Affordable? YES? Reliable? Eh... - The good: Hands down Affordable Locksmith offers the best prices I could find: a good 30-50% less than what other locksmiths would charge[1]. - The not-so-good: I needed to change two cylinders in my new apartment, but unfortunately they stood me up. Twice. When they didn't show up the first time, I called them and the person on the phone said that they had no record of my appointment. Great. The second time the same person on the phone recognized he forgot about it, and sent somebody right away. When they finally came, the person who changed the cylinders was very fast, and even taught me how to do it, so hopefully next time I can do it by myself. They also gave me an extra-discount given their repeated fuck-ups, something I certainly appreciated. Given their super-competitive prices, I would still recommend them. I really appreciate yelpers like bridget e. that write helpful and succinct reviews. So following her suggestions, we gave Affordable Locksmith a call and were not disappointed. I tried calling a few places prior and they were charging exorbitant fees. I said to myself, "I need to change professions b/c locksmiths make some damn good money!" This company was professional, fast and courteous. It took them about 10 minutes to exchange out a cylinder ($55) and including tax, the job came to under $60. Other locksmiths (or locksharks) were charging double that amount. If ever in a jam, I will definitely call them again. ** I learnt that my lock is a Mortise lock which costs over $600! I called these guys after one of my tenants recommended them (when she locked herself out of her apartment). I needed the front door for the building to be changed after constantly having problems. I was told by the lady on the phone that Mohammed would be there in twenty minutes. Aside from the fact that we have the same name, I felt even more comfortable when he showed up in fifteen minutes. He recommended that I changed the Adams Rite lock mechanism for the front door lock to the building and I went one step further and told him to change the cylinder as well. He quoted me at $180 total which is cheaper than what most locksmiths charge. He only uses original Adams Rite mechanisms and American made cylinders. When he was finished, everything looked and felt better than the original made in China lock that came with the door. I told him to go ahead and change another cylinder and mechanism next door which occasionally gives me trouble. He went ahead and quickly installed it. He also advised me with recommendations for maintenance to prolong the life of my locks. The whole time, we're laughing and making good small talk about life in the locksmith world. He had enough keys for both cylinders for my tenants and myself. Later that night, my tenants text me to thank me about how great the door locks and opens. #winning All in all, I've never had such a good experience with a locksmith. I've usually dealt with overpriced locksmiths that only sell poor quality equipment. These guys were awesome! I had no idea if there was a locksmith nearby and when I looked on Yelp, it looked like all of the places nearby were already closed for the night (it was only 7:15 pm on a Monday at this point). Checked this place out on here, called, and they sent someone over to be within 20 minutes. The charge was $65, but the guy Mohammed (sp?) was so nice and got there so quick that I wasn't even concerned. I would DEFINITELY use these guys again (but hoping I don't have to!)! read more

Thank God for this locksmith. I locked myself inside my parents house while they were away and after many harried calls to my parents where they insisted I was using the wrong key (I mean REALLY mom and dad, I am NOT an IDIOT), I quickly yelped "locksmith" and this came up. My key broke off in a lock, he was able to save this lock without replacing the whole thing which could have been very costly. I will only be using this company from now on. Great group of guys. Had an issue with my 2007 Nisson . I broke my key in the ignition an could not get it out. All businesses I encountered were not interested or could not assist me with my problem including Nissan that wanted to inform me that the replacement part wasn't available for my car anymore. So disappointed with the situation, I decided to check these guys out an I'm glad I did. An individual by the name "Tony " took on the task, an despite a three-hour job and many parts of the vehicle that was discouraging , he still stay persistent and informed me that he was not going to leave me empty-handed, and sure enough the job was completed with three new copies handled and all done under $260. Compared to Nissan the actual manufacturer that referred me to another Locksmith Company that offered to do the job possibly for as low as $650. I was in a jam (literally) after my faulty apartment lock finally gave in. My dad actually purchased a new cylinder and spindle but couldn't get it to work. So I did my research and affordable seemed the best so I called. (This was a Sunday afternoon) The gentleman on the phone was very helpful and said he would send someone out within the half hour. By the time I got dressed to go to the bank (as they only take cash) someone arrived. The guy fixed the lock and was in and out in about 20 mins. There have been security issues in my building so I wanted to get a deadbolt installed on my metal door. I called yesterday at 3pm and he was here today at 10am to install a deadbolt. He was nice, prompt, and did a good job. Only complaint is that the girl on the phone quoted me $100 for a deadbolt in a metal door (which did seem incredibly cheap based on what I've heard around Brooklyn) and he told me it was $150. He apologized for her mistake, said he couldn't do it for that little, checked with her on the phone (she of course insisted that she never told me $100, but I am not hard of hearing). He gave me an upgrade on the lock to a more expensive one that matched the color of my door handle for my trouble. I would use them again! read more

