Great food and great people! I like that pozole and the tamales. You can also get Mexican snacks.

This may be the most unusual Yelp review you'll read, but stick with me…read more On my first trip to North Dakota, I asked a local, "What's quintessentially North Dakota?" After a long pause, he said, "We have some really good Mexican restaurants." I nearly laughed. Bismarck is over 1,500 miles from the Mexican border! I politely ignored his advice. A couple of days later, after visiting Fort Mandan and driving through some of the state's wide-open, snow-covered countryside, I was starving. After striking out at a couple of restaurants, that local's words came back to me: "We have some really good Mexican restaurants here." A few minutes later, I found Charras, and the parking lot was packed. On a Thursday night, there was already a 20-30 minute wait. That's usually a good sign. From the moment I sat down, the service was outstanding. Chips, salsa, water, and my drink arrived almost instantly, and my waiter had an uncanny knack for showing up exactly when I needed him without ever hovering. I ordered the Camarones a la Diablo with Spanish rice and avocado. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, coated in a rich, buttery pepper sauce with just the right amount of heat. The rice soaked up every bit of that incredible sauce, while the avocado provided the perfect cool contrast. The portion was generous, and every bite was excellent. The moral of the story? Never underestimate the locals. They live there, and they know where the good food is. Thank you, Team Charras, for changing my mind. I may not have planned on returning to North Dakota anytime soon, but thanks to your food--and that unforgettable buttery sauce--I'll happily come back for another visit.

We were seated by a large group with one guy talking really, really loudly. It really got annoying. The chips was salsa were probably the highlight. The shrimp fajitas had about 10 shrimp and was mostly oily onions and peppers. There plenty of parking available.

We were greeted and seated right away, and someone followed up with chips and salsa. The service was prompt, and our server checked in on us several times. I forgot to take pictures, but our food looked exactly like the photos already on here. I had the tamale, burrito, and enchilada combo. The tamale was outstanding; however, aside from the flour vs corn tortilla, the other two were pretty much the same. This combo did not come with rice and beans, which I feel is a staple, and I probably would have ordered something else had I known. My daughter had the street tacos, which were good but pretty ordinary. They come with a very hot sauce on the side, and I would have preferred something milder. They are pretty bland otherwise. Also, each meal only comes with one basket of chips and salsa. There is a charge for refills. I gave it four stars because while there were some drawbacks, I would come back for the tamales and maybe try something else. The menu is very large and has a lot of variety.
