What can I say? The title read Northside Animal Emergency Care, after hours. I have taken a dog there awhile back, after hours, but not since then. Last night, we took a 4-month-old kitten to this clinic, because he is not eating. We just wanted to know if they could do a "once over" and let us know i they saw what might be causing this behavior. Well, we arrive at 9:30pm and check in at the desk. The parking lot and lobby were empty. Inside there were no ambient noises of pets in a strange place that usually come in a vet's office. We check in with the lady at the front desk, on to be told to stand by, as she went behind a door to their main office. She came out a couple minutes later, and stated that they were at max capacity, and that we could bring the kitten back in the morning. Are you serious? So much for "we care about your pet". This exchange, with a self-advertised "AFTER HOURS/URGENT/EMERGENCY" care facility, has definitely ensured that we won't be seeking their care in the future. This was our experience, just be aware that you might encounter this, if you choose to go there, probably based on proximity. The other alternative is Auburn Emergency Animal Hospital. This area needs a good after hours/weekend animal care facility. Animal Care folks, if you're listening, there is money to be made here! read more

My dog has been a client at this clinic for more than 3 years. On Christmas day, I noticed she was scratching and shaking her head more indicating an ear infection. I called on Friday and there was no available appointments so I was told to call in on Saturday morning starting at 8 am. My call was placed on hold and the receptionist returned to the phone at 8:04 am and I was told no available appointments. Of course I was upset and if I wanted my pet to be seen, I would have to drive to Auburn. Nevertheless, I scheduled an appointment for Monday the 29th. I received an email that appointment was for 8 am. I got to the clinic and the receptionist informed me her appointment was not until 2:30 pm. I was able to show the email and get my dog seen. Thanks to the receptionist, Dr. May and Tech Paige for getting my dog seen this morning and treating her bilateral ear infection. My recommendation is to look at how the Saturday appointments are made because I had to medicate my dog for several days before she could be seen in her regular clinic. Mary G. read more

I've been taking my senior diabetic dog here for two years now. The receptionists are very polite and attentive despite how often their phones are ringing. She had to stay there for a few nights because she got sick and the staff made sure to update us a few times a day about her condition. They always take such good care of our baby, and now we take our other animals there too. Was just there this week to take my cat and my sister's two cats to get a wellness check up and preventative for fleas. Our vet was incredibly informative. She answered all of our questions and made sure to thoroughly explain everything. There are separate areas/rooms for cats and dogs. The cat rooms have a cat tree and a wall diffuser that is designed to calm cats to make the experience less traumatic. There was even a noise maker playing soft sounds of birds. It works too! My cat can be very feisty if he is being made to do something he wants and at the vet he was so calm. I recommend them to everyone I know who has pets. The staff is amazing and so helpful. Usually if we need to take a pet to the vet, they are either in that same day or the next. Thank you for all that yall do for our fur babies! read more

While the vets may be competent, and the front desk staff is pleasant, you are expected not to disagree or question or else you will be labeled problematic and if you feel you might have an emergency don't bring your pet in between noon and 2. If a vet does break down and take a look (all vets take lunch breaks from noon8 to 2) they will be angry with you, complain about getting not getting lunch, and call you overly demanding. Brittney was very helpful in obtaining prior history, answered all my questions, and gave me a tour of where they'd be staying. A big relief to know they'll be comfortable and safe. I made the appointment to board our animals and saw Dr. Stewart, and her tech Minerva, at the same time for a wellness update for our dog. I thought the offices were clean and organized and the staff friendly. Our dog stayed calm the entire visit. Linda gave me payment options and was easy to work with. I am very dissatisfied with the lack of customer service provided to me as a federal government employee dependent upon the timeliness of the results of Cleo and Mocha's FAVN results. My travel to report to duty on Permanent Change of Station (PCS) assignment has been delayed as a result of a lack of follow up with the required documents to schedule our flight and to avoid a costly fee for quarantining my pets upon our arrival to Korea. All due to your staff and the lack of providing appropriate documents. Considering the fact that your place of business provides services to a large military base population, professional development and awareness of guidelines for FAVN must be done or your business should stop pretending to know how to provide those services. Due to the fact that I was not contacted when you received the results I have encountered a costly and major delay to report to duty on time. I have also requested to have my pets' heartworm medication available this week by speaking to someone and by voicemail and still have not received confirmation that I can pick it up. It is unfortunate that the lack of organizational skills was evident today. To top it all off, I requested for my pets to have a complete annual check up to include expired test, shots, and/or medications. They did not perform a Heartworm test for my pets after receiving their previous test results. read more

