Just stop and move onto the next company. This was an absolutely horrible experience for a pretty basic garage, 570 sq. ft. with storage. First, it took almost six months to build and that was mostly because Ken was completely nonresponsive. The electrician spilled some of the paint that had been used to paint the garage and he reported it to Ken immediately. Instead of taking care of it in a timely manner, the clean up did not happen until two weeks later because Ken would not answer calls or voicemails. By that time the concrete was ruined. Someone eventually came out to clean it up but now it looks smudgy, like when you try to erase a pencil with an old worn out eraser. The next problem was the storage area we requested. For a company that has been around for quite some time, we did not think this was a big ask but apparently it was. Their idea for storage? Putting plywood across the rafters. There is maybe two feet from the plywood to the top of the roof in the center. Definitely not enough space for any kind of storage. Ken could not be bothered by this and never even came by to look, even after he said he would. Their remedy for this nonsense was a paltry $750 discount. Let's talk inspections. The first inspection failed after the walls went up, then again when the gutters were installed, then again with the roof, and then the final inspection failed twice. So in summation, if you use these people you do so at your own risk, they really are an awful company with zero integrity. read more

If I could give less than a 1 star I would. If you're looking for a reliable, responsive company don't call these guys. I called and spoke to Earl about some repairs I needed on my garage, which had been built by another shady contractor whom Earl seemed to know a lot about. He told me that the guy had built the garage all wrong and that some major repairs were needed. He seemed perturbed because Affordable Garages was one of the bids I got initially to build my garage, but I had not selected them. I asked if he could provide a quote for the needed repairs. He said he could and would get back to me in a few days. Two weeks went by so I sent an email to follow up. No response. A couple of days later I called and left a message for Earl. No response. I tried again 3 days later and Earl answered the phone. He said he "had been busy" but would get me my quote in a couple of days. Another week went by and nothing. No quote, no phone call, nothing. So I gave up and sent him an email telling him "thanks for nothing". If he didn't want to do the job all he had to do was say so in the first place. No harm no foul. But no, he had to string me along and act like a complete a-hole. I wouldn't recommend this "company" if they were the last contractor in town. Save yourself some aggravation and find a truly reputable contractor to deal with. read more

