I'm in the Northwestern system, but the ambulance had to take me to Rush because it's so close. All I can say is that EVERYONE did a tremendous job with me. They responded to every request I had. They explained every test, procedure, IV and medication--which I demand--without me having to drag information out of them. I didn't feel like I was caught up in a slow bureaucracy, or was just another revenue source. They made me very comfortable as I was improving. "Close the door and turn off the light please." And they did, every time! Sounds small, but it was a huge comfort. They thought of me instead of only making things easier for themselves, which I've experienced. When I could eat real food, I got a big plate of pot roast and mashed potatoes; not bad! But who eats that much? :-)) One HUGE problem. The in-room phone rang off the GD hook with AI robocalls trying to sell me everything from funeral insurance to grocery programs to therapy. I needed to keep the phone live because my mobile phone was dead for awhile. If I hung up, they'd call back Immediately. You know how many distractions there are to sleep in a hospital? THESE CALLS DOUBLED THOSE INTERRUPTIONS. Woke me up EVERY time. RUSH: These calls are a substantial and authentic obstacle to getting well, which is your business. I mentioned it to a doctor, and he had a resigned "That happens." NOT good enough. They've GOT to do something about that. It felt like way more than a coincidence that those calls were coming in. If you value your life and you are hell bent on coming here stay on them because if you don't they will forget all about you. And, before you ask I have one of the best insurances in the country, so getting paid was not a problem. My wife had a great experience - felt comfortable, safe, and informed throughout the entire labor. She loved her OB, Dr. Barry - she was encouraging, honest, compassionate, and patient with us. She took care of my life and I really appreciated her for that. After delivery, you're taken to the Mother Baby rooms with what have to be the best nurses in the city of Chicago. They're honest, quick responding, funny, and obviously love their jobs. Thanks Rose for the newborn bath that put him to sleep for 4 hours! Chris and Lauren, thank you for answering our questions and making us feel confident in becoming parents. Martha, the on-site lactation consultant, is professional and was eager to teach my wife all about how to breastfeed. Overall, we felt welcomed and supported while on the 3rd floor at Mercy. Really, we just want others to know about this hidden gem because we hadn't seen any reviews about it online. Thanks to the entire staff on the 3rd floor.

I was on my way to a gig when my sister called, frantic our other sister, who was visiting for the weekend, had suddenly fallen ill and was taken to Mercy Hospital. I dropped everything and headed there right away. When I arrived, there was confusion about visitors, and my sister was asked to leave so they could treat our patient. When I was finally allowed back, I was alarmed by what I saw: my sister was unconscious, foaming at the mouth, and lying on her back with no doctor or nurse in the room. I immediately turned her on her side so she wouldn't choke. After waiting about 10 minutes with no staff checking in, I went to find help. Nurses in the area couldn't tell me who was assigned to her, and I was given paper towels to manage her condition myself. After about 30 more minutes, I finally found a nurse at the desk who said she was assigned to my sister. When I asked why no one had come to check on her, I was told my sister had been "extra drunk," combative, and had spit on staff so they essentially left her there. Despite this, she had still not received fluids or proper care. The nurse also mentioned her shift was ending soon and that someone else would take over. However, another hour and a half passed with no one checking on my sister. Eventually, a doctor briefly stopped by and said she would wake up in a few hours pending toxicology. When my sister finally regained consciousness, she was disoriented, confused, and not behaving normally. It took multiple attempts just to get assistance for something as basic as helping her to the restroom. At that point, it had been over four hours with little to no care. We requested a toxicology report, especially since her symptoms suggested she may have been drugged. Although blood had apparently been drawn (there were even remnants left in the room), we never received any results. The room itself was also concerning there were gnats and visible lack of cleanliness. When a new nurse came on shift, the attitude was dismissive. We were told we could leave, even though my sister clearly wasn't stable. When asked to collect a urine sample, the nurse refused to assist and said it was only being done to "satisfy" us. We complied anyway, but to this day, we have not received any follow-up or results. This was one of the most neglectful medical experiences I've ever witnessed. My sister could have choked on her own vomit. Over the 4-5 hours we were there, I don't believe her assigned nurse ever once checked on her in the room. Thankfully, we were there to advocate for her but that shouldn't be necessary for someone to receive basic care. I'm sharing this because no family should have to go through something like this. I truly hope Mercy Hospital takes steps to improve patient care and accountability so this doesn't happen to someone else.

I couldn't get into my normal Northshore locations and made an appointment here. I will most definitely be coming back here again. Walking into this place was like walking into a day spa. From the reception area to the waiting room, I kept waiting for someone to come and grab me for a massage and a facial. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I did not have to wait long before I was called into the area where the examination rooms were. Again, I had the feeling I was in a day spa. The environment was very calming, I didn't feel I was at a medical appointment. Once I got into the room, there was a completely separate dressing room. There were flowers and there was a spa robe, not a paper one and the robe actually fitted. And it was nice and soft. I am in pretty good health and don't go to the doctor that often, but man if I had to, this is the place I would run to. The only thing that could have made this visit better was if they had served glasses of bubbles while you waited.

