I selected Affordable Tours blindly on a Sunday after researching available Ireland tours, and received an immediate phone call response answering most of my questions and pointing me towards additional information. We selected a bus tour of Ireland mostly because it fit into a window of opportunity for us, but the tour company also had good reviews. One thing that we noticed is that the tour started in Dublin, circled the island, but did not conclude back in Dublin. Everything stoped on a Tuesday morning, over 50 miles from Dublin. I inquired about this before signing up and was told that it would not be a problem, since they would have plenty of time to arrange something. Later, when I contacting CIE Tours, the actual tour company, about transit back to Dublin, I received no response. At the beginning of the actual tour, I asked the tour guide the same question, and he also responded that we would figure that out later. About 7 days into the tour, he had the same response. While some in our group has vouchers for transport back to the airport, not all did, and many were scrambling to find some sort of transport from a remote castle to Dublin. The tour operator and agents did nothing to facilitate anything. Eventually we reserved a taxi, at the cost of $220, and left early in the day, since we weren't assured of a taxi at all if we waited until later. After some back-and-forth with the upper management (and a review) at Affordable Tours we were able to get a refund for the cost of the taxi. I highly recommend that you do considerable research into every aspect of these (or any) tours. Generally, people going on tours with groups do so because they do not know how to deal with all of the various complications, or even what they may be, but in the end, it is still all up to you to know. Make sure all your questions are answered and all aspects of transportation are entirely covered. Know exactly what is covered and what is not, and get everything in writing. read more

I booked a trip in 2020 to Europe with my granddaughter. Due to covid we were not able to travel. Affordable Tours stated that they would credit my account in the amount of$6,199.58. Due to a health issue, I am no longer able to go. I sent a letter from my doctor, dated March 1, 2022 to affordable tours and was told they would get the refund approved. I had no luck in 2022 and now 2023, Affordable Tours doesn't even show my confirmation number. Beware of this company. If for any reason you have to modify your plans or ask for a refund you will be very sorry. After several attempts from the time of the Covid restrictions to now I have had no help. I thought that booking thru an agency was supposed to make things easier, but not so much with these guys. My planning started in January 2020 before Covid hit for a May European river cruise. The CSR I dealt with seemed nice enough, but failed to tell me some very important information. She also booked us for the wrong trip, got our names completely wrong and then wasn't very responsive to correct the problems. Whether she quit or what I don't know but I ended up with another rep that was very rude. I ended up working with anyone that would respond to the general email. They were bad too, not knowing information on cancelling the travel insurance I had bought (now due to Covid) and were just going to cancel my entire trip when I was very clear that I wanted to leave my credit in place (as Viking River Cruises was offering a 25% bonus for doing this). I had to contact the travel insurance company myself and handle that end of it as I never got any of the requested information from the Affordable Tours rep on this. Now, fast forward to April on 2021 when I again had a new CSR to deal with. Again, seemed nice enough, but they can't actually book anything for you. You are put on hold as they call the actual company, in my case Viking. I could have done that myself and saved a middle man. I received my confirmation number fairly quick via email and had been told that the confirmation number for Viking would be sent within an hour or so. Two days later, still nothing. I had to request my confirmation number two times before I received it. I also told the CSR that I had a credit with the travel insurance company (this is the insurance company that they use) and that the insurance needed to be added on to my trip during our initial call. A week later still not done. I had to request again and then received a separate reservation just for that. Why she could not add it on is beyond me. So on my actual reservation, it shows I don't have travel insurance. Don't waste your time with these guys. You will get better service booking directly with the suppliers yourself and the $150 on board credit they give you isn't worth your aggravation. The pricing they offer is the same as booking directly so why bother? Just don't. UPDATE: With in a day of posting my review I received a call from Affordable Tours. The woman I spoke to was very nice and had thoroughly checked into my situation before she called me. She was able to get information for me and answers to my questions. Did give me some information that I definitely needed that the rep did not. Hopefully all will be smooth sailing now. read more

