This is long overdue. Not sure if yelp was around in 2003. Dr George wasn't at his new location which BTW sits on an old gasoline lot. His office was at another location. Regardless I remember getting my first colonoscopy at a health south facility. Remember them, I do, from the moment of laying down and having to plead with them to give me anesthesia as they were not sure of the insurance I had would pay for it, thankfully they must have caved, as I don't remember the procedure. Which was the only thing I can be thankful that happened that fateful day. No, when I came to Dr. George came by, didn't stop and dropped off a color photo of a tumor in my colon. I remember asking "what do I do?" He responded on his way to his next procedure "you go to a general surgeon". This was my last interaction/only interaction with Dr. George. Then the nurse informed me that I would likely be wearing a "colostomy bag" going forward. This is 100% how it happened and I was so angry. I was 30 years old and coincidentally this happened on my daughter's 1st birthday. The lack of bedside manner by this POS was mind blowing. I did get my Colon resection by a stud Colon rectal surgeon and wonderful chemo care from a great Oncologist. I'm 54 now and have had dozens of clear colonoscopies and never ever have had this type of treatment. I have had other procedures as well and some that required hospital stays, anesthesia, you name it I've been very fortunate for the care that I've been given. But I'll never forget how pompous and uncaring George was, and I really would encourage you to go to Dr. Daneshagar, who is a lovely man with a local practice. read more

Absolutely disgusting office staff. From front desk to office manager nothing but arrogant attitude. Made appointment, waited a couple of weeks for appointment only to learn upon arrival they cancelled the appointment due to "incomplete"forms. I had a screen shot of the confirmation that the forms they sent were completed. They claimed that it was not those forms but additional forms.. No apology from them, arrogant didregard for my time, and the fact that they compromised my health by prolonging a much needed check up. I reported to referring physician, at his urging attempted yet again to provide the "missing" data and reschedule the appointment. Again, met with unhelpful and arrogant staff who could not clarify what alleged forms had yet to be completed prior to appointment or they would cancel without further notice. Requested to speak with office manager. Office manager did finally figure out which "forms" they cancelled the appointment over, instead of a humble apologetic attitude, I was met with an arrogant disregard for my experience with them. Despite the fact that I was working very hard to get to the bottom Of which forms they required, and had already been inconvenienced and any diagnosis prolonged at the expense of my health, this office manager continued to reprimand and arrogantly repeat that if I did not Complete the forms they would cancel the appointment again without any further notice! It was so unpleasant I can only imagine what moving forward with this physician's office would have entailed and chose to see a different physician. Cannot comment on the competence of the physician. Good gastro's are plentiful in the LA area I strongly do not recommend this office. read more

I cannot recommend A George. He consulted as a specialist at the hospital for a patient with worsening gastrointestinal issues. He did not take action to ensure that all options for care and full recovery were provided. Prior to being admitted to the hospital, my husband was a healthy 56 year man with no other health issues. I just don't know where to begin!!!! 1st office visit was lickety split. He never looked at me. Had his face in the computer the whole time. Abdominal exam was cursory at best then out the door with an order for an EGD, which is part of his regime. EGD went well with one of the best Anesthesiologist ever. Yet I felt like a calf in a cattle herd. Line 'm' up. Then once awake, he came to say he had found a few issues with inflammation then he split faster than a speeding bullet. I had to shout to get him back to ask if there is a treatment. Annoyed, he told the nurse to order Prilosec. Got my discharge papers stating that I was to return to office PRN. NO follow up visit to discuss pathology or if Prilosec was the proper med. I called the office 4 weeks later to see if they got the Pathology report and the guy who answered said, "yes, just now". It doesn't take 4 weeks to get a pathology report. I then called back to get an appointment 5 times with no response. I finally went to the office to pick up the report from a completely uninterested young man whose mouth was full of food. The other 3 women in the office were busy chatting among themselves. And when I read the pathology report I was appalled . Then I read the original office notes and half the information I presented to him was missing. It seemed as though he just focused on medical necessity for an EGD, completely ignoring abdominal pain. . Also , The doctor had not even read the report yet. It was not initialed as per protocol. And the report indicated that I had several areas of inflammation with metaplasia. Those cells are considered pre cancerous. Glaringly enough was the fact that the cells were not tested for H. Pylori or infection. I doubt Prilosec is the treatment, nor is the diet he prescribed...baby food, no fruit or vegetables, unless pureed. blah blah blah. I still have the same symptoms I presented 2 months ago and getting worse. Truly from my experience he does not care if you need followup treatment ;he just wants to do EGD's and Colonoscopies. read more

