Great ambiance especially for Troy, Ohio. I had a Bourbon Peach drink and it was so good I had 2 of them! We started off with 2 apps and the kitchen was off that night and they took forever. So much so that they were comp'd. The Sticky Cauliflower Bites are to die for but the Crispy Brussel Sprouts lacked seasoning so we added good ole salt & pepper to liven it up. As for the tacos I think they're trying to be too creative. I had the Cats Meow and the grits and taco itself were cold. The Swipe Right was good and the Cali Girl was phenomenal but we heard from the bartenders that the company was removing that taco. Big Big mistake. Although the kitchen was off that night (all of us have made mistakes) we will give them another opportunity in the future. And definitely starting off with a Bourbon drink. read more

A mask is required and seating is well spaced except the bar. The bar has no safe distancing measures. Wait for a table. Very excited to try this new location and it did not disappoint. The menu is an eclectic combination of Tex-Mex and traditional tacqueria fare with a surprising number of vegetarian options. The service is excellent and the quality of food and drinks is stellar. I started plotting my next visit in the middle of my first visit and have been thinking about the food ever since - so 5 stars is absolutely deserved. Not even blinking at the quoted one-hour wait (which was a bit less); once we had our table - we reviewed the cocktail menu and placed an order of chips and guacamole to share. If hungry enough, consider taking advantage of the 'pick 3 for $15' option and include queso and double up on the guacamole. (You are welcome) The chips are handmade, corn tortillas cut in half and deep fried to a golden brown before seasoned lightly with salt. There is a hint of spice/flavor to the tortilla that is quite good. This is a really perfect tortilla chip - even alone. Agave & Rye features an excellent, extensive whiskey and tequila selection, as expected by the name "Agave & Rye". The cocktail menu is really nice, too - pairing wonderfully with the food. My choice: Pineapplerita (rocks) 12 (reg) | 19 (ePic size) | 35 (Pitcher) Jalapeño-Infused Tequila, Pineapple Juice, Fresh Lime Juice, Secrets, Sugar Water I ordered the regular size. It was a good balance of lightly spicy and lightly sweet. I ordered two and would order again, although the "Bee Sting" may be my next order. Nearly as difficult as choosing a cocktail was narrowing down my dinner choice to two tacos: (Truth be told; the tacos are generous and I will limit myself to "1" in the future) The Crown Jewel Butter-Poached Lobster, Shiitake Mushrooms, Mac N Cheese, Truffle Oil & Shavings, Shaved Green Onions 11.5 This was good but a bit heavy-handed on the truffle oil and I am not a fan of macaroni & cheese on a taco. I enjoyed it but I will try other tacos before returning to reorder this one. The Swipe Right Honey Lime Grilled Chicken, Sweet & Spicy Bacon, Aged White Cheddar, Salsa, Sour Cream (GF) 6.25 This was really a perfect taco. The chicken is flavorful and juicy and well balanced with the sweet & spicy bacon. My only regret is not only ordering just 1 taco and adding a 'love cushion'. Tips: 1) Be prepared for a wait. On a Saturday; this is a busy place. Take advantage of their check in and stop by, log your request with the front desk and they will text you when your table is ready, holding it for 5-10 minutes so you can return from a safe location. (We went to Basil's for a pre-dinner drink 3 doors down) We were advised the wait ranges from 1 - 2.5 hours on Saturday afternoon to evening. (Totally worth the wait; but take advantage of ability to check in and be texted. If you live within 5 minutes - lucky, lucky you.) 2) Until the pandemic is over; the bar should be avoided - it does not have adequate spacing for social distancing. The guests cannot be expected to space themselves (apparently). Wait for a table. Skip the bar (but totally order from the bar from your table). 3) Hungry? Try 3 dips for $15. 4) Be hungry. 5) cowboy candy is candied jalapeño. 6) consider upgrading your taco by adding a 'love cushion': an item to be sandwiched between the two shells. Your taco will be in a crispy corn shell tucked inside a soft flour shell. The add is between two shells. It might be the best value on the menu. 7) 1-2 tacos per person is maximum unless your appetite is large. I highly recommend ordering 1 and enjoy an appetizer. I'm serious when I advise I was already dreaming, plotting my next visit to this restaurant halfway through this meal. The ambience is fun. Cool place, lots of colorful decor. The staff is super nice and helpful. Stephanie was our main server (what it said on the receipt) and she was awesome! We had the wonton appetizer and five tacos, as well as the Agave & Rye, Bourbon Black Cherry Mango Habanero slushee, and the OG Margarita with black cherry. The drinks were all good! The slushee is too spicy for my taste but it does pack a powerful punch of flavors! The marg was so fresh, but very sweet and the Agave & Rye was strong and sweet (but not too sweet). The wonton appetizer was tasty but a little hard to eat with a fork since it's like little strips of wontons. Kind of arranged like a salad. Tacos we tried: The Swipe Right - My least favorite. Too much going on, and the chicken was really sweet which threw it all off for me. The Big Thumper - Our first time trying kangaroo, which was the only reason we got it lol. It wasn't bad, kind of gamey after taste though. The Phanatic Phil - Our favorite taco. The flavors all worked well together. The Rooster - The Mac was a little dry and overall it was too spicy for the both of us, but the flavor is there. The Bang Bang - I really liked this one. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and the cheese sauce was yum. I would add cowboy candy to it the next time I go! THE TACOS ARE HUGE! We didn't finish a single one. 7 of us did lunch here the day after Christmas. We started with homemade chips, guac, queso and salsa. Yummyness - all of it! It's worthy! I did the Crown jewel and the Buddha tacos. Ok. The Crown jewel is exactly just that. That lobster flavor is killer good! The Buddha was different, lighter and as a vegetarian dish in its own league. My SO did the Bees Knees and the Alderman. I tried A&R soon after moving to Troy - needed quick options for a few days while I settled in. The taco options are definitely unique compared to most places, and the portions are generous. My takeout order served me for two separate meals. I tried the Filthy Fajita (carne asada steak, sauteed mushrooms and onions and red peppers). I also ordered street corn and some fries. The service was wonderful as far as takeout goes. All was packed well when I received it, portioned nicely in containers, and the food stayed warm until I was able to enjoy at home. