Best there is in hs field in my opinion and best bedside manner! Dr Desai has been my gastro enterologist for several years. He handled various digestive issues as well as preventative care such as endoscopies and colonoscopy. He does a lot of cancer work also - including liver cancer surgeries. NP decided on my first visit that I couldn't afford the test I was recommended to obtain by another doctor and thus refused to order it. She also refused to order the inflammatory markers I requested on my lab work, again, recommended by another doctor! She's truly gifted with a crystal ball that informs her of my financial status! Financial gatekeeping. Despicable. Went to another local gastro and he agreed I needed exactly what I had asked for and had no hesitation ordering the test and labs. Very poor front desk. All they care about is insurance. I went to appointment and they did not want to bill to insurance the $85 copay. I had just paid that a day before to another specialist. Irresponsible office. I brought polyps images to the office and office refuse to take it as record and waste my free preventative colonoscopy to find nothing. Sometimes people says every three-five years is too long to do preventative exam, that's not 100% accurate. If your doctor miss a big polyps at your cost your 3-5 year exam become 6-10 year to find them. So be careful! read more

Dr Desai left his office in charge of a nurse practitioner while he went on his vacation. I called the office on 12-2-2025 requesting a specific test. Since one week later I got no answer I called again and got an appointment. Again, I explained that I believe it would be better to have the test done first. It only makes sense but NO that nurse asked me to come in. So I did, and the nurse suggested I should have a colonoscopy! I told her again that a test would be a better 1st step. Huffing and puffing she gave the test order. Well, sure enough she did not request the correct test even though I was very specific about what were my symptoms! It took 2 additional tests before, I still hope, I was given the correct test request. Dr. Kumar returned from his vacation and I was told by the inadequate staff that the test results are in but the doctor was too busy to check it! I've been waiting for 5 weeks for that basic test! In my opinion this office is a disgrace to the medical profession. read more

My primary care physician gave me an FIT test which resulted in a positive reading for occult blood in the stool. He instructed me to follow up with a gastroenterologist to find the cause. I called Dr. Desai's office and scheduled an appointment to see him. When I arrived I was informed that he was at the hospital and I would be seeing a nurse practitioner. She was unable to do anything for me. The office knew this when I was scheduling but never told me. Now I have to find another doctor for a consult when there is a potential for serious conditions. I thought I already left a review here. Dr Desai is a miracle worker! I was 26 when I saw him, with unexplainable horrible GI symptoms that I won't go into detail about. He did my colonoscopy with biopsy and diagnosed me with a lymphocytic colitis. The treatment plan was simple and my symptoms disappeared! Great Service Last week I had a colonoscopy which went well. I had not one in 10 years and I recall it was a kind of rough experience. But to my relief I found that they have greatly improved on getting one these days. As opposed to having to put together my own colonoscopy preparation they now have a premix which is easy to follow and works well. Things at the surgery center went very smooth and I was taken in exactly at the scheduled time. The results we posted on my patient page from their website within 48 hours. I would steer clear of this doctor at all costs. He is very pompous and his bedside manor leaves a lot to be desired. I was to have a colonoscopy. His staff gave me the instructions for a different prep than he prescribed. I believe he overdosed me with laxatives. He was very dismissive when I tried to tell him what problems I was having. He ordered an ultrasound but did not have even the common courtesy to call me himself to give me the results. A girl in his office called to say it was "normal or negative." Whatever that means. I told her I was still having pain. She is not a medical professional so she could offer no explanation. I procured a DVD of the ultrasound and I'm taking it to a different doctor. I had almost the same experience with him and his staff as the others who posted on here. My advice is go elsewhere. read more

Dr. Kumar Desai is one of 5 doctors in the state that perform a special biopsy via endoscopy. I had stomach issues for months and finally went to Los Robles Hospital Emergency Room on 6/7/23 and during all of the testing while at ER, an incidental finding of a liver mass was found. I had a CT Scan and later on an MRI and a special ultrasound by the actual radiologist, Dr. Armantia at Los Robles Hospital who decided the liver mass was too close to my heart and too risky to do a traditional biopsy through my stomach with a long needle, but instead needed a special biopsy via endoscopy. Dr. Desai saw my scans and my abnormal liver cancer blood marker was elevated so he fit me in as he was booked for 4 months out. He didn't guarantee he could do the biopsy but with his skill and experience was able to get the biopsy done for me. I owe so much to Dr. Desai and his wonderful, personable and professional staff made me feel comfortable and well cared for. I can't recommend Dr. Kumar Desai enough. Thanks to him and my benign diagnosis, I was able to regain my sanity and life and move forward from this extremely scary situation. Thank you, Dr. Desai for your care and attention! read more

