This isn't just a quick put together taco place they literally take there time and everything is always fresh no matter the time of day. We have our server that we ask for each time Tasha she literally became our friend we love to chat with her. She always welcomes us with open arms. She gives us new recommendations to try and everything is always the best. We checked out the new Agave & Rye's Troy, OH location recently. We were warmly greeted by the hostess. Our waitress was very friendly and walked us through the menu as it was our first visit. She also expressed that all the items are made fresh, so there may be a little bit of a wait. We tried the queso and chips, a variety of tacos to include a cushioned taco with guacamole and a specialty drink from the bar. Everything was indeed fresh and the variety of flavors was outstanding!! The atmosphere was bright and cheery! The restaurant was very clean and the music level was perfect for holding a conversation across the table! We will definitely visit again! It is EPIC!! read more

I guess if you want to pay $6-$8 Per taco for cold gristly meat then this place is for you. For me, no thank you. Will not be returning. I see a six month or less max future! If you notice. I eat here with my sisters and mother whenever I come home to visit. usually we have a good experience. we decided to get lunch on Black Friday while we were shopping in downtown Troy and our experience was nothing short of comical. our waitress was a clueless little thing, she got all of our orders wrong except for mine and when we brought it to her attention, she passed the blame on to the kitchen and offered us nothing. We are not complainers and we don't like to waste food so we ate what was brought to the table. A man who appeared to be mid-level "management" walked by our table and asked how things were and we told him about our orders being wrong. We asked him to make sure our bill reflected what we were served, not what we ordered ( my mother ordered 2 tacos and only got one and my sisters "epic" add-on did not happen). he came back and said he fixed the bill and "comped" our chips, salsa and queso. Our waitress NEVER returned to our table to refill drinks or check on us or cLear our plates. When she finally returned with our checks, they were not corrected. We asked her to get the man with wITh whom we spoke and handed her our plates, which she refused to take , and walked away. the man came back, we told him the bills were not corrected, he disappeared and never returned. we proceeded to wait 15 minutes at our table, watching our waitress talk smack about us to her coworkers, who we could see looking directly at us as she was talking to them. I finally got up and took my sisters bill to the hostess and told her we had been waiting 15 minutes and needed our waitress to tend to our bill so we could get on with our day. the hostess refused to take the bill and walked away. we proceeded to watch our waitress return to the floor 5 more times, bussing empty tables and checking on other customers... completely avoiding us. after about 10 more minutes, a woman who said she was the general manager came to our table and asked what the problem was. I told her everything and what a horrible experience we had and she "comped" our entire bill. we did nothing wrong and were never rude to our waitress and even ate the food she brought us instead of demanding what we ordered. if we had waited 5 minutes longer our bill would have been "comped" by us as I was ready to walk out the door. UNREAL lack of basic decency on the part of our waitress. luckily for this clueless little girl, my sister didn't feel comfortable having her tip reflect the actual job she did and she made $5 despite being a nasty person. I would have left her a shiny penny. our society is in big trouble with this generation of children who have zero skills and zero work ethic and who don't realize that without customers, they have no jobs... no money and therefore no iPhones to access their social media, which is what they seem to be consumed with. read more

PAINFULLY SLOW... 8:06 We were seated 8:29 We went to the hostess, because NO ONE had greeted us (23 minutes later) 8:31 Waitress arrived & she was very nice. We ordered drinks appetizers & dinner. 8:46 Appetizers Arrived 8:48 Dinner arrived (yeah 2 minutes later) 8:52 Our FIRST drinks arrived (AFTER the food)... We ordered "Frozen" Margaritas, she brought us "on the rocks." NO BIG DEAL, just throw them in a blender, right? WRONG, they don't have a blender! She informed us that the frozen ones come from a "Slushie Machine," and the machine was not freezing the ice. BOTTOM LINE: VERY SLOW Although they call them selves "Agave" (Tequila) and "Rye" (whiskey) they can't even make a margarita. She said that they "either pour the mix over ice, or into the slushie machine." And it takes 45 minutes to get a drink. Food was good, but over priced. Over $100 for 2 adults and a child. We were so excited to stop in and try Agave and Rye ! It's in a great location in downtown Troy and the building is black and beautiful! We were instantly greeted by our soon to be waiter Blake, he informed us it was National Margarita day! The place is so pretty and trendy inside! Bright colors and beautiful bar! Once seated we ordered the OG frozen margaritas, I got blackberry and my husband peach. They were awesome and heavy on the liquor. By the end of my drink I could definitely feel it! I ordered The Swipe Right and The Rima D! They were both amazing, but I really loved The Swipe Right! My husband got The Rooster and The Phanatic Phil. He said the rooster was a bit bland but the chic Ken was great. He really LOVED the Phanatic Phil! We also had Chips and Queso and the queso was great! Chips a bit over done. Our waiter Blake was "simply perfect" and made our trip awesome. They have a free arcade room that we also tried out and would be a huge hit for our boys. The bathrooms were clean and pretty! Had the Birria taco and queso appetizer. Tacos were almost warm, and the queso was bland, did not taste like cheese or have any flavor, very watered down. Service was minimal, food order, food delivered and the check. Overall Agave and Rye is over rated and not showing anything special. read more

I visited last week for dinner with friends and can only assume the owners of this joint don't give a damn about covid protocols or handicapped people. The place was packed without any social distancing, and the service was incredibly slow both from the bar and the kitchen. The floors are slick and the bathrooms are tiny without ADA stalls. Yes, the taco selection is epic but also epically EXPENSIVE. Brussel sprouts app was delicious so that's why I'm giving them an extra star. read more

I like the signs in the table to flip when service is needed to avoid a lot of unnecessary contact and keep servers safer while customers don't have masks on while eating. Good idea. The homemade tater tots had absolutely not flavor though, not even salt. Corn fritters were good. The Buddha taco had too much rice in it though, most of the shell was just filled with rice. Looks like it's not on the menu anymore.. bummer one of the only couple vegetarian tacos is gone. Husband really liked the Bang Bang taco. read more

Really enjoyed my experience at Agave & Rye. My first encounter was on Cincinnati, and am glad to know you have a place closer to Dayton. Margaritas are a little too sweet, but that seems normal for Ohio. The Vegan tacos were great. Low fat, order soft shell. Been here multiple times because friends always want to, but this is my least favorite place in Troy and tonight solidified it. There was an event downtown today, so a wait for a table was expected - but not bad at all and service was quick and good. The food however, below even the normal average "epic". There's nothing epic about the food other than the epically high price. I ordered the two menu items I know I like, 'the love shack' and 'the big thumper'. The first is generally not spicy, tonight though was hell-fire. The second used to be made with Brie fondue, my bad for not reading the 'new menu', but is now made with deep-fried something that is just not good at all and that makes up the majority of it (see picture for comparison of deep fried junk versus actual edible ingredients). Grab a drink in a DORA cup and save yourself some money by going elsewhere for food - your tastebuds and stomach will thank you! read more
