We love Cardenas Markets kitchen. We usually visit the one in Murrieta and this one in Cathedral City specifically for their chilaquiles. We know that breakfast stop at 11am so we hurried to make it before that time. When I ordered my usual the lady said that they don't make them on weekends. I was honestly shocked because I know we have gotten them on weekends. I even told her that it was up on in the screen and she said rudely "I know but we don't make them on the weekend" seemed like she just didn't want to make them. read more

I love their mini avocados and specials that used to be weekly ~~ 3 for $0.99....and tho ever since the new tariffs began, they still offer some good deals but less often... Wifey & I love all their delicious freshly made self-serve tamales (at least 6 types) kickin' it inside the warm steamy bins next to the hot food counter & cafe... The hot food counter & cafe has some decent food and great daily deals: $1.25 Taco Tuesdays ~~ 10 different types of protein to choose from + all the street taco fixings. They're pretty good and the value too $6 8-piece Pollo Asado with Corn Tortillas & Salsa on Weds & Thurs. The chicken is pretty good, when it's not overcooked, but the cooks are way too heavy-handed with the salt ~~ I prefer the pollo asado marination process and flavor to speak for itself $6 Burrito Fridays ~~ 10 different types of protein to choose from + all the standard fixings. Decent for the value & size Large assortment of fresh made ceviche...I think they're just okay...but they're all reasonably priced Pretty good salsa bar but sometimes they're too busy (or lazy) to refill & restock and clean up the area...and they need to label the different types of salsas so most costumers like me don't need to guess which is which When the hot food counter line is long it moves pretty quickly -- especially when the regular customers know what they want before it's their turn to order... The service from all the lovely ladies is friendly. Tho some of the team members don't speak English, my High School Spanish comes in handy. And bonus points because they always wear gloves while handing & serving food. The self-checkout gals on the grocery side of store are very friendly & helpful... The store in general is usually clean & tidy...and the aisles are wide which is a major plus in my grocery shopping playbook... Lots of parking within the shopping plaza... Tho I don't shop here too much for groceries, Cardenas Market is still a key member within my grocery store bullpen for their Cafe, tamales and avocados... And at least once a month, they earn a well-deserved Save or a Pinch-hit Stand-up Triple when called upon. read more

Officially no reason to come here. Have had two back-to-back experiences of buying bad cheese and bad meat. Today we had bought a cheese that had today's date on it. Once we got home and opened the bag, it smelled awful and tasted terrible. We immediately got back in the car and drove back to the store where we were offered either a refund or a new cheese. Mind you we don't live close to the store, we were on a time crunch, and we were promised quality cheese given the date of the packaging. The store refused to compensate us so we asked for a manager. The manager then came with a terrible attitude, and never once apologized to us for the inconvenience. Eventually, we got our refund and our products but with a lot of attitude and no apology. As someone who's worked customer service i don't know how they let this shit fly. State bros and food for less customer service is way nicer and more compensating just go there instead! read more

I went to buy grilled chicken. I asked for a receipt from a young Hispanic woman in glasses who helped me, but I don't know if she speaks English or pretends not to understand, but she refused to give me the receipt. On top of that, the customer response was also very irreverent. It's a place that sells South American food materials, but this is the United States. At least, I think the staff who can communicate basic should interact with the customer. I bought fruit and vegetables a few months ago, but the cashier accidentally paid for it with another item, so I got a correction from the custom service. read more

i would like to give my experience at Cardenas today. I needed some tortillas corn to be precise. I live by myself, and the only thing that was left were packages of three dozen tortillas, which would last me forever. I only needed a small amount so I went up to the counter where a man named Javier was working. This man was the nicest, most helpful, most considerate person that I have come across in a long time. He was pleasant. Had a very nice smile on his face that was very sincere. He went out of his way to help me and personally went to the warmer and wrapped me up six tortillas which is all I needed. I can't believe I was going to go to Food 4 Less, but I'm so glad that I decided to come here. Please PLEADE tell Javier how much he is appreciated. Give him the credit he deserves. The place is spotless, the staff is helpful, the variety is impressive and there are lots of bargains to be found. Whole chicharrón the size of a small child, large bottle of avocado oil for $8, tres leches that will make you slap your mama, etc. A must visit. Highly recommend this place for produce and all things Mexican/Hispanic. Produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. Herbs and spices are fresh. I love using Nopales and this is where you would have to come to get this. Additionally the flan is outstanding. If you need a dessert in a pinch this is your go to! Went back primarily for vegetables. Purchased some shrimp for ceviche from the counter. The person charged the incorrect price, per-pound, essentially overcharging by 100%. Make sure if you do purchase that the per-pound price matches what is displayed in the window of the case. I didn't check until I was home. That is a mistake I will not make again. read more

So disappointed! We ordered via DoorDash 1 chicken burrito & 1 carnitas burrito. EVERY piece of meat in each burrito was dry as jerky, and the flour tortilla was the texture of an old dish towel. Even though we ordered 1 roja salsa & 1 verde, none was included. Funny thing is....we hesitated ordering from a local Mexican restaurant & decided to go with the tried & true Cardenas. Wow. Had the worst experience today. Within three minutes of leaving my phone I went back to get it and it was gone. I knew my phone was left in the store because my watch was able to locate it DANIEL. The manager would not help he would not look at the video cameras. Stephanie in the cages told me if I called 911 that the police would fine me because it wasn't an emergency. We called 911 regardless. They found my phone in the employees locker room on top of the cubbies. Because we were persistent and called the police and wouldn't leave without my phone and did our own investigation. That is why we got the phone back. It took over an hour, but we wouldn't leave the store. This is the cathedral city store. read more