First time dealing with Affordable Tours. NOT HAPPY! We put our deposit down $175..00 x2 for an Alaskan cruise. We wanted a ocean view balcony. Our agent gave us our room number for our September sailing. I called Holland America to get more info on our room. I was shocked to find out, it is has obstructed view. I was told there is a metal WALL in front of our balcony. H.A.L. told us we would have to stand to get a view. This is NOT what we signed up for, and we are extremely disappointed. Booked Essential Britain with for a Globus tour with Affordable Tours because it offered a discount. DON'T do it!!! My Affordable Tour rep, someone named Vivian, was always out of the office, I never spoke with her only received form emails. It was difficult to get any questions answered both Globus and Affordable Tours pointed fingers back at each other implying neither was responsible. When I called, I would be on hold for 15-20 minutes only to be put on hold again. Both representatives of Globus Tanya and David, were unable to confirm an excursion that I purchased through their website - seemed like a ripoff. Horrible experience! Booked a three day cruise for my Mother's 75th Birthday. Also took her 72 year old sister. Jeff our consultant booked everything with a room with a balcony view for three. When I got to the Royal Caribbean Cruise I was shocked at our accommodations. Jeff booked a room for us that had a king size bed and a bunk bed for 3 women...one 75, the other 72, and I'm 50. Just took MSC Cruise booked through affordabletours.com and they charged few hundred extra for ocean view. Got a window with view blocked completely by a boat while those from our group who paid no extra for inside room, got unblocked ocean view. When we complained to MSC cruise on the ship, they asked us to contact travel agent at affordable tour. When we called the agent, he said that it is not him but MSC cruise we should complain to since he does not know the room we will be getting. He further mentioned that ocean view is not guaranteed but there is no disclaimer, and he has no way of knowing the room location which is not true as per MSC cruise staff. He further said that we have no way to file a complaint and while he created a complaint ticket, he can't share it with me. read more

I was 1st quoted a guarantee ocean view when I requested an ocean view. My next quote was very good, but I had concerns. We had only sailed on Costa Cruise Lines once before and the rate quoted was for the Diamond level. Even when I emailed back to double check if the correct fare was quoted my agent replied yes. It has been a difficult process dealing with multiple people from this company. They did not placing a hold for a planned cruise, so we need to scramble the next day. They sold us on travel insurance and misled us on what it would cover. We do not travel often and believed them when they said they they would cover 75% if we wanted to cancel. During the years we have recommended your website to many friends and relatives. The site design makes it easy to navigate among choices & itineraries, answering most questions one might have when deciding on a trip. Way back in 2002 we worked with Marilyn Minke booking a wonderful Globus trip to Portugal, Spain & Morocco. It turned out that we were her first ever client, but one would never have known because she was so very professional. As a former travel agent myself I appreciated this. We experienced how enjoyable an escorted tour can be. Later we traveled to Turkey with Trafalgar, again with Marilyn in charge of things -- she was now office manager at Affordable. For our next trip we are working with Trena Holloway for a Cosmos trip in Europe, and we learned that Marilyn has retired. I've saved for 5 years to take a trip for my 50th birthday. I chose a 'reputable'' company that apparently uses AffordabeTours.com to book the trip details. Never in my life have I been so confused, disappointed and frustrated in the customer service and tactics of a company that I wanted to give my money to! They have invisible procedures, unknown to the customer and imaginary 72 hour policies to ''approve'' your trip, and you can not ask for help from another travel agent, (or accidentally click a button that sends your info to another agent)! You'll get your hand slapped, and told they can no longer 'assist' you, as did agents Rachel and Amalia did, and eventually due to their chaos and drama, my trip was Denied! This also meant I could not benefit from the discounts that were available to me before they wasted my time. Don't even bother with contacting a customer service manager, they'll basically repeat what the agents said, as did Naomi did me. Basically because I accidentally 'played outside the imaginary lines', clicked submit more than once, I was in the wrong. I have proof that Paige stated on 1/9 at 2:21 pm ET that she could No Longer Assist me due to the reasons stated above. Please also note that AFTER Amalia Denied my trip on 1/9/ at 5:29pm ET, Rachel emailed me a ''friendly reminder'' on 1/10 at 5:21PM telling me I needed to complete my booking details (i.e. down payment)! Before I contacted the primary company, I spent several days researching and planning for this trip, only to deal with AffordableTours.com, who in my experience, is Not about the customer, but only about who gets credit for the customer's trip. I have never used this touring company before, but decided it would be a good idea to use one for Greece. My agent was very nice, patient, and helpful throughout the booking process; however, I was not impressed with the lack of information when it came to accommodations. The tour was being booked via Affordable Tours with Globus and it required a $250 deposit for each person ($500 total). I was not aware that the deposit was non-refundable, but I will take responsibility for not looking further into this. My issue was accommodation for the cruise portion of the trip. I was asked what type of room I would like while cruising. I requested a balcony suite. I was then told later that Globus was unable to secure a balcony suite, and I could try to request it again 3 months before departure. Until then, the best they could do was change my interior room to an exterior room. I did not understand why I could not reserve a balcony suite, since the trip was not until June of 2019. I also felt like for the amount of money I was paying (5k), I should be able to get what was requested since it was so far in advance. If I would have known I would not be able to reserve the requested accommodations, then I wouldn't have put a deposit down. I started to do my own research, and I found that if you book directly through Celestyal Olympia, you can obtain a balcony suite and add on excursions for less than the total cost of the package that was provided. I questioned the agent about the price difference/accommodations since it seemed like I could book what I actually requested on my own. He was unable to provide any information as it was sponsored by Globus. I felt a little cheated and I did not understand what I was paying for if I could get the same trip at a cheaper price on my own. I decided to just keep my reservation, and stick it out since I put my deposit down already. After doing more research on my own, I found negative reviews concerning Globus Greece tours. It seemed that Globus was new to Greece tours and did not do it well. At that point, I thought it would be best to search for another touring company. I found a different touring company who was able to provide a different itinerary which provided exactly what I wanted for a cheaper price. I decided to cancel my reservation with Affordable Tours and lose my deposit. But I feel like it was worth it to get exactly what I wanted. read more

