The thing that knocks this company down is the owner. He promises things and does not remember what he says. He referred to my husband and I as" you people". Very rude and unprofessional when you call him out on his character and in things he previously stated. If he does not like what you say - he hangs up or walks away. Nice when he wants your business, fair, pricing but nasty when you remind him of what he previously said to you regarding the job you hired them to do. I had a great experience working with John and the team at Affordable Home Services. We used them to do a pretty big project (2nd floor extension, bathroom refinishing, and entry room rebuild) and they knocked it out of the park. We got multiple bids on this job and theirs was the most competetive. When you go with a cheaper bid there is a little bit of a fear that maybe the contractor will cut coreners, but not Affordable Home Services! Their crafstmanship was amazing; even during our inspections the town inspectors frequetnly commented on the quality of their work. They did my porch roof and installed a door. Jim told me to wait for him at a specific time for he was very busy. When I called his office to get started with the work, obviously he told the secretary Andrea to dismiss me and sent me a text stating, "I can't help you". His worker solicited the job. I refused to hire him for loyalty and security reasons. There was no reason for Jim to be disrespectful or to show no honor for the privilege of patronizing his business. Affordable Home Services provided a detailed description of the work to be provided in writing. They followed up via telephone to let me know when the work would be performed (it was scheduled for exactly 1.5 days within 1.5 weeks from the day of the estimate). This allowed me to move the cars out of the garage and driveway. The day the work was going to be performed a dumpster was parked in my driveway and the work crew covered my bushes and grass with perforated tarp (this kept the bushes looking fresh and the grass green). Jim came to my house early in the morning and reminded me of exactly what was going to happen and how long it would take. He is very personable and I appreciated exchanging pleasantries while he provided assurance of everything being performed. The crew worked well and paid close attention to the details. The roof was installed in 1-day and then the gutters were installed the day after. The crew cleaned up everything and even used a high powered magnet on wheels to ensure any loose pieces of metal were collected. The dumpster was removed later on the 2nd day. Jim was there in the evening after the jobs were completed to assess the installation and ensure no scrap was remaining on the ground. I don't normally review online, but I am so happy we chose Affordable Home Services for our addition on our home in West Caldwell in 2010 that I had to make an exception. During the course of the project John and his team were professional, reliable and a pleasure to work with in every aspect. The price they quoted was the price we paid; even though the original plans changed slightly, we were never asked to pay more for the additional work. The job was finished one time and better than expected; we trusted the team so much we even went on vacation and John sent us pictures to keep us informed of the progress. Some time after the addition, our newly installed balcony began to leak; we called John who returned immediately to resolve the issue, and even fixed a couple of other small things he noticed while he was there that were never part of the job. The balcony proved to be an issue a second time, and John immediately returned to fix it again, this time ripping the whole thing out and reinstalling it to ensure we never were inconvenienced again; all along maintaining a great attitude and never making me feel bad for calling. Knowing that we were in such great hands not only during the project; but also covered anytime down the line should something come up, makes me feel lucky we choose an established complany like Affordable Home Services.
