Highly recommend this clinic!! They took amazing care of my pup while he was there for 2 nights. They monitored him for a whole day and tried to avoid surgery if at all possible, but when he ultimately ended up needing surgery they had him on the table within an hour. They kept me updated the entire time, were very responsive to all questions, and took phone calls 24 hours a day when I wanted an update. They gave accurate and reasonable estimates. They even refunded me about $200 when the procedure ended up costing less than the deposit I had put down. I don't have one bad thing to say about this clinic & will gladly take my pets back here. read more

Unfortunately I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon of difficult staff and over pricing. I understand they're busy, but if they can't help, then they need to say so. I brought my dog into our regular vet's office. They couldn't find out why she wasn't eating. Scans, blood work, IV for 12 hours. They recommended going to AVC for an ultrasound. AVC wanted $400 for a scan (noted the visit, paperwork, and time there would be extra). We took a couple days since the initial bill for bloodwork, two sets of scans, IV was already at $500. We called around and everyone recommended to take her to AVC. We called them around 8 and explained what we needed and our situation. They said they have the same capabilities throughout the night as the day staff at no different pricing. We decided to take her in to AVC. We get there after driving 30 miles and they say the dr who does ultrasounds isn't in until the next day but we could leave our dog there until she got in for **$1100**. We left. Their attitude was atrocious. Especially since we had no reason given as to why we should hospitalize her other than her just waiting. They sent me an email explaining that my 14lb dog (she's a 6.5lb Westie) went home because "Owner declines due to cost of care." While the rest of the letter continued that she was tense but nothing was wrong with her-no pain (she was whimpering and visibly shaking uncontrollably. But sure, no pain). We scheduled an appointment, the soonest they had for that ONE DR. (Apparently no one else can do an ultrasound???) for day AFTER the next day-so ultimately we would have paid more to wait. Dr said she needed surgery for a bowel obstruction (did I mention they never did the ultrasound??) Initial estimate was $2400 (they demanded we put $2500?? down). 30 minutes later, and no difference in procedure/status, another person comes out and says it will be $4000 and another $750 if we want them to perform CPR during surgery (what???!!!) We got her in for emergency surgery, because we didn't have a choice. My husband called them out on their price gauging and they were absolutely awful to deal with since walking in the door. They took 3 hours to call us back after the surgery had started (which they never called us to tell us she was going in after wanting to check her kidneys), when we were told it'd be an hour surgery. My husband paid the hefty bill and I came and got my puppy the next evening after they said she was good to go. The front desk admin took 20 minutes just to verify that my husband had already paid the bill before I could even see my dog. Even after I told her she's like "the deposit, maybe. But definitely not in full..." "yes he did" (starts getting huffy)"well I'm not seeing it..... oh. You can wait over there". So I brought her home by Thursday she was doing well but hadn't yet by Saturday morning. I call because it had been a couple days since we took her home. The front desk admin says that the surgery tech was concerned and would call me right back because she may need to come in ASAP. MONDAY rolls around and I get a call back from their staff. I express my concern about the frightful call back I'd never got. She cut me off and ask if she had . Yes. She immediately just asks if there's anything else. I ask if there's anything we can do for exercise. She cuts me off again saying they can prescribe something to sedate her if she's upset (whoa lady, not at all what I said. Their directions said "confine and rest". She just wants to play..) I explain myself again. "Yeah whatever is fine in moderation" that's your professional, medical, opinion? Going from "sedate my dog to whatever within an unspecified amount of time"? They get two stars because, ultimately, they helped my dog. They get 0 for service, price, and professionalism. I implore Salt Lake to open another vet emergency hospital because this one clearly can't handle the clientele they do have. read more

Sadly our12 year old lab lost her battle yesterday. My wife, along with friends, took her to AVC because she was in pain and needed to be euthanized. As you would expect, my wife was distraught with the thought of saying goodbye to a companion for the past 12 years. The women at the front desk told her she needed to keep her grief to herself and to keep quite. Sadly, this place lacks compassion and basic decency. Never again. read more

Saw dr. Morgan for some issues my geriatric dog was having. Visited multiple vets before coming to AVC for this issue and Dr. Morgan was one of the warmest, informative and caring vets I've ever interacted with. He took time to sit with me and answer all my questions and he truly wanted what was best for my dog. The staff was also lovely. 10/10 recommend. read more

