I used this service for the first time this year and was very pleased. Just as his advertisement says - the owner does answer the phone. He gave me a quote over the phone and said he could be out in the morning. The next morning they called when they were on their way and 2 young men arrived and took care of everything. One was the owner's son (I cant remember his name) but he was very pleasant and professional. I scheduled for a drop of a dumpster last week. Drop off went fine and we had it for a week. They show up early on the 7th day and haul everything away. Great! The next morning I see an email from them that shows we have been charged an additional $180 on top of the $300 we just spent. Apparently the two small box springs (smaller than twin) that we placed inside were an additional $90 each. I call immediately and the person I spoke with had a major attitude. He told me that this information "is all over the website". I did not see it all over the website. In fact, I had to hunt for it after my phone call with him. I checked website before I called. On the main page where it shows the price for a dumpster there is no mention of box springs. Under "services" tab, I read about what I can and can not put in the dumpster. Again- NO MENTION OF BOX SPRING. I actually took screen shots to show that's it's not. He also tells me that he "gets calls like this all the time, so he's going to just stop offering to even take mattresses or box springs all together" If you get calls like this all the time, there's 2 things you need to do. Make it extremely clear to customers what costs more on website AND in person.. so you look like a business that has integrity. "I get calls like this all the time" doesn't help your case at all.. it makes the company look and sound like a careless entity. Who wants to do business with that type of attitude and carelessness? I wouldn't use this service again based on the interaction with the guy on the phone, who I presume to be the owner. A dumpster that was "on sale" for 300 bucks now costs me almost 500. Also, when they picked it up, they did so early in the morning with no communication whatsoever. It would've been nice to touch base... especially if you know it'll cost me more money. The dumpster was open when they arrived and the two box springs were entirely visible. If you "get calls like this all the time" maybe clarify that the customer knows extra charges are coming, especially two weeks before Christmas. This is essentially a review about the etiquette I think this company lacks.. Communication is key.. I would've been happy otherwise if I didn't feel like I got robbed. read more

When I called initially, it felt a little expensive for half a truck (I had assumed that all of my content would fit in a half truck... this was not the case), but the way these guys came in and and cleaned up so fast it was definitely worth every penny. I called to make an appointment for the removal of a couch and two recliners. I wa quoted a good price, and we made an appointment for 2 days later between 11 and 2. They gave me a call to let me know they were on their way and would be here in 30 minutes, which I truly appreciate. Being disabled, getting a call before anyone comes is VERY helpful. they arrived on time. I pointed to the items I wanted them to take. They have me even a cheaper price than I was quoted. OUTSTANDING- five stars is not enough. when I called for a quote Jason answered right away and scheduled my pick up within a couple days. I received a confirmation call on my voicemail the day before - which is always appreciated- and I also got a call 20 minutes before they were to arrive ON TIME on the scheduled day. I'm writing a review of my family's experience using Affordable Junk Removal to rent a dumpster to aid in cleaning out my mother's house before a move. AJR was recommended to my mother by a friend, so she called them and reserved a 15 yard dumpster. It was explained to her that the dumpster would cost $299, and would be dropped off at her home for 7 days. Drop off was largely pain free, although they could not give me a better estimate than "sometime between 7 AM and 3 PM" even when I called the day before drop off. Oh well. Our troubles began after the dumpster was rolled away. When we received our bill, my mom noticed her card was charged a $187 fee for using the dumpster to throw away a box spring. $187!? We were floored. At no point in any conversation did anyone tell us not that we could not dispose of a box spring. Not when we first booked the dumpster, not when I called to check on delivery time, not when the young man dropped off or picked up the dumpster or any time in between. Obviously, we would have removed it if it was going to cost us nearly $200. On a phone call, the owner said that this information was "all over his website." I checked, and it isn't. The word "box spring" doesn't appear once on their homepage or services page. Additionally, no one ever told us to review the website for items we cannot dispose of. I checked their Frequently Asked Questions website and found this: "Q: What can I NOT put in a dumpster? A: Gas, Oil, Propane, Paint, Brush, Dirt, Hazardous Materials, or anything that was once living and breathing! If you have an item you are unsure of, give us a call and we will let you know." Wow. No mention of box springs! This is an unfair business practice. I could have easily disposed of the boxspring on my own had I known. To charge me $187 without any warning is deceitful and despicable. I would never recommend using this company and advise anyone considering them to steer clear. read more

