This review is for THIS specific location and specifically based on customer service - especially in comparison to the one closer to Cannery Row. Cannery Row location had EXCELLENT customer service and is where we actually signed up. I arrived and there was only one person helping, so that may attribute to the lack of customer service. But there was also only one person in front of me and they were simply returning a bike. Seemed pretty straight forward. But, stood there (6ft away to social distance), still - no acknowledgement of me being there at all... When it did come to my turn, the person seemed less than enthusiastic to help and behaved like it was a nuisance to help me. When I informed him that I had a reservation to rent a surrey and had already paid, he said ok and did help us - but seemed confused and got on the phone. He was in the back for a while & I was confused as I had already filled out all of the paperwork and paid. Turns out he didn't see where they were, as they weren't where they're typically are parked. But seriously - they were in PLAIN view...if he had looked up, they were literally right behind us. When he finally realized where they were parked (I could almost hear the person exclaiming "DUH" on the other end of his phone, he finally helped us sign out the surrey. Mind you - this is all during COVID, so I was hoping to see something in terms of sanitizing it. NOPE - he just had me sign a paper, and said the bike was unlocked and we could go ahead and take it. Good thing I had sanitizing wipes on me to clean it. But seriously, he could have at least brought it over and/or asked us if we had any questions about how to ride, park or steer it. But, the Surrey/Bike worked great for the four of us and our pups. And it was a pretty amazing ride...so beautiful and relaxing. Played music along the way to add to the experience, too! So, there's 3 starts for that!

Really enjoyed our surrey ride along the beach! There's a nice little path for bikes and surreys, and it seems like my dog had a great time too!

Baby you a song, you make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise.... Rental Bike $10/hr Paid for 1.5 hr - $15 per person Tina's Travel and Tabloid - Love love loved being able to rent a bike easily with no frustration. - Go inside, let the workers know what you want. Sign a waiver front and back. Give credit card for insurance (nothing charged). - Ask for a bike lock (free to borrow) - The girl asked for our preference, but we didn't have any. She gave us the mountain bikes with the 7 speed. - Follow path and go left from here towards the pier - Ride your bike down to the pier lock it up, explore, then continue to pacific grove, lover's point, have fun! - Closes at 7pm so bring it back by then! - I'll rent the bigger ones next time if we have more people!

Alvarado St Adventures By The Sea location to Lovers Point and back was about 2 hours on a large surrey with 4 adults, including breaks!

Tl;dr Our family of 4 adults had a lot of fun renting a large surrey to ride along the recreation trail. It's $40 for one hour, or $80 for two. Half day and full day rentals also available. They have an online booking system now, but we were able to get a large surrey on a walk-in basis on a Friday around 12 PM. It looked like they only had 2-3 large ones, so a reservation may be a good idea on a weekend if your heart is set on a certain activity. We were able to park for free at the Portola Hotel parking garage, as I guess the hotel isn't reopened for business yet. There were other hourly parking garages nearby if needed. We always used to point out people on surreys thinking that looked fun for one day. That one day was finally here. We have 4 adults so we rented a large surrey. They spray it with sanitizing spray in between uses. There are two steering wheels, but only the left one is actually functional. The right wheel is perfect for your child or partner that needs to feel like they are in control, but can't actually be trusted to navigate. Pedaling was easier than I thought it's be, as I was expecting this to be pretty clunky. I did have a sore butt after, but it wasn't too physically challenging during. We did have to take breaks, but mainly because it was a hot day, and there are pretty things to look at. Getting through the posts at the crosswalks was a bit nerve wracking, but our driver steered us through no problem (not me. I'm a right steering wheel kind of person). We did this on a Friday 12 PM - 2 PM, so the recreational trail wasn't terribly crowded. The bell was in the center front basket where small children or bags can be kept. It was a bit awkward for me to reach when we needed to use it. I am 5'2, and maybe my arms are short. I have no reference. We rode from this rental spot to Lover's Point, which took us around 50 minutes, including 2 breaks we made to enjoy the scenery. Going back took us around 40 minutes, including 1 break for scenery. You are given a lock to put around a wheel and a bar on the surrey so it can't be ridden away by scoundrels. You don't have to worry about finding a post to secure it to. You pass a number of other Adventures By The Sea locations, so sometimes we just parked by their surreys to make sure we weren't blocking the trail at all. We weren't sure how long we would be gone for, so we paid for an hour at first and they said they would charge us additional if needed based on the return time, which ended up being 2 hours total for us. We felt this was the perfect amount of time to enjoy the surrey, and not feel rushed or bored.

Awesome experience! The ride was about 2miles from Portola hotel to lovers point in pacific grove. Definitely worth $40 for gorgeous views and fun for the whole family!

Adventure by the Sea (ABS), has a few location along the Monterey Bay. Located near fisherman wharf, ABS offers variety of bikes to fit your need. Monterey Bay is a great area to rent a bike because of the bike path makes it easy to ride along the beautiful coast line. You are only allowed to stay in the bike path when renting a surrey bike. The whole process is pretty simple. Sign some forms, get instruction, and your on your way. Rates are by the hour, $20 for small and $30 for large surrey. It's definitely money well spent. Bike path leads to all the major attractions. The surrey bikes allowed the whole family to enjoy. The kids had a blast sitting in the front. The bike path and the surrey bikes was a big plus for wanting to rent. It provided a safe path. Will definitely rent again.

