I started with this office a long time ago with Dr. Barr up ij Anthem. I never get to see him anymore. Too many PA's. The one person that I felt was wonderful at finding melanoma and not burning everything on your skin was "Hope" but she has now left to become her own entrepreneur. It is now easier to get through to the office. The last time I went I saw a new PA and she wanted to biopsy 12 places on my body but could only do 6 at a time. My results are back and 4 are benign and 2 have to be burned. I feel this one PA wants to do too many unnecessary biopsies. So I am moving on to another dermatology office. Who wants shots to numb you and cut holes in your skin. read more

Love love love this office. I had a white spot the gal told me was from just getting older. I was scared it was fungal or something weird. She told me it didnt crack when she stretched it sonshe knew it wasnt. I thought that was weird. She did a biopsy just to comfort me and she was correct. At first I was disappointed that she brushed it off. Then I was so happy that she listened to me as all this time I was the weirdo. Ha haShe did everything right.. My husband had a red spot on his face. I asked him to go check it out. He went in and it was nothing, but they did find cancer on his arm! Not melanoma. It was caught in the very early stage. He had a choice to get chemo injections a couple times a week over many weeks across town or 1 day of scraping, and then retesting to make sure it all was removed. So two months later (today) he had an appointment to have it cut and scraped. They even called in between to see if he waslnted to take an earlier appointment a month sooner, but his work schedule was too busy. The doctor was awesome. Explained everything down to every detail. He was their 4 hours. He was given an option to freeze, but it was better that they did the scraping as after all said and done, they wouldn't have gotten it all. He was all stitched up and on his way. My husband has really been impressed with this office just like me. read more

I would stay away from this business unless you are willing to pay cash. They are unable to cash checks, their website payment service doesn't work. Then when they can't figure out how to receive your payment they turn you over to a debt collectorAnd to top if off, no matter why you go see them they will find a way to keep wanting you back for more services for skin cancer! Had a pretty negative experience with this office. I unfortunately had to wait for an appointment for months at this office while the scheduler was pushing me to book elsewhere. The examining room had open bottles of medicine and an actual pile of needles on a tray which didn't seem right or clean to me. My appointment then only lasted less that 10 minutes if that. I didn't catch the Doctor's name nor did they introduce themselves to make the situation more comfortable before examining. The doctor wasn't even thorough enough to review both areas before suggesting someone else review while throwing around frightening words like cancer. It was very difficult to find questions to ask with how sudden the doctor relayed this. I have to pay for this appointment as well as the next for someone at this practice and I genuinely don't know if I should do that after this experience. read more

Phone and scheduling system is horrible. Found a melanoma, went online to schedule, first available was 4 months out. As an existing patient I called to see if I could get in before the melanoma killed me and talked to an AI Bot for 15 mins that was no help and transferred me to a "colleague", terminal hold. I had my annual skin check today, which is never fun, but they are always awesome at Affiliated Dermatology in Surprise. I want to give a pickle award to Chloe, who took me to my exam room with pleasant professionalism, and gave me great eye contact while she got my records up to date and made notes of all my concerns. I am a long time patient for a Derm in IL. I fly back home quarterly as needed to see my Derm! But... I needed emergency help with a small facial injection due to a droopy eye lid. Office rushed me in and out, doctor did not seem to care. He probably spoke to me for 3-5 minutes before leaving to another patient. The office was very nice and modern, but it felt less like a doctors office and more like a boutique plastic surgery center! After I payed my co-pay ,I got another bill months later in the mail asking for an additional payment for a service that I was told was included in the cost initially made. They billed hundreds of dollars extra to me and my insurance company over something that should have been free, and I honestly feel as if I have been scammed. Their billing department was not helpful either. This was the first and last time I will ever come here, and Iwould recommend going to a doctor's office that cares about you and does not abuse its billing system the way this place does. read more