Ok so here is the deal with this vet...they may save your pets life if you are in an emergency situation, but its going to cost you an arm and a leg because of the way they operate. Our dog came in because she wasn't breathing well and after $6,000 in bills we walked away with 3 antibiotics that could have been started from Day 1 or even Day 2 of her visit for less than $300. We had to go back 3 times over 2 weeks, and it wasn't until the third time that my partner (in medical school) demanded to put her on all the antibiotics possible to clear her drug resistant pneumonia (common practice in humans until you know what kind of bacteria it is). The Dr. resisted and said they don't like doing that without a culture and so they charged us another $300 to do a culture...well a week later those results still had not come back and she was already getting better. THEY ARE REALLY GOOD AT CHARGING YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DON'T NEED. Ok sorry for the yelling, but that needs to be clear. Cut to today...went in to see if we needed to keep her on the antibiotics, after three hours and another $300 they said what could have been said without x-rays and without the 3 hour wait...basically that since we wouldn't be able to check her when her current round is up, she needed to stay on them. This is what I mean with the excessive charging...the x-rays were not needed to make the recommendations, but they still went ahead and charged $185, as if the $6k we already spent was nothing. Bottom line, if you go here be very careful about the things they tell you your pet needs...I sincerely think the Drs may have the best interest of your dog in mind, but its second to the interest of the business. If you can, go somewhere else, they will pray on your emotional attachment to your pet to get as much $$$ from you as possible. read more

Three years ago AVC provided emergency care for my cat P. At that time I would've given 5 stars for their compassion, expertise, and care, despite my cat not making it in the end. However, my recent visit with them was less than excellent and I drop my review to 2.5 - 3 stars. This downvote is because a technician tried to upsell me on a couple of very expensive tests, and she would not listen to my concerns. Neither the technician nor the vet had read the answers to my intake questions (taken by a different technician). I was left to reexplain them in the middle of the night, while under a lot of stress from having a very ill pet. Not only did I not feel valued for my concern for and understanding of my own pet, I felt misunderstood and like I was treated as a source of revenue. Ultimately, I felt the vet herself gave my cat good care and answered my questions. I understand that vet practices are extremely difficult, particularly during COVID, but I wasn't there to buy tires. Disappointed. read more

Only go if you have hours to waste. The male receptionist there was so rude! I missed a call for the status of my pet there. When I called back, he left me on hold for over 10 minutes and then said "no one back there is picking up" and said I could keep holding for who knows how long or call back later. When I asked if he could take a message that I had called back and have them call, he said he was "too busy doing other things to take a message." I called back about 40 minutes later and the process literally was exactly the same. No apology, no solutions or efforts to help, just rudeness as I was trying to find out if my cat needed to put down or not. Horrible experience. read more

It's never a good day when you have to visit an Emergency Vet Hospital. Our beloved Yorkie had an eye infection. We arrived late on Saturday and it was packed. They were so kind and took her in quickly despite having many animals in much worse condition. She had an infection in her third eyelid. I didn't know dogs had three eye lids. Her infection came without warning. They gave us eye drops but said she would have to have major surgery at a Vet Opthamologist. Luckily the eye drops worked and she's back to her old self. It was expensive but it was an emergency and for you pet lover's out there you know you will do anything for them. I hope we don't have to visit anytime soon but it was so nice to have them close and to be so helpful. read more

