Is that necessarily a bad thing? I suppose not. However, it is a strange choice for a grocery store and I did notice that the store is already getting a bit of a foul odor. For that reason, I believe the carpet was a mistake. The fresh produce section was decently stocked. While he produce is all things you can find at other stores, I would certainly label this produce section as ample. The meat section is bit small. They have the very basics, but certainly nothing special. And although I did purchase a few meat items, some of the beef appeared dark brown in color and it was off-putting. The rest of the store is a bit disorganized. We take for granted that most stores follow the same pattern as far as what items are stocked near other particular items. That was not the case here. What struck me most--and please forgive me for sounding pretentious--was the rowdiness of the customers. I would normally chalk these instances up to isolated incidents, but at Cash Savers, I encountered at least three annoyances. First, there were a couple of kids--maybe 10 or 11--who got their hands on a motorized shopping cart. They were driving around the store, goofing around, crashing into carts, and when they got bored doing that, they parked the cart sideways in an aisle blocking it. We also encountered a large family with young children, the kids were walking down the chips/snacks aisle and smashing each bag that was within reach to crush the chips. Then in the parking lot, several cars were not following the lines and it threw off the entire parking lot. What did I like? The prices on items are darn cheap, including some items that are fairly expensive at HEB or Market Street. For those few items alone, today was worth the hassles. I would come back here, but would love to see them expand their meat selection.

So I'm in a habit of bringing in only cash on hand when I go to an establishment such as this. Normally I'd pay attention to how much I'm spending so as not to exceed the amount I brought in, but I guess the freezing cold outside froze my brain and did not pay much attention to what I was doing. So this time around I did exceed the amount of my purchase by 62 cents. I offered to go back out to my car to retrieve some change, I even offered to put back one of my items, but she wouldn't have any of it. Instead, without much thought, she reached into her purse and paid for what I was lacking. Now, 62 cents may not sound like a lot, but 62 cents may mean a lot to give to a stranger, not knowing her situation. She could have taken me up on my options to come up with what was lacking, but instead she chose to be kind, to be understanding. After 35 minutes I approached the counter with a soda, handed the cappucino cup to the cashier, and told her about my wait. She spoke to "manager," who walked to machine, and pronounced that it was working. I said, it just dispenses hot water, and she said that they had "just" received a shipment of product, and had not had time to unload it. I also saw that several of the cup trays were empty, and lids were empty in the soda area. This place needs a new Manager!

It's small and quaint with a shelf of natural or local foods (the local honey especially catches the eye), but a majority of what is sold is... water. Water containers and water. I know we're made of 70% water, but it seems a little odd to me to have a store that is too. It's apparently 9 times filtered and reverse osmoted, though, so if you're gooooing to go to a store to specifically buy water, I guess this is the place. The real gem, however, is their fresh squeezed juice, and this is the sole reason I come here. They freshly squeeze lemons, limes, and/or oranges into their pure water with just enough simple syrup to take the sour edge off. Order a "jackaroo" if you want all three juices. It's delicious and worth a stop by for a tasty, refreshing drink.

I quit buying chicken there after 3 times I bought rancid chicken and it wasn't even expired yet. With chicken there is no doubt it's bad. The smell will knock you over as soon as you break open the seal. I have bought turkey there without any problems though. Other meats you just have to be careful on your selection. One other issue is they are poorly stocked most of the time. They will be frequently out of items. I'm not sure if this is the managers fault or the vendors but it's frustrating either way. It's customary to tip your bagger. They don't get paid by the commissary. They accept coupons but no doubling. They have coupons at the front of the store but I find they don't carry some of the items they have coupons for which is frustrating. The cashiers and other workers are friendly and helpful. The store and bathrooms are clean.

After my haircut, 2 doors down is a very small Asian market. When I entered, I was greeted by a young girl who was very knowledgeable about what they had. I browsed for about 30 minutes and picked some oddball items to try. I saw all sorts of stuff I was unfamiliar with, but I found the large bottles of Mae Ploy sweet chili sauce. Score! For Abilene, I imagine this is a pretty good selection of Asian food. I'll be back!

Walking through the main entrance, an immediate right, takes you straight to the takeout counter. There, behind a class case, is a selection of freshly cooked Mexican food. There's choices of pork, beef, and chicken, cooked in various ways. Lechon, chicharron, carnitas, bistek, and much more, along with rice, beans, etc. I decided on a lechon burrito grande, went to the register to pay, then came back, and was handed my burrito, after my receipt was verified. Then I headed over to the condiments station, and added some onion, cilantro, chopped cabbage with sliced pickled jalapenos, and some green salsa to my burrito. I was quite surprised when I bit into my burrito, but it was just the juicy succulent meat, wrapped in the tortilla. No rice, no beans, nothing else; just meat inside the tortilla. The most authentic Mexican eats that I've had in Texas. I can't wait to come back here. One thing to note, many of the employees on spoke Spanish, and I was the only non-Spanish speaking customer at the time. I had no issues communicating and felt welcomed here.

I went back to go see if I can exchange it for a new one and the blonde lady that was working there, not sure if she's the owner or whatever but stared at me as if I was just talking out of my ass, then walked over to the seasonings just to then talk to me like I was stupid and acted like I didn't know what i was talking about or I was lying about it being opened and then tried to convince me that all of the seasonings Are like that. She also said that the lid most likely tore the seal off itself, which that has never happened to me before but either way, the seasoning was hard, and there was no telling how long it had been open on the shelf. Some of them did stick closer to the top, but once you shook it, it all easily broke apart, the one I have is almost completely solid from top to bottom. EITHER WAY, I would've loved a seasoning that was completely sealed when I open it. Instead of just exchanging the $12 seasoning after spending almost $200 there just a couple days before, she gave me a really hard time about it and was super rude and basically told me none of the other seasonings were any better like a "too bad, so sad" attitude. I just said OK and she just walked right back to the front without saying another word to me. Her facial expressions and the way she quickly dismissed me was just so uninviting and disrespectful and me and my toddler just walked out. We won't be going back there. I'll find a new place to get our meat.