Having had just about every bad actor on home projects I was elated to finally get a responsible company and a reasonable price from start to finish. The job went perfectly, took them a month to do the job as quoted and there were absolutely zero problems. And the owner came out himself to verify the work!! Who does that?! So where to begin? We got quotes for a garage that is 16x34. It has two garage doors one in the front one in the back with a ramp. We also widened our driveway by six feet and laid a concrete sidewalk and porch around the back of our house. We got the quote from a few companies and we chose Affordable Garages and Concrete. They were not the cheapest but were not the most expensive. They also seemed to know a lot about what we wanted and what the city would allow. The garage framing took one day. Just amazing. However they put the window in the wrong place. They offered to move it but it was already installed and we didn't want to delay our project. The other thing that was miscommunicated from the original quote was the pitch of the roof and how much storage could go in the rafters. We wanted to have a lot of storage in the rafters so we added the extra joists and plywood to our quote We were not told that the pitch of the roof would only be 2 foot at the tallest point. So at the last minute when we found that out we had to change the roof pitch in order to make it work. That upgrade was $1800 above our quote. All the workers were very kind and skilled. Trash was cleaned up and our yards were kept clean. They are very hard working. The owner was very nice and quick to answer any questions we had and fixed any issues or things we didn't like. My wife is very analytical and is very detailed. My point being she noticed everything and questioned it. The owner always answered her questions and fixed any issues. We are a hard client to satisfy but in the end we were very satisfied. All in all this was a great experience and we are glad we chose AGC. If we ever move and need a garage we will call again. If you need a garage built relatively quickly at a reasonable price and you aren't particular about your property or the final quality of the garage build, AG might be the contractor for you. However, if you favor good communication and respect for your property or if you wish to share and collaborate on build details that can fluctuate after the contract is signed, AG is likely not your contractor. In addition, if you simply don't appreciate being talked down to, you should definitely look elsewhere. This is our second time building a detached garage so we had an idea of what to expect and were ready for the common issues that can arise with construction. With that in mind, our experience with AG with respect to the final quality is a 6. Our experience with AG is a 2. Ultimately, our garage build turned out okay, but it wasn't without a considerable amount of frustration and many, many hours of us staying on top of AG to handle planning, site management, sub management, payment schedule, and quality issues. If we hadn't taken the role of manager, the final quality would have taken an even bigger hit, and they would have clearly been okay with that. Their poor planning and documentation coming out of the contract process meant we started from a bad place. For example, we found out their framers were not provided accurate information - meaning the location of our windows and the plan for our board and batten siding were completely inaccurate which led to major issues with the final finish and ones we just have to live with. There was no way to fully correct this as their contracts purposely have little detail. Earl assured us we'd have input and the final details would be resolved before commencement of the project or during the build, but this was either never relayed to the rest of the team or considered unimportant as they had a basic, one-page contract signed. This makes the sales process fast and easy but also allows AG max flexibility to 'figure it out as they go' without asking the homeowner for their input until it's too late. In fact they actually refuse to communicate with you as a homeowner and leave it up to subs, with incomplete info, to complete the work. AG's most consistent communication was to inform us to not talk to their subs. We can respect the issue that might come from having homeowners directing subs, but not having a construction manager to help provide communication between the people paying for the garage and the people building the garage caused nothing but problems. All it amounted to was incorrect work being done and a ton of rework, as well as considerable compromise on our part on the final quality and design. The cherry on top was their insistence on talking down to us. We have been through a multitude of construction projects over the years but they consistently either over-explained basic stuff or purposefully tried to confuse conversations so that we would walk away without pushing for even standard quality. Also, there were multiple times they emailed or texted asking for payment in less than 24 hours when, in fact, the work hadn't been completed. They regularly failed to check on completion or quality so we had the unenviable task of regularly asking them to finish or fulfill some basic completion standards. Most of the time they finished but it often took weeks for them to respond or finish work (embarrassment or just unwillingness to assume documented responsibility, we aren't sure). We were forced to manage the completion of work and payment timing since they didn't provide minimum oversight unless we pushed for them to visit and review the quality. In short, the whole experience was much more stressful and frustrating than it ever needed to be. There were so many other battles that were unnecessary throughout the project that we haven't shared here, but which led us to this decision... if we had it to do over again, we would definitely choose a different contractor. One that values doing good quality work (not just constantly saying they have the best subs - they don't), takes responsibility when things don't go right on their end, and communicates effectively throughout the process. read more

