Decided to try out the new Taco spot in Troy, Agave and Rye. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer and they were the best I've ever had including fine dining restaurants. The Birria Street tacos were full of flavor and the consomme dipping sauce that came with them was delicious. Ordered a margarita to enjoy with the tacos and they let me know they make their own in house mix with fresh squeezed lime juice, really makes the drink taste authentic and fresh. I have always enjoyed Agave and Rye... visiting locations in Covington KY, Downtown Cincinnati, Rookwood, and Liberty Center. The Troy location was severely disappointing. Our food came out lukewarm and was already falling apart because of how soggy it was. Our chips for the queso and guac were stale on both orders. The rice in the burrito was still hard from being undercooked. I don't usually leave reviews but this was overall a very poor experience. Drinks only if we visit this location again. My boyfriend and I were in town just for a business trip and I never write reviews. However, I was truly impressed with the environment of agave & rye as well as our waiter so I just had to. This place is so cute & well decorated. Beautiful patio with flowers & lights. I personally wrote this review just to give a shout out to our waiter Brian. Hubby and I stopped in for a nice date night Friday and had a blast. We signed in for a table then sat at the bar for a drink while waiting. Manny was fantastic so much so that we chose to eat at the bar after encountering his awesome service. We had the Peach Bourbon drink (a pitcher) it was delish!!! We were not to adventurous so we had the Barilla street tacos and the Enchiladas, both were freaking AMAZING. We went on Saturday second day of the grand opening, of course a huge timeline mistake. We weren't concerned about waiting though. The menu was jammed with tequila and bourbon choices; food options were mixed up and overworked. It really took time to find something we would like to try. After waiting an hour and a half after being seated, there was a huge mixup and still NO FOOD. After all that, the food was just 'fast food' and average. The noise and the dramatic decor keep you on edge. This will be a fun place for the drinkers; they can party and grab some food. My expectation was dashed. It's a bar that has tacos and not the best. I decided to try Agave and Rye with some friends for the first time the other day and boy, let me tell you it was great! Our servers name was Courtney and she was AMAZING! She really made the experience that much better! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and even threw in some suggestions of some shops to check out while we were down town. Called ahead to see the best way to sit 25 even if not all together. They said to come and out our name in 2 and a half hours early to have everyone seated by 7:30. We put our name in at 5 they said everything was good to go. they called us about 7:00 and said would be ready around 7:45, which was Still fine. Around 7:15 they called us back and said Nevermind, we won't be able to seat you until close to closing time. Horrible customer service. If you can't seat that many people then say so from the start. Food was delicious. Service was okay. Although, did not receive any silverware.. which is fine considering it's finger food.. but we did not even receive any napkins. Had to go to the restroom numerous times just to clean our hands. Eventually we finally got two, yes two... napkins.. at the end of our meal.. got dessert as well "salty pimp taco." Worst taco I have ever had,, the other three agreed and some didn't finish eating.The drinks came out after the appetizers and the meal. When we mentioned that the drinks had been sitting at the bar for a long time and we were half way finished with our meal the four waitresses discussed it for other five minutes before bringing them to us. Seriously bad, the og margarita was ok and the hibiscus margarita was the only redeeming thing about the night. Run, run, run away from this place. Simply undesirable...didn't finish any of the food. The chips were cold, never had cold chips at a Mexican style restaurant. Don't order the guacamole, it's not fresh and has so much lime juice you could add tequila and call it a margarita. The street tacos are deep fried...everything is deep fried. Went for the second time today. Last weekend was the first time. We loved the tacos we tried last week and this time as well. Today we sat at the bar and had a great bartender/server named Nick. Took great care of us and was very nice even though he was super busy. I love the vibe at A&R and the food, with the exception of the tortilla chips. Both times we had them they were cold and a lot of them were too done for our liking. I also think that the food could have been hotter as well. Don't know if it sat for a few because they were busy or what. Hopefully this is just the exception and not the norm. Definitely won't let it keep us from going back. Food and drinks excellent. Problem was music was so loud I couldnt hear the waitress or my wife speaking. Problem compounded by other patrons as they have to raise their voices just to communicate with their table. I have now had Agave &Rye a few times! Every single time I order-- I'm happy! The food is so unique and delicious! I have celiac disease and it's hard to get variations and choices at any restaurant but at Agave & Rye they have so many choices.The server went above and beyond to make sure that my food was safe for me.Dining in I had the most fresh margarita and friendliest workers. My server was so helpful and efficient and the manager Jeffrey came by and checked on us multiple times. He was very pleasant and kind! This spot was nice, overall pretty good but the food I really don't complain but I thought the food was a bit dry and unseasoned... I ordered online & picked up and took home. I got home and the meat was very dry, I got chicken and asada (steak) both were very hard and unseasoned. The macaroni tasted very dry As well. Since it seems like the business owner actually cares and takes notes here I guess this is me reaching out. When ordering take out, the wait is usually an hour. Then you get there an hour later and nobody is back there to meet you. Takes quite a while to see anyone. It's usually an additional 20-30 minute wait once you get there (even after someone comes back to see what you ordered). Food is great, though sometimes it's cold, even though I had to wait to get it. I don't understand that. Drinks are great too when we get them. We've really stopped going over the enormous wait times and the additional time waiting at the take out counter. And I know it's no different for anyone else who orders take out. They're all crammed in the tiny room been waiting 20-30 minutes too. I've only had the dining in experience once and it was great, no issues at all. For as high dollar as each taco is it would be worth the price if you didn't take all the additional time out of my day making me wait after the time you said it would take to make the food. read more

Went to Agave and Rye in Troy to celebrate my birthday on 5/22 and also the fact that this was the first time we had been out in a bar or restaurant for 435 days due to Covid. Checked in and was texted in 20 mins, good system. They sat us in the back room. It was never explained why, but the room was 80 degrees, the Door to the square was open. Outside it was 80 degrees + and full of exhaust as the had a muscle car drive in going on. Food was slow, service was slower, after all who wanted to work in that heat, much less eat!?!?! The food was mixed, our wives had the chicken tacos. They were good. The rest was OK except for the Andoulie Sausage one that had sweet mac and cheese in the taco. Not a good combination at all. I was POed and complained to head office on their website where they promised a reply from a real person. That was on Mon 24th May, still awaiting that reply. I will not repeat this unfortunate experience. They say a satisfied customer tell 5 people, an unsatisfied tells 50 people, this is number 51!!!!!! read more

I ordered online. Then decided to called and asked if they had curb side service for my takeout order. Initially I heard a bit of hesitation when I asked about curb side service in the voice of the employee who answered the phone, Savannah. From that I understood they really didn't have curb side service BUT Savanah took it upon herself and said that she worked until 4pm and if I called when I was there she would "run it out to me". My order was to be ready at 3pm (I was calling at 2:30pm). About 5 minutes later, Savannah actually called me back and said my order was coming out now so I didn't have to wait until 3pm. As I got to the restaurant, I called in and Savannah ran my order out to me. ACTUAL SERVICE! THANKS SAVANNAH! Such a lost art in the restaurant world. KUDOS !!!!