Took my dog in for nausea and diarrhea. Walked out with multiple prescriptions and canned dog food. My bill was over $500. Called the next day because my dogs still had the same symptoms I was told to leave a message and they would get back to me. They never did, I had to call back the next day. Told me my solution was spending $2000 on hospitalization. If you're looking to spend a ridiculous amount of money and not get your animal fixed go to advanced veterinary care! Completely unprofessional environment and extremely overpriced go to a different vet to get fair prices and better service. Also, I ended up going to a different vet and my dog was misdiagnosed and I was told he would of died if we did not take him to here as soon as we did. They have yet to refund me my money nor have they contacted me back. Please do not go here! Research and go to a safer more fairly priced vet. The entire staff at AVC is amazing. Unfortunately our little girl, Renegade, was too Ill and passed away but the doctors and staff did everything possible to try and save her. We stayed at the clinic day and night for 4 days and the staff always made sure to keep us updated on her progress and let us visit with her while she was in intensive care. I loved the transparency and the fact that we could go see her anytime we asked. It was obvious that she had made an impression on everyone there. They allowed us to spend several hours alone with her once she passed and let us take the time we needed to mourn. They were sensitive to our needs when completing the final arrangements and sent us a beautiful planter the day after her passing. THEY DESERVE NO STARS. READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE TAKING YOUR PETS TO THIS PLACE. We took our dog here at 12:50pm one day, referred by our own vet who said ER should be seeing her. We waited in the lobby for 2 hours before we were called back (other people who got there after us were called in first), and then another hour in the room before we could see a vet who said "let's run some tests, you should be able to pick her up around 7pm". We left our dog with them, thinking she was in good hands. 7pm rolled by, no word from them. We called to check in and they said they needed to do "one more procedure" but couldn't tell us what it was, when they will begin, or how long it takes. We waited again. Another two hours passed and we called again. Again, the front desk receptionist said the same thing. When we asked how long our dog has been sedated (because they said they will need to do so), she came back and said "THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR DOG. YOU CAN LEAVE HER HERE OVERNIGHT FREE OF CHARGE AND WE WILL GET TO HER WHEN WE CAN" and added that they are ER and that they have to deal with life threatening incidents first. I told her I understood but that it did not make sense they did not have ANY staff to look at my dog and that my vet had also told us we should be taking her to ER so she shouldn't be neglected. Then they said we could take our dog back home if we didn't want them to take a look at her so we did. We will be trying another ER tomorrow when the sun is up- this dog is in so much distress right now. I demanded a full refund as they asked us to pay the deposit when we left earlier in the day and they did do so minus the exam fee. Reading their other reviews it sounds like you will receive great care only when their ER is slow enough for them (on their good days), or when you are in their category 1 triage if you are lucky they decide so. Their front desk staff was extremely rude and does not try to answer ANY of your questions by saying "I don't know, I only work at the front desk." They lied to us saying there was only one more procedure that needed to be done when there wasn't - verified by their own other staff. They told us our case wasn't an emergency- because our dog wasn't in their category 1, they just kept her for hours and hours without contacting the owners to provide an update. read more

When my newly adopted dog ate his stitches I was panicked and needed to take him to see a vet ASAP. Since I had just adopted Marc Jacobs (the puppy) I had no idea who to call or where to go. Since it was after business hours I knew I would need to find an Urgent Care. I was terrified this would cost me mega cash! AVC was a life saver and helped calm our nerves. I was nervous I would have to pay a huge medical bill, but their prices were very reasonable. The Vet was very helpful and was able to put Marc at ease quickly. I am very thankful for this place and how simple and inexpensive it was to resolve my concern. I was in and out of the office within an hour. If Marc Jacobs has any future emergencies we will be heading straight to AVC. Let's pray we have no more emergencies, this new pet owner can't handle it! read more

I spent about $2000 over a one month period at my regular vet (Willow Creek) trying to determine what was going on with my cat and they kept telling me that she's fine and all the labs, X-rays, and ultrasounds are normal. I was told in a very rude tone that there's nothing else to do because she was just fine, but as her cat dad I knew that she wasn't fine. So I decided to get a second opinion and called AVC and it took about three days for me to get an appointment, as they are not a regular vets office. Once we got her in, it took the doctor about 45 mins to get an actual diagnosis of Feline idiopathic cystitis. All of the symptoms and lab results (sent over from my regular vet and taken at AVC) fit the diagnosis of FIC perfectly. So this doctor was able to figure out what was wrong in one visit and give me a treatment plan, while Willow Creek basically thought I have Munchhausen by proxy and couldn't give her what should have been an obvious diagnosis for a veterinarian. Yes it was a little pricey but as others have mentioned, it cost a person at least $800 just to walk through the doors at an ER. It may sound ridiculous, but I love my cat more than most people in my life, so I'm fine paying whatever to keep her from being in constant pain and truly appreciate AVC for vastly improving her quality of life! read more

I took my boxer to AVC after he had an urgent issue on a Sunday (I'll spare you the gross details). My regular vet was backed up with other appointments and emergencies so they recommended AVC. The staff was awesome. They listened and handled my dog very sweetly. The bill was steep but for an emergency situation it was to be expected. They sent their assessment records directly to my regular vet, including recommendations for follow up. I will use AVC again if needed and certainly recommend them to friends. read more

