Upon visiting the office for a back epidural, I was told that my doctor's referral and insurance was valid and would cover a portion of my expenses. I would not have agreed to the procedure otherwise (this was not my first rodeo). Months later, after the fact, I was billed the full amount for my treatment and told that my referral was never valid and insurance covered nothing, contrary to what I was told in person by Advanced Spine and Pain at the time. As a show of good faith, I paid my entire balance, planning to continue my dispute and recoup some of the charges at a later date. After making the payment and being told my debt was entirely paid, I was contacted some months later with new charges. Several months after this, I was again hit with brand new charges, as though Advanced Spine and Pain is pulling this stuff out of thin air. The billing office has been very unhelpful up to this point, short on explanations and incredibly slow to respond. They threaten me with sending the bill to collections, and then take a full week to respond to me when they told me on the phone I would hear back in 24-48 hours. Do yourself a favor, save yourself the money and aggravation, and find a different back specialist to go to. There are plenty others around who offer legitimate and honest services, unlike Advanced Spine and Pain. read more

Completely and utterly incompetent. I visited their Fairfax office in June. I had new insurance and they took down the new insurance. The woman at the front desk never entered in the new info. They keep sending me bills, yet do not answer my phone calls or emails. My insurance company spent 5 months trying to get in touch with someone at their billing office, and no one ever returned their calls. I have proof from my insurance carrier that they've never been billed by this office. Now ASAP is threatening to send me to collection. As a disabled veteran, I don't need this. I don't need to be spending months trying to get in contact with someone ANYONE at this office to properly bill my insurance. I just want someone to answer my phone calls and emails so I can find out if they will ever bill the proper insurance, yet they can't even do that. Dr. Raley, or whomever actually owns, runs or cares about this practice, shame on you. The Stafford office needs work. First, let me start by saying that I got excellent medical care with a healthy dose of compassion from Dr. Mangal, Aimee and Stephen. They are great providers, and you will not be disappointed with their care. I would give all of them 5 stars. Unfortunately, most of the office staff is unprofessional, incompetent, rude and condescending. Over the past year, I've been in this office more than a dozen times and almost every interaction with the staff has been trying. Although the medical professionals are excellent, I've been able to find other outstanding providers in the area, so I've transferred my care. I may still have the same issues with another practice (as a practitioner pointed out) but I'm not going to settle for known one star service when I have options. It took nearly TWO MONTHS to have FMLA paperwork filled out by my provider simply because the office staff wouldn't forward it. Cigna mailed and faxed the forms several times, as well as called. I politely followed up with several phone calls, emails, office visits and finally gave it to the provider myself. I was scolded for not going through the office staff! Eventually, my husband got involved because I was too sick to follow up. The receptionist called my husband AT WORK to harass and verbally assault him because he was trying to reach my provider to plead for help. All this, as the patient, a PERSON, is trying desperately to get well enough to return to work to a job that could have been lost because the staff wouldn't forward the forms to the provider. The same thing happened last summer when I had surgery through this practice. The poor surgeon was scrambling on the morning of my surgery to fill out my FMLA paperwork that had been there for a month. This left my mother with the task of taking me home, getting me settled, then running out to a postal store to pay to fax it to my employer. She didn't trust the office staff to fax it and jeopardize me possibly losing my job. That's not even the half of it. I was charged twice for this paperwork service. This, after being told by the provider that I wouldn't need to pay since I wasn't able to work due my health. I paid over the phone, and then my husband was told that the fee still needed to be paid by the EXACT SAME PERSON that took my info the day before. So he paid again. Over the past year, I have no showed on days that I was too sick to get out of bed. I understand the inconvenience to the practice and paid the no show fees, only to be told that I had to pay them again because my payments "weren't on the ledger". I have called to make appointments, only to be told that I would be called back (presumably to make sure that my provider would see me because of the no shows, which is understandable). After waiting for a few days without hearing back, I would be treated rudely for having the audacity to call again. The provider informed the staff that I should continue to be seen due to health issues that cause me to occasionally be home bound. My chart was updated with this information, and still, the next time I called for an appointment I was told that I was discharged from the practice. Again I had to wait for the provider to straighten things out with the staff, but still, no call back to make an appointment. I had to call them and deal with condescending treatment. I've been told to come in to pick something up, only to get to the office and no one knows what I'm talking about. Forms that I needed for my job have been lost, found, and lost again. Unanswered emails to staff, messages not delivered to providers, voicemail and email to them not an option. My medical care was put in jeopardy when I needed emergency care and was told that I wouldn't even be allowed to make an appointment unless I paid $250 worth of fees that I had already paid. I paid them in order to be seen that day, and have found the proof of previous payment. Luckily, I had the means to pay and deal with the bookkeeping error later, otherwise, my health would have been in serious trouble that day. On and on it goes, eye rolls and disrespectful behavior from the receptionist for having the nerve to go to the window to check in, etc. I've left several voice mails, emails and messages for the practice manager over the past few months, which have not been returned to this day. I've asked to speak to the manager while in the office, and was told that he was unavailable. I've spoken to the providers who have told me that I'm not the only one to complain about the staff, they've been spoken to, but the bad behavior continues because they just don't care. If anyone of authority at this practice wants to reach out to me, I'll name names and give more specifics. Your staff has my contact info. Good luck getting it from them. Find another practice. It's sad, because the docs really are top notch. read more

