I had a closet that needed to be purged desperately and Saint's Place has a community in need of gently used women's clothes. When my friend told me that they'll use my old clothes right away, I was sold. It was a match made in philanthropic heaven, so to speak. Saint's Place is located in Pittsford, adjacent to the St. Louis Church. Their goal is to aid and assist newly arrived refugees by giving them clothes, housewares, tutorial services, and by setting them up in new apartments. Lots of families rely on Saint's Place to get set up upon arriving in Rochester. What I really liked the most is that the refugees pick out clothes and leave with them that same day. Here's how it works: you can just leave your donations on the back porch and grab a receipt if you itemize. Make sure you keep everything together in a plastic bag to protect from the elements! For those of you who love a good garage sale, Saint's Place has an annual super sale. This is noteworthy because it's the one time of the year when they accept donations of non-children's books. Saint's Place normally only takes children's books because the refugees are only now learning to speak English. Clothing donations should be of the casual variety, maybe a little business casual to be thrown in. Pickup is available as well if you can't drop off your donations easily. Of course, volunteering is also good too! I'm glad my friend told me about Saint's Place because I know my old clothes will be put to good use here. Some items are super worn down, dirty, or expensive for used things. I love thrift stores because of the uniqueness of what you will find. But this is not okay in my opinion. There isn't much room for two shopping carts to pass each other. They moved the end cap items to areas that don't have a lot of room, again making it very congested. There is a ton of extra room up front, and I am not sure why they left it like this. I wish they would put it back to how it originally was to make shopping easier. I feel like they will lose sales because people aren't going to want to deal with the crowdedness.

Despite, him getting almost hit as well and the drivers not stopping when told too, he stayed there until the tow truck got there. Finally, after 2 1/2 hours, I was on my way to work. I am writing this in retrospect, as I look back and think of trying to find some help when a really…read morehard place was happening in my life. I was assigned a care worker through this program when it was the Monroe Plan, in the midst of the name change occuring to Elm and Oak. The worker was new there and I think I was one of their first cases. He had ended up leaving the company in about 6-7 months later on. I had received that text notifying me that they were no longer pursuing the services and they were "leaving this agency for another opportunity." But leading up to all of this, I had noticed that he did not seem to even care at all or to answer any of my questions. I had even been reported that I was not following up with him which was not the case at all. I needed help with rehousing severely so and my life was in a place where I was trying to hard to ask any kind of community care for options to having a better life situation. The thing of all this is, that when this person had called me, they would always let the phone to my number ring at half a ring each and every time. I had called the person back and he had acted surprised, and at times annoyed or accusative of the idea that I needed any help, or that he was always "very busy with other people." But it did not sit well with the aspect that I was a person too and there didn't seem to be any time or care for what I was trying to get help with. I would get voicemails from him but never had the phone ring enough for me to ever pick up any of his calls. And some of the emails seemed to be what was called "gaslighting" in that his tones said things like "I see and understand you are angry but there is no need to be upset" and trying to make me seem in a bad way when I was really trying to inquire about both dental and housing situations. The person had left the company at this point but I feel really effected in my life that there was a window of time that I was really trying to get in a better situation, and I have found services to really have people who just do not care, or that you are supposed to feel belittled or like that you are part of the problem for expecting or wanting the workers to do what they signed up to do. And apparently this was not for the worker but I wish they would have assigned me over to somebody else or something. I am still in the position of trying to find some resolution but doing it all by myself and don't really want to be in the same situation again where almost a full year goes by. I am going to make it on my own anyway and do whatever I can to find some better situations but often I look back and remember this experience where I asked out for help and was basically treated like "who cares, you don't matter." People can believe in themselves and change their own lives.

I took the 90 minutes tour through Lock 32, which goes through it, tours a bit, and turns around. Light refreshments including beer and wine are available. The tour guides are well informed and the staff very friendly. It's a pleasant and educational trip. Adults pay $30, with lower fees for seniors, military and kids. Very much worthwhile.

Pre-pandemic, I took my initial tour on a Sam Patch boat. It was very nice, but the leaves were not…read morein full fall color. Last October, when the Fall color was at its peak, I decided to take another canal tour. A lunch tour to lock 32. At the last minute a friend wanted to join me. I called the office, and they were able to accommodate us, but not able to get the lunch for her. We had a blast. We shared the Fairport Lunch, drank seltzer water and beer and shared the boat with a group on a surprise tour that ended on the canal tour. This trip was completely different from my previous one in the opposite direction. The experiences were different and the colors of the foliage enviable; gold, reds, oranges. The weather was perfect, partly cloudy, and then the sun broke and warmth came up and we had a sunny day Toward the end of the ride, the wind started to pick up. Along the way there were historical facts given by the crew. And we sang the famous "Low Bridge" song I was very happy, and my friend was also impressed with the trip. I highly recommend this tour.