I've been meaning to write a review for some time. My experience with this veterinary clinic was far less than acceptable. I have a Shar-pei. Some may know that Shar-peis require more than the average care a regular dog would need. They sometimes have what is called Shar-pei fever. We have done our research and have joined SEVERAL shar-pei dog groups, as we have 2 shar-peis. One evening my 4 month old shar-pei experienced her first fever at 105.7 temp and she required after hour care. Before driving 30 minutes to their clinic I called and asked the wait time and asked if any of the drs were familiar with shar-pei fever. I was told 45 min wait and they would be able to care for the fever. Upon arrival we checked in and waited an hour and half before taken to a room. Which during that time they did not check her fever temp etc. Because of the lengthy wait time as soon as we entered the vet room my dog urinated on the seat and on me. When asked if they had potty area for dogs we were told no... no grass, just pavement. Still within the 40 or so minutes we waited in the room vitals were never taken. Once we saw the Dr. I referred her to studies etc on the shar-pei fever and she said, "just because they says they are specialists, doesn't mean they are. I could say I'm a flip flop specialists and I'm not." We couldn't believe we were spoke to like that let alone dismissed in the knowledge/information we provided her. Not professional at al. Needless to say, we were there 3 hours and opted to NOT leave our family member under their care due to the lack of service, compassion & knowledge. We asked for subcutaneous fluids and went on our way. We will NEVER use them again. read more

These people are nothing but money hungry sociopaths! I took my bulldog here because he was having breathing problems. They went on to tell me that he was probably just going to die because of complications with his breed's pallet. They would come into the room and tell me worse news each time with absolutely no empathy, and quote a higher price. We ended up paying over 400 dollars for them to take xrays and put him in an oxygen kennel that was too small. They told me he would probably die on the ride home. I took him immediately to another vet whom said it was due to swelling in his throat and said that with some antibiotics and anti inflamitories he would be okay. He is thriving now, but I whole heartedly believe this place would have killed him had he stayed. (and charged me 2000 for it) read more

Unless you want a Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) treatment I wouldn't go here. *I would take a dog here that had a cut for stitches. They have done that well in the past for me without pitching the HBOT. OK some back story; We were watching a dog for a friend while he, wife and kids took a much needed family vacation. The dog is a bit older (11) but she was still happy and fairly active. After a week of having her I left her in the back yard for a short time to sit in the sun. She loves sitting in the sun. When she came in she had a bit of a swollen lip. No big deal, I thought. I've dog sat this wonderful dog many times. She has a bee allergy and I had to deal with this before. I gave her a Benadryl and figured that would solve it. We kept a watchful eye and it didn't get better. The swelling started on Saturday afternoon. By Sunday she was puffy on both sides. She was breathing fine so a couple more Benadryls and I figured she'd be OK. By Monday it was clear she wasn't getting better. Rather than taking time off to take her to my Vet we took her to AVC after work. They quickly diagnosed her condition as a snake bite. I live in the middle of the city by Liberty park (west side of 7th east) thus I felt this was impossible. Plus I have two very active dogs that run the entire fence each time they go out. Further more they said the bite was likely in her mouth. This is a Husky mix so clearly I doubted this even more after seeing no dead sneak in my back yard. This is assuming that if bit in the mouth she would bite back or have been in the process of biting while getting the bite. That's when the sales pitch for the HBOT came in. A simple few treatments and she'd be fine. just 2ishK. Not buying it we left with our friends sick dog after they advised us to do so. Shortly after we took her to University Pet Clinic. They quickly realized it was not a snake bite and needed to do testing. I left her there for the day and after great communication and lots of tests it was determined that she was dying of advanced cancer. The owner was 10 hours a way so I asked them to make her comfortable and do what they could for her so should would last till they got home. The good news is that she did make it. After seeing her family again she made it several happy days. It lit a wonderful fire in her eyes and I was so happy that I could see them reunite. The bad news(aside from the obvious undertones of this review) is that after a bill for 200+ AVC blew it. I got the feeling they got a new toy (I looked online and they aren't common with Vets and aren't cheap) and needed to pay for it. Even after us telling them a snake bite simply wasn't possible they stuck to their guns all the way out to my truck. I total understand the need to pay the bills but when you are talking about a mans best friend quality care should be the focus. It was not at AVC. Also I would like to recognize that maybe they made the best call they were capable of doing. Maybe they weren't trying to sell unneeded services. I am just expressing my experience. read more

