I'm specifically reviewing this spot for the COVID-19 Booster shot. Overall, I didn't know what to expect. I was quite anxious about it, but in the end it was okay though it's not the shortest process I've ever experienced when getting my COVID shot, just come in to expect a wait. Have some patience as they're doing the best they can especially with how MyTurn has set them up for failure. L O C A T I O N AFC Urgent Care is located in this little plaza on the corner of Stevenson and Ballentine. It's in the same plaza as Excellent Hair Salon & Com Tam Thanh. There's a small parking area. It wasn't hard to find parking immediately in front. For COVID Shots & Testing, there's an area located to the left side of the building to line up. P R O C E S S We came in early as we had an appointment at 9:45am for the booster. According to MyTurn, the appointments start at 9am. If you see the times on their walk-in hours, it says they start at 9:30am. Well we arrived at 9am and there was just one lone soldier who was there waiting. I would say around 9:05 we saw them starting to get things ready: paperwork gathering onto clipboards, pens, etc. One person was handling a lot of the line management at the beginning & letting us know the situation which was nice. Behind him the staff was prepping everything else. We were told that the MyTurn site allowed at least 5 people to sign up per time slot which is NOT the amount they can handle. It's a bug in the system. Unfortunately they couldn't change it before everyone started to bombard to sign up for appointments. Give them a bit of grace people. I'm sure they'll try to fix it going forward but it's a bit too late to turn people away. I would say around 9:15 we finally got our paperwork to start filling out & there's 4 pages. It's fairly easy to fill out, but takes a little time. We were asked to move back & have folks with appointments before 9:30 to go ahead of us. That's fine. We were in front of a few folks that had 9:30 times so this is where line management happens. You'll be clumped into 30 minute segments in the order you arrive. So yes we came early, we were in the front of the "9:30" clump of people. Around 9:48, our paperwork was taken with our ID, medical card, existing COVID vaccination card, and asked which vaccine we'd like. They have all three so take your pick. Initially there was only 1 person distributing the vaccination. I would say around 10 they increased it by 1 & the line started to move. I finally got the shot at 10:15. After you wait 15 minutes anywhere you'd like, you can grab your COVID vaccination card back at the door where all the staff enter & exit. They tell you to call a number (341) 333-9171, if you experience any emergency symptoms after you leave the premises after your 15 minute wait. In terms of how the vaccine was administered, I appreciate the attention to detail. Making sure they have the right person, which shot you're about to get & the information written down. They go back into the room & grab the right vaccine before heading back to you. All in all, it took us 1.5 hours from line up to leaving. Now I think if we arrived at 9:30, we may have been able to do everything in 1 hour as the additional person distributing the vaccine helped move the line along. The line itself felt like it was the same length when we left as when they started vaccinating folks. T I P S 1. Do not come super early like we did. I would say, come at least 10-15 minutes prior as they do organize the line by appointment time 30 min clumps, unless they change this tomorrow. 2. Wear warm clothing. It's outside so if it's a cold day like today, you'd want to make sure you bundle up. 3. Expect at least an hour from start to finish unless you're there earlier than your appointment. 4. Be kind to these folks. They work hard to help us be vaccinated. Considering the technical aspects screwed them over, they're trying their best to handle the situation. I M P R O V E M E N T S As I'm sure the days are going to be similar, they should start getting everything ready at 8:30am. It was a little unnerving to arrive at 9 & no one was there to at least welcome us or if we were in the right spot. Perhaps find a way to provide people the paperwork beforehand but I know this maybe hard to do. There's plenty of time to fill out the paperwork as you wait in line. Find a way to provide MyTurn the right information about starting times as well as no more walk-ins. We were about to drive by yesterday to see how things were. Good thing we called because they told us they weren't accepting walk-ins. Have a big poster board with: 1. No Walk-Ins 2. Line Up According to Appointment Time 3. Fill Out Paperwork 4. Prepare your ID, medical card (if applicable), and COVID card (for booster) In the end, it was fine. Folks today were nice to staff as they explained the situation. So hope AFC will do better in the days going forward. Good luck and hope this helps. read more

