If you are considering this practice, know this up front. I was billed ten times my expected…read moreinsurance cost, and nobody told me beforehand. I came in for an evaluation with Dr. Shook after texting the office ahead of time to ask about insurance, since I also wanted to book my mom for the same day. It took four full days to get a reply, and when it came, it only addressed Mom's Medicare not being accepted. Nothing was said about my own insurance, Sendero, not being accepted. I cancelled my appointment at that time and decided I would rebook at a later date, which gave them ample time to evaluate my insurance and whether it was accepted. That should be standard practice for any professional healthcare establishment. I found that out after my appointment, when my card was charged $200 with no conversation about cost beforehand. My plan lists a $20 copay for this kind of visit. Ten times that landed on my card with zero warning. When I disputed the charge with my bank, the practice claimed they had emailed me a cost disclosure six days before my appointment. I never received that email. My own text history with them from that shows no mention of Sendero or a $200 fee at all, only the Medicare question for my mom. I work in healthcare myself. I know the pressures of running a small practice. That is not the issue here. The issue is that this practice does not disclose cost up front, will charge whatever card is on file without confirming you understand you are paying full retail, and offers no real resolution once you push back. I want to be clear that Dr. Shook's clinical work was excellent and i would rate that part of the experience 5 stars. My issue is entirely with how money and communication are handled here. There is no front desk and no clear check in process, I sat in an empty waiting room until I let myself into the treatment area because I heard someone inside. If you carry any insurance besides what they clearly prefer, get your coverage and cost confirmed in writing before you book. They will not volunteer it.

Dr. Davis at Training Room ATX is the real deal…read more First off, he's just a great dude. Blunt in the best way, funny, optimistic, and clearly someone who cares deeply about doing things the right way. You can tell he comes from a military background, not because he's rigid, but because his intent is always about getting the job done with high standards and real purpose. I've been going to him for a couple of years now. I'm 38, play men's league baseball, and I'm definitely not in the best shape of my life. Still, Dr. Davis has made it possible for me to keep playing, stay on the field, and actually contribute to my team's success. More than once, he's done something in a session that made me stop and think, "Whoa... I can actually do that better than I thought." What really sets him apart is his practicality. I have a home gym, sent him a picture of it, and he completely nailed a customized workout plan around my nagging injuries: no extreme stuff, no gimmicks, just clever, realistic, practical work. I tend to play like I forget I'm 38, and he helps keep me honest and functional. He's incredibly knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor, and as a teacher who's on his feet and mentally drained all day, I genuinely look forward to my sessions with him. That says a lot. Highly recommend Dr. Davis and Training Room ATX to athletes, or honestly, anyone who wants to get better. You'll be in great hands.

The entry is serene with white noise machines on the doors to keep what's behind them nice and relaxed. The lobby had several things to look at while waiting. Once JP finished the session before, the table linens were changed and I was brought in to review what needed attention. Since I was there specifically for my left shoulder, that was the focus. I did a 30 minutes session which went by wayyy too quick. JP did a great job of going slow to not cause any discomfort and asked how the pressure was along the way. Talk about relaxing! I'm intrigued to see how the area feels after a nights rest as I've been dealing with the issue for several months. Despite doing PT, there's was something not quite getting to the exact location of he tension. I could feel the areas I've been missing with trigger point in myself being addressed during the massage. Talk about a win! The cost wasn't too bad, $65 for 30 and I will do an hour next round to do a full body massage. The venue was quaint and quite perfect for relaxation.

I want to express a huge thanks to Dr. Gumbs on helping me race my first half marathon and return…read moreto running after so many years of having being down and out due to injury. Years ago as a teen cross country runner, I had regularly gotten sidelined because of overuse injuries. I experienced multiple stress fractures in both tibias and my foot. Following high school, I suffered from lingering chronic leg pain in my left leg that just never left -- in fact it affected me for over a decade through my twenties and early thirties. Over that span, I couldn't consistently run without the pain overwhelming me. I missed running and racing a lot! However, my journey changed for the better once I started working with Dr. Gumbs. Like me, Dr. Gumbs had been a competitive runner, and he knew what it was like to battle injuries that felt intractable. He had been through a similar situation in college. Nevertheless, I was skeptical of physical therapy in general. I had been to a ton of PT when I was a runner in high school, and looking back, I was so disappointed by it. The experience for me was not personalized at all -- I would get only 5-10 minutes to talk to the PT, before they would send me to do a list of exercises by myself while they moved on to the next patient. Fortunately, Dr. Gumbs was absolutely nothing like that. All of our sessions were one-on-one and his focus was very personalized. Our first session was 90 minutes long, and he thoroughly listened to me talk through my injury history. He asked me tons of questions and examined my movements -- comparing especially the performance of my left vs. right leg. He walked me through the science of how chronic pain is different than short-term, acute pain. He put together a treatment plan that not only targeted my inner leg (where it hurt most), but also my hip and back, which were weak/tight and contributing to the leg pain. He would carefully make sure I was performing the exercises correctly, and as we met each week, he would re-examine my movements, hear how my week went, and add new exercises based on my progress. One week, he filmed me running on a treadmill, and we spent quite a bit of time examining both the strengths and inefficiencies of my gait. He helped me set up a running plan, in addition to an exercise and stretch plan. My pain wasn't solved overnight, but as I stayed consistent with the training plan, it became less noticeable. I started to build the confidence to run again without fear, and eventually I was able to build up to running over an hour non-stop. When I felt ready, I signed up for the 3M Half Marathon and finished in under 2 hours. After years of struggle, I NEVER thought that I could achieve that. But now that I have, my next goal is to race a marathon. It's hard to express how much it means to me to return to running and racing, because it was such an important part of my life that was lost for so long. Without Dr. Gumbs' care, patience, knowledge and support, I would not have gotten this far. For that, I can't express how happy and grateful I am!