Really disappointed with this dermatologists office. Both me and my baby are patients here. Firstly it's hard to get an appointment. You will wait on hold and no one will answer so you are left with pressing a key to wait for a scheduler to text you for an appointment which they never have before, or you can leave a voicemail. I've been trying to get an appointment for a mole that appeared a month ago and has in a couple week span gone from pink to dark brown, irregular in shape, raised, and scaly. With a family history of skin cancer I had hoped to get in right away. I left a voicemail earlier in the day and got a call 15 minutes to close where they said every doctor is completely booked out over a month out. Super disappointing, I told them I would have to switch offices. In addition to this, on my last bill I noticed they charged me over $50 for 'medical educational material' which was a single sheet of black and white text on printer paper that they handed me on my way out that says what a biopsy is which I already knew and discarded before leaving the building. I can't believe they would try and charge anyone for that. read more

I've seen Dr. Barr 2 times now for Mohrs surgery. In the past month. He is very good at his job. He very personable, easy to talk to and a true professional. My last visit there I noticed how in tune his assistant Robin and he were. She was right there with him in assisting him with my treatment. If I could rate the scheduling of appointments when calling the office and my actual visits to the office separately the reviews would be much different. I have liked every staff member and dermatologist I have seen at this location. I actually adore Hope Pack, a dermatologist there. She is friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see me when I returned to have some cancer spots removed. She was excited for to that my spots were found. She makes the visit pleasant. The medical assistants I have met on each occasion have also been great. The front office staff is professional and friendly. The only downside to this location is getting an appointment scheduled over the phone. It is best to make appointments in person as I cannot seem to get through to a person when calling and messages are not returned. Other than that, I fully recommend this location. read more

I am a current Patient. I see Dr, Mullins at the Gilbert location. He and the staff are awesome and to this point I have been satisfied, BUT.... I have tried and tried to make an appointment on a device known as a telephone. It would be nice to call a number and speak to an employee and schedule an appointment. God knows you make enough money to have a human being answer a telephone and schedule an appointment for me. After hours of waiting, I dialed back and choose another option and was told that I had to leave a message for the scheduling department, which had already been done. The person said they get a hundred call simultaneously and that it will take DAYS before someone can call me back....DAYS???? So much for customer service. We were a walk-in and were grateful they had a cancellation and were able to get us in. We were very disappointed to have to pay an appointment fee when they were not able to treat our issue. They recommended we go to the emergency room, which we did, and it ended up costing almost $1500 for something they could have done in the office. Won't be returning here.... read more

I visited this place in Nov 2019 to have some moles checked. They removed 6 and I have some seriously ugly scars at each spot. They had zero bedside manner, just came in and started slicing them off. They wanted me to come back to have one removed deeper, but the spot was still painful from the original removal so I declined... it hasn't come back, thank goodness. But my major complaint with this place is their billing dept. Over one year later, I am still being billed for this visit. I paid my account off in January of 2020, but now they are stating that was only for the partial bill... and the statement I received simply says, balance transferred from old billing system. WHY DIDN'T THEY ITEMIZE THIS A YEAR AGO?!? I am so frustrated and disappointed, I will never go back. read more