After learning my German shepherd had a bad UTI, I boarded her here for 3 days while I was away for work instead of taking her to daycare like normal. I assumed she would be safest at the vet clinic while in recovery. She managed to jump her kennel and made it into the lobby where she was able to eat chemicals used to clean the fish tank. It went unnoticed all night long and I was notified the next morning. Fortunately she was fine but I was horrified by the fact that it even occurred as this has never happened before anywhere else. She was sick and had diarrhea for almost 2 weeks after. When I picked her up, the tech that brought her out to me joked about it and asked if they could post the security footage on their TikTok. I thought it was inappropriate and insensitive given the fact that something seriously could have gone wrong but I let it go and dismissed it as a freak accident. A few months later, I attempted to schedule an appointment for my other pet and was told I left without paying last time. I was never once informed that I owed anything after the incident and assumed that they were liable? I would have payed for her treatments but they never returned my call after telling me they would have a manager contact me. I will not be back. read more

Vets are good, though they try to sell you extra services constantly. 2 stars is for the dumpster fire admin side. I have regularly taken my dog there for 2 years. I've always been annoyed by the constant emails saying he is due for something despite having just visited 2-3 weeks prior. After making calls to ask, I now just ignore the emails. I was up sold on an extra flu shot for my dog. They were out of the booster for months, so I'm not sure the original is doing anything. I finally get a call saying they have it and I make an appointment, taking a vacation day to bring him in. After driving there, checking in and taking a seat- someone comes out to tell me they don't have the vaccine. WTF!!! They called me! She went on to say that their phone service called and that they will call me to make the appointment when the booster is in. Don't bother. I won't be back. read more

I have been taking our dogs to Northside Animal hospital for the better part of a decade and enjoyed great care and service. Of the last year or so and through a transition in management the staff has not been living up to that great service and care we once enjoyed. Phone calls haven't been returned, records haven't been updated resulting in a call for services that are not needed, and a promise of a better system with the use of modern tech that comes out flat because the staff again isn't updating records. Bottom line, while the doctors and techs here will do everything for your baby. But they are being let down with a less than functional office manager undercutting the service. read more

First of all, this is curbside service now which the staff did not notify me of before my first appt. I understand the reasoning behind it but if I had known, I honestly would have gone somewhere else. I would actually like to meet the vet who will be taking care of my dog. There were other ppl in the parking lot who also didn't know beforehand. I was there for a simple check up with heart worm testing and I was there a total of 1 hr and 45 min waiting in my car. They took my dog inside and I didn't see him for another 40 min. Without any updates on what was going on. I tried calling at the 30 min mark and was placed on hold and then hung up on after 5 min on hold. The vet called and discussed things w me over the phone. She seemed nice and explained things well. I then waited another 20 min just to pay and get flea/heart worm medication. I work in the medical field so I totally understand things come up. My issue is the communication. You should COMMUNICATE with those there if you are behind and notify them beforehand about curbside. I would not be writing this negative review if their communication had been better, even with the super long wait. read more

