About a week later, I was very excited to see an email come in with the header/title "Great News!". Imagine my disappointment when I open the email only to see it's just advertisement for more positions. Ummm...what about the ones I APPLIED TO? 2 days after that, I got another email with the title "Next Steps". I wasn't so excited this time. As expected, it was just more positions. And the spamming continued. 2 weeks after I initially applied for the positions, I got a response. Unfortunately, I was being passed over for one of the positions. That's fine, at least I got an answer. I still haven't heard back about the other 4. KICKER: 1 week after I was declined, I was sent an email for the position I was declined for. The email didn't have a bunch of positions in it...Just. That. One. Now, I realize how things are these days. Everything is automated, yadda yadda...apply your butt off, get no response is the norm. It is an awful practice, but it is what it is for now. But, to get an email from AN EMPLOYEE at Randstad (not just from Randstad.com) for a particular position that you were already declined for AND without hearing about the other positions you've applied for? Bad business. Don't waste your time.

I came here to get an official typing certificate. This location is easy to get to, and they have their own parking lot which is shared with Concord College and 24 hr Fitness. It was crowded at 11am on a Thursday, but I didn't have too much trouble finding parking. Upon walking in there is a reception desk to the left, and a spacious hall to the right, with computer stations that I am assuming are used for job searches and applications, as no one was using them at the time. I was greeted by a very hospitable woman with lovely green shaded dreads, and she directed me where to go. Ms. Barbara and Ms.Christine were a hoot. They made me feel like I was home visiting my mom and auntie I swear they are the best. I didn't get my WPM up to my usual standard, but I walked away with a certificate nonetheless, with some encouragement and cheering from my newly found family members I didn't know I had. I will be back to up my WPM certification soon.

In the meantime, they got all my personal information, then ignored my calls and email messages for weeks. I started the process three months before the semester began, and my appointment with the counselor ended up taking place about two weeks after the semester started. I think they do this intentionally, just to make sure you don't get the course. Who knows what they actually do with the money. All I got from them was a lot of candy-coated smoke and broken promises. What a giant waste of my time and energy, not to mention that I won't get the training I was hoping for to get a job. I can't wait another six months for the new semester. What a shame when so many people are in need of finances for health insurance, groceries, gas...that our government funds "organizations" like this.