Dr Alister George is great if you have "conventional stomach issues" that are resolved with pills. Anything more complex - forget about it. He will do the EGD in his very busy digestive center downstairs (where no one wears a mask during flu/covid season), then tell you if PPIs don't work, sleep sitting up and don't eat after 6pm. He has no resources or referrals to surgeons and cannot recommend anything beyond this marginal advice. Use at your own risk. read more

Update on my review. Found out from a DIFFERENT physician that I have Crohns and am celiac....but remember I thought I was too young to have any issues?!! Too young for a colonoscopy or endoscopy when cancer runs on both sides of my family They found ulcers all throughout my small bowel and it was only found through these tests. The office scheduling staff is terrible! I'm still waiting for them to call me back to schedule my colonoscopy. It was been at least 6 weeks and 4-5 calls to them and nothing! Needless to say he is not exactly the type of doctor everyone is wanting to see. This was not my first visit with him. My experience has always been a good one. His office staff for the office visit are extremely polite. The young lady, Ally who explained and scheduled procedure did a wonderful job of making me not quite as nervous as I had been. Dr. George took more time speaking to me, asking questions, giving me options. He did not appear to be on a time schedule like most doctor's offices. With having moved to Camarillo I had seriously thought about changing doctors and going to someone local but am so glad that I stayed with Dr. George. read more

I am updating my review with the hopes it will help potential patients STAY CLEAR of this doctor. My daughter a healthy, division 1 college athlete and recent college grad was seen by the doctor after several ER visits for a variety of GI issues. In under 10 minutes, with no tests and no conversation, Dr. George "diagnosed" her with several conditions that "can be called many different things". The list included pancreatitis, IBS, constipation, hemorrhoids, ruptured hemorrhoids....to name a few. She was told, be "just be happy you don't have cancer" , stop going to the ER, do not eat any foods with fat in it, assuming she drinks- he told her to stop drinking so much alcohol. Also, assuming she used drugs, he told her to stop that too. In addition to giving up all of the above, she was prescribed "enzymes" to take with each meal and that should help her, but basically if she keeps making "bad" choices she will have GI issues for her entire life. Literally the WORST experience with a doctor we have ever had. Based on the reviews (that I did not read until after) he has been doing the same thing to for years to most of his patients. Save you mental health, time ad money and literally go see ANYONE ELSE. read more

The office, medical staff are very efficient and kind. I have used Dr. George a couple of times. Each time with no issues.

Despite trying, I have not met Dr. George. I made an appointment in August for a colonoscopy consultation in October. I arrived 15 minutes early on the day of my appointment with all the requested background information and identifications. His office required my co-pay up front for which they ran my credit card. I was then abandoned in one of his waiting rooms for about 45 minutes. Conversations with his support staff went something like this: Me: "My appointment was for 10:30 am, not noon." Staff person: "sorry" Me: Can you tell me what's going on? Staff person: "sorry" Me: "I can't be here that long. Can you reschedule my appointment?" Staff person: "sorry" Me: "I have to leave. Would you please reverse the charge on my credit card?" Staff person: "I need to get the Manager" Manger enters and sits down on the computer trying to do something. No comment after about 5 minutes. Me: "I have to go. I will just dispute the charge with my credit card company" Manager: "That's Good" Kudos to Dr. George for building a successful practice despite employing a staff that seems uncaring, uninformed, and disrespectful to patients (customers). Most businesses wish they had that luxury. read more