We booked Highlights of Greece Escape with 7 day cruise through Affordable Tours with Globus as the operator. This trip was mutually booked by our friends also at the same time for the same price. We traveled together and when we boarded the cruise ship we were assigned a completely obstructed view cabin while our friends got a nice larger cabin without any obstructions. We had to endure 7 days in a cramped cabin looking at a lifeboat, while our friends had a nice large cabin and a nice view. We complained to Affordable Tours, The Globus tour director and the cruise ship but were not given any considerations, We are unlikely to deal with Affordable Tours or Globus again. read more

Seven Countries, Venice & Paris, We booked this tour through Affordabletours.com because the price was good. We wanted to experience a "taste" of multiple European countries to see which ones we would like to go back and visit for a longer vacation in the future. This trip pretty much gave us what we wanted and expected.... EXCEPT for Paris. Paris should NOT be listed in the title of this vacation package. Time in Paris was so very limited that it was a HUGE disappointment! By the time you reach Paris, on the very last day of your tour, there is no real time to spend seeing any of the sites. Upon arrival, we had about 2 hours of free time to eat lunch, walk to Notre Dame for photos and purchase souvenirs. The walk to Notre Dame took most of that time, so shopping was pretty much just grab something to say you shopped in Paris. They offered a city tour (that also included a farewell dinner), which we signed up for at an extra cost of $67 per person ($134 as a couple), but it was so fast that you barely had time to take any photos of the monuments that were pointed out. Most of the photos had to be taken through the bus window, which was difficult if you were on the opposite side of the coach from the attraction that you wanted to photograph. There were round seat belt warning signs stuck in the middle of the windows, so when you tried to take a photo across the aisle, it was impossible to avoid the sticker in your frame. Plus, the USB ports were in the ceiling of the bus, so you also had other passenger's charging cables in your photos. There were only 2 stops during this city tour, one at the Arc de Triomphe, which did allow for some good photos and the other was several blocks from the Eiffel Tower. As you can imagine, the photos were poor and the disappointment was HUGE. My first time in Paris and NO photos AT the Eiffel Tower! Overall this was a great trip for the cost and provided exactly what we wanted, except for feeling shortchanged Paris. I would suggest that they add another day to the tour so that you get to spend a reasonable amount of time in this beautiful city .... Especially since Paris is listed in the title of the tour! That felt misleading. If you choose this tour and have the ability to stay an extra day in Paris, I would STRONGLY recommend that you do. We went a day early and spent an extra day in London, which was GREAT, but I wish we had also booked an extra day in Paris. The farewell dinner was wonderful. Saying goodbye to newly made friends, good food and music. I have seen in many of the reviews that past travelers have complained about the amount of time spent on the bus. You do spend time riding, but how else would you be able to experience 7 countries in this short amount of time? Our tour guide, Britt, was GREAT! She was very knowledgeable, funny and charming. The driver of the coach was Henk. He did a great job in getting us across 7 countries safely and handling our luggage in and out of the coach at overnight hotel stops. The only real overnight stop/luggage issue was that some of the hotels did not have porters for the luggage and you had to take your own luggage to the room. As you can imagine, with 50 people, each with 2 bags, all trying to get on an elevator (several times there was only one or at most 2) at the same time to go to their rooms..... well, it got a little chaotic at times. The hotels were mostly good. They were smaller than what we are accustomed to in the US, but that was to be expected. However, there was one room, in Frankfurt Germany, that was pretty ridiculously small. As in your knees touched the bathroom wall when you were on the toilet and you had to open the shower door to lean over to wash your feet or shave your legs! But hey... it was only one night! WHAT WE DID ALONG the WAY: We booked a full day city tour of London through Viator, which was wonderful. Next we went to Brussels on the EuroStar, a bullet train. That was amazing... beautiful and ohhhhh the chocolates! We made a stop in Boppard Germany and took a river cruise on the Rhine, which was beautiful. We made a stop in Rothenburg Germany. It was a beautiful, picturesque place for shopping and photos. We enjoyed the leisure time there. After spending the night in Frankfurt, we drove through a gorgeous mountain pass to Innsbruck Austria where we visited the Swarovski Crystal Museum. That was great! Next was Venice, which was not a favorite of mine, but we did do a gondola ride... what else are you going to do in Venice, right? The gondola ride stated that we would be serenaded, which consisted of a guy in a different boat from us and we had to try to hear from behind. In my opinion, it was overpriced for what you got. Also, it's worth noting that getting in and out of the Gondola is a little challenging. Maybe you should consider skipping this excursion if you are mobility impaired at all. One lady on our tour fell getting out of the gondola and really hurt her knee. read more