A normal Covid test taken in 2020 but sent surprise medical bill over $900.00 recently, which was over 4 years now, also they threaten to have collection & court case by creating something but never happened. As you can tell from countless other reviews here and on google, this place makes it a regular pattern and practice to extort fully insured patients for fake "services" AFTER insurance pays in full for office visits. I received two bills related to services rendered over three years ago. My insurance already paid these crooks almost $900 for two simple blood tests performed in a lab. Came in for a routine check up due to flu like symptoms. I was the first person there but a person that walked in after me knew the front desk lady and was admitted before me. We received a surprise bill $770 for a covid test done back in 2020 (in a makeshift outdoor tent). Find that they are over-billing with a charges adding up to nearly $1000. Came to this place twice in 2020 (12/21 and 12/28) to get Covid Tests, when the clinic promoted free testing. Four years later on 03/2024, I get a ridiculous bill saying I owe ~$700 for those two visits . At first I got scared and tried to pay on the Saloojas Inc website that was provided on the bill, and my transaction bounced twice due to the site being fraudulent. So I ignored the bill. Then I get a second bill in 08/28/2024, but now the total is ~$1850. What happened? Do the people at the clinic don't know how to do billing or what? And on top of that, the letter said "Final Notice Before Further Action". I called my old insurance company who I had at the time of service, and they stated they paid off the services for both visits. So Saloojas/AFC Urgent Care Newark = bunch of phonies! Hello everyone, Like many of you, I have received an invoice totaling $4k for 2 Covid tests and 2 Covid shots. I contacted my insurance, blue cross, and they confirmed that there was a coding error in the provider side (AED Urgent Care). I was in the phone for a total of 2 hours where 2 different insurance representatives tried calling Urgent Care. The receptionist was incredibly dismissive and simply would not comply to any questions regarding the bill.That if they wanted to be paid, they'd have to contact the insurance. I got my right ankle injured and visited last month. The X-ray position is very unprofessional, my physical therapist is hard to judge based on that. The doctor name unmatched. How do we go about filing a complaint about this facility? They sent me 2 bills out of the blue with no context of service date or reason for care and expect me to pay? One statement was for me and the other for my husband. Both in the exact same amount, but my husbands statement has insurance applied. Even then, they messed up the final amount due. I've been to this Urgent Care a few times but I've never had such an awful experience until today. I made an appointment online to where I walked in on time, nobody was there so I went right up to the counter. When the lady asked what I was there for I said my appointment was for 2pm and then proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions that I didn't exactly know what to say to. Then I told her I was there for sinus infection and she proceeded to tell me to go to the EMERGENCY ROOM. I told her I made an appointment for today with them and I was ALREADY there so I would like to be seen. After I tried to pull out my insurance card and then she told me that they DO NOT TAKE INSURANCE!!!!??!?!? The front office lady was extremely rude and unhelpful. Also suspicious that billing statement says insurance not on file even though every time you check in they ask for insurance. This place is now sending my a bill from December 2020 for a COVID 19 test which was supposed to be "free". My insurance could not locate the transaction since it was too old and I had to reach out to AFC to ask them for a claim number ( I reached out a couple of time because of the lack of response). I've been going to this urgent care for several years now, though I only visit maybe 1-2 an year. I've been obviously making my payments in a timely manner, but I just received a bill over $1,100 for a visit in 2022 for a COVID test. It doesn't state any details about a visit and what is the cost made of, so I had to figure out by looking into my old photos to figure out. Also summary includes total charge, insurance payments, insurance adjustments and amount I owe, which don't even sum up. On top of that, I do have a payment history on my card for $336.35. I immediately looked into yelp and found number of reviews stating the same thing this month, so it seems like they are suddenly started sending out these old statements in a hope of collecting more? Staff does not have quality care and all they think is how you will get check in so they can bill your insurance. Billing dept does not even send the claim on the alotted time for your insurance to pay, patient ends up paying out of pocket instead of the insurance. If you call the office, staff does not have any knowledge of the questions being ask, you will be ask to hold for a long long long time. Regretted coming here. Will not recommend. This urgent care is absolutely ridiculous. They bill $749 just for referring to a specialist!! I visited for red eyes. They said it's Conjunctivitis and prescribed some eye drops. After taking their medication for 10 days I still had the issue so went to them again. They referred me to an Optometrist. I got better very fast with the medication prescribed by the Optometrist. A few weeks later I had an abscess and again visited them. That time, they just told me to visit Emergency services in Washington Hospital. Fast forward a few months and I get a bill of $344 for first visit, $749 for second visit and $749 for the third one too. This is absolutely insane! They are billing $749 for just referring to specialists. Even the Optometrist and the other specialists I visited charged less that this! My mother-in-law who had no insurance visited a different urgent care for wound care where they even bandaged her wound and that costed us $150. How can this UC make up such insane charges for so little value provided - what a lack of ethics.
