My husband was referred to ASI for his first skin check as he is a golfer and light skinned. He was referred on a Monday and was seen by Friday. They were prompt, courteous and on time for his appointment. Appointment at 3 and he was out my 3:19 pm. Only reason I am only giving 4 stars is that they do not accept debit or credit cards plus the magazine they had as reading material was 4 years old. So far it has not been a good experience. The Dr. said she was going to do a skin biopsy and I assumed it would be a punch biopsy. No. she cut into my scalp in two places one near my face, this means there will be a visible scar. There are now two long stitches hanging off my head which makes me wonder why didn't she use the dissolveable kind. I have to go back in two weeks to have them removed??? Will that cause more pain and leave open skin open to infection? I am very angry and disappointed. Cutting edge my foot!!! read more

Award winners for the worst ran Dermatologist in Turlock. They have not contacted me for well over a year and sent me to collections shortly after they sent me a bill. I was in communication with them after I received the bill (which was for a visit in 2022, it is now 2024) and after I wrote the check, they sent me to collections... They also were charging cash at the front desk before each visit which I found very odd. I have visited the location probably 5 times in the past year or so because no one would return a call. Seems they have been closed for a long time now, but claim to have been still practicing last year. This is all very odd and should be looked in to. read more

Advanced Skin Institute used to be a great place..... After changes in medical staff and the administrative team, I've had nothing but issues with this place. Last year I tried to cancelled an appointment over the phone. The appointment did not get cancelled and they charged me a $75 fee. I emailed their office and explained the situation; thankfully they voided the fee and I has happy--annoyed that I had to go through the trouble, but happy to not pay. Now, I got an email from them in January 2024 that I had an overdue balance of $75 from the same issue about the cancelled appointment????? I already dealt with this last year!!!! Now they're saying I still owe the money and the person that helped me void the fees last time did not have the authority to do so. It sounds like they schedule your appointments but don't bother to show up for you when the appointment has come. Then, they are impossible to get on the phone and then charge YOU for not speaking with anyone to cancel an appointment. Regardless, nothing medical is happening, they are not holding themselves responsible for wasting patient time, and they even charge the patient for not communicating scheduling issues in advance. I work at. A doctors office and have been trying to call all week to send a referral, was on hold 20 minutes with automated recording several times. Per their voicemail they charge $75 for appointments not canceled in 24 hours. I feel bad for the patients trying to call when they don't answer. This office doesn't seem to be in business, it should be updated on Google and yelp. If they ARE in business they have horrible service for other clinics and their own patients. This place has always had a questionable past regarding billing, but the service seem pretty good with respect to treatment. My last appointment was cancelled by the office earlier this year due to a family emergency. I never received a call back to reschedule the appointment but had already decided to seek another provider. About a month ago, I logged into my email and found a statement for service in Jan. 2023 that they claim I was sent a copy of in Jan. 2024. There were additional charges, including a collections charge added to the original balance. I would expect a business like this to manage billing via USPS. I paid the original charge via check and slid it under their door as instructed in and email exchange. There was a note still posted on the door at that time stating that the business was temporarily closed due to a family tragedy. read more

This provider is a complete sham . If it was possible to provide a -5 star rating I would. I was scheduled for a treatment on January 4th to freeze some precancerous growths and undergo a Blue Light Treatment . This appointment was confirmed during my initial medical consultation on 11/17/2023 . When I called just too confirm the appointment for the 4 th there was no answer, the voicemail was full there was no response to texts or emails. " SUPPOSEDLY " there was a medical emergency and there has been no response since . They don't respond to my inquiries or inquiries from my insurance company. They have not sent any formal bills just text messages about my initial office visit charge . Which I was informed at the time there was no payment due as I was leaving. I have now been turned over to an out-of - state collection agency. Furthermore due to there complete lack of professionalism and medical incompetence. It took me 4 months too consult another Dermatologist and receive treatment. However, now it had progressed too a squamous cell growth that needed to be removed by a Mohs procedure. I now have a 1"x 2" scar that should have never happened. At the present time I am consulting with a Medical Malpractice Attorney about filing suit against this SHAM organization. read more