I have been visiting Dr George for 7 years. Dr George is my kind of doctor. He listens to you and I never feel rushed during his visits. He is professional and most important an expert in his field. Our household has had 3 colonoscopy procedures. His center for the procedure is top notch! The staff during this procedure makes you feel secure and very comfortable. The nursing staff is simply amazing! I know a colonoscopy procedure for the first time can be scary. Trust me the worst part is the prep leading up to the main event. Dr. George was the worst doctor I have ever been to. He never cared about getting to the root of my symptoms, pain and couldn't even help me figure out where to get tested for SIBO, which I ended up having, after nearly 4 years of symptoms! He was always rushing me, diminishing my pain and telling me I just needed to change my mindset while giving me NO DIRECTION or game plan. He should not be caring for patients. He told me after my endoscopy (while coming out of anesthesia) that I "probably" had chronic pancreatitis based on my pain, but none of my testing was consistent with this, he couldn't confirm it and then put me on a low fat diet with no explanation and told me to follow it and come back "in a few months" whether I was feeling better or not. The new doctor was dumbfounded that he would guess at such an off-base diagnosis! He is terrible. I have never written a review like this in my life. read more

It was a long time ago and I'm sure he has zero recollection of me, but this doctor kept my initial consultation when I was extremely ill and made me come to his office only to tell me that my case was too complex and he couldn't see me. Basically he got to charge me for an office visit when I should have just been told to cancel my appointment and look elsewhere. Zero compassion or concern for me and no referrals were given. Billed AGAIN, a year later... Dr. George is nice enough. His bedside manner is fine, and the staff was pleasant at the time of the procedure, but their billing practices are unacceptable. I was billed shortly after my procedure in March of 2017, then billed AGAIN a year later for an amount they apologized for neglecting to charge me. I have been seeing Dr. George for colonoscopies for 25 years. He interviewed me for my most recent one and advised that I also needed an endoscopy due to some symptoms that I described. I had both procedures a week apart and the recommendation to have the endoscopy was right on. Dr. George identified both the problems and the solutions, which I am implementing now. These procedures are challenging enough for some people. The attending nurses in the procedure and post-op rooms are terrific, making one comfortable before and after. read more

I was referred to Dr. George due to elevated liver enzymes and gall stones. Dr. George prescribed several procedures to try to figure out if I needed gall bladder surgery. After all test came back negative I asked him if I should repeat blood work to see if liver enzymes had stabilized. He asked me if I drink a lot. When I told him I have never been a drinker he said that's what heavy drinkers always say. When I again said that I don't drink he said he was just making a joke-not funny to me. I will never go back to him and suggest you do the same. read more

I highly recommend Dr. George and his staff. I had my third colonoscopy with him today and it was easy and as pleasant as it could be. He took his time at the intake last week and was caring and thorough in his evaluation. The prep was not too uncomfortable and I had no discomfort after the procedure. The nurses and office staff are as warm, caring and competent as this doctor and it's a pleasure to be at his surgical center rather than a hospital or Kaiser where I had an absolutely traumatic experience years ago. He accepts Medicare and most insurance and if you need a procedure or want to check with an experienced GI doctor, he's simply the best. read more