I have been a patient with AD for many years with good response. Today was the worst treatment I have ever received. I had an appointment scheduled on 6-15 at 1230. When I arrived I was infomed that no appoinment had been scheduled. The receptionist was very unhelpful and would not make any eye contact or show any empathy at all. I developed a severe rash over 30% of my body and was seen by Affiliated Dermatology. The rash lasted 1.5 years. Affiliated Dermatology wanted me to see an Allergist for further testing. The rash itched so bad that I was scratching to the point of bleeding. Long and painful story cut short, the rash was caused by a somewhat common allergy to Amlodipine my high pressure medicine. Today, on my visit I was totally scatter brained and somehow misplaced my necklace that I removed during my exam. Dr. Mengesha's assistant (Angel) was so sweet and found my necklace in the trash and even washed it off for me. This necklace was a gift from my husband on my honeymoon and is just about as important to me as my actual wedding ring so I was so relieved that he found it. I have been a patient for over 10 years and can no longer recommend this practice. We were encouraged to use the online appointment scheduler. I used it to schedule a skin cancer screening for our son (who lives in Phoenix) and who has been a patient at the practice. We waited 6 weeks for the appointment. The day of the appointment, I took the afternoon off (lost wages as a consultant) to drive into Phoenix to get my son. He also took the afternoon off - more lost wages. We arrive at the Anthem office and are told the system internally canceled our appointment immediately after I made it. They ask if we had a confirmation. I showed them the appointment confirmation emailed to me hours later. On my side, the appointment was confirmed. The receptionists acknowledged that many others have had this same problem. Why on earth hasn't the system with a KNOWN problem been fixed? Now we wait another 4 weeks. We always have a very difficult time getting anyone to call us back. The receptionists agreed this is also a problem. It takes many days and multiple tries. Prescriptions are never called in as promised at appointments. We always have to work with the pharmacy, call Affiliated several times, and keep following up. Two family members have very ugly scars from mole removals done by PAs because the wait time for a doctor was over a month out. The practice has gotten much worse over the last decade. Been a patient for approximately 9 months. The facility is professional and clean. I have no alarming complaints about the staff actually they are thorough and professional. I love how they referred me out for further tests which my other dermatologist did not do. I felt as though they were thorough and really trying to get to the bottom of my skin issues again unlike the last place. They detected unusual bloodwork and took it very seriously referring me back to my pcp then another specialist in which I'm presently seeing until the issue is resolved. If you had to squeeze something out of me I would offer that they could work on their bedside manner a bit. Kind of "too professional" or robotic. I am a new patient to dermatology at 47 years old. Was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and kept on having reoccurring read missions to the hospital for what was diagnosed as septic post-operative infection. Long story- but ended up with a diagnosis of a very rare autoimmune disorder called pyoderma gangrenosum. Saw NP Nathan and MA Vanessa for the first time today and was comforted immediately and brought into my own plan of care. I am starting a very workable treatment plan and have hope and faith in Nathan and Vanessa. Customer service from the entire Surprise office was amazing. I would give negative stars if I could. we brought our 16 month old here for a bump on his heel that the pediatrician said we needed to have looked at. The "Dr." came in and said she did not think it was a wart of callous and looked concerning as being possible cancer. She said a biopsy would be the only way to know for sure so we agreed. The medical assistant failed to numb the area, she gave my son multiple shots in his heel while he screamed, most of which was spraying out the other side because she pushed the needle all the way through. They said after the numbing he wouldn't feel anything. The Dr. came back in and began cutting the lump off and our son went ballistic, halfway through she said "I think he can feel this". The medical assistant left and came back to say that another Dr said they should have added saline to the numbing agent so it was more effective and proceeded to fill another shot up. The Dr then asked if she could continue to cauterize it (my son is still hysterical at this point). While looking at the sample the Dr then said, "hmm maybe it was just a wart". We refused any further treatment from this chop shop and left. It is unreal that they would allow someone so inexperienced to see a child and put him through that when she clearly had no clue what she was doing. Stay away from this place. read more

I can't adequately express how frustrated my husband and I are with Affiliated Dermatology. Not sure what has happened. You can never reach a live person when you call. When you put your phone number in for a callback, you don't get a response for 72 hours or longer. I notified them on April 16 and I just now got a text from Yesenia and it is May 2! It does zero good to leave a message, because it takes the same amount of time to get someone to contact you back that way - if you get one at all. The text messaging is a joke. It takes two days to get an automated response, and then when they finally contact you to ask if you've been helped or if you still need help or a call, no one helps or calls you!Who is Yesenia; is she a live person? She certainly never calls me back or manages to fix the problem or answer any questions that we have. I miss the days when you used to actually get to talk to a live person the same day or within 24 hours. Now that never happens. We need a prescription fixed and sent to a different pharmacy or changed all together, but we cannot talk to a live person to do so in our pharmacy is unable to do it with NimbleRX! We weren't even told you use this system. We can't access the prescription. We normally use Fry's Pharmacy. Our son just turned 18 and is inexperienced to handle this issue, so he didn't know any better, and we cannot get the situation fixed because no one calls back! So frustrating! read more