After a failed procedure there and hospitalized for three days, the insurance, medicare, denied the claim. Never heard from the doctor again. They still demanded their copay or go to collections. It took over two years to get back my medicare overpayment and medicare denied the claim twice. Never pay them if medicare denies the claim. read more

First let me state that if you can get anyone at Advanced Spine to answer a phone you did better than I. They do have an online site where you fill out everything they need on you as a new patient and you can request an appointment. The site says that this is a "fake" appointment and someone will call you to set up a "real" appointment, so I made my "fake" appointment a week away. No call. Time for the fake appointment is approaching so I called them. You are on hold for 10 minutes before it throws you to "leave a message" then the line goes dead. I started leaving messages after no one answered. I tried this several times a day for a week and no one ever called me back. It has now been three weeks and I have not received a callback. Is their system broken? Do they have no employees to answer phones? I guess I will never know!! read more

Giving one star only because Dr. Mangal, who is no longer with this clinic, was amazing in explaining thoroughly and professionally the procedure that was my only option and seemed to genuinely care about his patients which is not the case for the other staff members in the Stafford office. I had been a patient of Dr. Tannous previously at a different location until he "unexpectedly " left. As a patient I was not informed until my last visit at the Woodbridge office that he had left and I was seen that day by a nurse practitioner who seemed to have no knowledge of my previous treatments and seemed confused when I told her the procedure she was stating that I needed done before surgery could be considered had all ready been done and that my insurance company stated that my surgical authorization was denied a month prior because no one from their office will return a phone call or fax to the insurance company with regard to why surgery was needed. The NP then admonished me for seeking drugs elsewhere to which I replied that is not true. She then said she had proof that I had tried and named locations and types of pain meds and called me by a different patients name. I told her I have no idea who that person is to which she replied it's you ( different patients name) and I asked her who's chart are you looking at? You just called me a different name other than how you addressed me at the beginning of this appointment and that is not my name. She then determined that it was indeed the wrong information at that point and excused herself from the room. I was then told it was due to a "system error with new software" and they would have to search for my original record and call me back. It was not until one month later after I had left numerous messages for the surgical coordinator during the last message I said that due to their lack of communication with my insurance that I would be seeking treatment elsewhere. I was then quickly called back by the office manager and told that this was resolved and then I was cleared for surgery. I requested to first be able to speak to the surgeon before blindly proceeding with surgery and was scheduled with Dr. Mangal. All went well with surgery that I proceeded with through the Stafford office. This week I woke up and was unable to stand, I called the Stafford office to make an appointment and was told by receptionist that since I had an outstanding bill they will not see me. I stated to the receptionist that not only had I payed half of my surgical costs ($1500) on the day of surgery I had been paying $200 monthly since then and asked to speak to someone in billing. I was then transferred and the Billing agent said I had made no payment on a charge from Jan. and she has no record of any payment being received and I explained to her that I needed to be seen as I was having complications with my implant, she told me she would look into it and get back to me. I asked what the charges pertained to and she said it's probably your deductible and co pays. I asked for the procedure code so I could speak to insurance. Spoke with anthem and they were much more informative that the billing agent as to what the charges were for and that they had been charged separately from surgery even though they were for the same procedure. called ASAP back and asked to set up a payment plan. Reception told me to hold, held for long period of time and reception got back on and told me she billing agent was unavailable and to try back later and did not offer to take a message. After two days I called again and was able to speak to same agent and asked her how they could deem a payment past due if no effort was made to make the client aware of a balance as I had been in the office several times after surgery with no mention of balance and nothing was sent through postal mail, e-mail, phone call or patient portal which clearly shows on my account that there is a $0.00 balance and no posts under billing. Her response was well it's YOUR deductible. I told her I was not disputing that but being that I was recovering from a major surgery this was not something that I should be expected to know was separate as procedure was done to determine if implant was even an option and that I had never had a doctors office that has depended on the patient to know there own charges. I then explained to her that because the receptionist refused to book me a follow up surgical appointment and the billing department would not call me back that I had been forced to find treatment and another orthopedic clinic. I then asked that an actual itemized statement be mailed to me and stated that their mistake should not be held against me and that I feel that the way this was dealt with to be a very poor standard of patient care to which she replied so what do you want me to mail you?...Seriously!? Save yourself the hassle and find care elsewhere, this office is horribly disorganized and lacking in patient communication. read more