I went and took my fur baby to be seen by Dr. Stewart, who was knowledgeable, patient & kind. However, she was never the concern... My experience was after spending over $400+ for updated shots (yearly wellness exam). I also purchased the tick and flea prevention control. What I did not realize was that Northside KNOWINGLY gave me old, expired Rx to begin with. This I know to be true because, in fact, when I realized that it was old, I came back & told them that it was old & requested an unexpired batch for my pup. Not only did the front receptionist staff tell me that it was okay to give me old Rx, after continually telling them that I did not feel comfortable giving my pup expired Rx they then offered me "unexpired Rx" from the back. I was about to leave w/this Rx until I actually looked at it & realized that it was old Rx, too. So, they lied to my face & still tried to give me OLD Rx again for my pup. I asked to speak to the manager & Dr. Stacia was "busy" & I asked for a f/u w/Dr. Stacia w/new unexpired Rx (I asked to call me & let me know when they received new Rx for p/u). Not only did I not receive a phone call (for several weeks), but I had to go back up there for the f/u & was told to wait in the waiting room. When I was patiently waiting there for about 15-20mins w/no update. I then asked to speak to the manager because this was unacceptable. The receptionist gave me an envelope & told me this was my refund for the Rx that I didn't ask for. I told her my pup needs his Rx, not money & to please get someone who is able to fix this. That's when the manager, Erin Campbell, came to tell me that the Rx was refunded because they didn't have unexpired Rx. I asked her after months had gone by that there was not Rx back there that was up to date? She finally went to the back & brought back good Rx but then attempted to charge me more money from something that I paid for back in March for; I told the manager that it should be a fair swap due to the fact that THEY gave me old medication & I never asked for a refund just for new medication that was not expired. The fact that I have to explain the importance of not taking old, expired medication (whether it is our pets or humans) there is a reason why there is an expiration date! Why am I having to explain this to health professionals in the first place? This is not how a "hospital" should conduct themselves & I am glad that I actually paid attention because they clearly do NOT have my pet's best interest at heart. Be careful if you go here. Normally I don't write reviews, but today I must. Sixteen years ago I adopted a rescue dog which Dr. Hank Hall helped with his neutering procedure. Rocko was a great dog: lovable, energetic, loyal, and friendly. However, in that sixteen years of his life, Rocko developed hip dysplasia, was losing his hearing and sight, began losing his hair, losing weight, and his anal gland protruded. Even with pain medications, he was suffering. Today, after months of putting off the inevitable, my family and I decided to put Rocko down. We requested that Dr. Hall be his physician one last time, and he obliged. As we said our goodbyes to our baby, I bursted into tears. Dr. Hall, being compassionate, allowed me to take all the time that I needed to say farewell. Keep in mind, we were at his office at 5:30 and they closed at 6:00, but he offered us an hour if we needed it. To top it off, seeing that we were deeply saddened to about to lose our Rocko, Dr. Hall said that he would mail us the bill instead of making us pay at the desk after the visit was over. Northside and Dr. Hall are some of the most compassionate people in Columbus. This is why I will always go to them for my pet needs. I've used Northside Animal Hospital since a year after I moved to Columbus (since about 2015), but I will not return after this week. On Tuesday (1/11), my cat was taken to them for labored breathing. They kept him overnight, said he was improving, and that they'd taken an xray. They returned him to me Wednesday evening and said to call if he didn't continue to improve. On Thursday I called because his breathing was extremely labored. They said there was no way they could see him--despite me telling them that he wasn't breathing. When I found another vet who would let me rush him right in, I found out Northside had not taken an xray and that the pill they gave me was a simple pain pill--not something that would actually help him. My cat could have died because of them not treating him correctly. read more

I love the veterinary services at Northside. But I recently boarded my dog there, and felt a little duped. I asked, "How much per night," ($18, which is reasonable). But I was charged $72 for 72 hours (Fri at noon to Mon at noon, since they don't offer Sun pick up). I guess they charge per calendar day, not per overnight. Additionally, I was not notified that there would be a $25 influenza vaccine on top of the $72. I expected a bill for $54, but was charged $97. He won't be staying there again. read more

Yes name calling because I now look get wanted to hear his excuses for doing work I was not told about and the charging more than I was told. He was trying to make excuses and when I said I just need you to get someone to take my credit card so I can go he said "I'm trying help me". How? Your just going to make excuses when helping me is taking my payment so I can go. I have never met a more arrogant "Dr" (by degree only) in my life. He admitted to performing something on my dog that h I did not authorize and to his credit he offered to remove the charge. I went ahead and paid that charge because o got the service. Probably would have authorized it anyway. I am not one to just lip off about this stuff. But it happened twice. Shame on me right. It won't happen again here. There are so many more options in town. I can't tell you what to do. All I can give is my review and you take it for what it is. I will in fact give you the details specifically if you request them. At a minimum the office is poorly ran regarding communication (don't use Covid as an excuse). Phone still works. Email still works. At the worst their is level of arrogance and deceit. Ever since Dr. Hall retired and left, this veterinary service has gone way down hill. Now you have to park in their tiny parking lot and wait in your car for the ONE person they have going in & out to handle all the customers. Several times I have waited almost an hour, simply to pick-up/drop-off my pet. Meanwhile, he is hot and anxious while waiting in the car. This is hardly convenient "curb-side service"! I recently went inside to pick up some meds and it was filthy - and it STUNK like animal feces! I will not be letting my babies be cared for or board here ever again. I hate it for Dr. Hall, because he was an amazing vet! read more

