This Filipino market has all essential for making delicious home cooked meals I can find so many ingredients here I was beyond thrilled ! They gave so many options too, whether it's vegetables, sauces , delicious bread, chips, seasoning, noodles, frozen things, refrigerated things, desserts and cookware. Not only do they have just Filipino things here they have a variety of Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese , a bit of all the Asian countries! The staff are all so super friendly and super down to earth! I felt so warm & comfortable here. I had some trouble looking for some Calamansi ( which is a Filipino lime ), Judie saw I was having trouble looking for something she quickly helped me . I was so thrilled to find them. I think their price points are amazing! Especially for the great quality & Freshness of groceries here! Judie was so kind, caring sweet, she was super polite, down to earth! She has this upbeat positive vibe about herself that really radiates! She is your rarest of Diamond, her shine will never fade! I did also talk to a young man there he was super sweet & kind, so a big shout out to him! Ever since moving to Coachella Valley, I have been coming here to supply my pantry with all my Filipino essentials. Patis, Datu Puti Soy Sauce and Vinegar, Alamang, Bagoong, Sinigang and Kare Kare powders, jufran banana ketchup, and Ox and Palm corned beef. They have all the essentials. They even sell some Valerios bakery goodies at the front near the check out. The vegetable selection is also pretty decent: ampalaya, okra, talong, a wide selection of pechay and root crops. It's honestly a life saver and a gem for the Filipino community of the desert. The store is very small and can feel crammed at times, but I am so happy this place exists. Mom and I like this Asian market much better than Fil which is close by in cathedral city. This one is right across the street from the airport and you can watch the airplanes land right over your head! fil market has a lot of cooked food and this one is only a market which we want. The owners are so nice and helpful. They have lots of great Asian food , fresh , frozen, canned , bottled, noodles, and much more. We will be back for sure. read more

I've been watching a cooking series by a great Asian chef on TV. His advice was to visit an Asian market to find the special ingredients that give the dishes their authentic flavors. AJ Market is great! It's an international grocery store. The shelves are stocked with all those wonderful ingredients the chef teaches. The store makes great use of its compact space while remaining friendly and inviting. AJ Market has much better customer service than typical grocery stores. At AJ Market, my request to find one particular ingredient was met by the shopkeeper personally walking me to the right section. You won't find mylar balloons or overblown cardboard displays. Instead you'll find highest quality ingredients that the big stores don't carry. In the past, I could never quite get an Asian dish prepared right. Now thanks to AJ Market I have to the right ingredients to bring a great dish to the table for my family. 5-stars for variety of products. 5-stars for customer service. 5-stars for fair prices. 5-stars overall. I have been cooking a lot more at home and I was turned on to to this place by my local Thai restaurant. I wanted to make Curry at home. I always thought it was me. Turns out the ingredients are super important. The curry and coconut milk they sell is total game changer. I was in a bind one night and went with the $6 cans at Bristol farms and couldn't make it because the coconut milk was just so gross. Staff is lovely, helpful and the prices are fantastic. *AJ is A-Okay* Found this cute & modest Asian Market on Yelp while searching for Japanese grocery stores. Unfortunately, there's none in the Coachella Valley :( I had decided to check out AJ's while in the area and planned a visit on my way back home...and glad I did because even tho I only found one thing to purchase, the owners of this family-owned store were so sweet & kind...and treated me as if I just spent $100 opposed to the $1.89 I actually spent. I even told them "I'm sorry I'm not buying more, but thought I'd maybe find some Japanese food items here" and their thoughtful response was "that's okay, at least you found something." :-) If Filipino & Korean grocery stores is your thing, this is most definitely the right place for you. It's not a large store, but they do a nice job stocking & packing in a wide variety of merchandise in a neat and clean space...and some everyday items too -- all at very reasonable prices. They also carry produce...and from my understanding, they drive into LA 2-3 times a week for the freshest produce they can find to offer to their regular customers. If only they carried some Japanese food items -- I'd make special trips and become a regular too. AJ's is in an unassuming location within an industrial & commercial area, not too far from the PS Airport. There's parking right smack in front so you don't need to walk too far if your shopping spree contents are too heavy. Visiting Palm Springs and realize that there is very limited Asian grocery stores. I'm so happy that I stumble upon AJ market because they have literally almost everything that I needed to make some homemade curry. Everything in the store is super affordable and not overly priced. Although just a heads up that it is not your typical American