Master Ali and his coaching staff go beyond teaching BJJ. They teach discipline, self-confidence, communication skills, and life lessons like how to deal with bullies. When demonstrating a technique, they ask the kids questions about it to keep them engaged and make sure they're paying attention. Everything at A-Team is earned, nothing is given. Stripes and belts aren't handed out just because you pay the monthly fee. You can always tell he loves what he teaches. The students pay a fixed fee. The good thing is they can come as many times during the week as they want to. Sensei Doan explains how each body shift, arm and leg movement, block, strike, kick in each kata can be used in practical ways. He analyzes kata and extracts fighting techniques from the movements of a "form" (kata). My kids get excited to see how they can apply the techniques they learn in the Katas. They look forward to attend these special sessions of the week. One thing I like about this Dojo is all students come here to learn. Sensei Doan always emphasizes how important it is for each student to concentrate on the lessons and improve his or her techniques to the next level. He teaches his students to respect themselves to earn the respect from others. I find that the way the average martial art is taught usually doesn't translate to sparring and fighting. Training and fighting become two different things. I think Paul has transcended that and shares his discoveries with you from a the fighter's perspective. He also addresses the mental aspect of fighting as well. In my perspective, he's a true martial artist and a warrior not just a teacher that rehashes curriculum in a set of patterns that may not apply in the real world.
