I was insured through Judy McCafferty/Erie at Ritchey Insurance for over 20 years. My Daughter had…read morea few accidents and I was told we had to drop her off the policy. We were fine with that, my wife was told we would receive a letter to confirm my daughter's removal from the policy. We waited for the letter that was sent certified. We had not received anything. I took my Daughters car off the road and turned in the tags to the MVA. I sent an email to Judy at Ritchey insurance stating to cancel the policy on this specific vehicle. She called me back and said our entire policy was canceled due to the unsigned document that never made it to my house. Why would I purposefully not want to sign this document it was in my best interest to keep my policy. I was driving two vehicles un-insured for almost two weeks. Obviously, there had been a mistake in communication. An email or additional calls would have been great. After all, I was a customer for over 20 years. I thought for sure we could get this fixed and keep my policy. Boy, was I wrong! I asked my agent Judy how we could make this work. She said her hands were tied I would have to call corporate. I called corporate and spoke to an underwriter. His answer to me was he could do nothing until the following day. What good does that do me knowing I had to drive to work the next day?? In a nutshell, I was thrown to the wolves from an insurance company I thought really cared and valued me as a customer. I was fined a total of $300/$150 per car for the lapse in insurance. After this experience, I would hesitate from using Erie as an insurance carrier. In this case, I don't feel as if the Agent Judy McCafferty went far enough to retain me as a customer. Thank God I had a buddy who owns Brooks and Associates an insurance firm. He had me back up and insured within two hours.

I have to admit, this was the worst insurance experience of my life…read more Let me start from the beginning. As my company's commercial auto insurance term was drawing close to renewal, I started looking for better rates. My first call to Karen's office was received by Justin and he was actually very quick, polite and on - point. He asked me several questions, got back to me with a great quote in a VERY good time and we signed the deal. Then it started. Just like agents are required to file regular auto insurance with MVA, commercial has to be filed with US DOT. As I asked to confirm that it is done, I understood that no one in the agency had a clue how it is done. In couple of days of "run around" Justin tells me first news - in order for them to do that i need to purchase additional policy. 4- times more expensive than original one. I give it a thought and agree. Sign, pay deposit, fulfill all their requirements (even as far as changing my motor - vehicle authority for them). That takes about a week. Additional three weeks pass by and my DOT FILING is still not done. Just excuses and apologies. Now ALL this time I'm paying for 2 coverages at the same time - the LAW says there can be NO GAPS in commercial coverage or the company's right to operate will be revoked. So I have to keep paying PROGRESSIVE as well as STATE FARM. At this point I request a conversation with KAREN herself, to which i receive an answer that there is NOTHING she can do for me and she won't talk to me. I call STATE FARM head office and leave a complaint. My next conversation with Justin, when I call to ask him about filing goes like this: I get accused for complaining on their slothfulness and that now "it has been taken out of their hands" and they can't even tell me anything. Few days later I get a phone call from head office about my complaint and a lady who introduced herself as a senior underwriter promises to see what they can do for me. Somewhere at this time I finally get the news that my filing is done and i drop my older coverage. Mind you this is 6 weeks later!!! Now, the senior underwriter calls me about a week later with a "good news". They found SOMETHING in my past PERSONAL driving record and that made my COMPANY Not eligible for coverage. And I DO NOT drive my trucks. So, to finish this all up she is telling me that my policy will be cancelled!!! Where were they when they gave me a quote? I have YEARS of experience with multiple facets of business dealings in US and in other countries, but I have NEVER been treated this badly even in under - developed parts of the world. Congrats, State Farm, you made the history!*

We have been loyal State Farm customers for more than 15 years. Since State Farm was charging us…read morealmost twice as much for homeowners insurance as another company, we signed up with them and canceled State Farm. My mortgage company paid her anyway, so Karen Fike received $764 for insurance that had been canceled. She refused to refund my $764 after I canceled, her secretary (read junk yard dog) would not transfer my call to her and hung up on me after screaming at me. Karen Fike FINALLY called me and acted like we're best friends to explain she's keeping my money because she can. It's against "her" policy to back date refunds. I have only ever made one MAYBE two claims against this policy in the 15 years we have owned this house, neither of which was last year. I have made complaints through State Farm Corporate office and Maryland State Insurance Commission. I told her to enjoy the reviews I would be leaving her so she threatened to "upload my file." Well played, Karen. Keep my $764 and violate my privacy. I would expect no less from you.