$30 an hour. $5 for any messed up pedals. $10 for any messed up helmets. These people are all about the money... they have little concern for customer satisfaction or comfort. Yes, Monterey is beautiful. Yes, what you'll see on the bike is breathtaking. But... it's not anything you couldn't see on your own two feet. I found the bikes to be extremely uncomfortable. We are three people who are two large to fit in a small surrey but our weight was unbalanced in the large surrey. I spent the entire ride falling off the side and trying to sit on one butt cheek to compensate. I would only suggest getting a bike if you have small kids and forgot your multiple child stroller at home. Otherwise, this is a big waste of money. If you go past the hour (by a minute) they charge you the next half hour. Also, the area is very hilly and it is hard to bike that. There are metal poles along the street to "guide" your surrey. Why it is harder to drive that thing than a normal car, I'm not sure...

Up pops up Santa Cruz Bike Tours- easy enough right? The website was pretty standard, nothing too flashy, professional and candid photos were shown. We called ahead to get some basic information about the Redwoods Tour and was greeted by Marty. Marty sent a very formal email confirmation and off we went to the meeting spot. Our meeting spot was Epicenter Cycling however the email indicated the tour wasn't affiliated with the Center. The guy inside the center even said and I quote, "oh yea that guy, he comes around here sometimes". We found Marty our tour guide parked on the street near the plaza, We walked up to his car and to our surprise were decade old bikes and helmets laid out in his truck to choose from. The quality was by far not what we expected but we rolled with the punches. Marty took us on a guided tour through the Redwoods which was beautiful. Offered water and 'snacks' during our ride and volunteered to be our photographer. All in all the tour was an event to remember. Did we get catfished? Yes. Will we have a story to tell and laugh about for a lifetime? Also yes. $65 a person for the tour. Marty accepts Cash or Check only. Parking in the plaza is a bit difficult as it is for customers only but the trail is easy enough to find.

Exceptional experience from start to finish…read more Big Sur Adventures absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we arrived, Ruben, Valerie, and the rest of the crew were welcoming, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great experience. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered questions without rushing, and made the entire rental process seamless. Service: Ruben, Valerie, and the entire team were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. You can tell they truly care about both safety and customer experience. They made thoughtful recommendations based on our needs and ensured everything was properly fitted and ready to go. Their warmth and professionalism set the tone for the entire day. Bike quality: The electric bikes were outstanding--clean, well-maintained, powerful, and incredibly smooth to ride. The motors performed flawlessly on inclines, the brakes were responsive, and the overall build quality felt premium and reliable. These are clearly not "cheap rentals," but high-quality bikes that enhance the entire Big Sur experience. Pricing: Pricing was very fair for the quality of equipment and service provided. Given the condition of the bikes, the location, and the level of support from Ruben, Valerie, and the crew, the value was excellent. No hidden fees, no surprises--just straightforward and honest pricing. Overall experience: Riding through Big Sur on these bikes was unforgettable. Big Sur Adventures--thanks to Ruben, Valerie, and the other gentleman (didn't get his name) -made it easy, stress-free, and genuinely enjoyable. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them again and would confidently recommend them to anyone looking for a top-tier e-bike experience in the area. Highly recommended.

We got in contact with Carlos and Coastal Ebike Connection a couple of days before we flew into Monterrey from Phoenix. From our first conversation with Carlos on the phone, we immediately knew that we had made the right decision on renting ebikes from him. Carlos met us at the motel we were staying at in Pacific Grove at 0900 in the am, and gave us some quick lessons on how to use the e-bikes. He also provided us with helmets (which were VERY comfortable), water bottles, a lock for the bikes, backpacks to carry our belongings, and some nice warm vests with the company logo on them. We signed some forms, Carlos chatted with us for a bit and snapped some photos with our phone cameras, and off we went! We had an amazing time, and wouldn't have wanted to explore the 17 mile drive any other way than on the e-bikes. You can stop as often as you want and take some amazing photos and enjoy the views at your own pace. We stopped in Carmel for lunch and shopping and walking in the neighborhood, and then headed back to Pacific Grove on our amazing e-bikes. Carlos was such a joy to chat with--such a warm, friendly, and outgoing person who is clearly enthusiastic about his business and putting his customers first. We felt like we had been friends for years after meeting and interacting with him. You will LOVE him. Carlos drove to our motel after we had texted him that we had finished our bike ride, and we talked about our amazing experience while Carlos packed up the bikes in his trailer. The staff were well very nice and helpful. The main con of our trip was the two person top sitting kayak we were on seemed to have problems with steering. No matter how hard we tried to turn right, the kayak always tended to veer the other direction which was frustrating. We got another kayak to check if they saw anything wrong visually on the water, but they couldn't see anything so maybe there was something going on with the underside of the kayak. Besides that, we had a nice time on the water and were able to enjoy seeing all the birds and cute otters and seals out and about. Later in the morning and early afternoon we even got to see the otters get more active and go diving for mud worms that looked like bright orange cigars. It was super cute seeing the otters sleeping nested in the kelp too. Try not to disturb them though since they need to conserve energy to stay warm! We unfortunately saw one tour group led by a guide that went right next to a sleeping pod of otters and woke them all up. Overall, fun place to go kayaking with wildlife!
