I had a physical there in June and another visit a couple of weeks ago because I had some additional medical issues. In both of these appointments, the treatment I received from Dr. Chung was awful, and came nowhere near the standard of care one would expect from their primary care physician. Your health and wellbeing are so important - which is why it's so important that you never become a patient of Dr. Chung's. On my first visit, the annual physical, Dr. Chung spent a total of 4 minutes in the room if I'm being generous. After going through the regular PCP motions, he asked me if I had any questions or concerns about my health, of which I had a few and wanted to ask him about. But when I did attempt to ask him about each of these concerns, he rebuffed me, saying he didn't have time to address them and that I would need to make another appointment to address these issues. At probably every doctor's visit I've ever had in my life, the doctor asks if you have any further questions or concerns. Whenever I replied, all of the doctors tried to address my questions and concerns in some way - a little advice, a prescription, a referral, etc. - until this appointment with Dr. Chung. I was stunned, and I still am. So I made a follow-up appointment and had it a few weeks ago, in which I wanted to talk about 4 concerns, 3 of which I put in the notes in the request for the appointment, so that the doctor would know exactly what I was coming in for. Though I won't reveal the exact medical issues, I could've told you before the appointment that what I needed for each of them was a referral to a specialist. When I showed up to that appointment, however, Dr. Chung started the conversation by saying, "There's no way we're going to get through all of these issues. I have time for maybe 2." When I asked why we couldn't get through all the issues, he said that he just didn't have time to get through them all in one appointment. He then told me - again - that another appointment would be needed to address the other 2 issues. So, once Dr. Chung's primary goal had been achieved -- negotiating down the number of my issues he was going to address so that he could force me to have to come back and get to bill for another appointment -- Dr. Chung finally started working on what is the primary goal for every other doctor, but only the secondary goal for him: figuring out the best way to treat my medical problems. Sure enough, when Dr. Chung actually allowed me to speak and tell him about each of these problems, he quickly agreed that each issue had to be addressed with a referral to a specialist. Dr. Chung actually spent almost the entire appointment on his computer searching for the doctors in my plan's network that he refers patients to. In total, he probably spent about 15 minutes with me in the room, but it was spent searching for 3 doctors who his office apparently refers patients to all the time. On the second doctor, whose name Dr. Chung couldn't remember, I started to search myself in order to speed things up so that there would be a chance of addressing more of my issues. I found the doctor he was thinking of on ZocDoc within 30 seconds. So, despite his best efforts, Dr. Chung actually was able to issue 3 referrals instead of just 2. To add icing to the cake, one of the specialists he referred me to has moved and no longer works at the practice, so I will have to get a different referral for that one, too. For the last issue - which I guarantee will simply require a referral to a specialist - I would have to make another appointment - again, not because the medical issues need more time to address than can be fit in a single visit, but because of ineptitude with a basic computer function. Thankfully for me and my health, I will not allow him to pull the same trick again. Dr. Chung provides an unacceptably poor level of care. Whatever you do, don't trust him with your healthcare.

Though she is frequently harried or frayed herself due to how busy she is. However, her receptionist Karen, as depicted in many of the other reviews, is uh... colorful... and something to behold. She can appear approachable and compassionate one moment and in another moment she will rip you a new one. It depends on whether you catch her in a mood or not, and if the office is especially busy. On the plus side, she does seem to get things done if something needs to be communicated to Dr Fung. However she does often makes you (along with everyone else in the waiting room) fully aware of what an imposition it is for her to do so, and quite loudly. As someone with a newly diagnosed chronic disease of a serious nature, alongside the stresses that come with it, I definitely hit an impasse with her when she tore me a new one for some administrative confusion. I can't deal anymore with her mood swings--whether my next call will be answered by Jekyll or Hyde. I no longer have room for this kind of verbal and emotional assault in my life, especially from my primary health care provider office. I should not feel bullied, nor should I be made to feel trepidation for making a call to her office for a necessary medical request. So sadly, despite Dr Fung being quite easy going and a good doctor, I will be looking for a new primary care physician. I do wish Karen the best. Perhaps she's bipolar or on the spectrum or just stressed beyond awareness. She's a mom, so I hope that it's just in the office and that her home life is more balanced and peaceful for the sake of her family.

That doctor you are imagining sucks compared to Dr. Cho. The difference is that Dr. Cho doesn't just care about her patients. She cares about her job. Deeply and to the point that it is obvious within minutes of meeting her (or I don't know, can someone fake that? I don't think so). So as a great doctor, with a team of great doctors around her, she probably has spent a lot of time, her life really, thinking about how to be the best doctor. Way more than you or I have spent. So she knows far more than we do about what a great doctor should do. That means that when you go to the office and see Dr. Cho there are so many things being done to make your visit go perfectly that you won't even notice or understand them all. You just have a great experience. Then, what, I guess you sit down and think about it and try to explain it on Yelp and realize that you are under-qualified to explain why the experience was so great but you really want other people to know. Also, she's never hesitant to discuss more than one issue during a visit if time allows and seems to follow a holistic approach. (Again, this is such a rarity today!) She's always within reach and answers to her emails in a timely maner. If she's away from the office, she's sure to refer me to one of the other physicians at the 14th Street location who also have been wonderful. I am so glad I found her and yes, I renewed my membership for the third year. The moment I opened the door I had a gut feeling something wasn't right. When I walked back to the room I was immediately instructed by the physician assistant to get undressed and put on a gown which was very odd to me. Usually when it's your first appointment establishing primary care you aren't asked to get undressed so I was a bit caught off guard and decided to wait to undressed until after talking with the doctor and going over what we would be doing at todays appointment that required me to get undressed. When Dr. Lyon came in (before introducing herself) she asked me in the rudest voice "why aren't you undressed?" And I said "I had a few questions before getting undressed" and she said "you could have still gotten undressed!" - I was so taken back as to why it was such an issue that I didn't get undressed immediately. She proceeded to ask me questions then abruptly interrupted me and said "you're not wearing a mask, let me get you one", she returned with a mask and I told her I didn't want to wear it (mind you the assistants in the office weren't wearing one, just her) and she told me "I had to wear it" I then responded with telling her I haven't had to wear a mask at a drs office in over a year, she proceeded to tell me to put it on. Given this woman's attitude I knew I couldn't trust her, so I told her we could end the appointment and I will go elsewhere. She immediately followed up with "okay! But you still owe me $50 for the appointment." When I was checking out I overheard the physician assistant say to the doctor "Dr. Lyon you were supposed to be better this year." So clearly this isn't the first time someone has left their appointments 10 minutes in. I'm honestly shocked by the amount of good reviews I see on Google. Her Yelp reviews are far more accurate, in which I'll note another girl had the same horrible experience with Dr. Lyon getting mad at her for not undressing right away. If I could give zero stars I would.