I felt so free to be able to talk to them and not feel judged and they made me feel absolutely no anxiety. And I'm a very anxious person so usually when I go to the doctors or anything of that sort, I usually feel very anxious not really because of the health part but more because of how I usually get treated at certain places that I've been to before but here it's completely different. I had an amazing nurse, and her name is Silver, such a sweet woman made me feel heard and let me know that they care and that their job is to make sure that we are cared for and listened to, I told her how they made me feel so comfortable and have zero anxiety and made me feel like I wasn't being judged like the other hospitals and doctors offices I've been to before. Me and her got to know each other very well and related to so much! She was very comforting and on top of that she even made sure I didn't have to outside for my ride to get there and let me stay in the room I was in to sit down since I'm pregnant and gave me water and I even got to watch tv to occupy my time before my ride got there lol. She felt like home to me and I'd love to see her again and hope I do! I also would love to mention how once nurse silver got me hooked up to check my blood pressure and my heart rate and monitor my baby. A doctor came in by the name DR. Jill Gomez and she was also incredibly amazing to me and reassured me about my worries and answered every question I had asked her to the point where I didn't even have any more questions to ask, which is absolutely amazing. And again, I felt very heard also from her, and she even listened to the trauma I had from my last pregnancy and she was so comforting and reassured me and let me know that I will be just fine, especially in they're care and that me and my baby look good perfect! I told her also about me having a previous C-section and how this time I really want to try for a vaginal birth because I don't wanna go through that trauma again and she was all for it and was rooting for me to be able to have the natural birth I always wanted and we got to talk about it, which felt even better.I felt so much better after her reassurance and we also even related to certain things that made me feel even better and made me more open to speak about anything and everything With her about my worries and the troubles I went through. So sweet and SO HELPFUL. One last person I would love to mention is DR. Sophia. When it came to her coming into the room to see me she was also understanding as the nurse and the doctor before her and wanted to let me know how much she cares for me and how much she understands what I went through and why I feel the way I feel when it comes to being so worried and honestly anxious about any complications with this pregnancy because of my last pregnancy trauma. She even gave me a paper to get in touch with a Doula to try to get that dream birth that I'm wanting and hoping for and also showed me where to find help when it comes to having anxiety about the past trauma that I had went through with my last pregnancy and of course how the doctors had treated me before. The nurse and both the doctors made me feel so much better about everything and honestly walking out of the hospital. I never felt happier. They honestly really made my night and helped so much with the reassurance and the overthinking. I genuinely hope I get to see all of them again. Lovely people and know how to put a smile on my face. Thank you guys for the AMAZING experience. I 100% recommend this hospital. :)

The new clinic on Washtenaw is fairly nice. The old hospital building is just that, old. Even…read morethough some areas are newer like registration, radiology, and the cafeteria, many other areas like the ER, patient rooms, and most heating and air conditioning are in serious need of help. I've found if you treat the employees with respect that you'll get it in return. But most of them don't take crap and can turn on you like a rabid dog! The cafeteria is pretty modern and open fairly long hours with a vending area next to it. There is a Subway sub shop, Connie's Pizza, and an Italian and burger sections much like a food court. There is a good amount of seating but right at 12pm it gets a bit tight. There is a good amount of security. All unlocked exterior doors have a security person nearby and there are a few security stations in various places on the first floor. The multilevel parking deck is pretty big and I've never seen it at capacity but sometimes you do need to park on the fifth or sixth floor. Patients and visitors get discounted parking and any stay less than five hours is just $2 with a validation ticket. The ER is not a happy place and is why I removed a star. The wait can be awful. Go on a Friday or Saturday evening and you could easily wait six hours just to get to see a doctor. Then the wait for labs or radiology is even worse. I'd suggest not going here for your ER service. In all the place is OK for a very busy urban hospital. Had they done a better job repairing things, fixing the air conditioning, and managing the ER this has the ability to be a four or five star hospital.

I've called and called and finally at 2:15pm got someone on the phone. She was nice and helpful but for me to have to reach out like this is one of the problems with healthcare. What if I didn't reach out? What if they never contacted me? What if, as the case actually is, I'm working and can't take their random phone call whenever they were going to bother making it. I'm a little afraid of having surgery there; what if this kind of lack of management and protocol are in the surgery department, too? It's not reassuring. And it may be very dangerous to my health.

I contacted the sickle cell clinic, and they told me they could not see me and that I needed to go to the ER. I sat in the ER for approximately 5-6 HOURS IN SEVERE PAIN before receiving the care I needed. My pain level was a 10, and the staff repeatedly made light of my situation. They treated my sickle cell crisis as if I had a minor paper cut. I should not have had to become upset and make a scene in the emergency room just to receive medical attention. BUT I DID! lol That is completely unacceptable. After finally being seen, I was told to follow up with my doctor. I did exactly that, but THE DOCTOR NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Not only was I left sitting in severe pain, but I was also left without the follow-up care I was instructed to seek. SHAME ON UI HEALTH! This is not how patients deserve to be treated. Someone needs to take accountability and address how sickle cell patients are treated in this facility. We deserve compassion, urgency, proper medical care, and follow-up, not dismissal, neglect, and unnecessary suffering.