After booking 4 tours through Affordable Tours, and being satisfied, I experienced a consultant who just could not see their own literature and website info. The first quote I got was exactly double their published prices. When I questioned it, I received 4 more answers justifying the error, without paying any attention to what their own company was publishing. When I sent my concerns to "customer service", it was not responded by a management person, but another "consultant" who proceeded to tell me the quote was correct. When I sent them both a link to their own page, nothing! Simply go to AAA travel, Liberty or others, and ask for the 5% discount AT offers. Most will agree to meet the price, and you can deal with real people, face to face, and get satisfaction. A true shame. read more

Yelp doesn't allow negative stars, although if I could, they would deserve it. We booked a trip through Affordable Tours for a cruise, which took months of careful budgeting and planning. Affordable Tours CANCELLED our cruise without notifying us... what kind of travel agency does that?! There was NO INDICATION that our tickets were cancelled. Their rep made an error and canceled it, then either quit or got fired since he's no longer there. We were under the impression our tour was still on, since we got those auto-emails about our "upcoming" trip, excursions, etc. Since we had no idea that it was actually cancelled, we flew out to New Orleans (where the cruise leaves from), stayed overnight, and took a cab the next day to the cruise ship only to find out we no longer had a room booked and the ship was full! Hours of trying to figure out what happened and endlessly explaining that we already paid and have reservations, we had no choice but to re-book our cruise. Lucky for us, miraculously a room opened up and we were able to pay again to board the ship. That's right folks, we had to DOUBLE PAY. I mean, we already FLEW THERE from CA expecting to go on a cruise and didn't have a flight back home to CA for a week! We were hoping Affordable Tours would sort this all out for us and make good for the error. Could you imagine if there were no room left on the ship? That would have been more wasted flights, hotels, cabs, etc. Long story short, they did not try to help us and still have not compensated us for their mistake. Customer service is a joke. Maybe we won't get our money or time back, but at least I can save some future souls from this horrific company. I do not recommend Affordable Tours. read more

Causing a real problem getting rides home. We got almost no information in advanced but they sure wanted their money months up front Who know we could get seats on the airplane way in advance well I just happened to call the airlines. I thought using a travel consultant was to provide information specific to my needs that would save me time and alleviate concern over travel requirements. I had to do all my own research and all my own reminders. Whenever I asked my consultant questions about my specific travel she would refer me to a link that only provided general information that I had already read. When I asked her if the travel policy that I purchased initially through her was sufficient for the COVID coverage required for the countries in my tour, she told me to call Intrepid and ask them. Another time, she sent me an email to advise that I had not registered my information with Intrepid and needed to do it asap. After having no luck trying to figure out how to do that, I find out that I did not have to register with Intrepid. Another time, I had my reminder of the date of final payment for my tour and was prepared to make it when the time came. However, a week before that date, I received an email at 5:00 pm EST, forwarded by my consultant from Intrepid, that I was supposed to make final payment that day or my trip would be cancelled. I could not call the consultant because she had already left for the day and I was unable to pay online. I was in a panic. Why would anyone email you something that critical as they are walking out the door. Why not pick up the phone and call me immediately to make sure this got done timely. Thankfully I was able to get someone else at Affordable Tours to help get the payment made. (It took some time because the amount shown online that I owed was incorrect). These are just some of the many examples of incorrect, untimely, unhelpful information received by my consultant at Affordable Tours. Because of this, I will not use your services again, nor will I recommend to family and friends. read more

I booked a CIE Tour of Ireland with Vince Todaro of Affordable Tours. Vince said he could not help me with any of the flights or the transfers since I was going to stop in the UK before the Ireland tour and stay a couple days after the tour in Ireland. He also said he could not help with renting a car or hotels after the tour. I found out at least some of this was incorrect. He was useless as a travel agent and I had to book everything myself. I sent Vince an email with my list of food allergies per instructions in March. Vince responded that he would forward the information to CIE, but that he didn't know if my allergies could be addressed. When I started the CIE 10 day tour I filled out a form and listed the same allergies. Days later on the tour the bus driver/tour guide reamed me out for not letting them know before my trip about my food allergies and he was skeptical about whether the hotel restaurants could accommodate me. So I watched as everyone else went to dessert bars that had no gluten free options, and I was ridiculed behind my back for having food sensitivities by some of the intolerant people on the tour. Following the tour I completed Affordable Tour's and CIE's surveys, requested them follow-up about the disconnect, but neither contacted me.