Well, they seriously helped me keep my pet healthy, and very likely saved her life. But, they went through way too many little procedures before getting straight to the point. It wasn't until my second visit that they did an ultrasound and prescribed medicine to reduce swelling, even though they admitted that an ultrasound and medicine to reduce swelling and infection could have been done even before all the other less conclusive procedures. So this basically upped the medical expenses while delaying the best treatment. I understand that they may have wanted me to save money by doing the cheap stuff first, but it all adds up. If you go to AVC, or any vet for that matter, taking the more expensive procedure now (like the ultrasound versus the X-ray) will offer you peace of mind, and require less visits and expenses in the long run. Also the auxiliary staff, like the receptionists, aren't the best people-persons, and don't really seem to have the best Empathy skills, which makes their services harder to tolerate when you get conflicting advice from different staff members. But hey, if ER's for humans in America are sub-par, I guess I should be grateful that everything is fine now, even if I'm set back hundreds of dollars in the process. read more

We had a very sick doggie recently after he ate a dish towel. Luckily we felt in good, albeit expensive, hands with this emergency vet service. The staff was very kind and explained things very well, including all options and costs. My one big complaint is that the vet herself felt it necessary to lecture us on not letting our dog chew things like shoes, dish towels, etc. i was very offended, as if this is something we intentionally did to our sweet dog...and in an already stressful situation it was the thing that brought my sister to tears. I got protective and the vet admitted she only had cats. Very disappointed with the vet, but the staff and service were otherwise great...and out doggie survived the night and is home healing. read more

I brought my pug puppy after her eye was injured and I am so grateful we did. The front desk was incredible! I was scared and crying and someone helped take my puppy and helped reassure me that they were going to do everything they could to help her and make sure she wasn't in pain. The staff was amazing, the doctor was incredible and I have called to ask questions about medication and treatment and the front desk is always so helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!!! If I could leave a half star for the initial service I would. We've been sitting here for nearly 3 hours. Our cat appears to have two broken legs and we still have not been been seen. We've gone up to the reception desk five times to ask when our cat will be seen and we've been told "you will be next". Since arriving we've had over a dozen animals take back for care. All but one was at the clinic before we arrived. I understand this is an urgent clinic and triaging is a must. However, Having open communication on our time line since our cat is in pain and he's terrified would have been so appreciated. Every time we've gone up the front desk staff has been sharp and unkind. Our cat is a part of the family and to have such little compassion is challenging. If we weren't concerned about moving him again we'd have gone to another clinic. If your animal is NOT a dog and if they are in pain I'd strongly recommend taking them to a different location. I have no idea what medical care he will hopefully revive or if the doctor will be kind because the staff has been frustratingly subpar. Update: the ER doctor has so far been very kind to our cat which is hugely appreciated. I would still avoid bringing your animals here, especially if it's urgent, but, so far she really seems to care and she seems very good at her job. read more

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Misdiagnosed the first dog. Said he wasn't contagious. That first dog gets our second dog sick. Vet who initially looked at us not going to be in the office for DAYS, apparently, so they can't help us get medicine for the first dog. No attempt to defuse the situation, no apologies. Oh, I'm sorry, they did apologize. "I'm sorry I can't help you." We waited for four hours only for their sloppy work and misdiagnosing to get a second dog sick. We would have been just as better off, TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS RICHER, had we not gone there in the first place. Absolutely 100% disgusting. These people should not be taking care of anyone's pets. read more

We were brand new to Salt Lake City, in fact it was our first night (Sunday) in the downtown apartment we now call home. Our 15 year old Coton had a Grand Mal seizure late in the evening. Frightened and unsure, we didn't know where to turn or what to do. I found AVC online and phoned their 24 hour line. The woman who answered calmed me down, told me what to do after speaking with a Vet, and we made an appointment for the following day. AVC took all the necessary tests, perused the documentation sent from our former Vet, and were professionally empathetic. Medicines were changed, and our dog is doing better. I thank AVC, and it is comforting to know they are there if an emergency arises. Every pet owner knows what I mean and can relate to my feelings. read more

