Which is perfect bc you can hear your music while you're pushing 43mph across the lake! And btw, 10 people were satisfied with a 2 hour rental for 2 of these bad boys. My goal was to land a 48" Red Drum and catch a Black Drum for the first time. We started off on a perfect day and caught the Black Drum early and then took off for a spot that he felt would be favorable for the Red Drum (although late in the season). Most guides may not be willing to travel to a further spot with gas prices today, but Captain X was bound and determined to get me on one of my dream fish. The bite was slow due to the season and some sharks in the area (had a few on, but we weren't set up for sharks), Captain X was constantly monitoring for fish, and changing out a variety of baits to give us the best chance. Towards the end of the day a storm was brewing and he explained that we can fish one more spot (for 5-10 minutes), but may have to wait out the storm to get back safely...this would put us back to the marina over an hour past our allotted time. Since I was fishing solo, I told him that I wanted to, but realize how much work goes in after the charter, and left it up to him. He gave me a big grin and said "let's get your trophy"! Literally on the last cast we saw the rod bend and heard the beautiful sound of the drag and the fight was on! I had to work the entire boat for several minutes and drop the rod almost entirely in the water a few times when the fish was under the boat. The adrenaline was pumping for quit some time after landing the fish and it measured in at exactly 48"! Needless to say, that if you want the best guide in the Orlando/East Coast area Captain X is your guy!!!

It was a windy day so we fished fresh water about 25 minutes north of Orlando. For me it was all about making memories with my two 20-somthing kids. We didn't catch any lunkers but we caught enough fish to make the trip enjoyable using light tackle. Xavier made sure the boys each realed in fish on a regular basis using a combo of live and artificial bait. I had communicated to him that the trip was for them and he made it memorable for us all. We picked up the trail at the Killarney Station and rode through to Minneola Trailhead Park. The views are beautiful and we appreciated all of the areas with trees that helped keep the heat bearable in the afternoon. There are a lot of sections that intersect with the roadway so you have to stay alert and possibly not have very young children lead the way. There were lots of people on the trail when we visited and everyone seemed to be mindful of each other.

I was in Orlando helping my son settle into his apartment for the Disney College Program, and since program participants receive free tickets to visit the parks, he and his friends decided last minute to visit Epcot. That left me with time to myself to have a solo excursion for the day. I found AWA tours on TripAdvisor and booked a manatee kayak tour near Blue Springs State Park for the next morning at 10 am. I received a confirmation text from the tour operator, Aaron, pretty quickly regarding details is what to bring, how to get there and where the closest restrooms were before arriving to the meeting spot. I gave myself 1.5 hours to get to the meeting point but due to morning work traffic, my ETA kept getting pushed back, but I luckily arrived just a few minutes after 10 am. Turns out I was the only one on the tour so I got a personal guide! I appreciated that it wasn't cancelled on me since no one else booked a tour that time. I figured that we probably would not see any manatees because it wasn't high manatee season, but Aaron assured me that we would see some that day. We paddled out around the water and saw a bald eagle as well as many other kinds of birds. I heard crocs croaking at each other. And finally when we reached the other side of the water, we saw manatees! I told Aaron multiple times that he is a manatee whisperer as they would come to his paddle board and play with him. It was so cute to watch their interaction. As we made our way close to the springs, you could see the change in the color of water to a clear green shade. That's where we were able to see a mama manatee and her baby and a few other male manatees. This was definitely a highlight of my FL trip. I loved the serenity of being in the water and surrounded by nature, and especially watching the manatees in their natural habitat. I highly recommend AWA kayak tours if you want to do someone unique in central FL!
