Right in the heart of downtown Bismarck, this spot serves up some pretty decent Irish pub grub fare. It was pretty quiet when we came in (it was a weekday, mid-afternoon), but the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered one of my favorite pub dishes...the classic fish-n-chips. Turns out, their version comes with waffle fries (not traditional English chips) but their Dublin sauce used for dunking the fries really hit the spot. The two large, breaded fish filets really filled me up and the platter also came with a generous portion of creamy coleslaw. We stopped here on our way to Minnesota. We loved that they were open late and hoped that we could get some good food at 10PM. The reviews were promising and honestly, there was nothing else. After reading some reviews I got the fish and chips and my partner opted for some wings and chips. Everything was saltyyyyyyy. Fish was greasy. The wings were weird, missing the golden brown color you expect of wings. The bartender/server was pushy and sort of felt like she was rushing us out even tho it was 11 and they close at 1. I drove 700 miles today to get to Bismarck, eating no breakfast and for lunch having a gas station banana and a string cheese stick. I was famished by the time I got into town. I arrived at the Radisson hotel and after checking in began searching for nearby restaurants. The Blarney Stone sounded appetizing, and was only a couple of blocks to walk from the hotel. After 11.5 hours in the car, walking sounded like a good idea. December in North Dakota isn't the most temperate climate, and the walk to the restaurant had me chilled. I was now cold and hungry. So, when I saw the Pub Mac n Cheese on the menu, that sounded like just the thing to warm me up and fill my belly. I ordered it with the breaded chicken with Asian sauce. My dinner arrived impressively fast. It was delicious. The Asian sauce was the perfect compliment for the cheesy pasta. I was so enamored with my food, that I didn't even notice the football game on the televisions. I normally abhor football, but felt so comfortable eating my comfort food that I felt right at home. The lighting was adequate. I wouldn't complain. The wood finish on the floor and bar was quite dark, so I imagine any amount of lighting would not seem very bright. Sound level was acceptable. It's a pub, so I kind of have to expect some level noise. Overall, it was a very good dining experience. Would not recommend. The bacon was filled with fat most I had to remove from the sandwich, one half of the sandwich had one thin tomato slice the other side had 4 or 5. I ordered a side of cajun ranch for the waffle fries and it was as thin as water. I couldn't even take a bite of the fry with sauce without it dripping everywhere. Definitely would never order again. I use to love going to this place, but I haven't been here in a while. I have never disappointed about the food or service. The ambiance is like an Irish Pub in Dublin, and I am 50% Irish. A great Irish restaurant/bar in Bismarck,ND in the downtown area. Convenient walking distance from my downtown hotel. Had dinner with friends and everyone loved their meals. I had the Ruben and was 10/10. Chicken Marsala and shrimp étouffée were also winners from my table mates. I believe the shrimp dish was on their Mardi Gras menu which may not be avail all the time. The sweet potato fries with sweet whiskey sauce ate like candy; so very good. Large menu and draft list. Along with the black and tan drafts ubiquitous in Irish pubs there were some other delicious choices like the blue pear (blue moon/pear cider) which I enjoyed. I came back the next day for lunch and had the Irish egg rolls and would definitely order them again. Service was friendly and prompt and had no issues while here on either visit. Every time I come to this place I can't help but feel satisfied. The staff is very welcoming as they always greet you when you walk in, even if the place is busy. Waiters/waitresses come back to the table in an adequate amount of time. The food is always great, I can tell it's made fresh every time. My person favorite is their Rueben I highly recommend it. The crowd is also very welcoming! You can bring your family here for a meal or you can bring the gang and have a great time. This place has a little bit of everything, you can even gamble here! This restaurant/Irish pub just looks so familiar. I believe its cause there are many scattered across the US. This location is in an old building in Downtown and has several seating areas. It has a loft area above the main bar, booth seating on the back left and right, and a private area for events on the east side of the restaurant, with its own separate bar. They have a lengthy menu, but I decided on a burger because I was craving one, and the bartender recommended it. I was able to choose medium rare, so that s a good sign that its fresh beef. I chose onion rings as my side, for no additional charge. Although it was a 22 degree night when I walked in, it was very warm inside the restaurant. I ordered a brown ale since its a good bet most Irish bars have one. They also have 1919 root beer on draft, so I got one of those too! The burger was Indeed fresh; however, it was a perfectly circular patty so it was machine formed. Still, a decent tasting burger. It was cooked perfectly and slathered generously with their bbq sauce. The onion rings are beer battered and on the smaller side, and were tasty as well. Overall, a decent experience. My mom had a burger which she enjoyed while my father had the soup and salad combo. The waitress was socially awkward and couldn't hold a conversation. She brought my mom the wrong drink and when I asked for sweetener (for my mom's iced tea), she thought it was for my beer...strange. Had a great experience at Blarney Stone Pub! Came in on a Friday around 7:30pm and our server was super friendly and attentive. He was not joking when he said the kitchen is really quick with food. They were almost quicker than our drinks! Lol The food you will find here is typical bar/pub style food but nevertheless quite tasty and filling. I'm glad this local pub is still able to operate. The tables are not too close together, and the booths have high backs, which not only gives you privacy, but is great for social distancing. The vibe here is friendly with lots of regulars, and the waiters even sang Christmas songs for us. They have a nice selection of beers on tap, as well as some fun cocktails. I recommend the "Grow a Pear" which is a combination of vodka, St. Germaine (elderflower liqueur) and champagne. The Reuben sandwich is also a real winner! As a soft-blooded Californian, I arrived in Bismarck last weekend wondering how North Dakotans could possibly survive the winter plains. Turns out, they have a secret weapon. You could probably spend an entire winter in the Blarney Stone. Heck, I wouldn't mind throwing in late Spring and early Fall as well. Food and drink are of course necessary for survival, so I'll start with a fun fact about the Blarney Stone reuben sandwich- A few of my family members (coastal guys like me) are such big fans of the sandwich that they fly to Bismarck on Labor Day Weekend every year just to eat it. You heard that right, the Reuben sandwich is worth interstate air travel. The waffle fries accompanying the sandwich are also impressively crispy. As for drinks, you'll find a solid selection beer and spirits that will keep your body warm and your spirits high. The pub also has tons of space for activities. The brick walls boast TVs for every sporting event you could imagine, and among its many rooms you'll find two bars along with a small casino. I highly recommend this spot, and the Reuben! read more