We recently purchased a vacation/retirement home in Cathedral City and we've been spending a lot of time out here, so a reliable grocery store is a must. I'm married to a Mexican woman and my mother-in-law also lives with us, so finding an ethnic market that caters to their wants/needs, while providing all the stuff that I crave, is essential. We've been very impressed with Cardenas' overall selections of Hispanic specialty items, the store layout and décor (bright and colorful), and its cleanliness. When we're home in the LA area, we usually shop at Northgate Gonzales Markets, but there are none of those in the desert, only in LA and San Diego. My wife commented that the produce is slightly better at Northgate, but it's still very good at Cardenas and we feel that the entire rest of the store is an upgrade from Northgate. The staff is super nice, aisles are wide, shelves are well-stocked, even with the current situation, and the meats and "homemade" foods are very high quality and reasonable prices. They do a great job of limiting crowds inside and cleaning the carts between uses and they provide hand sanitizer inside the front door. Glad we found Cardenas and they're not too far from the house, so this will be our new "go to" for food and sundries. read more

I am going five stars for Cardenas Market. Firstly, they have great produce and low, low prices. We left with four bags of groceries at about half the typical price of WF. Secondly, if you like Mexican Cuisine like I do, this market has everything you could want. Delightful Mexican Pastries, all kinds of breads, packaged products and canned foods, Mexican cheeses like you have never seen before, picked veggies, fresh spices, the real coca cola, a hot counter for entrees to go, aisles of MEXICAN CANDY!!!, meats, fresh seafood, and a crazy bakery counter with the bonus of many flavors of agua fresca. Third and finally, the staff are nice people, they are really helpful and friendly. I throughly enjoyed shopping here. Tonight we are having super nachos for dinner! Worst racist experience I have ever experienced in my life here. On 01/14/2021 I went in to get a fresh juice, ordered a green one. There were two women behind the counter. I asked for ice and they began to speak in Spanish saying "Siempre quieren más" weird , it was only me, asking for a simple drink only with ice. Then the woman makes my drink and picks a dirty rag OFF OF THE FLOOR and wipes the underside of where the juice comes out . The other lady laughs. She then sticks my cup under the machine to make my juice, periodically stopping to use the SAME RAG on the same place. The other woman continues to laugh. Mind you, I am watch this entire thing with tears in my eyes shocked. (Brown skin does not , equal NOT fluent in Spanish) She then goes the to ice machine. Takes the SAME RAG. To wipe off the stand where you put the cup to catch the ice, and let's the ice fall onto the stand and picks the ice up in her hand and stuffs it into the hole of the top over a sink so the drink is spilling out The other lady laughs and laughs. The one making my drink goes "Todos son cochinos" . She then brings me my drink. Takes some other random rag and wipes my drink off (on top around the sides) and gives me my total $5.00 something. I pay for it. Mortified but thinking okay, I can tell the manager or something. I go try and speak with a manager and the manager is called twice by a cashier and then the manager sees me standing there and just leaves the store. I then reach out to the HR customer service representative the next . She laughs at my story and calls me "colored" . I then reach out to KKR and send emails. No response. No apology. No nothing. Hoping that your stores will treat everyone equally and that no one actually will get sick behind another employee doing this to another customer. read more

As convenient as Cardenas is for groceries I will not ever shop here again! Self check out is a joke! They had zero registers open today when I went. I can normally get thru self check out when I have a few things. Today I had more groceries and was forced to go thru self check out. The machine kept stopping me because of the sensitivity of the bagging area I had to wait for an associate to come sign in each time. Between standing there checking out and having to wave down an associate over 15 times I was so over it! I spent more time at the register than I did shopping. Bring back the cashiers!!!! read more

What a big bright beautiful store! Piñatas hanging like Christmas decorations from the ceiling. Everything looks so colorful and fresh. And speaking of color, the produce department radiates with vibrancy. Even the music was a lively modern Latino flare. This store carries many organic and healthy food items along with the typical Hispanic foods. The pandaria display is immense. Items were freshly made all day. They even have a grill and salsa bar area. I bought some organic Turmeric tea. It was simply yummy. All the produce we bought was fresh and full of flavor. The baked items were interesting too. We bought some cookie\biscuits that had pumpkin anise spice and the others with coconut. Quite tasty for sure. Our other cookies we bought were made from miaz. Not my favorite, but interesting. I will certainly make a stop in here again and spend some time examining every item on every shelf and aisle. read more

I ordered a Minnie Mouse cake off of the cake book at their bakery. First red flag was no Minnie Mouse cake toppers but I already had ordered my own so I was fine with it. My daughter went to pick it up and FaceTimed me right away about how the cake looked. First the cake looked like it was done half fasted and they just sat it on the counter and expected my daughter to walk out of the store with it in hand and no box. It took her several times of asking before they finically boxed it up. I had no choice but to use cake as it was for my granddaughters birthday party. The cake was dry and instead of fresh strawberry filling it was mostly whip cream filling with barely any strawberries. Maybe only 3 pieces of the cake was eaten and the rest went to waste.