I struggle with how to rate this veterinarian. I am sure that if you have a pet who is very well behaved in vets offices, this will be a perfectly acceptable spot. However, with two large dogs who don't like cats, this was a very stressful experience for us. I had warned the staff when I called that they were very difficult around other animals and she assured me they would work with us... I didn't really love the situation we walked into, that I wasn't warned of. We checked to be sure there were no other pets in the lobby before we came in. Little did I know, there is a caged cat in the waiting room, which once my boys discovered this they probably terrified the cat to death and set us off on a very bad foot. The rooms are very small, which again, would be fine with a perfectly well behaved animal, but with two large stressed out boys and two regular sized stressed out people, it was pretty cramped. Then, the staff explained they would need to take the dogs in the back for the visit. As they were already stressed, I thought it best to go back with them. I'm so glad I did, because an entire wall of the exam area is stacked with cat cages, also the walk-through for the kennel is right by the exam tables. Thankfully I noticed before the boys did and we rushed back into the room just as an unleashed dog was escorted by. Jam packed in the exam room with two staff, two owners and two large dogs we attempted an exam. Again, my dogs are difficult, I know this, but they were wayyyyy worse than normal after being around all these triggers. The staff was as sweet as to be expected when dealing with two large scared boys but it was decided not to attempt a stool sample. We got to the exit with only minimal disruption and were able to bring a stool sample back from the parking lot, and then the next day for the other dog. I never got a call back that all was well with that test...so I am assuming it was? All that being said, if you've got a chill, well behaved animal who doesn't have other animal stress triggers, I'm sure this spot will be just fine. But for the other owners of difficult, but very loved pets, I don't know that this is the best choice. If I had known how many cats and dog interactions we were going to have, I probably would have tried to find a better spot for my dudes. read more

This is the vet where you and your pet gets the love and care that you want and expect from a vet. It's hard to find a great dr for your babies and where you don't feel taken advantage of either. The staff are gentle and thoughtful here. I've been to few where the staff made you feel unwelcome or at the very least they could care less if you gave your business to their establishment or not. In my experience with Northside every doctor has been professional and provided lots of information to help me understand what the tests, diagnosis and treatment would be. They take their time with you even though it's busy (which is all the time). They don't overcharge on meds or office visits. Which if you've ever gotten a $500 bill for two dogs getting their annual check up and shots then you know the sticker shock that comes with that! Northside ain't about that! I hope they continue to provide great service, friendly staff, just plain old good doctoring for our pets! read more

I had been taking my dogs to this vet for two years, and I'm leaving with a sour taste in my mouth. I brought my baby to them on a Wednesday this past week I got her back other than one small thing of weight loss she was overall healthy and the vet didn't see anything or overly concerned. Fast forward 3 days and one of my dogs dies rather suddenly. I try to reach out to them and I don't get a response as they are closed never once was I proved an emergency line to reach them, that would have been helpful. I sent my baby to a cremation service as who really wants a deceased dog in their home ? So my pup went to a cremation service I try to reach them to get a potential refund for services as the dog is dead, I understand they are business but if your dog died so suddenly at a very young age wouldn't you be concerned. I would have thought them to show goodwill and think about the customer who lost a dog that was too young to die even without an autopsy since the dog can't even use the stuff she was given. I will not be returning here and will be taking my business elsewhere read more