Had been waiting a while for this appointment, and was sorely disappointed. He did not offer any diagnosis or diagnostic tests that might have helped us get some answers. We left feeling like he was some what annoyed with our situation. He was un- empathetic and un-interested and pretty much offered no help. Had the worst experience I have had in the past 3 years of dealing with different doctors due to my husband's cancer diagnosis. This Doctor has no knowledge, nor any passion for what he does and noooo bedside manner. As soon as he saw us in the hospital room, he took all the responsibility off himself and told my husband and I that there is nothing that could be done for him Even if there is nothing else to do, He should have been a little more responsible and more companionate. I have been going to DR,Desai for about 12 years and never had any issues with him or his staff. DR.Desai is always on time and a pleasure to have him for my Doctor because he tells me what's wrong with me and takes good care of me and my problem. Once he was on his way to his son's soccer game and I went to his office because my feeding tube broke. DR. Desai put in a new feeding tube and got to his son's soccer game late. It's a shame when stars are deducted because a otherwise good Physician is in such a hurry, that he writes a order for a CT, without the necessary information, such as diagnosis and of which area of the body that needs the imagery. Basically, he sent my husband home with a invalid order. Immediately, I noticed the missing information, calling at 3:15 last Thursday. I asked if I would get a return call that day, which I was assured that I would be. Fine, probably just waiting to catch the MD when he steps out of a room, plenty of time to call and book the CT. Wishful thinking. I did not receive a return call, Not that day, which was Thursday, not Friday....not Monday, nor Tuesday, even on Wednesday, one day short of a week. Each day, I would leave a message, not once speaking with the office staff, ...that is until today. I called from my cell phone, that when receiving a call from states my name. The Office phone was answered, not one word was said, just instantly put on hold. Whoa, did she really do that? Was it because she saw my name? Hmmm..So, while listening to the on hold music coming from my cell phone, I decided to call the office from my home phone, which coincidentally does not display my name, but rather "unknown caller". It was picked up on the first ring, with a standard, "Thank you for calling blah blah blah!" Unflippin' believable! I was none to happy, for the game the staff was playing, but that was secondary to the lack of follow through for my husband's CT. The staff acted as if this was the first she heard of the situation, though she was whom I spoke to originally. She said, that fax was sent days ago to Rolling Oaks,, and she had the confirmation of it. I have been in contact with Rolling Oaks, since this began in the hopes that the office would send them a CT order. They didn't have it, because it wasn't sent. Rolling Oaks, each day checked for the order. I asked if the office could re fax the order to RO. She said she would. I allowed a Grace period of 2 hours for the office to resend the fax to RO, before I called to verify if it was received. It had not been. That's when, Rolling Oaks, stepped in. That's beyond great customer service! They called several times, each of the lines to the office. Finally, and only because Ellen from RO cared and was persistent, a complete and valid CT order was received. Absolutely, zero effort on the part of Desai, nor his staff. It's unsettling to think how this appointment was made because my husband was experiencing bouts of extreme pain, that came and went, reoccurrences that we had no explanation for, and sought medical professionals for help. They knew of the pain my husband endured, and it was grossly obvious the lack of concern by all of which were involved. Explain how a Doctor Can't take one extra minute to fill in the necessary information on a order? A very important CT. A patient left with nothing more than a useless piece of paper..then insult to injury..not immediately correcting a inadequate CT order, by the Physician and staff is absolutely shameful. It was unnecessary stress and waste of my time. I have not more to say besides, if your looking for expertise, efficiency, and compassion... you will find it at Rolling Oaks. read more

He waited until ONE DAY before my scheduled appointment with him to cancel it which was ONE FULL WEEK he let me wait. He said he didn't think he was qualified to perform the procedure I needed done. I received an approval from the VA to have him perform my procedure because he is located close to me & the VA verified him as being a doctor who is qualified to perform my needed procedure. Once I set up my appointment with him I canceled my appointment with the VA hospital. Since he waited ONE FULL WEEK to cancel I had to wait for a new VA appointment which was almost 3 weeks later. I have to pay to stay at the nursing home for the days this delayed me! If he had canceled immediately by reading my case the same day my appointment was set up I could have kept my VA appointment & avoided the extra nursing facility cost. He sat on it for a FULL WEEK instead of reading my case & canceling the same day my appointment was set up with him. He is a JERK!! Don't EVER rely on him!!!! read more
