was great. He was attentive, caring, and spent time actually listening to his patients. I have had a multitude of GI problems for 13 years, and he was willing to take on the task of finding a definitive diagnosis for me. I was so relieved to finally find a doctor that was ready to take on my case. I had done some diagnostic tests and scoping with Dr. Simoni. All of which were somewhat inconclusive. My issue however is that when he changed locations, he changed most of his staff, and how his office is run. I had referred a friend to see Dr. Simoni for management of Crohn's Disease. She was told to fax over her medical records, and the doctor would decide if he wanted to see her or not. I have never known a medical office to conduct business that way. Either you're accepting new patients, or you are not. What I was most appalled at is that I received a letter a few weeks ago discharging me as a patient. Apparently I'm non-compliant because I had stated to Dr. Simoni the lower bowel xray series he ordered, and the capsule study would cost more than $3k out of pocket because my insurance did not cover the tests. I also had to become a cash patient because Dr. Simoni no longer accepts my PPO insurance either. I was hoping to stay with my current regimen until I was able to pay for the tests.
