Such a disappointing exp at this Ajisen location. We came here on a Tue night at 10:30 pm and it was still pretty busy, so had to wait about 5 mins for a table. Got the following items 1) Steak Tappanyaki 2/5: dry, bland, tasteless. Complete waste of a $27.99 piece of steak. 2) Tom Yum Lamb Ramen 2.5/5: tom yum broth was way too sour and salty. Lamb, noodles and egg were OK. In terms of service, I had to remind the server to get water at the beginning. As well, while we were eating another server was wiping / spraying down the adjacent table which was so close to where we were eating. There is nothing much negative to say about the place. There is a good variety of ramen dishes, rice curry dishes, and appetizers available to choose from. I was not able to confirm if they have dessert available. I did not see it in the front or back of the menu. The ramen and katsu curry dishes came out looking really appetizing, and the presentation was great. They could improve their service timings to time when the orders of the group come out together or at least not timed too far apart. We were a group of 4 people, each having a separate order. The orders we had were the Ajisen Spicy, Ajisen Gyudon, Pork Katsu Curry, and Beef Fried Rice. The first 3 orders came one after the other, but the Beef Fried Rice came out much, much later. It does not look well to have a single diner left out without having a dish yet in front of them. Ajisen Ramen also has the Mini Curry Rice item available in their menu. This dish is priced well and allows one to sample their curries. I just wish that there were at least a few meat chunks included in the dish. This is the OG ramen place. Back in the day, this was the only place that served ramen and it was a franchise that grew bigger and bigger. Although I do not go to Ajisen as often anymore, this is the place to go after a long plane ride. The restaurant is open late with many people making short visits to consume a hot bowl of ramen. The food is always hot and made quickly and efficiently. The service is quick at this location. Overall, this restaurant is one of the best late night eats and definitely fixes that ramen craving with their hot broth and bouncy noodles. read more

Stopped in on the way back from downtown Toronto. It was busy at around 10pm! We ordered the the ajisen spicy, the shoyu sliced pork, and the soft shell crab. The ajisen spicy was flavorful and the pork was tender. The shoyu sliced pork had a rich creamy broth, and the pork was perfectly cooked. The soft shell crab was amazing! I am undecided if this should be a 2 or 3 star review. I've been to many Ajisen Ramen locations but this visit (my first) yo this location was underwhelming. We ordered three items: tonkatsu curry rice, shrimp tempura ramen, and side of cubes steak. The curry was overly salty so it was hard to eat but the cutlet was crispy and fine. The ramen was super oily like they spilled a few tablespoons of oil in it and it's all floating on top of the ingredients. I have had their ramen at other locations and never got that. Shrimp tempura was fine though. Lastly the cubes steak again was super oily and a bit tough. Flavour was just ok- I've had better. Overall service was fine and it came quick but I probably won't go back to this location again. read more

I am a long time Ajisen customer, but I did not visit this location until recently. My experience here in a few visits so far had been consistent and pleasant. Ajisen serves comforting ramen at reasonable prices, and allows you change the broth base if you want. I have ordered my regular (pork ramen extra noodle) a few times now and each time has been exactly what I expect. I also got the takoyaki which is also pretty good. Overall, if you like Ajisen's style of ramen, don't hesitate to come here as the food is great and the decor/furniture is fresh and clean with a good amount of seating. Would give 4.5 stars if I could. It's not the best ramen as the quality doesn't blow be away, but it has a familiar taste that I always seem to keep going back for. read more