Both my wife & I have had imaging procedures from Dr. George. We performed due diligence comparing costs. In both cases, Dr. George's office low-balled the cost of anesthesiology. In both cases Los Robles Hospital and Conejo Los Robles Anesthesiology Medical Group incorrectly coded the submission to our insurance. In my case, the coding was corrected. In my wife's case, it never was. Despite assurances that CLRAMG or Dr. George's office would absorb this $1,000, we continued to get billed. Office support at both businesses evaporated with time, so, to protect our credit rating, we paid it. I got sick in April, vomiting to the point of dehydration multiple times a week, losing weight drastically and rapidly. This was the 4th doctor I had come to see in hopes of getting some answers, he ordered a colonoscopy and endoscopy which were performed in June. Upon time to review my results I came to the office in time for my appointment where I was made to wait for over an hour to see the doctor WITH AN APPOINTMENT. Sitting down with the doctor finally he seemed to just be looking at the test results for the very first time and told me everything came back perfect and the biopsies were negative. This is devastating to hear considering the amount of money I, and independently financial 22 year old, spent trusting him to get answers with this test. The doctor had the nerve to take a guess at a medication that may or may not help me and my problem, he told me it was to help my stomach retain salts? Which means nothing to me after being told that everything was perfectly fine. Well this idiot had the NERVE to prescribe me something that was going to cost me $600 out of pocket with my insurance. So now I know my doctor has sold his soul to big Pharma to gouge his patients. After getting me nowhere, I took my results from Patel to my GP and not only did the test results state very clearly that there were multiple issues but there were even pictures!!!! Patel didn't even bother looking at what was right in front of him!!! 5 hiatal hernias in my esophagus, FIVE and there were damn pictures! This whole time I shouldnt have been eating chocolate, caffeine, orange juice....all things that irritate hernias and Patel failed to inform me of anything. Oh wait I forgot the best part, the doctor falsified documents! The 2 days before the procedures I was calling the doctor at home telling him I couldn't keep down my clear liquid diet or any of the 3 laxatives he had me try, then the day of the procedure I was informed my stomach had to be vacuumed because there was still undigested liquids in there (which there should not have been) however, Patel reports at home and pre procedure preparation went great and smooth and as planned. This is malpractice and I will be filing a complaint, maybe a lawsuit, I haven't decided yet. You have no clue how to run a practice and should be shut down. P.S. Requested copies of the tests go out to all of my other doctors and not a single one received them until the 4th time I asked and had to threaten your front desk woman who came up with an excuse that other people in your office don't do their job either! My review is directed to anyone who has CalPers Blue Cross insurance. I had a first colonoscopy with Dr. George and everything was fine. The second time, the front desk person said there had been some changes in insurance coverage but that we would figure it out. I had my initial consult and scheduled the procedure for 6 weeks later. 3 days before the procedure, I got a call from the office saying that I would need to pay for the facility....he is a Blue Cross doctor, but his facility is not. I have two medical insurances and had met my deductible, so I should not have to pay anything. The office woman said it was unfortunate that I had two insurances! What? Seriously? The lesson here is not to waste time having a consult and preparing for a procedure until the office personnel has checked out the insurance situation. If they say they will figure it out, don't believe it! read more

Do not trust what this doctor tells you. I went with my wife for a consultation and Dr. George told us that my wife could not have an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy on the same day. We asked why, and he told us that the insurance companies changed their rules and wont pay if the procedures are done on the same day. This made no sense to us. Dr. George said that the insurance companies do this to save money because some patients will not show up for the second procedure if it is on a different day. This sounded totally contrary to the idea of preventative medicine. When I got home I called Medicare and Anthem and was told by both insurers that what Dr. George told us was completely incorrect. The insurance companies much prefer to have both procedures done at the same time in order to avoid double billing and to avoid having patients have to undergo anesthesia twice. Dr. George, in our opinion, gave us this bad information so that he could bill the insurance companies twice for his services , the use of a facility, the anesthesiologist, and the lab work. Once I found this out, I cancelled my wife's appointments and will find another doctor. I believe that Dr. George cares more about making money than the welfare of his patients and his actions cause me to question his ethics. Quite honestly I would not trust this doctor to perform a colonoscopy on my cat. read more

Dr. George even went out of his way to order two complete blood panels for me that had absolutely nothing to do with my procedures. Dr. George was just concerned about my general health. Although his office staff and Dr. George himself were great - they did not inform me that the anesthesiologist they used for my endoscopy / colonoscopy was out of my network. I paid $300 for my procedure and now owe $1500 for the anesthesia portion. My procedure was performed at his facility and everyone else involved was in network, and I was never informed. Per recent legislation in CA, it is their duty to inform me if their anesthesiologist is out of network. I need to have this procedure annually and will be using another doctor that uses an innetwork anesthesiologist and informs me of the costs beforehand. :( read more
