On my most recent trip to Palm Desert I stopped in to dine at their cafe. To my surprise it was closed permanently according to the posted sign and breakfast options are now premade and available under heat lamps and at a price of $10.50 a pound with the exception of the breakfast burritos. I opted for a breakfast burrito which was made with quality ingredients. The burrito tasted clean, non-greasy and filling. I totally understand why they closed the cafe with the cost of labor and overhead increasing. The new set up is self-service and they still offer a good size dining area and free wifi so you can enjoy a meal or beverage. read more

This is a hidden gem within a grocery store chain (Bristol Farm's). The server (Carla) was soooo friendly and helping. She takes orders with a huge smile. Let me start with, I truly miss the San Diego and Irvine locations. Bristol Farms has spoiled me on a few things... Poke and Cookies! The San Diego location was close to my work, and their Poke is THE best, on par with what I considered to be great in Hawaii! When we are in the area, we always stop by the Palm Desert location. They are extremely friendly and helpful; the store is always super clean and organized. The layout is very consumer friendly, and they have so many great things to offer. They have great selections that you won't find in a lot of typical grocery stores, their cheese selection is fantastic, they have a great selection of very high-quality meats and unique produce. They offer great selections of premade, hot food as well as their own cafe with a nice little area that you can sit and eat your food. As I mentioned in the beginning, the stand outs for me are the Poke and the cookies! They have a Poke Bar, and their Ahi is amazing! Quick tip, ask for your sushi rice separately so that you are not paying poke prices, for rice. They will happily place it in a container separately for you. Their Cookies are amazing! I still prefer their original chocolate chip, but I don't hate on the peanut butter ones. They always have a buy 6 get 1 free deal that is hard to pass up. These cookies also DO freeze well, and I was told you can get them par baked if you are planning on picking them up to travel with them back home and you don't live close, although I have not tried this yet. There's 13 Bristol Farms Market locations in the U.S. -- all in California. But for the past 18 months, my favorite Bristol is in Palm Desert bordering Rancho Mirage. Without being repetitive and ranting as I can do with my previous review, I feel the need to express myself again because Bristol Farms has bridged the gap from a 4 to a High-5 The Sushi Bar: Anna, Daniel and Rick are so friendly, helpful and as legit as the fresh fish. They're happy to please your palette with freshly made sushi & sashimi, if what you're looking for or craving isn't already premade in the cold case counter. IMO it's the best bang for the buck sushi in town. POKE' BAR: Fresh & Delish. But I prefer sushi rice than what's provided. Service Deli: 3 words -- Ted, Brisket Period (Ted in the service deli is the best and takes serious pride in his smokehouse Brisket skills and provides exemplary service to all customers) The pulled pork is better than I expected. Hot Food Bar: I don't eat too much Chinese Food, but they have the best Orange Chicken. They use real chicken breast that's lightly coated in tempura batter. The orange sauce is so delicious and not too think nor salty. Whenever I'm craving Chinese Food, this is the only place for me (unless I want Chinese Chicken Salads) And the freshly made daily roasted turkey & gravy is pretty pretty pretty good too. Bristol Cafe: Excellent food, quality ingredients, large portions, reasonably priced, and outstanding customer service from the entire team -- especially Carla. (if you want to learn more, search for my Bristol Cafe review on Yelp) Bakery: Excellent but pricey. My favs are the vegan donuts, bagels and cookies. The grocery items at BFM are priced more than I like to pay at other places I shop, but Bristol Farms has great weekly sales, discounts and promos that make routine weekly visits more worth while for me, and wifey too. They also carry a few items we rely on that no others do. And Benny in Produce is so awesome & helpful. Most of the cashiers are friendly & helpful but would like to see more checkout stands open during peak hours. The past 18 months I've spent most of my time in the Coachella Valley and eat most meals at home, so I shop at lots of grocery stores. I embrace the challenge of balancing quality and value. But for me, I can't live without Bristol Farms for the reasons mentioned above and that's why they're still in my grocery store starting rotation. I do my shopping at Aldi's, Costco and sometimes Sprouts. I dropped by Bristol Farms to get a Sesame Sauce that was unavailable anywhere else. I was highly impressed. Bristol Farms seems to be Whole Foods without the hype(?) They are a bit upscale and stock some interesting things not found in the standard stores. Vegetables looked great, deli section lured me in for some salami. I'm not going to be a regular here because of the distance, but I do appreciate that they stock items not available elsewhere. Outdoor Seating, Dog Friendly! It's been a while since I've been in a Bristol farms, I was in the mood for pizza unfortunately, I think this location stopped selling pizza? They did have a hot bar but the food did not look pleasing. The sushi looked ok and the fresh poke also, did not look good. I decided to grab a sando but those were overpriced, nothing special about them, they were pre-packaged an no one was at the sandwich station. After that experience I probably would not step into a Bristol Farms again. We shall see........ read more

