Great spot to rent bikes, e bikes and kayaks. 3 locations to serve you while in Monterey.

The bikes ran well overall. They were easy to learn to use. I appreciated that we were provided with helmets. The bikes were fully charged. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to turn the lights on for two of the bikes. This resulted in me falling when I couldn't see that the curb ended. Luckily, all is good. The rental rate was $35/hour with a $10/hour fee for each additional hour. We had a great time. I should also mention that the service was excellent at pickup and the after hours drop off. Our kids have grown up enjoying surrey rides along the gorgeous two miles of pathway that stretch from Fisherman's Wharf to Lover's Point. Whenever we're in town we'll rent one for an hour or two. The ride is fun in both directions but more picturesque if you go south toward Lover's Point (and also downhill on the way back). An hour is enough to do both if you don't take breaks for too long. The staff here are friendly and give you a good introduction to safety rules in addition to getting helmets for the kids. The scariest part (aside from teenage bikers who think it's funny if they do wheelies going right at you and then swerve at the last moment) is navigating between the poles that stick out of the ground at the intersections with the road. You want to go through them straight on, and you also need to keep your momentum going because there's a slight ramp getting off the road and back onto the trail. This past weekend we hit a new milestone - we rented a surrey with four sets of pedals instead of two: our 9-year-old is finally too big to sit in the basket out front, the 12-year-old will occasionally do a workout on the exercise bike, and it's time that these kids started to pull their own weight. The younger one was a little too short to pedal comfortably but the rest of us were able to make it work, occasionally doing some 30-second intervals to improve the workout. Gets two stars from me because their rental store is conveniently located on Cannery Row near the rec trail. Otherwise, the staff was uninterested and unhelpful to us (2 older women) which forced us to constantly seek them out because they kept walking away. The instructions they provided about the operation of the electric bikes was very brief. Definitely did not have safety in mind, although the waiver pages had over 10 places to initial and sign and initial and sign again, personal details address, age, emergency contacts. And last but not least, the helmets are so old they stink! read more

I was by far unsatisfied, I asked the lady working the front desk if there was a minimum hour fee. We went for a quick stroll. The bike was what you would expect. Ripped seats, rust everywhere very hard to pedal. When we got back from our 20 min ride she said ok just $36. I was very confused and said. What. I asked you if there was a minimum hour fee. She said there was nothing she can do and I don't want to fight because we're on our anniversary trip. No point in getting upset. Leave a sign at the front saying minimum fee 1hr. What a perfect day. If you're visiting Monterey, stop by Adventures by the Sea and rent their awesome Electric Bikes! I don't recommend those adorable looking canopy double-bikes...those aren't nearly as fun as the look, but the e-bikes are. Make sure you read and follow the rules to stay safe while out and about. Helmets are provided. Hot tip: bring a little backpack/hydration pack, or something to carry water and a picnic and then head towards 17 mile drive! You can't bike on the sand/beach, but they give you a lock, so you can park the bikes for any pit stops. I'd definitely go back and rent e-bikes again! read more

Great staff and great service! My husband and I came here in the morning and rented some bikes to ride along the beautiful views of the beach. The bikes we were given were good quality bikes the seating cushion was a hit uncomfortable but we got through it. The price for all day rental is 40 bucks which is worth it but we ended up just paying 20 bucks per person because we decided to rent it for 2 hours. The process was easy and fast. You sign a waiver, pay with card or cash, and then you are given your bike to get started on your adventure. We also ended up reserving our spot for kayaking the next day with a tour guide because they sell out pretty fast. That was also a really fun experience and tour guide was amazing. She kept us entertained for about 2 hours and taught us a lot about sea animals. I highly recommend this establishment when it comes down to booking your adventures! read more

