We enjoyed the atmosphere - it looks like a house-turned-bar and has so much charm. We were able to place our orders at the bar and one of the bartenders brought it out to us in the backyard. We sipped on our delicious drinks while rocking on the swinging bench outside. We decided to share the volcano ashes and floating petals cocktails. The volcano ashes was a bit too bitter for my taste - if you're someone who wants very little sweetness in your drink, this is the one for you. The floating petals was much more my style - the mix of floral tastes was lovely and it was on the slightly sweeter end, just how I like it! We decided on two sangrias after that which were nicely spiced and absolutely lovely. As it got colder outside we decided to move to one of their side rooms, which has nice furniture and is a bit more private than the main room. The bartenders were very kind and the drinks were delicious! Definitely check this spot out on your next visit to Fredericksburg.

Chicken Strips, Burgers and Pizza. Our party of three (3rd person differed, but 2 are the same) went for lunch and dinner on two occasions. Not a hint of New Orleans, so beware. The food we ordered, pizza and chicken strips (all chose the same dish on the two occasions) were available for considerably less in town and better quality and value for the money...Sonic chicken strips or those from Chicken Express are much better. The pizza tasted meh and frankly seemed to be inferior frozen pizza. Do not recommend food. We all had either tea or soft drinks, not impressive but again overpriced. The worst thing was the incredibly bad acoustics and blaring piped-in music (we went when there was no live music. The floor appears to be Saltillo Tile, and whenever a chair moved, imagine the sound multiplied many times over in a fairly small room with soaring ceilings and no deadening at all. A reasonable volume might have been bearable; we spent the entire time shouting at each other just to be heard and STILL not being able to hear. When your eardrums physically hurt after dining out in the daytime, there's an issue. The waitstaff were friendly and fairly efficient, and the building is extremely historic and beautiful. I was surprised to learn from previous reviews there was gambling on each end of the building; no one mentioned it and I assumed I missed that in the ads. I don't have a problem with it, but it does appear that might have added to the noise. We were sort of alarmed after seeing the proximity of the stage to our table and experiencing the over-worked sound system. I can only imagine. There was no issue with parking the times we were there, even though both gaming rooms were visibly busy. The lunch visit was full; supper a bit less crowded. I'm relieved our party was always adult and family/close friends. Honestly, the restaurant was, in our highly disappointed opinion, not worth returning for a second visit, and we won't be back. How sad.

The menu is pretty small with appetizers and burgers and a few other choices. We had some fried okra and each had the Rio Grande Burger with fries. Decra tasted delicious and appeared to be homemade. The burgers were huge and very tasty. I'd love to come here some live music here and try their cocktails (which are very reasonably priced).

Oh my gosh I was so surprised, I have tasted a lot of different chicken fried steaks and Barrel House was over the top. Friendly waitstaff kept our drinks filled and checked on us. Loved their sweet tea! I was hoping to come back in 2025 but I landed in hospital and we were broke by the time I finally got out. Highly recommend The Barrel house!!

While the atmosphere is wide open providing spacious seating, the comfort of seeing so many happy families dining was joyous. Since this is my first trip to the new restaurant from the same folks that brought you the Iguana Grill off of 620, the 4* rating reflects what I could reasonably provide. Let's get to food. The pull pork nachos, soft pretzel (huge worth splitting), and chips:queso were excellent starters. I do want to try their fried pimento cheese balls the next time. All great. For salad, I tried their Da Bomb with Turkey which was a bit of disappointment since it had scant cuts of Turkey deli meat. Feedback to this salad is to never ever use deli meat in a salad. Try streak, shrimp, or chicken. I also recommend higher quality fresh cheese like mozzarella or goat but the bomb had inexpensive grated Colby. I would also recommend glazed walnuts and berries but it didn't have either. For entree, I really want to come back and try their gumbo and e'toufee but decided on the sirloin which was cooked to medium. They also have several steak sauces included chimmichurri and hollondaise. Drinks were great. Recommendation. The service can slow down on the weekend when they get busy.