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the onions, mushrooms and peppers blended well with it and the cheese. The fries were perfectly seasoned (s&p), hot, crispy and tender inside. The street corn was a refreshing complement to the taco and fries: cheesy, just a hint of spice, and oh so good. I wished I would've ordered two of everything. I'll definitely be a repeat customer. This place is so neat! The decor is very unique and eye catching. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was great! For appetizers we got sticky cauliflower bites and corn fritters. The Epic tacos that we got were the hot summer dream, the plain Jane and the cousin of Vinne. These tacos are so neat because there is a hard shell on the inside and a soft shell on the outside! You can eat inside or outside on the patio. Inside there is also an area with arcade games. I thought that was a really fun idea. Definitely recommend trying this place! read more

Was there late on a Tuesday night. Sat at the bar. Greeted right away by the bartender who alerted me that it was taco Tuesday and they had some great specials. Started with a Margarita and chips and salsa. All good but be warned the chips are pretty thick compared to other restaurants and therefore very filling. Then had two different tacos that were loaded with filling and very good. Finished it off with a Miller lite which was on special for $2.50. Agave and Rye has become an every time visit when I make a trip back to my home state of Ohio. Not only do they have amazing cocktails, including some of my favorite drinks, and one of the better classic margaritas I have had, but their epic tacos are what really bring me back every time. With both a soft shell, and a crunch one, and the ability to select a "cushion" for in between them like queso, guacamole, etc... we're off to a good start. But there's more! You can order the more standard tacos, but they have some more unique options like spaghetti and meatballs, lobster Mac n cheese, shrimp and grits, etc! Both were excellent, and the presentation of the corn, especially in a to go box, was incredibly impressive. I also got the carne asada eggroll for my sister and she thought it was fantastic. When I heard Agave & Rye was coming to Troy I almost didn't believe it! What a gem we got when they opened their doors to the downtown area. When I first walked in the hostess was busy and didn't see me at first, so 2 people from the bar made sure to tell me hello and welcome me. It's always a great impression when you're greeted walking in to an establishment so I hope they keep this up! I really loved the decor. It's super fun and quirky -- definitely unique. The hostess said that they use the same graffiti artist for all the locations. To me, I love that it'll keep the locations looking consistent but still give them their own unique touch. I was seated right away and given a paper menu, an option for a digital menu and 2 cards: one side is to help get the staff's attention if you need something and the other side is to let them know you'd rather not be bothered. Genius! My waitress was Courtney. She was so kind and sweet! Any question I had regarding the menu she was able to answer, and she made sure I knew how to get around -- where to go for drinks, how to find the restrooms and the arcade. Yes, ARCADE! We'll get to that later. To start, I ordered the chips & queso. I believe they make their chips in house. They're thick, crispy and not too salty. VERY sturdy! They could hold up to any dip well. For my tacos, I had one Swipe Right and one Roost. Each taco comes wrapped in a soft shell to help support the hard shell. I'm glad they do this because things would go terribly wrong if they didn't! What I appreciated most is that they don't skimp on ingredients. They load those tacos right on up till they can't add anything else. You are definitely getting your money's worth and you are gonna leave full. I really enjoyed both my tacos and love how each, being chicken, were seasoned distinctly different. If you can't find a taco you think you'd like, they also offer dishes like lo mein, salads, bowls and have sandwiches to choose from. Let's talk about the arcade! It is super cool that they have free arcade games in the back. I felt like a kid again getting to play childhood favorites like Mario and Donkey Kong. Can't wait to come back and play more! This location also has a space dedicated to handling take out orders. It's just a few feet away from the restaurants main door. This is going to be great for controlling traffic and keeping the main floor from becoming congested. I think they get a lot of their business based around their alcoholic beverages, but that's not why I went there. Visiting my parents and they raved about this New Mexican place so we checked it out. Little bit of a wait so we walked around Troy which was fun and enjoyed the outdoors. It was nice to see they had a to go window for future reference. But we got the call and came back to get our table. Waitress was nice and explained the menu. I didn't believe my parents when they said, you really need one taco only...maybe two if you're hungry. Which made sense because a $7-$10 taco seems ridiculous in a small town. We all settled on the phantastic Phil taco which was very good. There is some queso on there that makes it! Super messy but very good. My husband got the street tacos and we would say that was a super let down. Could make that at home for sure and it was annoying that you couldn't get multiple options, just three of the same. We really wanted to try the vegetarian but the waitress raves about the birrio. Lastly and certainly not least, the elotes! THIS IS A MUST!!!! Beautiful presentation but more importantly, incredible flavor. Grilled corn and little spicy, not super covered in Mayo which was nice and a little cheesy.