Garage is good but I will need to hire somebody to reroute the gutters because they poured the concrete before finalizing the gutter layout. Moved the garage placement without my permission. I want to start by saying that if you are looking for a contractor who will build you a well built garage, not skimp on materials, and who is knowledgeable about city code and works hard to ensure they meet those specifications this will be a great contractor for you to hire and you need not read my review further. However, if you care about working with a contractor who will deliver exactly what you ask for, respond to questions/concerns in a timely manner, or who will take full responsibility for failures to meet contractual agreements, you should consider looking elsewhere. We had our old 1800's garage structure (which was crumbling) torn down and hired Affordable Garages to replace it. The owner, Earl, came out to meet with us, take measurements, and talk about the project. He followed up promptly with a quote well below two others we had already received and that included certain city code updates and a wealth of other details about city requirements that none of the other contractors brought up. We were impressed and excited to work with Earl. However, Earl was not who we actually worked with. Enter Ken. At first, Ken was perfectly likable. He was great with our two dogs when he came over to meet with us, appeared to care about doing a good job for us with this project (which, by the way, cost us a PRETTY penny), and was generally very responsive. Our ask: a 21x26 two car garage, a 3x51 ft walkway with ally access, and a new (smaller) concrete porch. They got right to work tearing down our garage and removing a giant concrete slab covering the entirety of our back yard so we could replace it with a real yard. They then put out wooden posts to outline where they would pour the concrete for our new garage. When my husband and I examined the post placements we saw that they were only about 18 inches from the fence where we were supposed have a 3 ft wide walkway. My husband immediately called Ken to alert him of this, as this is NOT what we asked for. We would have gladly taken a smaller garage if it meant we got our walkway and ally access. Ken did not answer, so we left him a voicemail. A day went by and Ken still had not called us back. We came home from work the next day to find that they had poured concrete without moving the posts and without consulting with us first, or alerting us to the fact that they would not be able to fulfill that particular portion of our contract. So we called Ken again and he made an appointment to meet with us the next morning and take a look. He showed up, acted like it was no big deal, shrugged off our concerns and said they measured to the Pin Survey and that we should take it up with our neighbor, as they are encroaching on our land. Here's the problem: Even IF we took it up with our neighbor.....these guys can't measure to save their life. We would STILL not end up with the 3ft wide walkway we were promised. Best case scenario would could realistically recover like 10 inches, not including the 4 inches we would lose when we moved the fence. There could never have been a 3 ft. wide walkway and when we brought this all up with Ken he called it a MUTUAL MISTAKE. His big concession to make up for his negligence was to not charge us the concrete he could now not pour. In my view, we took the responsibility to notice something was wrong, call them about it when a change could still be made, and then called them AGAIN when our concerns went unaddressed. This is, by definition, a mistake which is NOT mutual. We tried on our end to rectify it. Ken dropped the ball. We now have a really nice two car garage with NO ally access, interior dry wall with a giant boot print on the north wall, a $500 credit...not for his negligence but because (and I quote) I played the "kid card" by mentioning my pregnancy, and a further $672 discount which is basically for the materials he didn't use in the process of not living up to our contract. A whole 2.84% discount on a $41k unfulfilled project. Neat. read more

Called to see if someone could come out and place a bid for concrete slab to be poured. Man who answered the phone was extremely short with answers and seemed as though he didn't have the time of day to send someone out to place a bid on our project. After asking me how much concrete needed to be poured, he said they had a $3500 minimum. I would not want to do business with this company. I would not recommend this business. read more

These guys quoted a friend, then went above the quote. Mislaid the cement, door broke after a month, won't come out for my friend and fix anything laid bricks incorrectly. I rate this a 2 because the follow up warranty and work is not done. The original garage was built very nicely. The concrete work all around the garage is the worst. I called since June 2016 to get them to come out and look at it. Never seen a person. The Concrete is falling away from the garage creating a huge slant, that is very dangerous. I found his company on Angie's list and their bid was one of the three that I received. Earl came out and gave me the bid. He seemed very knowledgeable and listened to our needs (and our budget). He had some very helpful suggestions. We were considering getting an over-sized 2-car garage but ended up having them do a 3-car because it didn't cost much more for that option. Their price seemed very reasonable so we hired them. We worked with both Ken and Earl throughout the process. Both were helpful and easy to work with. They pulled all the permits and did everything they said they were going to do. They just finished the garage and it looks great! I am hoping to have them do a home addition soon. read more

Since we were building right up to the property line, we had to do a survey which showed the property line was not where we thought it was. That required a redesign of the garage. I would definitely use this company again because: #1 When they were finished and putting my fence and gate back together, they put the latch on backwards. I called them to come and fix it, and they promptly did. BUT, it turns out that it wasn't on backwards after all. So, I called (apologetically) and they came and fixed it again. #2 More recently, the shingles on the back porch patio are starting to deteriorate. So, I called to see if they were still under warranty and could be fixed for free - 4 1/2 years after they were installed. I was told that they would be coming out to fix it for free in the near future. This company has been nothing but friendly and courteous since I started working with them! read more

I never write reviews, good or bad. But we contracted Affordable Garages to work on two large projects at our home as well as rental property. Upon viewing the finished product, it was clearly not "finished" Not painted and exposed cardboard on the footings. When I called to voice my complaint, I was told, "how dare I ask to take food off of his wife and his table." I then asked him if he could look me in the eye and tell me he would be satisfied with this finished product if it was his home and he said, "Quite frankly I would never live in a house like that or put something up like that in the first place." Wow, unreal. I have NEVER in my like been treated like that as a customer or treated one of my customers in that fashion.