I asked simply where to find baby cucumbers cause I didn't see them. This man gave me the biggest sigh and acted as tho I asked him to move heaven and earth. He was an ass and extremely belittling. Lately, we're all trying to eat better and be mindful of our budgets. For my birthday, I received a new grill, so to celebrate, we decided to pick up some special steaks. Here's where our disappointment began: Bristol Farms had $40-per-pound grass-fed filet mignon steaks that were gray--not pink, and definitely not fresh, in my opinion. My wife asked the butcher if he could cut two fresh steaks. He simply replied, "It's your choice." We clarified that yes, we would like a fresh cut of meat, but all he did was stand there and look back at us. Nothing more. We realized he was not going to help us at all, so we emptied our cart and left. We won't be returning. Costco has great meat. So does Whole Foods. read more

We discovered kefir cheese at Palm Springs Village Fest; kefir cheese is yogurt-like... but so much smoother, and creamy. After that first cup we wanted more. I called Bristol Farms and the lady who answer quickly confirmed that they have several flavors, so we were soon there in the right-wall refrigeration case picking among several flavors... mango, cherry, strawberry, gig, vanilla, and more. Bristol Farms is an upscale grocery store, similar to Whole Foods. We were staying a week at our resort club a few miles away and shopped at Bristol Farms to stock up on groceries for our vacation. The deli is impressive with many selections of salads, meats, sides, and desserts and the service at the counter is excellent. Wine selection is good but not special. Produce had some nice finds, but I was surprised to find damaged and less than optimal quality fruit among the piles. A nice cheese department and a solid bakery round out a top quality, but expensive!!! store. read more

They are a more upscale boutique style grocery store. Things cost more but they'll always have higher end options and go out of their way to have presentation, which will draw you to items you don't always think about. Like any chain store look for their sales and buy accordingly. read more

Let's start off by saying I love this store it's a jewel to have here in the desert. I especially love their food quality and friendly customer service that is for the majority of the time. Yet, I have to say that I am very disappointed with the deli department. I've noticed that all summer the deli's salads and soups are taken out or halfway point. Deli has been very inconsistent making difficult in choosing what kind of salad there is available to choose from. I've noticed that their department manager Nati always setting them up and he takes forever with nonsense of urgency behind his steps. Making it difficult for the employees to give exceptional customer service and for the customer to have efficient, fast paced service. Maybe he should just manage his department and let his crew handle the work load because he's hurting business with his sluggishness ways. read more

We stopped by here before we arrived at our hotel to buy some snacks and get a quick bite to eat. I was sort of wanting a "create your own" salad bar but they only had pre-packaged salads. They do have extensive options however for ready made food; a hot bar, a deli for made to order sandwiches, fresh bbq meats/sides, sushi, a poke bar and you can't forget "The Cookie." I did want to give a shout out to the guy in the BBQ section. He stopped my husband and me walking by just to offer us a sample of pork belly. I ordered a 4 bone prime rib, mashed potatoes, green beans and bread. The instructions for the reheat said 45 minutes at 325....the meat was cooked only lightly on the outside...the dinner was ruined. The mashed potatoes were runny with the odd chunk of potato through out...the green beans were just ok. This was going to be a yearly event..stopping by on our way out to Arizona...I'll never return or buy another item from Bristol Farms as long as I am alive. I love this store! Ordered Easter Dinner from the Deli and it was really good, Restaurant quality. The only disappointment was the carrot cake I ordered from the Bakery, it was way, way too sweet, we couldn't eat it. That is how the young man who was the one who said we should get the mismarked price saw it was marked incorrectly. Its not the first time I've ever been to a Bristol Farms but I have to let you in on a little secret about me... I hate grocery shopping. That DOES NOT MEAN... that I don't like to obtain excellent delicious quality and local organic food... no no no... I just don't like leaving the house, dealing with this heat and then walking over hot tarmac back to my car with the groceries ! It's not a pleasant experience. Since this is the ONLY Bristol Farms in this area then ... what can you do except support your local Bristol Farms.. From artisanal cheeses and cured meats to freshly-baked bread and pastries, this place has it all. I even found some rare and hard-to-find ingredients that I've been searching for! The prices are a bit on the high side, but I truly believe that you get what you pay for. This store is 2nd on my list of the 3 top groceries stores that I personally find to have the BEST food items and other specialities but Gelson's definitely is my # 1.
