The best BBQ I've had in the area. The restaurant itself is spacious, bright, and surprisingly upscale--almost more polished than you'd expect for a BBQ spot. I usually think the smaller, hole-in-the-wall places have the best food, but this place proved me wrong. The staff at The Shed were incredibly friendly and helpful, making the whole experience even better. Portions were generous, and everything tasted amazing. The brisket, in particular, stood out--it was moist, tender, and easily one of the best I've ever had. I even spoke with the manager to share how impressed I was, and he went above and beyond by taking me back to see the smokers. That really showed their pride in what they do. The best barbecue in Abilene is definitely a battle between The Shed and Jay's. Both are great, and both are expensive, but all bbq is. The Shed opened a new location several years ago, and this is my first visit since they moved. The new building is GREAT! Love the look and layout. We got there at 11:15 and the line was almost to the front door. I ordered fatty brisket, jalapeño cream corn, and Mac and cheese. The brisket was just ok, not very fatty and not very juicy. But the bbq sauce definitely helped. On the other hand, both sides were GREAT! The jalapeño cream corn was fantastic, and the mac & cheese was very, very good. Stopped by for lunch before a golf round and ordered The Bomber to go. The restaurant is clean, plenty of seating and friendly staff. The order was filled in less than 5 minutes with a pretty busy amount of customers. The sandwich was amazing. Plenty of brisket, pulled pork and jalapeño cheese sausage with cole slaw. The Shed Market might just serve the best food in Abilene and definitely the best BBQ I've ever had. The moist brisket was incredible: tender, juicy, and perfectly smoky. The jalapeño cheddar sausage packed just the right amount of heat, and the ribs were also tender and amazing. The sides held their own too--the creamy mac and cheese was rich and the jalapeño cornbread added a perfect kick that tied the whole meal together. This place is awesome! We ordered brisket, chicken, potato salad, green chile macaroni, jalapeno corn, and mixed berry cobbler. The food was delicious and the portions were great! The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating available. Outside you can play a game of corn hole if you choose. The best BBQ that Abilene has to offer by far! It's taken me years to try the shed! I've always wanted to, but every time I show up they're out of meat and closing early. This in itself says enough about how good it is... it also means you need to show up before noon. We tried their brisket sandwiches and Mac & cheese! Their brisket is packed with flavor and so is their Mac & cheese. We ordered ours to go, but it's definitely a nice to eat out on their patio. This place rocks! All round fantastic BBQ place to go to anywhere let alone Abilene. I am a bit of a BBQ fanatic in that I go well out of my way to try really good BBQ joints all around Texas on my travels. I have had more than my fair share of diversity and variation of BBQ since moving to TX 16 months ago and this place stands out as one of the best ones so far. Here is why... The food! The food of course is amazing. Not just the 6 meats I got to sink my teeth into but all 6 side items and 2 desserts well. All well above average. The meats I tried were the whole slew of basics, turkey, jalapeno cheddar sausage, brisket (lean), pulled pork, ham slices, and pork ribs. Not one of them was so-so but truly flavorful, tender, uniquely smoked with post oak and lots of love I am sure! The house BBQ sauce is also wicked good! Not super thick, briny, sweet, acidic, tart, and slightly spicy at the end. A wonderfully balanced sauce for nearly every meat they have. I also like that none of the meats come with any sauces on them, it's up to me the customer to add it if needed. I also feel this shows that they want to let you taste the meat and smoke most, not cover up lesser quality meat and smoking tactics with tons of sauce. The turkey was on point, my barometer for any good Q joint is turkey, nail that and I trust anything else you make it on point. Case proved true here as all others were just exactly that. The brisket won me over as my favorite of the BBQ meats but the pulled pork and ham were also solid! The jalapeno cilantro slaw was exactly as I like it to be for pairing with BBQ. Tangy and slightly sweet but dowsed in cream or dressing. Light but flavorful and crunchy, perfectly complimenting the savory BBQ meats. The pinto beans, veggies, mac n cheese, potato salad, and jalapeno corn elote', are winners all around, no corners were cut in making these sides. The blackberry cobbler and vanilla wafer banana pudding are slap your mamma good any day of the week! This is not a run-of-the-mill recipe here folks, it's the good stuff I assure you! I have to mention that you have to speak to co-owner, wife of Byron, Stacie, she is a class act gal helping run this family-owned and run business and her story, values, insights to this business are amazing! The love, passion, process, time, effort, that goes into their BBQ-making business is truly outstanding and it clearly shows in their products. I cannot wait for their new, larger property down the road to open to see where the business goes this summer! Only good things are gonna come from this place!
