Almost impossible to get someone on the phone.leased a car and they were the finance company even the dealership won't use them anymore

I have been with this company for a few years. I refinanced my vehicle and got them at a lower rate. I always make my payments on time so I had no issues with them unfortunately my car was totaled in an accident and I have been working with my insurance company to pay this loan off. They are trying to send them the money and everyone I talk to have no idea that all I need is a letter gurenteeing that they title will be released once eits paid in full. I have send several emails and so has my insurance. It's been days and I still have nothing. read more

When you call this bank, you are on hold for more than 40 minutes. It doesn't matter if you are calling when they open at 8am, or at lunch time or afternoons. The wait is still the same. It's as though they only have one representative working. They do not have a call back option. I do not recommend. read more

Never finance a car with them. They will give you every reason not to refinance. They don't value their customers at all. You have been warned. Why can't I get my interest rate reduced seeing how I have an account with the same car and never missed or been late on a payment. Just got the following email from them, All New Jersey and New York branches are closing at 12 PM and Connecticut branches are closing at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 18th for a company-wide recognition event. All branches will resume normal hours on Thursday, September 19th. Basically, they said, we make our own hours, too bad for you. This is also true during covid. They don't care about their customers. I have a credit card and auto loan here. Please find a better bank. The technology aspect is ancient, setting up payments, logging in to account. I hate to love my Chase account over this, but the options and what they can do here are just not comparable. I never even mentioned their customer service, on both the auto and CC end, absolutely terrible! There was even a situation where my auto loan paperwork went to affinity plus credit union, as the dmv made a mistake, and affinity plus absolutely blew my mind with how helpful they were being vs my actual auto loan holder, afcu. Been with them since 2019 had no contact with them since 2022 but decided to Repo my car for non payment which is not true since aug 2022 why in anyones right mind will they wait one year 4 months to put a repo on me dec 29 2023 something is totally off They suck customer service sends me this: after i sent proof of payment. Unfortunately at this juncture, if you wish to redeem the unit, you will have to payoff the loan in full. The last payment on the loan was made 8/15/22. You will have until 2/10/23 to pay the loan off. After this date the unit will be transported to an auction house of sale. Be advised that contractually, all signers on the security agreement will be responsible for any deficiency balance. You will receive a notice from us, once the unit is sold and the remaining balance due and payable to Affinity FCU, to zero out the loan. Thank you. read more

I made a mistake regarding the coverage needed for my car, and they took about 1month to realize that. Then when they told me, i fixed it right away. But they ended up charging me 2000$ for the time it took them to realize it, try to talked to them but apparently they are not responsible for their mistake, but you have to be responsible for yours and paid them. Customer service deserve the 1 star, they are not here to help you, just collect.... read more

Website wasn't working to submit for an auto loan so I called. I spoke with a woman and explained the trade in situation and was approved rather quickly. However, the loan is not inclusive of a trade in if they only will accept 105% of a purchase price. However, I must trade in I said. So, I wasted my time and damaged my credit score by them suggesting I go to one of their dealers who they wouldn't budge for. read more

I've been a customer for over 30 years and am so disappointed that their mortgage department couldn't commit to a closing date six weeks out. Not acceptable in a hot seller's market. We found other lenders who did commit so are now looking for another financial institution. read more