grocery store . The aisles are really tight space but it reminds me of a really cute hole in the wall Asian grocery store. Love this store! If i'm honest, i expected it to be on the small side and not filled with much. But they're quite the contender. Especially here in the Coachella Valley. They have a large variety of produce and dry goods. They also have many different style noodles, oils, sauces, etc. I was really impressed with the availability of items. It's quite a bit of a drive for me when this is my only destination in the area, but it's worth it. I think Friday is there shipment days so I know if i come late on a friday or early saturday, the desserts and veggies are super fresh. AAAAAAND this place has sriracha! Moved here from Chicago. Luckily I found AJ for majority of my Asian food and supplies. Not to mentioned its family run and they're super nice! One day I brought the wrong debit card and I didn't have anything else to pay with. One of the lady owner asked if I lived near. I said yes... She told me just to come back and pay her later... I was so embarrassed but at the same time so grateful that she even trusted me! Of course I went back the same day to pay her back but that shows how sweet these people are!!! What a great little market. While it is primarily Filipino, it has enough pan-Asian products to fill in. While it isn't H-mart, nor Mitsuwa, it fills a significant need in the desert. Coming from NJ, I am used to having a plethora of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, generic Asian, and Vietnamese groceries from which to choose. This little market is an absolute goldmine! I'm originally from the Bay Area where there are many Asian markets to choose from so moving to Palm Desert 6 years ago felt like a daunting task to secure what I want for Thai/ Vietnamese/Korean cooking that I do at home but A J Market is FANTASTIC and has everything I need in fresh produce, frozen goods plus anything else you could ask for to stock your pantry. Great place to buy your favorite Asian ingredients. Their frozen Gyoza choices are fantastic, among other great dumpling varieties. Beware it gets busy, they have a very small parking lot. There are only two Asian stores in the desert. My mother wanted lumpia wrappers and lucky for us they had lots of them. The great thing was that that open early vs the other store. My mom came out of the store with more than lumpia's wrappers and the clerk help carry them out!!! read more

Tucked away in an industrial neighborhood and directly in the glide path of the Palm Springs Airport, Aj Market is a hidden gem. Friendly staff welcomed us as we carefully looked at every item in this jam-packed store. Aj has a wonderful selection of fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable goodies. I was especially impressed with the wide array of sauces, condiments, and flavorings. There is a large section of produce that is both interesting and unusual. Aj offers a number of different noodle products in the refrigerated section. I wish they carried Asian beers, but that is not a criticism. Prices are very reasonable and we will certainly be back! In this modest store is a wide collection of Japanese, Pilipino, Thai and Chinese condiments, sauces, noodles and spices. There are frozen and produce items as well. Aj Oriental Market is so well stocked and the owners are helpful and very well mannered. I'm amazed this oasis exists in the middle of the desert... had no idea there was a Filippino population large enough to support a gem like this. I see mostly 5-star reviews and I totally agree with those folks. The 1-star review I found a bit contradictory. I mean IF the store smelled of sewage (I've never experienced that at all.. the store is clean every time I go), IF It's overpriced (I disagree with that too... you DO know it's a speciality market in the middle of the Coachella Valley, right?), and IF the stock 'looks like it's been there for years', then why would you buy Longaniza OF ALL THINGS?!? (for those of you who might not know, Longaniza is a sausage!). Yeah, something smells fishy with that review and it's not AJ's Market. So, Ms Suplada from Vancouver's review aside, you can trust the reviews. And seeing Filippino food is the trend right now, if you're not familiar with the cuisine (I'm a plain old white guy who likes to cook, so that's what I do) look up one of the many amazing recipes online, gather your list, go to AJ's Oriental Market and have a wonderful adventure shopping and cooking. Oh and do what I do when I go to a speciality market that deals in regional cuisines... bring the recipe with you and as soon as you spot another shopper who looks like they might have the inside scoop on the cuisine (preferably a, how do I say this(?) a 'well-seasoned, mature cook) and approach her/him asking questions about the ingredients. So happy to find this place. Perfect for the Filipino Chinese Japanese snacks cookies chips and candies you crave. Plus they have all the fish sauces, sweet sour, tapioca powder, sesame oil etc ingredients that you need for that special dish! Canned tropical fruits for the dessert dishes! Frozen fish and meatballs! Sausages! Sweet breads. So much convenience for Asian cooking without having to drive to LA for your groceries. On top of that they have fresh produce like Bok choy, GAi lan, taro, lemongrass, bitter melon, eggplant, string beans, daikon and more ! They're open daily 7-9 and the staff was friendly.