My liitle Chiweenie had been throwing up and had diarrhea for three days. Nothing seemed to be helping. Friday night at midnight I notice she had an accident and it was a big puddle of blood.. My heart stopped. I was scared to death. I called all the emergency vet hospitals in Salt Lake. Everybody had a 3 hour wait. I decided to go to AVC and I'm so glad I did. They got us back with in 45 min. They let me know right a way that they thought she would be ok. Janell Sharber is an excellent vet!! She obviously knew we were really worried. After blood work and xrays, she said she had HGE (Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis). They gave her fluids under the skin and a shot that would kill the bacteria and diarrhea and vomiting medicine! 640.00 later my baby girl is home resting. They were getting the medicine for me and got busy with another animal and forgot about me. But i understanded. I'm so thankful for Janell she's seriously the best!!! Thank you so much!!! read more

I am a single mom with a 1 year old I am in the reserves and work at a vet clinic. My hours just got cut to 10 hours a week. So I have very little income right now. My dog got really sick and I found out he needed surgery so I was trying to find a way to pay for it. The owner of AVC offered to help offset the cost and is a huge supporter of the military. The entire staff was extremely friendly and very helpful and reassuring that everything would be okay. I would like to highly recommend AVC. I suggest never bringing your dog here. i had a 9 year old german shepherd that stomach flipped and my parents brought him in and they took him right from there hands saying you can pick him up in the morning they didn't get to say anything to my dog. 30 minutes later we got a call saying he died. they wouldn't even let us stay in the building. they wouldn't let all of our family stay in the room together. 2 at time is what they said. i had so many workers roll there eyes at me as i was crying. and now there charging us an unreasonable price. While the staff out front were helpful, the doc was very condescending and rude, as was her nurse. My dog was in labor and lost her first pup so I decided to take her into the vet. They recommended a C-Section and required for my dog to be spayed at the same time because she had lost the first pup and the doc felt "ethically responsible". $2200. And if I did want my dog to remain intact it would be $2500. This is completely ridiculous and it is not the doc's ethical obligation to decide if my dog should be spayed- that is mine as its owner. The doc and nurse scoffed at the absurd decision I made- injecting my dog with Pitocin to get the labor moving forward- they even discussed loudly outside my consultation room calling me names. I had a great experience here recently. Yes, it is very expensive, but all of the staff were extremely caring for my extremely ill cat. I was sent from my vet here on an emergency basis and the internist saw me right away. Dr. Melanie Thompson and her assistants Rita and Elliot were very caring. Dr. Thompson is an expert in feline diabetes and spent about an hour and a half helping me understand diabetes and additional things I could do for my diabetic cat. Unfortunately we ended up having to put my cat down, and Dr. Thompson seemed as saddened by this as my husband and I were. She came back to the office from home in the evening to help us. I would take another cat here again if I needed emergency or specialty help. Also, the other staff (front desk, other vets and techs in the ICU, etc.) were extremely compassionate and helpful. read more

Brought my cat here tonight because he seems like he is on a great deal of pain and growling when touched. They took him in, squeezed his stomach, brought him out and told me I had to wait for 2-3 hours with him in my car before they'd see him. Definitely not what I was expecting. They seemed like they just wanted me to leave, even giving me a list of other places to go. read more

Our dog was diagnosed with Parvovirus on a Saturday and we were sent here for follow up. The doctor was very cold and barely made eye contact. We were told either hospitalize him for $3-4,000 or put him down. His litter mate just got through Parvo a few days before. We said we couldn't afford that, but didn't want to give up on him yet. They did subcutaneous fluids and sent him home with some medicine. They told us to return the next day, Sunday, for more fluids. I read the doctors notes from Saturday when we went in on Sunday and realized they said we should be syringe feeding him if he won't eat. They had never mentioned that, nor given us a syringe. I brought it up on Sunday and they gave us a syringe and did subcutaneous fluids again. We asked if there was anything else we could do for him, but they didn't have any other recommendations. On Monday I called our regular vet to see if we could do the fluids there, hopefully saving some time and money. They brought us in and then taught us how to do it so that we could administer fluids at home! I was so upset that AVC hadn't given us this opportunity. We could have been doing fluids multiple times a day and keeping him better hydrated. It felt to me that AVC was only concerned with the easiest route for them. They told us to put our dog down without giving us the tools to actually save him. He is fine now, by way of an update. He pulled through the virus with a lot of work on our part, but we were supported by the very caring vets at Copperview Animal Hospital and were able to do it. I will never go back to AVC. read more