We went to Ajisen Ramen for takeout last Saturday night. I ordered a bowl of Spicy Beef and a bowl of regular chicken ramen. The taste was good, especially my spicy beef. And it is a little like Thai food Lasha, like with some coconut milk in it. I'm not exactly know what's in it, but good to try. The soup, noodles and meat were separated, so we can pour how much ever that we like. I preferred to pour all soup in, but my friend like to pour little by little. Poorest quality of ramen I've had in all of Toronto. The noodles are soggy and the broth feels cheaply made. Don't get me started on the staff here too - I often wonder if they were purposely trained to be as rude and dismissive as possible to their guests. With poor food and even poorer service, I can't recommend people staying as far away from this place as they can get enough. Ordered the Spicy miso pork ramen from here for delivery (ikr who the heck orders ramen for delivery??) And it was actually really good but it got cold by the time it got to me. This eatery at Midland and McNicoll is where my go-to Starbucks is. It is also a few doors down from OneZo Tapioca and several stores down from Pizza Hut. Commute time to get here: 5 minutes Verdict: Deadly! Tonight, I ordered through UberEats. There is a promotion happening where you get $5 off your order. Otherwise, I would have called in my order. I got the following items: - Japanese fried rice with chicken - California roll - Ramune melon drink For the entire month of November, when you order takeout or delivery, you get a free order of spring rolls. My order took longer than the original estimated time. The place needed fifteen more minutes. I wasn't bothered by it. I had placed the order in Stouffville. I needed more time myself to get here. It's in Midland Plaza, which gets more exciting with all the new businesses setting up shop. I parked and waited for a bit until my order was ready. There is outdoor seating. However, it was 10C outside and the sun was setting. No one was out there. I walked in. You can only go as far as the second set of doors. A woman greeted me and was genuinely happy to see another human being. I said that I had an UberEats order. She rattled off the order number, which was mine. I thanked her and said goodnight. I drove home, lugged all my goodies in on a rare day off, and unpacked my dinner. I have had the Japanese fried rice with cheese at another location. I decided to give this non-cheese version a go, but with grilled chicken. It was yummy. There are bits of crispy garlic, which made me happy. The chicken was grilled nicely, seasoned well, and was tender. I loved the saltiness of this dish. It's not overly salty, but enough to bring out the flavours of the green onions and egg. It's great in my books. I have never had a California roll from Ajisen. Tonight was the time to try it. The roll is huge. It tasted fresh. The only downside was the wasabi and soy that was pre-mixed. It's good for convenience. However, I'm not big on wasabi. I'd rather have soy on its own. It's a note for next time to ask the place to just give me soy or give me death! Otherwise, it was pretty good. The spring rolls were dainty. They were free, so I really don't have anything to complain about. If they were any larger, I wouldn't be writing this review. I'd be completely passed out with drool coming down one side of my mouth. There, I said it! They tasted great with the spicy-sweet dipping sauce. Without it, the spring rolls would have been pretty bland. I tend to order ramen as my main meal at Ajisen. However, do try the Japanese fried rice. It's addictive. We came to ajisen around midnight because it was one of the few options open at this hour. When we arrived there were only 3 tables being serviced. There was 2 younger girls working. We didn't get to order until another couple came in and sat beside us. We ended up waiting 25mins because their "printer didn't print our order" and the couple who came after us got their 3 appetizers and 2 ramens before us. I ordered the spicy Tom yum beef noodle and the pork spicy ramen. I asked for soft noodle on the Tom yum (aka cook noodles longer) but they swapped my request with the pork one. When I asked for another bowl so we could swap the noodles to the correct order, she said they don't give customers big bowls and only small ones. I wasn't impressed by the service at all. The location is Covid compliant, asked for our ID and proof of vaccinations. They also have plastic barriers up between each table setting so that was nice to see. The ramen is reasonably priced but they were sold out of many bowls and broths on a Wednesday evening which I thought was odd. They also struggle to serve us complimentary green tea. We had to ask multiple times and half way through the meal when they finally brought us cups they were half full at best. When I asked for a refill they brought an electric kettle meant to heat water... but it was 1/4 full of what I assumed was green tea? It was horribly burnt and I was so turned off by the sight. In mg opinion the gyoza were over priced. 6 for $6.99 but I swear they were the same dumplings from Costco they are $11.99 for a huge bag. Margins I guess. Lastly, can someone advise why you only get half a boiled egg with your ramen? Come on, eggs are not that expensive but I'm no one to judge. A whole egg would have been appreciated. read more

