I had to make the absolutely gut wrenching decision to put my sweet almost 17 year old yorkie down a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately Dr. Tatum was not in that day but Dr. Lewis handled it. I just didn't feel any warmth or compassion from the office staff members at all. Nobody said 'sorry for your loss' or 'she was a good dog' or even looked up from their computers when the euthanasia was complete and I was leaving. I realize that people have to become desensitized to the death of pets when working in the field, however, my dog had been a patient for over 10 years at their office. That was one of the absolute hardest days of my life and nobody was even bothered enough to see a sobbing person and say 'sorry for your loss.' I will miss Dr. Tatum himself but when the time comes to find a new vet, I will be using a different practice. Bottom line: if you're looking for compassionate end of life care, please research this thoroughly as this was unfortunately not my experience with the current staff.

We waited in our car, was called at time of appointment, and given our exam room number. We entered the room and were followed immediately by a wonderful technician Miss Danni. Dr. Hunter followed within minutes. The care and attention was superior. We were not made to do unnecessary tests. This has never been the case with care I have had and witnessed from clinics in the past. Checking out was also exceptional. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and knowledgeable. A young lady who had just started, checked us out with assistance from her associate. Both were first rate. My only con to my visit is that we have to go back home and are not able to make this clinic our home base for veterinary service.

Yes, it's very expensive, but I was lucky to have them. They gave him a shot to make him throw up and thank goodness it worked. I will definitely use them again if needed. But once she got there (I cannot remember her name! She was a younger African American woman) she came to see us right away and pretty much dove right into work. She was extremely helpful and very kind and understanding. She got to work on my shepherd and fixed his paw all up. (He just cut his paw but was bleeding EVERYWHERE) They ended up neutering him too while he was under anesthesia, per our consent of course lol, which was really nice because we wouldn't have even thought to ask! Which really saved us some money in the long run. Everyone in this hospital was very easy and nice to work with in such a stressful situation. We ended up here because it was a Friday evening at 6pm. W got in, checked in, filled out the forms, paid the visit fee and ten minutes later we were in a room seeing a veterinarian; a VERY YOUNG veterinarian that was very professional and compassionate. Our pup got checked, they took him to get X-rays and was back in no time. No fractures were found so he was given antiinflammatories and pain meds and was sent home; we think he just had a wrong landing. We paid the vet/treatment fee and we were on our way to the hotel an hour later. Definitely not a bad experience at all, everyone was very compassionate, professional and friendly.

We fostered a dog from Paws Humane Society for two weeks and then officially adopted the dog two…read moreweeks later. Unfortunately, after the adoption, the dog attacked our child and other animals in our home. Our adoption contract states that Paws Humane Society would take the dog back if necessary. We were initially told that we could return the dog, but once they realized we live in Alabama rather than Georgia, they refused to honor what we had been told and did not follow through with the terms outlined in the contract. Rather than working with us to resolve the situation, Paws Humane Society proceeded to take us to court, resulting in significant legal expenses and financial hardship for our family. This was especially disappointing because our intention from the beginning was to support a local organization and provide a home for a dog in need. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage others to carefully review all contracts, policies, and return provisions before adopting. We felt unsupported during a difficult situation and believe Paws Humane Society failed to uphold the commitments outlined in its own agreement.

I was desperate! Oscar and I were both crying, so they called University Ave. Vet Clinic. Even though it was almost 6:00 by then, they said to bring him over, they would wait for us. On my way out to my car, the vet - whom I'd been told was gone - passed me as she left. But this isn't about them, this is about the heroes that saved the day...and Oscar's tushie (he had...hmmm, how to put this delicately...a big poop stuck in his little backside). lol. It's easy to laugh about it now, but it was horrible when it was happening. The great staff & doc at University Avenue Vet Clinic were ready and waiting for us. They never made me feel bad about keeping them so late. To the contrary, they made me feel at ease, and were very sweet. They then made Oscar feel "at ease". :D. They even gave his backside a bath, and trust me, it was a mess! Recommended!