Being a middle aged guy and very handy when it come to doing things around the house, but working 24/7 and needed a deadbolt changed and I could not be bothered. I have dealt with a few locksmiths before and from past experiences knew that Id better be ready to deal with some numbskull that does a terrible job, charges a small fortune and then Id regret that I didn't do it myself... Well that not the case when Mohamed from Affordable showed up at my apartment. He was polite, prompt, knowledgeable, informative and professional. He had my Lowes pre purchased Kwikset deadbolt installed in no time flat. Mohamed notice that my door was not square. it did not close as easily as it should, and with my elderly mother visiting soon It needed to be a effortless as possible. He suggested a fix, a new hinge to square the door. Well I took him up on that and am I happy that I did. My door now closes easily, no more yanking on the door to close or open it. He also brought to my attention the made in China 10.00 mortise door knob/lock set that was originally installed on my door that is a problem, Hey I live in Brooklyn all of the prewar apartment buildings have them, so dont judge. I decided to wait on that, but when I decide to change it out you can bet your ass Im calling Mohamed at Affordable. Price was as expected for service rendered and this time I don't feel ripped off. I called Affordable Locksmith in the evening, after normal business hours and the locksmith was at my house within the hour. I had purchased my own lock earlier that day, but it turned out the lock would not work for my door so he sold me another lock which was less expensive and less heavy-duty. I was happy with the job he did, but not happy with that lock. It just felt flimsy and it felt like the knob would come off every time I locked the door. So I called them back the next day and they sent the guy out again. He took the lock off the door and put on the lock I bought and gave me a refund for the lock he sold me the night before. The locksmith was right in that the lock didn't fit the door properly but after a visit from the welder, all is well. I have a heavy duty lock for my heavy iron door and now I feel much more secure. These guys are professional, they know what they're doing and they are fair and don't try to cheat you. I would definitely use them again. read more

Okay, where do I start! This by far is the best locksmith in Brooklyn or manhattan. Muhumad was the the most talented and quick worker I ever had the pleasure to work for me ! When he got to the job there was nothing in this old brownstone in Brooklyn that you could predict do to the age of everything on these old doors. Yet he installed all the locks in a quick time, and the quality of the work was perfect! My whole estimate that he wrote for me had to be changed because of the age of this building and he was so fare with the price even though he had to do twice the amount of work! I had a jerk jam both of my lock cylinders with toothpicks, and could not get into my apartment. Found Affordable Locksmith on Yelp, called them and in half hour they showed up at my apartment. Unfortunately, both cylinders had to be drilled out, but I feel I was charged a fair price for an after hours call, and Eli was a pleasure to deal with. This company is top notch. I called this morning with my request and my locks were changed the same day. My apt lock was older than dirt, and needed to be replaced. Mohammed was super prompt (estimate was 40min and he arrived in 30min), helpful, courteous, and funny. He was fast with installing my new deadbolt lock for extra security and to stop my door from shaking every time someone enters the apartment building. He's also thorough. He broke a screw off in the door frame but made sure to correct it before leaving. Last but not least, this company is super affordable. I used a locksmith when I lived in Manhattan and was charged nearly $200 just for a regular cylinder replacement when I locked myself out. I was charged way less with this company even though I wasn't even locked out. Use them. I promise you won't regret it. The office team was attentive and ensured that they called me before Muhammad arrived and he was was just as efficient as everyone said. He did a walk though and reviewed every door and ensured that my our way in and out of the place would be safe. Very prompt and professional. I called at 2:30 and was told someone would be there is 30 minutes. At 3 someone was outside. I changed the locks on my screen door and garage door. The technician was very efficient and courteous. I purchased a lock from homedepot for the screen door. They provided the cylinder for the garage door. Total cost was $125. They guy who helped me was very prompt (came within 30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon) and knowledgeable. Getting my cylinder replaced cost $65. Since I had lost my keys, I didn't need an entirely new lock. He said that getting the entire lock switched ranged in price from $250 to $500. read more
