We stayed at the Portola Inn and Spa, so their location couldn't have been closer! It is directly across the Portola Plaza that extends to the original Fishermans wharf. The bike selection was decent, and the rates were relatively reasonable. $30 for four hours, or $40 for a full day (meaning up till 5:30 PM of that day). The particular person at this location was not very customer-service centric, and was scarcely helpful in explaining anything. We wouldn't put this place down because of him but, for such a high visibility and somewhat affluent location, he is not a good fit. I did a full day bike rental, and ended up returning it under the four-hour window, so I opted for the $30 (4-hr) rental and called them ahead of time. Communication was poor between the two locations, something that could definitely be improved especially with tourist season ramping up. I discovered upon returning the bike that I was obliged to go to their main location by the Monterey Plaza Hotel to collect a voucher for the difference, so we had to make another trip. Monterey is so beautiful this time of year, so we didn't mind but would've preferred to know ahead of time. The main location is very large and has an abundance of rentals - from kayaks to cruisers, cute lorry-style pedal bikes for families and everything in between. They also have deeply discounted sales from time to time on used bicycles and kayaks at this location. We saw an awesome 2-person kayak for under $100, and would have bought it if we had a way to bring it back! Adventures By the Sea has numerous locations across the US, so I've got my fingers crossed that the voucher is good for Maui too. read more

Kayaking Monterey is a must. Relatively calm waters and abundant wildlife. At the time of this writing, this is the only location they are launching from for the season (Cannery Row). Easy launch site across the street adjacent to M. Plaza Hotel. I believe there are discounts and relationships with surrounding hotels so ask your concierge. I felt comfortable renting versus a tour as the bay is generally calm and easy to navigate with landmarks. Here's the skinny. All transactions take place through the side of the building, a few steps down from the bike trail. I recommend going earlier than later as the sun can get intense even in the fall. Pleasant staff but they need more help. One person helped launch while the woman help process. When I arrived, I could not find staff for five minutes. You will also have to wait as they take small parties out to the shore at a time. Get ready to view curious otters and seals. An abundant aviary species. You can paddle to the Aquarium to the harbor. I took a leisurely three hours, but most folks are done unter two. read more

We came to Monterey on Valentine weekend on the best weather weekend - high 80's-low 90's. This was picture perfect. We did the Electric Bicycle Tour "17-Mile Drive Pebble Beach" -Wow it was so much fun. Some how we got lucky again and we had our tour guide to ourselves. So she was able to give us 1:1 attention. The Team at the shop explain all the safety procedures thoroughly and answer all any questions we had. They also supplied helmets too. This was our first time on e-bikes and she made it so easy, fun and safe. We made a couple of stops for pictures. I can not say enough how much fun this was, they have other excursions- Bikes, Kayaks, Paddle Boards, and Tours. We are definitely coming back to do more. read more

We rented a tandem Kayak. The confirmation email lists the location at 32 Cannery Road. We struggled to find parking closest to 32 Cannery Road and paid for 4 hours just to arrive and see nobody at 32 Cannery Road. We called and they told us they switched location to 299 Cannery Road. Decided to try something new while visiting Monterey and we thought kayaking would be the perfect thing (especially during Covid since it's outside and you can socially distance yourself). I booked a group tour, but it ended up just being the two of us so we ended up getting a private tour, SCORE! Jan was our guide and she was very knowledgeable about all of the sea creatures and the history of the town. All of the staff was very friendly and it was overall a great experience. We saw jellyfish, sea lions, sea otters, all kinds of birds, and even dolphins! I highly recommend doing a kayaking trip if you're in the area, you won't regret it. read more

When I come to Pacific Grove to go kayaking, I ALWAYS rent my kayak at the Lovers Point location. I had booked 5 single kayaks for a 2pm launch. But we received a call one hour before our launch and redirected to this location due to choppy waters at Lovers Point. I never knew this place/location (Breakwater Cove) existed. What a hidden treasure! The staffers who helped us out (Parker and Reese) were so wonderful, fun, and accommodating. The waters were definitely calmer in this location. It was so relaxing. We even got to see sea otters and seals. I can now die happy. I will definitely be coming back and recommending this location to my friends. read more

I assumed that they would only provide the kayak and paddles - but they also supply waterproof outerwear, a dry bag for your valuables, sunscreen and towels. Came here for SUP lessons and had an awesome time! Stand-up paddleboarding is really easier than it looks, especially if you have experience in other board sports (to overcome the main challenge of being able to... stand up on the board) We had a two hour lesson with a great instructor who made the experience really fun. We were able to pick up pretty fast, and went on a mini-adventure that included plenty of marine wildlife spotting. I saw some jellyfish in the water right next to my board, which motivated me to try to not fall off! Among those were some sea otters, lots of sea lions (including one at touching distance that barked at me like it was going to kill me), pelicans, and water-diving birds. Pretty sweet experience! The location for SUP and kayaking is off the pier at Breakwater Cove Marina on the pier at 32 Cannery Row, just down the street from their other office. There's a parking lot there that takes both cash and card, which charges $1.50 per hour. They have two changing rooms and a bunch of cubbies to store belongings in. Wetsuits and booties also are included in lessons and rentals! The staff is super friendly and chill. We were there on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all and we got excellent service. Found this place during COVID-19. Positive: Made an online reservation at 9pm Sunday for an 8am Monday morning rental. They sent a 7am confirmation email and had everything ready for us at 8am when we arrived. Negative: 1) The alcohol wipe in the pouch was open and had been used. Handles were also kinda sticky so we had to use our own Clorox wipes. 2) Seemed kinda expensive. $30 for half day manual bike, $50 for half day electric bike Tip: If you're renting bikes for the 17 mile drive, DEF go electric. I regretted getting a manual bike. Up until Pebble Beach, it's perfect. Post Pebble, it is quite uphill. read more

The staff (I wish I remember his name!!) was so friendly and helpful. He also directed us to the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation biking/walking Trail nearby. Eric-with-a-"C" was the BEST instructor I could have hoped for for my first time stand-up paddle boarding. He was patient, reassuring and kind. He even dared me (a sea phobic California girl) to jump in the water just so I could practice getting back out. And I did! The topper was his taking pictures of me and my husband so I could prove I have sass to my good friend out-of-state. Perfect experience.