Northside is great!!! They are not my primary vet, but they might become my primary vet after taking such good care of my pup after an emergency. We got home late to see that my 24 pound Boston Terrier got into the trash and devoured a roast chicken carcass and had become very sick. It was late but the Mister called around and Northside was willing to see her. They took such good care of her and were so patient and didn't charge us an arm and a leg, I could not believe it! We were visiting Columbus, GA from out of state and our Dalmatian got extremely sick on our trip. We found this vet clinic based off their positive online reviews and they definitely exceeded our expectations. Dr. John Bloszies was so comforting and really took the time to explain everything to us. We were quick to be seen but didn't feel rushed once we were in the office. Prices were comparable with other vet offices but we appreciated that he didn't push us to get X-rays or anything "extra", which we initially thought we would have to do. He also gave us his business card and asked us to check in with him and let us know how our dog was doing the next day, which really shows how he cares about his patients. If I could give zero stars I would. I've been going to Northside for over 20 years. Dr. Hank Hall was an amazing vet and his staff was the best. He's retired and everything that was good about this business is gone. I know he's got to be very disappointed in how things have declined in a business he worked so hard to build. I've been unhappy with them for 2 years, but kept thinking things would get better. Not so. Sorry for the long review, but I believe you need to have facts to back up a bad review. This is just one in a long line of disappointments. They NEVER answer the phone. When you leave a message, they NEVER call you back. My most recent encounter: My dog will obsessively lick his paw to the point that it's raw and bleeding. He's on a strong med that addresses this OCD behavior. I use the automated mail service so that I receive his medicine every 3 weeks. If he skips a dosage, he immediately begins to have withdrawals. The vet recently increased his dosage so I ran out a few days before the automatic refill would arrive. I realized Tuesday night that he was out of pills. Totally my fault, but nonetheless I needed help. I called Northside at 9 am on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Naturally, I had to leave a message. My message was a desperate plea to get some of his medicine that day, before the holidays. By noon they hadn't called me back. I called between noon and 2 which is their daily lunch break. I left another message. No return call by 3 pm so I decided to go in person. I drive up to read a note on the door that they closed at noon and would not re-open until Saturday. Would have been great to have that information on their outgoing message!! Also on the door is the name and number of another local vet to call. Well, they closed at noon too! I went in person the next Wednesday -- a week after I left my desperate message -- to get a copy of all my dog's records and x-rays. I was done! I mentioned the message I left about the prescription a week ago. "Coincidentally" they had just filled the prescription and were about to call me. Are you kidding me!!! There is NO urgency on their part. The front desk couldn't care less about their jobs or the impact it has on their customers and patients. Here's a pro tip, when you feel the need to tape a notice on your front door that states all the disrespectful behavior, foul language and other behavior that won't be tolerated by customers, you've got a problem. I have never walked into any business in the world that had to make that statement on their front door! You would think someone in upper management would want to stop and look at what has happened to warrant that behavior by customers to the point a sign needs to be posted! BTW, Dr. Tatum at Midland Animal Hospital fit me into his schedule at 4 pm on that Wednesday and gave me the meds I needed for my puppy. They will be my new vet! read more

Our two and half year old cocker spaniel needed emergency surgery after swallowing coins. They never disclosed to us that no one is there to monitor sick or recovering animals who are advised to stay overnight. They checked him at 7:30 in the evening and then he was left alone until 7:30 AM THE NEXT DAY. At which time he was unresponsive. I've read that Dogs can require intensive supportive care after being poisoned by swallowing coins - Including an IV to flush their kidneys and often times a blood transfusion for the anemia. Neither of those were done for our cocker. read more

I just want to start out by saying this place is terrible. I won't say all there staff is terrible but most are just as terrible as the establishment. I called to make an appointment once and I was left on hold almost 30 mins. I hung up and called back and they acted like I was never on hold and the lady that put me on hold totally disappeared. My dog was groomed once and I wasn't notified he was ready and the place closed early and when I went to get him the doors were locked and the workers were sitting inside and told me I was lucky I came when I did we are usually gone. I was given my dog not even fully groomed after him being there from 7am to 7pm. The groomer called me the next day and apologized for not grooming his face saying he woke up from the sedation you early. In recent events I was just contacted by the groomers after scheduling my dog to be groomed again she told me she would no longer groom my dog because I had a no call no show and I showed up with my dog one day with no appointment?????? 1st off I apologized for the no show and explained to her that's no reason to be denied service on the first time. And I explained to her I did not show up with my dog without and appointment. I called and scheduled my dog for shots and a grooming and the lady on the phone was saying all kinds stuff confusing herself and me and she only put him down for the shots. I was under the impression that she put down the grooming also because we chose a specific day and everything. But apparently I just showed up with my dog with no appointment and it offended her. Which I don't know how because she didn't even groom him that day anyways. The only reason I kept going there in the first place is because my dog isn't calm and has to be sedated for grooming and they are the only place in Columbus whom I know sedates. But anyways despite me explaining everything I explained to the groomer she still said she wouldn't groom my dog again. Over text lol she didn't even have the decency to call me. Anyways the groomer is terrible and most of the staff is lazy and can't take simple instructions I wouldn't recommend them at all. read more

The wait time is very long, and the facility looks dirty and outdated. I rescued a 3-month old puppy at the Animal Ark, so this is the first place I took her, as it is closest to my home. Animal Ark, however, gave me a voucher for 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital to get her fixed. The facility is so much nicer, the people are so much friendlier, and I put in the exam room on time. I'm making 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital the primary care for my animals from now on. read more