If you're a fan of Ajisen's style of ramen, you'll love this place. I've been here a few times now, and every time the food and service have been exceptional. The food: I usually get the sliced pork ramen with the spicy miso broth. The broth is rich, hot and keeps you wanting more (especially on a cold day). The pork is extremely tender... like unexpectedly tender. Pork is definitely not easy to make like that and they have nailed it every time. The noodles are firm and have a nice bite to it. It feels like they cook everything to spec which some other places don't. Overall, a very good bowl of ramen. The service: The staff is very attentive, and food gets served in a timely manner. They check in on you and fill your water before you ever get low. One big thing to mention is the music, they play some nice 2000 throwbacks so shoutout to whoever's playlist this is. I know it's a ramen place but they had rice dishes so had to try it. Ordered the beef rice bowl and it started with miso soup which was not bad. The beef bowl arrived with half an egg with the soft yolk, just the way I like it. Generous amounts of beef and the marinade was not salty, just right. Had ordered side order of gyoza appetizer to share but was disappointed with it because 1.) it came after when we were almost done our main. 2) the crispy side of the shell was stuck to the plate and separated from the rest of the gyoza. 3) It was rather bland and the dipping sauce was not tasty nor inspiring. 4) my lunch companion commented that the frozen dumplings at home is even better which made me laugh but true. Went to this location on a whim. We had to wait a bit to be seated - but no biggie! We were going to order 3x fried shrimp ramen, but my sis had to get something else because they only had 2 servings left - understandable (because it was 7 pm). We also got takoyaki & fried tofu which were pretty good. So, I got the fried shrimp ramen with shoyu broth (the latter of which, was actually nice + plain & great). I wanted something that wasn't spicy (for once), and they delivered! However, I would opt not to get the fried shrimp again. It had a super rough texture, almost hurt to eat and was lacking in taste. They give you a ton (which we couldn't finish due to my prior statement). So, maybe it was good that my sis didn't get her own serving of fried shrimp. I have been to other Ajisen Ramen locations before however my experience sadly fell short today here at this location. The restaurant ran out of rice today at first, and we considered still dining in however it became very hard to grab the staffs attention to make changes to our order. When we decided to make our order a takeout instead of a dine it there was a switch in service. We got our order 20 minutes after we decided to make it a takeout, although we ordered it 15 minutes prior to that. Well well well...where do I begin...this is my first time reviewing despite being a total foodie, so please bear with me! I'd call myself an avid ramen fan, having travelled purely in the pursuit of ramen. Thus, with the pandemic restricting my travel, and having moved to the Scarborough area, I've been in dire need of quenching my ramen thirst. And so began the search for a ramen place in my area that could somewhat meet my sometimes unreasonably high expectations. I would like to conclude that my search is now over. Having tried various competitors in the area, driving all the way north to Markham and west to North York just to try various ramen restaurants, I am amazed that I settled upon this quaint little store just a 10 minute drive away from my home. So glad I can forget the long drives all over Toronto just to end up in disappointment. It must be a new location as I was not even aware of it until quite recently. I have always wanted to try Ajisen, having seen their offsprings all over my Asia trips, though have never had the opportunity rise up as I had been busy with other more persistent ramen offerings. Consider me schooled. When I pulled up to this location, I realized it was in more of a suburban plaza, with a lot of asian offerings (I should those too maybe?). Anyways, I walked in and was greeted by a nice asian dude who spoke fluent English, she greeted me as if I was a long time customer, even though this was my first time...it was quite a pleasant surprise. The decor of the restaurant is also refreshing, with Japanese bricked walls and oakwood tiling. It was also incredibly clean, which gives me some comfort knowing that the kitchen is probably of a similar calibre in terms of cleanliness. Determined to find a place that can genuinely satisfy my ramen cravings while I'm prevented from travelling abroad, I ordered 2 different types of ramen to taste, and smugly added a fried chicken snack to boot. With my tom yum steak ramen and spicy mala beef ramen in tow, I walked to my car to eat my feast (damn you covid for taking away my in store dining!) Much like other ramen places, their broth and noodles are separated. The presentation of the ramen in its little black bowl was quite good, and I can tell a lot of care was put into making it look nice. Not many ramen places do this due to high turn over, but I saw that they had delicately placed every ingredient in the bowl into its own little corner, creating a micro spasm of colours and textures right in the bowl. When a ramen restaurant takes care into presentation, you can tell they treat ramen like art, just the way it should be. This is only the second Canadian ramen store that I have seen do this. Upon opening the containers, my car filled with the aroma of exotic spices, tearing my eyes a little (no exaggeration!). Their steak was a little overdone (though the fried chicken was surprisingly crispy and tasty), but goodness gracious delicious fabulucious I was flabbergasted by their noodles and broth. Their noodles reminded me of the numerous mom and pop ramen outlets dotting the landscape of Japan, with a firm but yet still soft texture. It was cooked so damn perfectly, I haven't tasted anything like this outside of Japan. Now onto the broth. I must admit, in all my ramen explorations, I have never tasted anything like the spicy and sour that was their tom yum nor the numbing sensation that their "mala" (hey, they picked the name, not me) provided. Yet, despite its distinctness from authentic tonkatsu broth that I usually have, it was in...an oddly refreshing way...better? I am stumped for words on how to describe these broths in an accurate way, but it reminded me of my trips to India, my trips backpacking through the rural mountains of Japan, my trip walking the eating streets of Singapore...all at the same time. It was, in a way, Toronto in a bowl, or two bowls actually. Despite these broths being totally different broths, they gave me the same warm fuzzy feeling, the same we the north sensation. I've never been one for words (despite how I may come off from this review), but the ramen from this place left me speechless. I don't know anywhere else that I can find ramen broth like what this place offers, and somehow, I am left with the desire that...I really hope there are. The combination of authentic high quality noodles, ramen presentation that clearly shows the staff puts a lot of care into, and its exotic yet still Japanese tasting broth is a microcosm of authenticity, innovation, passion, and just damn good food. So, have I found a place to sustain my ramen cravings until this whole pandemic blows over? You bet your spicy mala beef ramen I have. read more

My family and I went to this restaurant and the service was horrible. We waited 45 minutes and eventually left because we didn't get our food. The employees were just standing around. No follow ups or no check ins were made to our table. The tables that got their way after us received their food within 5 minutes of ordering, meanwhile they still made us wait for ours. As mentioned we eventually left. Nothing against the company just the location and the service. If you want to go to Ajisen please go to the other locations. Avoid this one! read more