Awful !! Been with them now since 2010 and I am ready to close all accounts. Their membercare customer service talks like trash. You wait over 20 min and end up talking to someone with barely any english and RUDE and obnoxious !! Last couple of years it has been an awful awful experience every time trying to talk to someone there. And for loans they only allow 1 deferment for the life of the loan no matter the hardship or if one has to pay for cancer treatments- Doreen Palley refuses everyone and won't speak to the members either and she is like a self-determined highest authority, she won't allow members to speak ro anyone else about their loan. I missed one payment in January of 2023 due to me getting laid off from my job. February came and I paid my car note thinking ehhh I'm only one month behind and I will catch up when I can . Months later these people are calling me telling me I'm 2 months behind on my car note . Every representative I've spoken to says different things . One minute I'm behind in march , next minute im behind in June. I was only behind one month !!!!!!! These people are scammers. Something told me to look them up on yelp and sure enough I'm not the only one. Lol they keep saying I'm behind 2 months and I'm not . Quick background: I have an 815 credit score, this was my FIRST LEASE. MADE EVERY SINGLE PAYMENT trough automatic payment on TIME EVERY TIME. I set up automatic debit for my lease payments. Paid all in full. All of the sudden WITHOUT my authorization they tried to get from my bank account the FULL RESIDUAL amount of the lease, as if I had bought the car. $27K UNAUTHORIZED ATTEMPT. I was shocked. To say I don't recommend them it's an understatement. UPDATE 1) AFTER returning the car, they kept on charging me payments, TWICE A MONTH (so far as of 6/3 not resolved), their excuse "You extended the lease until 6/24/20". I HAVE NEVER EXTENDED THE LEASE AND THEY ALREADY HAD THE CAR AND I PAID EVERY SINGLE MONTH ON TIME. UPDATE 2) Got email from representative yesterday, please note the continuous madness: a) no apology, just stating WHY they felt compelled to keep on withdrawing from my account the monthly payments AFTER LEASE EXPIRED and car in their possession b) no mention of the WORST which was the attempt to WITHDRAW WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION the full residual lease amount of $27K (I never ever wanted to buy the car at the end of my lease) c) They still think i should be paying lease installments (albeit to someone else), since you know...they already have the car, the lease expired and I made EVERY SINGLE PAYMENT. I would give them a zero if I could. I will be paying off my loan immediately and getting away from this horrible company. They continue to find ways to charge more money and this last round made my automatic bill pay insufficient and destroyed my otherwise perfect credit score virtually overnight for a measly $200. The moment I saw it, I got the account current, but they promptly informed me that its my fault, the damage is done, and I'm on my own fixing my credit score. Super... My list of complaints is long. I have nothing good to say. This has been a pain since day one. Here are a few other highlights of my experience: -I couldn't set up my online account without calling customer service. I needed a "special" account number that is not included on the statements. For anyone who may be trying setting up their online account, the number on the statement labeled "membership eligibility" is not the member number you need to access your account. Yes, you have another member number LOL. Just call customer service and be prepared to sit on hold. -When I tried to sign up online and it failed, the system didn't tell me what went wrong... just that something in the form doesn't match their records. Could be anything. I redid the form multiple times thinking I had a typo or maybe they had an old address or phone number. Nope, it was the other "special member number" that I didn't have and the website doesn't tell you where to find. -Even after getting through to customer service, getting the mystery number, verifying my identity through their security questions, and setting up the account with the bank still on the phone with me, the account won't be useable for multiple days. Has to be verified... again... by another team... even though I am already a member and have had an active account and loan account with them for years. -But my favorite is all the fees. There is a $5 convenience fee for paying my loan through the Affinity website! I suppose if you don't have your checking account with them, they apparently prefer you paying with a paper check that requires getting checks from your bank, mailing it in, waiting a week for it to get there, and hoping a person opens it in time to manually process it before you miss your due date. (Better send it 2 weeks in advance or might end up with more fees. The online convenience fee is less than the late fee if the mail fails you, so I guess the lesson for me was to choose your fees wisely.) Or perhaps its just a creative strategy to annoy me into opening a checking account with them (guessing that has fees too, but not worth me exploring as there are plenty of other options.) I'm speaking only of my own experiences, opinions, and frustrations, but really I'm just so mad at myself for staying on with them this long to the point where it damaged my finances. I work with three other well-known banks for various loans, accounts, and businesses and have never seen anything like this. This was a silly little student loan that used to be at a good interest rate, but it has cost me a lot in extra fees, stress, and now my credit score. Tried to support this local business (also bank with Chase who I would recommend) by getting an auto loan and opening a savings account with AFCU. Awful experience from start to finish (closed my account). Website to customer service and everything in-between, unpleasant to infuriating!!! Missed a payment, 1 payment due to an illness, which they deducted from my savings account without providing ANY NOTIFICATION! Just took the money! I didn't find out until I went to the bank to make a deposit in the savings account! And their branch employees? Could care less about their customers experience. Utter indifference towards me as a customer or resolution of my questions. Would not recommend this business. Based on the yelp rating it looks like my experience is not unique! read more

I would put ZERO if it was possible. This is a horrible bank from their online options to their customer service. I am currently trying to refinance to get away from them. They are absolutely unwilling to help you out under any circumstances and they always find ways to charge you more money. Member care is a JOKE. Every single time I have called them the representatives are INSANELY RUDE. I think they should use the call recordings to retrain their people or gut it out and replace them. I set up auto pay on a school loan months ago. Then all of a sudden they're telling me I'm 2 months behind. They cancelled the auto pay because the payment amount changed from the interest changing on the loan and told me they can't have it auto pay if the amount changes, but home loans change and I don't have to reset it up. I paid the bill and reset up the auto pay. Then I'm told again that the payments aren't going through. I paid and now their web page says "Unfortunately, you don't have a checking account with us so we can't register you for this service. If you're interested in opening a checking account visit our website or give us a call directly" Are you kidding me? I have to have an account with them to set up auto pay. No thanks! This experience has been a nightmare. read more

