    Beautiful vintage cozy decor
    Mary V.

Brought my friend for her first high tea experience and our 1st time at the Ritz-Carlton. We had reservations for 1pm and were seated even though we arrived much earlier. The decor is simply beautiful from the furniture to the huge fireplace. The ceiling is high with crystal chandeliers. For my tea I chose Jasmine which was nice and light not overly sweet. We were served the 3 tiered platter and worked our way from top to bottom. The 1st tier contained 2 types of scones and were served warm with 2 jams and cream. I enjoyed the cranberry scone with red jam and cream. The 2nd tier contained 3 different finger sandwiches with crustless bread. My favorite is the cucumber with cream cheese. The 3rd tier contained a variety of bite sized pastries. Although the pieces are served in small bites, it was filling. I refilled my hot water a few times and the ta bag maintained its flavor. Overall, the staff was attentive and friendly. I asked one gentleman if we could view the Oval Room and he was kind and accomodated us for few minutes. He made our experience complete!

The highlight for me is the tasting table. There's six tables you can walk in and sit at, and the menu has one item per type of tea (white, green, etc). Each order comes with two contrasting teas within the category (Chinese vs Japanese green), for you to enjoy head-to-head. I hear they rotate the teas, see pic for example of the menu! The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient with my many questions. As a tea shop they have a massive selection of teas in an easily understood menu, and many quite nice teaware pieces that are reasonably priced and designed specifically by/for Camellia Sinensis. They also sell tea drinks to go! Limited selection vs tasting table, but a good variety of different tea types. There is no food. Note this is a marked difference from the tasting room/mini restaurant that existed here pre-covid, and is described by many older reviews.

There are about 4 wooden tables available where you can sit and order from the expansive tea menu. It really is an experience like no other. We ordered the jasmine flower and green tea sets, as well some steamed buns. The couple who owns the establishment are very kind and eager to show you the art of tea drinking. The owner arrives at your table with your super cool tea drinking set, and proceeds to pour the hot water into a cup containing the tea leaves. This is then poured into a sieve and finally, you pour it into the drinking cup. The tea itself was very aromatic and light. I've never felt so tranquil and at ease. Sitting in front of a view of Old Montreal and sipping warm and fresh tea was one unforgettable experience.

Whenever it was possible I looked forward to showing friends and family this very special place. I suppose now my experiences will remain a memory; As I have returned to Montreal with hopes of visiting and sharing this tea house once again only to walk in and find that they no longer serve any tea. You can still purchase loose tea and some beautiful tea sets but I am sadden that the experience is just not the same.

They told me "no no" and proceeded to put me on the counter.. Ok, anyway... at some point they managed to find a place, so I went at a small table very wobbly.. I came here to drink a good tea in a quiet environment, but unfortunately, the owner decided it was better to blast stupid dance music with a big speaker.. So yeah, if you reserve, expect that it will be like you did not, and if you are seeking peaceful tea, expect instead nightclub ambience. Ah yes, and it costed me for just one tea, more than to eat a complete meal in a not expensive restaurant (25$ without the tips). Note to the owner: I saw you liked my review, so I decided to post it here too. Impressive that not only is managing a basic reservation beyond your capacities, but you're also unable to take honest criticism. When you charge these kinds of prices, people will demand a certain standard. And serving it on a wobbly stool doesn't really match a $25 cup of tea.