This office is the worst. I had 2 failed shoulder surgeries from Dr Raley. I don't think he knows what he's doing. I have been on pain management with this office for years. I have a had to spend ALOT of time in West Virginia due to my father having Alzheimer's. He took a turn for the worse at the end of December. In January they called for a pill count. I have never had this before. I was in West Virginia. I explained to them what was going on. Nothing was said about it. I told them that my dad was doing bad and I would probably be in West Virginia. Never said there would be a problem. My dad died Sat Feb 6, 2021. I get a call Monday February 8, 2020 I Am terminated from pain mgt. what kind of shit is that? My parents house is over 2hrs away. I should just leave my family for a pill count. They have no empathy for anyone. Money is all the care about. I would not recommend this Stafford Va office for anything. Their physical therapy office caused all kinds of issues with my shoulder. After my 3rd surgery with a reputable surgeon, I used their physical therapy office and they did things completely different and I had amazing results. Dr. Raley is the best, he takes his time and really listens to you and always explains procedures that he's doing and explains in detail your treatment plan. I have been incapacitated for many months with difficulty walking and sitting. I tried rest, ice, heat, NSAIDS and PT. I was referred to DR. Raley by my Orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Raley is extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. During my first visit, DR. Raley spent time with me displaying my MRI images on his laptop. He went vertebra by vertebra and explained the probable cause of my pain. After two months of treatment I am mostly pain free. I am actually back to running 5 miles daily. A few month ago, with my pain, I thought I would never be able to run again. I highly recommend Dr. Raley and I am thankful for my results. read more

This was the WORST experience that I had in dealing with a "pain" management doctor. "Dr." Rebecca Oliver refused to provide me with the previous pain medication dosage that I was prescribed after a serious car accident, that is requiring an additional upcoming surgery. She questioned my surgeon's treatment and refused to address my concerns about taking an additional medication that she prescribed. I have never treated with pain medication until my car accident; and this woman makes you feel like you are a drug addict when requesting medication that a previous doctor (not to mention a surgeon) believed the best way to treat my condition until my next surgery. I believe that this "doctor" was trying to milk my insurance company. It is NOT standard practice to see a pain management doctor 3 weeks in a row. I will NEVER go back to this ridiculous practice or recommend anyone I know! Stay away from Advance Spine and Pain!!!! read more