My family (myself, wife and two girls ages 6 & 8) were in Monterey and decided to rent a surrey. We had often seen families riding in a surrey and always wanted to do it. Be aware that there are two of these businesses close to each other. The staff was really great and got us signed up, trained on the basics and we were off on our way. There is a path that you can ride on that takes you to Lover's Point Rock to Monterey Harbor. Along the way there are lots of places to stop to take in the sights. Pedaling the surrey was a good workout particularly when you have a 6 and 8 year old that decide they are done pedaling and and just want to be chauffeured. Also it was fun watching my wife turn the right steering wheel even though she knew that it was not connected to anything. Overall it was a blast and I would definitely recommend it if you have little ones. They also rent e-bikes and I would love to come back and do that sometime. read more

So much fun! The surrey is a great way to peddle around as a group and take in some of the sights. There are a couple of places where you can pull over on the trail and go to some stores or watch the ocean. Jess was super nice and helpful. I highly recommend getting a surrey for a couple of hours of fun. Note that it is a workout, the surreys are quite heavy and the trail does have some inclines where you will feel the burn. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! I guess we came on an off day given the great reviews from others. It was thanksgiving afternoon, I called to ask a few questions and if there were any four person surreys available, which the attendant confirmed that there were. We showed up five minutes later. My mom went in first while I looked for a restroom and the woman at the front desk told her she wasn't doing any more rentals even though my mom told her that we had just called. It was 3:45pm and they close at 5pm. I went in to talk to the woman and she told me the same thing, but I asked her why she told me there were surreys available when I called five minutes ago and failed to mention that she had no intention of renting to me. Her response was some nonsense about how by the time we filled out the waivers it would not leave enough time for us to get back before closing. (Mind you TWO parties had just ridden away from that shop on four person surreys as we walked up.) I was not backing down and she relented. I wondered how long the waiver must be that she was so concerned that it would take so long. I was literally done with it in two minutes for me and my two children. After I filled it out, she informed me that the kids needed helmets and they would need to come and try them on. I did not understand why she hadn't mentioned that before so they could do that while I filled out the waivers if she was so concerned about time. She was equally rude when we returned, 10 minutes before closing to make sure that she could leave on time, even though I thanked her profusely and wished her a happy Thanksgiving. She did not respond in kind, but simply said "thanks" in a very flat - borderline sarcastic - tone of voice. I'll never patronize this shop again and will support other local businesses instead on my frequent trips to Monterey. As a sidenote, if you rent a surrey be careful. Each section of the path you can ride on is separated by sets of narrowly spaced yellow poles and it is hard to get the surrey through a few of those spaces. This is probably why they charge $20 if you bend or chip a pedal, as it is pretty difficult to get through the first set of those poles without bumping or scraping the pedal. Be prepared to pay an additional fee! The owner should work with the city to widen those spaces to accommodate the surreys. read more

I originally booked the 17 mile drive tour, however after exploring the area I decided it would be better if i rented the bike and took the ride on my own instead of with a tour guide. i am so happy that i decided to go this route as i had a lot more freedom to see and do what I wanted at my own pace. I rented the rad mini and it was an absolute blast. For sure the highlight of my trip. There is a paved bike trail to take you from Adventures by the sea to Lovers Point, and from Lovers Point to the 17 mile drive you are riding the shoulder of the rode. It did not seem very dangerous and It was so scenic. I would 10/10 do this again when I visit Monterey in the future. read more

Had a little trouble finding which location to go to. There are two locations close by eachother, went to one location but needed to be at the other one. Took a little bit for staff to check people in but once checked in it was easy to cross the street and go down the stairs to get our rented Kayak. Fun to Kayak in the Bay Area! read more

This place was nothing but nice and professional. The people here are really friendly and helpful. I've never kayaked before and they made it a breeze for first timers. We were fortunate enough to see otters. Price was well worth it as it's an entire days worth of rental so you do not feel rushed to be in and out. Super cool people. They were so accommodating and friendly and this experience was so much better then Segway's because you're on your own and can go where YOU want to go instead of where you're told to go on a Segway tour. All 4 of us rode the electric bikes for four hours. Never been in an electric bike and it is really cool! There were just so much to see. The bikes did not give us any trouble at all! It was such a world class experience! Most of the sights we got to see just took our breath away!!! Drivers were very friendly to bikers all over! Most of all, Carly, the associate was super friendly and helpful. She set up everything together for us and the paperwork to fill out was very minimal.
