I was scheduled for the following day (Friday). Today, I received a confirmation call. I also received a call when the plumber was enroute. Ernest arrived at the requested time. He was professional, knowledgable and approachable. He explained the different options and the pricing. He corrected both issues quickly and explained everything very well. Extremely happy with the level of service and would recommend this company.

I called Pipe Wrench Plumbing to get an estimate to repair or replace the backflow preventer (BFP)…read moreon my irrigation system. I had used Pipe Wrench in the past to replace a water heater. At the time, I felt I was overcharged, but I needed the work done quickly because the heater failed during a very cold winter. Despite that experience, I decided to give them another opportunity. They were able to send a technician out the next day. He inspected the BFP and told me that the parts needed to repair it were on backorder for approximately six months. I had explained that I needed it repaired quickly because it had failed an LCUB inspection and I was told my water could be shut off if it wasn't corrected within the required timeframe. The technician said they could replace the BFP immediately. I asked about the price difference between repairing and replacing it. I was quoted approximately $1,500 to repair it (assuming the parts became available) or $2,081 to replace it. I was also told that, after the repair, Pipe Wrench could perform the required backflow testing and submit the results to LCUB for another $250. I was honestly shocked by the pricing, but I didn't have anything to compare it to. I asked them to send me the quote and then contacted a small, local irrigation company for a second opinion. They quoted me $730 to completely replace the BFP. I went with them, and they completed the replacement within two days. I still needed the required testing, so I contacted $35 Backflow Testing, which I found through Yelp. They came out within two days, tested the system, and submitted the information to LCUB. Just as their name suggests, the cost was $35. I mentioned my experience with Pipe Wrench to the backflow tester, and he said he wasn't surprised and had heard similar stories from other customers. I understand that Pipe Wrench is a larger company and that there are costs associated with operating a larger plumbing business. However, when I can get an entire BFP replaced for $730 and professionally tested for $35, compared with Pipe Wrench's $1,500 repair estimate or $2,081 replacement estimate, plus $250 for testing, the difference is difficult to justify. To be fair, every Pipe Wrench technician I've dealt with has been friendly, professional, and punctual. My issue is strictly with the pricing. Based on this experience, I won't be using Pipe Wrench again and unfortunately cannot recommend them. I strongly suggest getting a second opinion before agreeing to a major repair or replacement with them.

That fall, I spent another $1300 to replace gas pipe under the house and add a gas line to my kitchen. Then in winter I had 2 old windows replaced for $1000. All 3 projects were great. This year I had to replace my entire HVAC unit and ductwork in the house because my furnace was ancient and going to start failing. $9500 for a new furnace and AC unit (the one they put in wouldn't be compatible with the new Carrier unit) and all new ductwork. Took over a week to install. Had to request the installer to tie up the ducts in the attic as well as in my closet and cover up the hole in the floor with some sheeting. The next day, water was pouring from my son's ceiling. The guy forgot to pull a tab to start the pump. Had to replace the electrical outlet and light switch in the attic (located on the attic floor). Then I was rearranging my attic as everything was pushed to one side so they could install the unit and the AC wouldn't come back on. I realized nobody ever left a manual. They had to come out and restart the unit and reset my thermostat. Now I have another gas leak under my house. Had HEP come take a look as they replaced gas line earlier. Quoted me $1700 to replace the rest of the piping to the meter. I had LUB come take a look and they brought in their guy. HEP didn't use pipe tape to secure their connections. I spent $200. Also was notified by LUB that all of the ductwork under my house that is brand new is laying on the ground and not secured to the underside of the floors like it should be. I called HEP to talk to a manager. They took my name and # and said I will be contacted.... We will see. I gave my second star simply because Will (who keeps coming out to correct things with much head shaking) is great. Over $16,000 spent with them in the last 3 yrs. I hate to say that I don't think I will be going back. Not one offer of concession.

This used to shock me, but not anymore, because 4 out of 4 times, they've been exactly on time. I had the pleasure of meeting Cameron and Dawn today. Both were very professional and didn't try to upsell me on anything. Dawn was very personable and professional, which is hard to find that combination in businesses these days. Cameron is an impressive young man who was professional as well. He was training Dawn, so, I didn't have as much interaction with him. But the interaction I had was great. What I like about this company is they'll text you when they're showing up with a picture of the poison who is coming out. That's a great safety feature. I'm happy to do business with them, and I look forward to doing business again with them in the future. You guys are awesome!!!!!

Despite the fact that I believe myself to be intelligent, I am a sixty-eight-year-old single woman…read morethat was taken advantage of by Champion Comfort Experts. My July water bill spiked so I knew there was a leak somewhere. After checking all the indoor probable culprits and finding no issue, I discovered the ground out front very wet at the water shut off valve. When I called Champion I even said that I suspected I needed a new shut off valve. The Champion technicians came to the same conclusion and with my approval, they proceeded to install a new turn off valve. Once that was completed they told me that there was still a leak of unknown origin. After conferring phone calls and further digging in my front yard they determined that the leak must be under the slab of my house and that the likely resolve would include tearing up concrete of my front patio and likely flooring and walls within my home. When they left that day I had no water, an open mess in my front yard, and absolutely no solution from Champion, PLUS they wouldn't leave without $1197.33 payment for the new valve. The next day I wrangled a technician from another company to take a look. What I'm about to tell you is so sophomoric, it's hard not to laugh at the stupidity. Instead of removing the faulty value or installing the new around the faulty valve, abandoning it completely, the Champion Techs installed the new valve directly onto the old leaking one. So every time they tried to turn on the water it continued to leak. Adding insult to injury, thus far I have not been refunded my $1197.33. Despite receiving an email stating I would receive a full refund, I never have, not one cent, and they have blocked my phone number from calling their business. Sincerely, Seriously Screwed Old Lady