I will try to be fair with my review. My reason for one star: 1) This practice does not take credit cards or debit cards. Only cash or checks. I find this to be suspicious at best. Why would you not take credit cards? They told me "it's too much of a hassle". Makes one wonder if they lost their credit card privileges? 2)The office is extremely mismanaged. The first appointment went fine, except that the office requires you to arrive 30 min prior to your appointment, even though all my paperwork was submitted prior to my first app. I had biopsies done on two areas. My follow up appointment was one month later, which seems like a very looong time to have a follow up app for results from biopsies. For my follow up app, I arrived 15 min prior to my app time as required. I waited over an hour to see the p.a. Edward. I understand delays, but I noticed many patients arriving to the office and checking in after me and they were seen sooner than me. I questioned the front desk staff about this and they told me " Edward is in surgery. You will see him when he is finished". I asked why I wasn't notified this before my check in and before my app date. I must have stumped them because they had no answer for me. After waiting for over an hour, Edward was available to see me. Regarding the biopsies, he told me I had Basel cell carcinoma and needed surgery. Not so fast. I always seek a second opinion when advised of surgery and I am so happy I did. I chose Golden State Dermatology. I saw Dr Jones last week who will perform the Basel call carcinoma surgery. If you value your time and are looking for a top notch dermatologist, do not waste your time at Advanced Skin Institute. While the actual care rendered at this facility seems to be above average, the office is very mismanaged. They have a real issue with scheduling appointments, as I have read below several patients have came for appointments multiple times only to find the doors locked and the office closed. My wife had an appointment and they refused to see her when she arrived because they couldn't find the appointment in their "system". Because of which I canceled my follow up appointment and had them transfer my records to Modesto Skin Care on McHenry in Modesto. Several years ago, I had Mohs surgery at this place performed by an expert who came up from the L.A.area. He brought along a plastic surgeon & they both did an excellent job. Now, no one is available for such a surgery. They referred me to Stanford. They were to send the results obtained two biopsies. I arrived at the facility to discover that they had only sent one. Do not waste your valuable time waiting to see a doctor. Twice we had appointments and showed up to a locked up office. Both times calling only to get an answering machine that was full and not excepting messages. We also had medication as prescribed by the physician that were not covered by our insurance. Our insurance recommended several generic options, but the doctor would not prescribe them leaving my daughter to continue having skin problems. I agree with all the other reviews regarding staff and care. Customer service is not this office's strong suit - I received so many calls to change my appointment before I actually got a voicemail, I called back the same day and was placed on hold, only to be told the lady that called me was not available. Played a few more rounds of phone tag. They wanted me to come in at an earlier appointment on Christmas Eve, which is understandable but this comes within a couple of hours after the appointment was initially made. At the appointment I notice a lady complaining about an error with a copay. I did not pay attention to the details but I did notice the office manager was quick to blame workers that were no longer employed and simply repeated that it was not her fault without actually fully listening to what the lady had to say. They also had issues with my insurance cards as the lady forgot where they were saved and was blaming everyone for moving her folder. She had to take them a second time to scan them. You could hear them discussing this the entire time amongst one another throwing the blame instead of working collaboratively. Also, you can hear a LOT from the office I heard my name and birthdate while in the waiting room and in a patient room. I saw dr Johnson. Rudest doctor ever. He wanted to see my entire skin for eczema but I was wearing leggings and could not roll them up to show him my legs so I asked if there was a gown. He left the room angry and guess what? Never came back. The MA stated he is grumpy and proceeded to get me a gown. More then 30+ min passed and the MA had checked up on me 2-3 times with no Dr Johnson. Eventually she came with a PA who quickly went on to prescribe me an ointment and sent me off. MA had me wait in line to schedule another appointment only after waiting so they tell me I do not need a follow up appointment. My pharmacy called me reporting they have called the office multiple times as the office never stated the frequency or dosage of the medication. Pharmacy asked me if I can try to reach them too. Another game of phone tag. I received my prescription a good two weeks afterwards because of this. Do not recommend at all. read more

I'm 51yrs old and finally found a doctor that is willing to help me get optimal and not just within range. I greatly appreciate his ethics and wish I would have found him a lot sooner. Very disappointed in the way the staff and doctor treated my elderly (82 years old) father. I did not know he was having this procedure done (MOHS surgery), until I got a call from my mother that he had been gone for five hours and she was worried. I was at work, so I called the dr office and asked for someone to check on him, and to please give him some water. I informed her that he would not get it himself, and would probably say he was fine, and to please just hand him some water without asking him if he needed it. I called back a half hour later to check, and she said " Oh he said he was fine" No understanding of how to care for elderly people. I left work as fast as I could. When I got there to pick him up, he was laying on the table, shaking all over from cold and pain. The doctor was putting stitches his face, after the topical anesthetic had worn off. Avoid this office if you can. My husband received care here in May of 2019 and in March of this year we received a bill from the office. Other than it taking almost one literal calendar year to receive a bill, the bill that we received gives the number to billing agency that stated they aren't taking payments for this office anymore. Okay, so I attempted to reach out directly to the office leaving a message regarding billing with no response. Just received a different bill today with yet another number to call to pay the bill that does not work. Two months after my appointment my insurance had not received the charges. Advanced Skin Institute sent the claim to the wrong address twice. When I talked to the office mgr she told me they would send the claim that day and they didn't send it for another few days when i called back to make sure it was in process. My insurance after 2 weeks says they still don't have it. My insurance called the office and they(provider) said they "thought" they sent it. Nobody knows what the heck is taking so looking. I understand there are negative reviews about this office, but this won't be one of them. I had my first office visit with Dr. Hantash in May. What was to be a routine mole check became a diagnosis of another skin disorder that had never been solved by my PCP or several other dermatologists. I have had 2 visits since May and find Doctor and his staff to be caring and professional. My previous dermatologists only looked at my moles, hardly addressed me as a person, removed a few iffy spots and sent me on my way. Dr. Hantash took the time to question my medical history in a very caring, thorough and thoughtful way. He has helped with pharmacy and insurance conflicts to make sure I'm getting the meds I need. They are a "puppy mill" for patients. Doctors are always changing. I take a powerful drug for Psoriatic Arthritis. They changed my medication then forgot what I was taking. Would not give the second shot because I wouldn't sign a consent to give my medical information to 3rd parties when it states that "refusal to sign will not affect treatment ". Office Manager was unaware of that clause. I asked to see the Doctor and I was told left within 5 minutes of just speaking to him. I have been double billed as well as my insurance. I had to take the cancelled check and the bill to the office multiple times to get it cleared. I have had multiple Doctors as I was a case study for Psa. All have been very professional. This group has called in less than 24 hours and cancelled appointments made 90 days in advance 3x over 2 1/2 years. Very unprofessional. If you go - I would tell you not - watch how they charge you & your insurance carrier. read more