When I refinanced through affinity I was told and shown my interest rate would be a lot lower and after it was all done with it was actually higher than what I originally had and was told that they couldn't do anything about it. I tried to get a loan deferment over a month ago and cannot get a response I have emailed and called numerous times and keep being told no one is available to talk to at the moment or am given the wrong phone number to call about it. read more

This place is horrible, you have to email them to let them know you're on hold so they will pick up the phone. I was off work for 5 1/2 months with a fractured neck and fell behind on my car payment. Now that I'm back to work and trying to catch up, I've made several payments and they don't apply it to the past due only current further ruining my credit and threatening repossession. I'm a new-ish member. Decided to try and use their mobile app to deposit a check. Got an error that I wasn't "authorized" or something to that effect. Of course, you can't call past 5pm and only on weekdays. Finally had time to call and am told that I have to have my account open for 30 days before I can deposit checks using the mobile app. Come on people. It's 2019 already! Ridiculous. They simply insist they are correct yet when I prove to them that the math does not add up they say they will get back to me but never call me back. I've been an Affinity member forever now and have a variety of their services (loans, CC, etc). Stopped by to get some cash for an upcoming trip and when I went to the teller, she starts digging out large bills without asking me in what denominations I wanted the money. I stop her and say, that's not how I need it. The girl shot me the nastiest face, like I was actually making her do work. I have never been treated so unprofessionally and rudely by a teller there. I'm sorry I didn't get her name so I could write the manager a letter. When she's finally done counting out the money, she just shoves it at me in this large messy pile. Wow. Pretty much what Beeswax said. Just want to add that their online banking never worked for me. I tried to get the issue resolved for months and months but Marcia at the bank was of no real help and never followed-up. Eventually I got frustrated, gave up and closed the account. Membership with Affinity does give you free access to financial counseling services from CCCS of NJ. There are other outside services you can utilize as well. So I did receive some benefit from opening an account there. It was just terribly inconvenient. read more

I have attempted to register for Estatements to my account since I opened it in September. Each attempt whether online, at my local branch or through a phone representative through customer support has been unsuccessful. This should be a very basic action and it has cost me $2 each month ( which my paper statement reminds me of each time with a message to register for Estatements!) I have been a long time customer with Affinity (over 20 years) and I have to say I'm shocked to see some of the negative customer reviews here on Yelp. Perhaps they pertain to a different branch. The online banking is very convenient for me and the location in New Providence is also incredibly helpful. I have several accounts with them including checking, savings, credit card, a joint account with my son, and a 2-year CD (with a decent promotional rate). Recently I had the need to open an estate account after the passing of my mother. I checked with SEVERAL local banks including 3 that I have personally done business with. NONE of them were able to help me due to my brother and I (the executors of the estate) living in different states. Kassidy at the New Providence Affinity was the ONLY ONE who was able to get the job done. Not only that, but she guided us through the process, ensured that each step was done timely, and kept on top of it until in was completed. She even called me a few times to keep me updated. Finally, once we were able to access the funds in the estate, she gave me enough checks to get us going with payments, and waived the late fee I had incurred due to not having had the funds in time to pay for the funeral. Was a member for 25 years. When I changed jobs from Bellcore I just let it sit idle for years, earning a couple pennies interest a month. In 2015 they made me get rid of paper statements, and apparently then started charging a dormancy fee (which I never saw). Sent me a statement for 0 dollars the end of 2017. An all around terrible experience with this bank. Without notifying me they closed my checking account due to inactivity. Then when I started using it again for online bill pay I had to pay fees because the account didn't exist anymore. In the meantime, they had opened up a new checking account with a new number. I had one bad experience with a phone rep; however, the owner and manager contacted me right away to address the issue. They did their best to meet my needs as a customer. I was connected to Mr. Ralph Perez who was very attentive and did his best to accommodate my issue and concerns; for a complete year I had difficulties accessing the website for payments until Mr. Perez linked me to a professional representative who walked me through the registration process. This credit Union is doing nothing to improve it service during this troubled times. They do not allow indoor banking unless you have an appointment. They have 2 drive thru Windows and only use 1. Some customers are totally unprepared for transactions and I have been behind cars taken up to 20 mins . They want their customers to be fully automated so they have less customer interaction. They don't even open on time. They could be doing better by: Get the 2nd drive thru available, make customers more prepared by asking them what forms they need to be better prepared the next time.