Inefficiency in time management when it came to my pet's urine results, tests, were not throughly discussed with me and extensive wait time. Concerns about pet's health seemed irrelevant and not a priority. Will not return. read more

My dog was having an allergic reaction to his shots i believe so i called AVC and they were very helpful. Staff was awesome and very efficient, they took my dog in right way and administered couple of shots. Within one hour in observation he was discharged and back to normal. Usually when you think about animal emergency after business hours you think about the outrage price you might have to spend, but fortunately it was cheaper than the vaccination he had that day. I am not from the area and was referred here by Fairfield Veterinary. Between September and November 2017, my lab/shepherd mix started vomiting and having diarrhea once we moved to UT, and then she had a random seizure and fever which prompted an emergency visit. Her diagnostics did not show anything other than mild anemia, but it was recommended to get a CT at Advanced Veterinary Care. We consulted with Dr. Bowersox, who is the only vet I would recommend seeing in an emergent situation if you have to go to AVC. Her CT showed nodules on her spleen and the possibility of cancer arose. Dr. Burton was the vet who we scheduled a preop consult with to remove the spleen. He made it seem as though this was such a common procedure and gave me the understanding that it was safe to remove her spleen despite her history. We scheduled the surgery for a Wednesday. He called me to let me know the surgery went well early afternoon. I visited her in the evening in recovery and she appeared to be still under the anesthetic - very wobbly, unfocused, and out of it. The staff assured me that she was still in recovery and the vets were monitoring her. So, I left to let her rest. I get a call an hour later from Dr. Burton stating that she was recovering well, so I felt relieved after seeing her earlier state knowing that she was on the road to recovery. About 1 AM, I was called by Dr. Anderson (emergency vet) telling me my dog was in cardiac arrest and they had been performing CPR on her and just barely revived her. She also told me that she had been declining for a while. No one called me to tell me of her decline! I had not a single call from about 5 PM to 1 AM! Hysterical, of course, we drove down to AVC, and my dog was neurologically gone. Dr. Anderson pushed euthanasia at me and nothing else. I was not prepared to make this decision, and I had so many questions about the cause and ways to remedy it, but she just wanted me to pull the plug and be done with it. They shoved the consent form at me before I even had a second to process my dog's current condition. I was devastated and felt powerless. She mentioned a possible blood clot as the cause, but when I brought up possible metastatic cancer that could have originated in the spleen, she seemed to accept that as a possibility that she did not have to explain further. The front desk person was on her phone, and when I had to pay, she looked at me like I was bothering her. Within the next few days, I got a call from Dr. Burton reviewing the results of the spleen histopathology, which incidentally showed her splenic nodules were benign - no cancer. He was not compassionate and seemed defensive when I tried asking him any possible reasons it happened if it wasn't related to the spleen after all. I didn't expect him to give me a definitive diagnosis, obviously, but he could have spent even another minute talking with me about possible causes so at least I have a sliver of closure. I didn't get that at all. At this point, I only have my own ideas. This was one of the worst veterinary hospitals I had ever been to, and I am a former veterinary assistant with a variety of experiences. If you have a great specialist there, that's wonderful. I have obviously not met everyone, but the experience I had is more than enough to think poorly of this hospital. It just makes it worse that this is one of the few specialty centers here...I would consider taking your pet somewhere else if you have the opportunity. read more

I highly recommend AVC as the only facility to take your pets, not only for emergency and critical care but for specialty care also. The doctor's and staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and thorough with their care of not only your pets but with their client's also. I know my pet's are given superior attention and love when they are in their care. The cost is always accurate and provided to me up front along with my options on how to proceed. I never leave feeling as if the most expensive option is the only option. Thanks AVC for providing stellar service for our furry loved ones. This place 8s only interested in money. They take advantage in people in very stressful situation and just offer unrelated to the pathology test. They do not visit your pet they offer ultrasound,follow by all different vinsane blood test and x-ray and off course they come all negative...after they push for MRI....and finally after that they tell you the pet need to stay overnight and if something happens they charge you at front to perform regular CPR ,or you pay at front 2000$ or they make you feel you are neglecting your pet. The only reason they have business is that are open after hours but from the total incompetent veterinary to the very callous front desk only interested in getting your parents trough, this place is only to make money greed poor and simple. read more