I am not surprised this office is being investigated by the FBI. My previous review says it all. Unorganized, fraudulent billing and scheduling is subpar. I have recommended 3 friends against this office 1 did not listen and had a bad experience. I don't like to be that person who says "I told you so" so I didn't after hearing of her experience, she admitted to me that she should have listened and saved herself the terrible experiences and waste of time. Was seen March 2018 for Seborrheic Keratosis and options on removal. Was scheduled with a PA which I had no problem with however she said she needed to do a biopsy to see exactly what type they were. Told me to come back in 3 weeks, left the office feeling annoyed that she didn't even go into detail of possible options and also annoyed at how long I had to wait. Made my f/u with a different PA because this one was out of the office. During my f/u the PA walks in and says "you're here for test results?" I proceeded to tell her what I really wanted was to know how to remove the warts or SKs on my face. She said that nothing could remove them except maybe laser but that it wasn't covered by insurance. I asked if there was an ointment or cream so she then recommended I try Tretinoin. Basically the whole 5 min appt was me digging for information because unless I asked, she wasn't saying anything. She walked out, I spoke a little to her nurse about price on laser and said I'd have to think about it since they charged $300 for 10 minutes. I left feeling hopeless and very annoyed at their level of care and customer service. It is also very expensive as I ended up paying out of pocket even though I have insurance for the consult and biopsy that I never asked for $500+ Fast forward a year later I actually considered going back but after reading the reviews I will not be going back to them. I ended up scheduling with a different dermatologist that I saw and didn't suggest doing a biopsy and went straight into detail on treatment options. read more

I've always had good experience with this Dr. From what I gather they where having insurance pay for acne procedures so his customers didn't have to pay as much out of pocket. In my opinion insurance should cover these things because acne can be painful and lower quality of life. Seems he was just trying to help people but I don't know all the details. read more

Many prior problems over long period of time getting in touch with office personnel by phone. Also, I question why Dr. Hantash was not willing to biopsy a second site during one of my visits-resulting in delay of treatment. Most recent problem: During week ending June 2, 2017: had MOHS surgery Tuesday & doctor said he was prescribing one week of antibiotics-especially due to prior history of infections. Two trips to pharmacy and no prescription. Tried calling; and as usual, unable to reach live person. Left phone message, but no response. Sent email before office closed; but no response. On Wednesday they finally got around to faxing prescription. Went to pharmacy and found they only prescribed four capsules-enough for two days. Tried calling again, but unable to reach anyone. Left phone message. No response. Sent another email, but no response by end of day Wednesday. Tried again Thursday. Still no response. Finally got prescription on Friday. In fairness to Dr. Hantash, and a large number of professional and obviously caring staff working at Advanced Skin Institutes, I should point out that Dr. Hantash did take the time to discuss with me the issues that I raised. He was able to articulate some plausible reasons for the problems I and many others have experienced in getting through on their phone system. He also convinced me that is trying hard to overcome those issues. I also believe that we have a very real shortage of dermatologists in our area-especially those offering the option of MOHS treatment. So despite some problems I've experienced with this one, I hope it continues to offer its services while working on issues it is having. read more

My Husband had fought MRSA for many years and could never be cured of it. When our regular family doctor recommended a dermatologist we rolled our eyes just knowing this was just going to be more of the same dead ends. He saw Dr. Hantash and started treatment which lasted almost a couple years but he was FINALLY rid of it. His case was very difficult and without Dr. Hantash I just don't know where we'd be.
