The park is small, a bit shabby, mostly permanent residents. The main complaint was the park is in the takeoff flight path of Memphis Intl and we were awoken several times by LOUD aircraft noise. Vending machine didn't work but they did have bags of ice. No table at our bare gravel site. Bathroom/showers (2 of them) were fairly clean but showing their age. Cable and WiFi adequate. I'd look elsewhere before staying here again. One night.

The rangers can only do so much and they were very friendly and helpful.

To address other reviews about how bad the area is: yes, it's industrial and yes you drive through an impoverished area, but if you're more upset about how that offends your sensibilities and not upset about the fact that industrial areas are polluting vulnerable neighborhoods and a park that has significant black history then I would sit with that for a while. We also had no issues with any waste water treatment or factory smells - I would imagine that all depends on weather and wind.

We stayed in the Fly Fishing Lodge suite and it was awesome. 1,300 square feet of greatness in 1 room! We checked in and the lady at the front counter was so nice and friendly, it made the check in process easy. I asked about the back to school promo they were running since I called about it a couple days before my stay and she said it was on my bill (10% off and some coupons). Perfect! She let me know all the amenities the hotel offered and about the elevator ride. And even had a scavenger hunt for the kids! How awesome is that. You should offer that to everyone (minus the ducks for adults) because it was an awesome way to get to know the hotel and move around the hotel levels freely and with purpose. There is no pool here but it makes up for it with other things to do. From bowling, to the elevator ride, to the restaurants and the shopping there was plenty for the kids to do. Once we checked out and received our emailed receipt I realized the back to school promo wasn't applied to our bill. When I called the lady wasn't informed on the promo either so oh well, bummer.

The photos online are incredibly flattering and set expectations that simply weren't met. In person, the property felt dated and underwhelming. Our room overlooked a staircase instead of the store view we were led to expect, and there was nothing particularly luxurious about it. Even the "fireplace" was just a light effect, which felt misleading. The service was the biggest letdown. Most of the staff we encountered were unfriendly or dismissive. Housekeeping came by around 9:00 a.m. while I was getting dressed, and because I couldn't let them in at that moment, our room was never serviced for the rest of the day. No one returned. Calling the front desk was equally frustrating--we repeatedly waited on hold with no answer and ultimately had to go downstairs in person anytime we needed assistance. The layout and amenities were also disappointing. Guests could use the express elevator going up, but not coming down, which made little sense. The hallways were extremely dark and honestly felt uncomfortable and unsafe. Amenities were sparse, and room service after 11:00 a.m. was basically limited to burgers, offering very little variety. We were also attending events during our stay, and unfortunately the food served at every function was consistently poor. The location inside Bass Pro Shops is certainly unique, but the novelty wasn't enough to make up for the lack of service, misleading expectations, and overall value. For the premium price, I expected a true luxury experience. Instead, it felt more like paying luxury rates for a very average hotel. I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

There is great potential for this space, but the lighting was so harsh, it drowned out the beauty of the Mississippi River and the mosquitoes sent us back inside. I will definitely try BSL again because Robbie was so professional. Perhaps, I will add more stars, if BSL irons out the wrinkles.

I've heard about this place forever but finally decided to make the trek down there and spend some time. I am part Native American and while I never knew my grandmother, the history and culture has always piqued my interest...even though (full disclosure) I know basically nothing. I should have mentioned before (although you probably guessed by the name) that this is a Native American museum and abandoned village site from the 1500s. There is an 8 minute introductory video that is a little bit confusing. I say confusing because I didn't find it very informative and it lost my interest after about a minute and a half. All I gathered from it is that the University of Memphis controls the site and a lot of their students write projects on it. Oh, and they talk about the "hands on" exhibit kids get to see where they get to see archaeological finds. I peaked in afterwards and it was pretty cool. If you have kids, this would be very fun for them. The exhibits inside are very small with more words and reproduction displays than artifacts and I spent the majority of the time outside. It was a gorgeous day and the village is beautiful but there isn't really that much to look at...or information. I think this place would be a goldmine for kids though. I liked it but don't think I'd take a second trip back unless there was a special event. Definitely, definitely glad I went though. It is really cool to know more of Memphis's history. Oh, and there are also hiking trails through the forest. We started but I didn't have the right shoes on. Great place to be outdoors!