I'm not sure why the following happened, given all of the good reviews, but it did. We called Affordable Junk Removal and asked about using their service. We were quoted $175. We thought that was a bit high, given the small amount of junk but agreed to the job being done by Affordable Junk Removal at that price. (Of note: they never came by to physically view the junk to be hauled. Mostly it consisted of a very small and lightweight futon, a few stackable fabric lawn chairs, and a folded full-sized bed frame.) So they arrived on the day and timeframe promised BUT they then informed us it would cost us $325 plus an additional charge to haul off the bed frame. No, this was not at all acceptable and we told them as much, explaining the quote we were given. They then called their office and managed to bring the charge down to $225, which included the box springs. That was still $50 more than their original quote but we agreed to paying that amount and they took the junk away. Their hauling service was fine and timely. They left no mess and removed the junk very quickly, so I give a good grade for that aspect of the job. However, the person providing the quote needs to make sure that the team comes to look over the junk in order to give an accurate quote. Given the small amount of junk we had, I most certainly would have passed on using their service if they had quoted $325 to start with. Honestly, being given an incorrect quote has made me uncertain about calling them again for their services in the future, I'm sorry to say, despite the very good work provided by their haulers. read more

I needed to remove a 2nd floor bedroom worth of furniture: twin bed, dresser, chest of drawers, 10 boxes of books, two computer towers and general crap PLUS the dreaded fold-out sleeper couch. When I called I was advised to check my town's price to take a twin mattress and box spring because they would have to charge $90. The town charges $44 so GOOD ADVICE. They arrived on time, were very careful not to harm the walls and doorways, worked quickly and efficiently. From their conversation I assume they were two veterans. It became time for my mother in-law to move into assisted living and sell their home. The family has owned the house since 1926. My father in-law was a pack rat, saving god knows what for the eventuality that some day he may use it. The property consisted of three buildings, the house, a workshop/3 car garage and a greenhouse. I got a reminder call yesterday about the appointment and time frame, then got a couple of calls this morning from Mike to indicate his real time status today for the pickup, communication is outstanding. I've now used this outfit twice for my needs. The first time was a while back, I had a bunch of those green "Bagsters" from WasteManagement and when I saw how much it was going to cost to have them taken away, I called Affordable. Confirmed the website details on the phone and magically one day I left for work with 4 full bagsters in the front yard and came home to it all gone - and at a great rate. These guys are no joke about doing all the work for you! I just also rented a dumpster from them for a large project I'm doing. Again, no gimmicks, set and upfront rate setup, brought the dumpster over and put it right where I asked. One important note about this - THEY HAD WOOD TO PROTECT MY DRIVEWAY!!!! This blew my mind, most rental companies could care less about your property, but Affordable actually had wood blocks for under the rear and front to keep it from damaging my driveway. Huge plus! Pricing is beyond fair, paid the dumpster rate for the first ton, then paid for the amount over a ton additional... and Affordable doesn't price the overage by the half ton, so you don't pay for more than you used - I paid for an additional .11 tons - yes, .11 (as in 11/100ths of a ton). How much more fair can you be? Again, everything straight forward, all the people are responsive and really nice, makes me want to do business with these guys - plus they are a local small business. We wanted to give the business to a local guy and I wish we had explored further, We were given prices on the phone and then different prices after the dumpster was collected. They called us to collect an additional 180 on top of the 399 they had already charged us for.
